Presidents Report:
I would like to congratulate & thank all members on the 2015 season. The club continued to enjoy success on the
playing field at all levels & it was great to welcome many new members to our club. The club also continued to
perform well administratively & improved its financial position in line with the Board’s expectations.
There were many highlights this year.
The Men’s Premier League winning back to back Premiership in exciting style. The Women Premier League winning
their way through to the Grand Final to unfortunately fall at the last hurdle.
The U16 Pennant team winning the Premiership was also a highlight. Many teams made it through to the finals &
enjoyed the experience & performed well.
The introduction of two U10 girl’s teams. The Junior Program continues to grow & many fine players are emerging
from the program. An observation more than a highlight, is that even though our Junior teams are not in the Shield
completion, players are still coming through the Juniors & playing Premier League Hockey & making State Teams. The
Premier League girls, runner up this year, had three girls in the team who played Junior’s in the last 2 seasons &
several more if you go back a year or two more. I make this observation to encourage Junior Players & Parents to stick
with our program & not be lured by suggestions that if you are not playing Shield Juniors then you will not make State
Teams. I note that the club’s that are recruiting our players on this basis did not make the PL finals!!
In both the Women’s & Men’s sections we now have several players who have played in five Premier League
Premierships. Yes, over the past 10 years, both teams have won five times! This year was the first time the girls have
played in the Grand Final & not won!
Congratulations to Marty de Man who coached the Men’s Premier League team to a second Premiership in his second
season as head coach. This is an outstanding effort & well done Marty.
Greg Pickford was appointed to the Women’s PL job this year & had a great season. Greg has embraced the club &
our culture of developing players from within. He has developed a great relationship with his players & his assistants.
We are fortunate to have coaches of this quality & the Board has reached agreement with Marty & Greg to continue
in the role for the next two seasons at least.
Thank you to all of the Coaches & Team Manager’s for their efforts & contribution to the year of hockey.
A highlight this year was the work undertaken by Tegan De Man as Hockey Operations Director. Tegan has stepped up
to the role & has been supported greatly by the people on her team. The transition from Greg Purser has enabled him
to work in other areas & ensured that there will be continuity at this level into the future. Tegan & the team have a
tough job and, with this year under their belt, will be able to focus on improved planning & support for the senior
teams. We are proud that we are one club that has people working across both the women & men’s sections. The
culture this builds is critical to the ongoing success of the club.
I would also like to recognize & thank Ken Parkin for his work for the club & devotion to hockey. Ken leads the way in
the North East of Melbourne gaining access to schools & successfully recruiting kids to hockey. He is now developing
several of our younger members to be able to go into the schools & conduct the first stage of hookin2hockey. Ken
runs the Under 8 playing & coaching process for the NDHL & coaches our U12 team. He is also the leader &
inspiration behind our ball kids program. Each of these roles are critical & without Ken we would not have the
foundations of a successful Junior hockey program. I am especially pleased that people are now supporting &
embracing Ken’s leadership & methods. Thank you Ken.
This year the club recognized the work of Ian Ludwick for his devotion to the club & his work across several areas of
club activity. Ian is involved in the NDHL, he coaches a Junior team, & he mentors a senior team that welcomes young
players. His encouragement for all is second to none, & he is well supported by his whole family. Thank you Ian. Ian
was awarded the Kiwi trophy for 2015.
Thank you to Erika Newbegin who leads the NDHL & the Junior Committee. This year the Northern District Hockey
League grew to 130 members. Erika’s commitment, time & energy are amazing. We are fortunate to have her in this
role. In 2016 we are hoping that Erika can focus solely on the NDHL. There are exciting plans to grow the NDHL & the
club will sign an MOU with Hockey Victoria which will see more funds made available for the growth of this
competition.
The Junior program relies on many, many people volunteering to coach & administer the teams. Thank you to all of
those people. We had many people running coaching clinics. I had several acknowledgements of the work done by
our senior players to provide specialist & general coaching for the developing players. It is an important part of our
culture that present players support the Junior program with their coaching & as role models.
I also want to note the contribution of Tim Hogan as our Red Devils co-ordinator. He has taken a difficult process &
made it a seamless one for our members & his efforts are very well appreciated.
I want to note the efforts of Rod Kay & Michael McLean (jnr) for their work with umpiring & technical bench across
many carnivals & events. I want to acknowledge all of our umpires & encourage them to continue with their
endeavours. I want to congratulate the whole club for their support of officials & for doing their best to not outwardly
show dissent when decisions did not go our way. We must continue to appreciate that without officials & an
opposition we do not have a game.
To the many volunteers not covered above. Without you we could not run the club & continue in our efforts to
reduce the cost of playing hockey. The support that we have been given at carnivals & the wonderful organisation has
been recognised by Hockey Victoria, who allocate events to our club. This year we had some finals at the club & they
were wonderfully supported by our volunteers. We are now in discussion with HV as part of the two ground facilities
to get more showcase events scheduled at the club. This will assist in raising the necessary funds to maintain our
ground surfaces at the top level.
I want to congratulate & thank the committee members. These people all give generously of their time & we have a
good cross section of membership on the committee which ensures that all interests are considered. I also want to
thank the committee for the support that they have given to me in my role.
Congratulations to all of the players who gained representative honours this year. It is a great individual honour &
also reflects well on our club. Thank you to all of the people that supported these players in their efforts to achieve
representative success.
Sponsorship:
I want to thank the sponsors who have generously supported the club this year. We are indeed fortunate to have
their support & I hope that you all make a point of supporting their organisations whenever the opportunity presents
itself. Quest Apartments Bundoora, Grays Hockey, Mascot Industries, Warrandyte Travel & Cruise, Melbourne Ceiling
Specialists, Robert Crowley Consulting, Banyule Dental, & Paul’s Butchery.
The Future:
At the time of writing the council has called for tenders to upgrade the surface of the original ground. We remain
hopeful that the re-surface will be completed in time for next season. We are behind our original schedule mainly
because we are struggling to convince council to guarantee loans to upgrade the grounds. This is mainly a revenue &
accounting issue. At the AGM we will consider the establishment of a sinking fund to finance ground upgrades. The
money for this fund will be achieved by a levy on all members & by sending all ground rental revenue to the sinking
fund. We estimate that this fund will need to raise $80,000 per year on an on- going basis. This would then enable
the club to fund its operations without the reliance on council guarantee.
We are also working with the council on a long term development plan to complete the clubrooms, the parking &
spectator amenity.
The Northern District Hockey League must double in size each of the next two years to ensure we increase the depth
of our Juniors & grow the revenues needed to fund our operations.
We are pushing Hockey Victoria to reform the structure of hockey to place more focus & support into community
hockey at the District level for juniors, senior players & the veterans.
We will continue to work to reduce the cost of playing hockey & can start by not increasing fees for next year.
To achieve this we need to continue our efforts to generate revenue & we need volunteers to support the canteen &
the carnivals that we run to manage this.
The committee will also expand its efforts to increase ground hire, increase the number & level of sponsorship & grow
membership. We will also continue to work with local government to secure the future of our venue.
This year will be my last as President. I have enjoyed my time in the role & thank everyone for their support.
The last four years have seen on field success in the Premier League & improvements in the operation of the club
which have only been possible by the work of the committee & many others. I want to acknowledge the support of
Greg Purser, Tegan De Man, Jennifer Zull, Belinda Day, Mark Spittal & Robert Kennedy who have all been on the board
these past four years. Thank you for that support & I wish the club well in the future. I would also like to
acknowledge the support of my family which has enabled me to find the time & motivation that the role required.

Treasurers Report:
The club remains financially strong with a profit in excess of $50,000. This year we paid out the club room’s loan
which now relieves all of our guarantors of their responsibility. The Board & all the club members thank all these
generous members for doing this.
While we paid out this $19,000 loan we were also able to put a further $20,000 into the Term Deposit.
Our challenges remain the same, fee collection is our main source of income & pays for most of the day to day running
of the club. Whilst we know the fees are high this is the cost of playing on first class facilities. As most of you will
know we are replacing the turf & this can’t be done if fees were not at the present levels.
For those of you who still have outstanding debt please look out at the grounds we play on & pay your debt.
To enable fees not to rise we need all sections of the club to support our fund raising initiatives & functions. Also use
Premier League days as fund raising ventures & attend matches were we can support our teams & financially spending
at the canteen & raffles. Next year the Premier League competition is increasing to 22 games again which will
increase the cost of running the club by approximately $10,000. We will not be rising fees so this makes attending
these games vital to the clubs finances.
Ground Hire is another area that we need to increase & hopefully with the replacement of the old ground we get
more support from Hockey Victoria with extra games & tournaments.
We need to cut back on our expenditure & keep the spending to hockey & ground infrastructure items. Fines were
too high this year & I implore all team managers/captains to input team sheets /scores the same day as there match.
If this can’t be done ring a coordinator for the section so they can input details.
I would like to thank Tegan & her Hockey Operations team for assisting in the collection of the fees that made my job
a whole lot easier, & Mark Spittal for his advice.
This will be my last year involved in finance/treasurer of the club. I would like to thank all the members for your
support. In the last four years we have put processes & protocols in place to make running of the club more
transparent & to protect members from any accusations of wrong doing. These protocols will continue in the future.
Also we have seen the term deposit grow from $25,000 to $190,000. We could not have done this without the
support of all the club members.

Secretary Report:
This year we completed a number of activities to improve usability of our facility. I would like to thank all those who
helped with the various jobs this year & particularly James Glover, Brendan Carmody, Ken Parkin & Ray Heritage who
helped with extension of the supporter shelter.
Clubrooms:

Undertook general maintenance & repairs

Extended the supporter shelter across the breezeway entrance to GRN-1
Grounds:

Completed annual surface cleaning of both grounds & tender documents for replacement of GRN-2

Replaced the goals on GRN-1

Prepared grounds & facilities to support the Premier League home games, Junior Country Championship, & Zone
Carnivals

Arranged removal of dead trees on South Side & graffiti on the North side of GRN-1
Canteen:

Undertook a major clean-up, repainted the inside of the canteen & replaced the Dim Sim steamer & Hot Water
Urn that had seen better days

Implemented a canteen roster with all teams rostered for 1 x “home games” day. Approximately 75% of players
helped out, which took a lot of pressure off a small number of non-playing volunteers. In 2016 we hope to see
the player support increase to 100%
Greg Purser – Secretary

Hockey Operations Report:
The main achievements for Hockey Operations in 2015:

Exceeded our obligation under the HV umpire development policy

Increased Junior participation in Seniors

Hosted the Zone finals & Hockey 7’s local & regional days for School Sports Victoria

Hosted the Junior Country State Championships, Zone challenge & Junior Gala Days for Hockey Victoria

Expanded the Northern Districts Hockey League to provide a 6 x team Senior Summer competition including
the introduction of 2 x new clubs (Plenty & Whittlesea)
While the season has been extremely busy, there is still plenty of work to be done with HV to grow hockey in the
Northern growth corridor.
If you would like to get involved with Hockey Operations please give me a call as there are always plenty of jobs to go
around.

Men’s Premier League 1:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
Premier league Mens 2015 season ended the same as 2014 a grand final win against Camberwell 3-2 to make it BackBack premierships. However the path there was not as smooth.
Coming from the news of Tim Cross’s first game for the Kookaburras & under the expert guidance of Luke Mackey the
team fronted up to another tough preseason. Building on the ever-increasing numbers each season the turn out
included players from nearly all teams across the club.
Where the preseason started well the start of the season was a little rocky. A first up win against Essendon started
the season off on a strong note. Round 2 resulted in a loss & so the pattern went for over the first 8 rounds leaving
the teams 9th & feeling some pressure.
The team after doing the hard yards on the training track started put together a few wins in a row ending up to the 2
weeks season break however a draw to Southern United on the eve of the break put a little reality check to the
improved performance.
While the team were refreshing themselves for the sprint to the finals ahead of them Casey Hammond Captained the
Vic U21’s team to a national Championships.
Upon the Casey’s return the team focused & starting to play at the high level which the groups expects of themselves.
This renewed vigour resulted in a 4-0 win v Hawthorn, Gareth’s first clean sheet, followed by key wins against
Powerhouse, Doncaster & Camberwell which included the goal of the year by Byron Walton. This undefeated run
resulted in a 2nd place finish only on goal difference.
The semi final match up against Camberwell was a see sawing high scoring affair ending 5-5 at full time after we
scored 2 goals in the last 5mins to tie it up. The subsequent shoot out didn’t go our way. While the result didn’t go
our way, it would provide the key ingredients to prevail in Prelim & Grand Final. The following week we encountered
Powerhouse & for those keen to watch the game, fast-forward to the last 10 seconds. Where a optimistic hit into the
circle resulted in a Gordon Zull deflection to tie the game up. Taking advantage of the previous weeks shoot out
experience the boys set up a rematch of the 2014 Grand Final.
In the lead up to the grand final the team set themselves for an attacking start, this mindset was rewarding going 1 up
with a Gordon Flick. With the game settling into its rhythm & both teams creating opportunities. Camberwell were
able to generate a number of shots that were well stopped by Gareth in a dominating man of the match performance.
The Camberwell pressure finally overcame the defence with 2 quick goals. At this point is where the resilience of the
team comes to the fore. Led by Josh Pollard, Casey & Heath Simpson the group just raises another gear & tied up the
game with another Gordon Flick then thru a well worked play by Glenn Simpson, Josh & a hard running Casey found
himself earning a stroke with only the keeper to beat. Finishing off his hat trick Gordy put us 3-2 up & 2015 Premiers.
I also would like to congratulate Gordon Zull with being the highest goal scorer with 20 goals.
Overall with the effort & time commitment that the entire squad put into the season from mid-November to final
training session before the Grand Final Would, the successful season was thoroughly deserved. I’m looking forward to
the 2016 season. Three Pete?
THANK YOU:



Firstly I would like Luke Mackey who after a long stint making the team not only the fittest but hardest
running team in the competition will not continue in the role next season to focus his career
I again would like to thank Bob Aldersea for managing team. It gets harder & harder to describe the effort
Bob puts in for the team & the appreciation we have for his efforts. But thank you Bob & congratulations on
6 premierships.
Finally I would like to thank the Committee, parents, partners & family who supported us throughout the
year especially the turnout at the grand Final along with the all those that played in the team. Up The Burra!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Women’s Premier League 1:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
The Greensborough Hockey Club “GHC” is the largest club in the North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne & has a proud
history in the Premier League with both the Women’s & Men’s teams representing & being in the past 10 years. GHC
prides itself on our focus on hockey development & our provision for players of all levels of playing experience.
The aim of this report is to provide a summary of Women’s Premier League team performance over the past season.
The Main Goals for the 2015 season were:
 Develop younger players

Develop new culture

Bridge the gap between Premier league & Premier league reserves

Play competitive style of hockey
Expectations from playing group:
 Senior players to take on mentor roles

Player commitment
INTRODUCTION:

In recent times, the GHC women’s team was the first club to win three consecutive flags in the Premier
League in the history of Victorian Club Hockey when they completed “back to back to back” in 2013.

Despite this success, the commencement of the 2015 season needed to be different for the playing group to
remain fresh & dynamic. To this end, pre-season started mid-January.

All players who had aspirations to play in the top two (2) sides were invited to group meeting, where
coaching philosophies & expectations as individuals & as a team were shared. The players responded
extremely well agreeing to the new framework which was demonstrated on the field, averaging 30 players
per session.

The tone for the year ahead was established here. The high level of commitment shown by the players in this
foundation period was encouraging & proved that everyone wanted to strive for success & become better as
a playing group.
SUMMARY:
To its credit, GHC manages to develop, retain & attract talented players. This year we saw the arrival of Celine Donnet
from MCC & the return of Lauren Chatelier who were both regular starters in the team. Both players brought strength
& experience to the side compensating for the loss of Katie Burns & Emily Riordan.
Relying on a talented team is short-term & therefore the main goals for 2015 were to develop the younger players,
develop a new culture to bridge the gap between Premier 1 & Reserve leagues for long-term gain whilst playing
competitive style of hockey.
To achieve this result, several younger players trained with the main playing group throughout the year to expose
them to the change in game speed, skill level & make them aware of what level they needed to be at to play at the top
level.
This process was a success with several players getting regular Premier League games & playing at a respectful level.
The development of Meagan Lendon, Morgan De Man, McKinley Ryder & Georgia Logan was fantastic & all players
played beyond expectations; they did not look out of place during the season or during our finals campaign & at times
stood out. Other players that were given opportunities & developed well throughout the year were Sarah Young,
Naomi Brasier, Karina de Vries & Vicki Hogan.
th
Further proof of this process working, was the pleasing advancement of the Reserves team. Finishing in 6 position,
an improvement on past performances, the players listed above were able to share their experiences, strengthening
the Reserves side & generally, lifting the overall level of the women’s group. With their well-structured formation &
the high level of competitive hockey played, the Reserves were unlucky not to play finals in 2015.
There were also expectations of the playing group which focused on implementing a mentoring program to
complement the development of younger players & developing a new culture & then more generally, player
commitment.
In this regard, it was really satisfying to see more guidance from the senior players who took the time this year to
improve the ethos creating solidarity amongst the group. Mentoring from the senior group also happened at a time of
uncertainty.
At the beginning of the season, the playing formation/structure was changed & it was important that there was buy-in
from the group. Change management can be difficult but because of the leadership group, the players responded
well & worked hard to implement the changes.
It was expected that by round 9, mid-way through the season, that the new playing group would have settled into the
new style & that we would be sitting mid-table. This was achieved. By mid-season we were aiming for finals. This
was achieved.
Major Milestones for the season:


Secured a place in the Grand Final
PLAYER RECOGNITION:
Despite starting off the year with 2 losses, all the players believed in themselves, they had belief in the structure &
most of all belief in each other. Their commitment to give 110% of themselves & to their team mates was
commendable. Their desire to win & the passion they showed was outstanding. This can only be attributed to the
player commitment & their attitudes on & off the field.
REPRESENTATIVE RECOGNITION:

2015 Viper players: Hana Peake & Lucy Ockenden

Victorian Institute of Sport & Vipers train-on squad: Nicola Hammond
To Alana McQueen & Nicola Hammond, a special mention for their contribution with new playing roles &
responsibilities in the changed formation. Both players really developed beyond expectation, taking their hockey to a
new level & playing their positions admirably. In addition, they both demonstrated great leadership attributes
relishing in their mentoring & teaching role.
Finally, acknowledgment & thanks to all the senior women who contributed to the GHC junior development as
volunteer coaches of the Northern District Hockey League.
CONCLUSION:
Finishing 4th in a challenging year & to compete in the Grand Final was a tremendous feat. Especially given the
positive & healthy environment it was accomplished in. Next season, the focus will remain on player development &
enhancing the player pathway to the WPL.
However, none of this was achieved without the support & assistance of the following:
 To GHC for the opportunity to coach the WPL side; an opportunity that has been satisfying & enjoyable &
makes for exciting times ahead.

To Tegan, thank you for your assistance during the year. You have been fantastic not only for me but for the
players as well. You have bought so much to the group & I hope you will be a part of our journey in 2016.

To Jonno, thank you for everything you did throughout the year ensuring we got on the pitch. All the work
you do behind the scenes & on game day has been fantastic & I also hope you will be a part of 2016.

To Justin, thank you for all your support this year. It has been great working with you & I’m looking forward
to 2016 where we can carry on with what we have started & develop this playing group further.
Finally, thank you to all the members of the GHC, especially the WPL players for welcoming & supporting me this year.
See you all in 2016!

Men’s Premier League Reserves:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
This year was a really successful year for the reserves group in many ways. The team had some exceptionally good
wins & scored 75 goals (the overwhelming majority field goals) in the home & away rounds. A number of our
players continued their development & I have no doubt many will play significant roles in our Premier League team
over the next few years & well beyond.
The end result was a fourth place finish after being eliminated by Hawthorn in a tough elimination final on a day
where things just didn’t quite click like they had many times during the season.
The final result of the Premier League is a testament to the strength & support of all of the players that played
reserves this year. It is the hard work of those who do not quite make the team each week, those who have played
their time up there & those who are on the way up, who keep the guys at the top sharp & on their game. For those
on their way up, this no doubt creates frustration at times, however I hope all players we have continue to take the
hard road & push to break into the most successful Premier League Team that the state has seen for many, many
years.
THANK YOU:

I would like to thank Adam Traynor for his efforts this year whilst injured as team manager. To be honest, at
the beginning of the year when he put his hand up, I thought it was a short term way he could stay involved
& he would do a bit whilst we found a permanent team manager. By the end of the year, I think like the
players in Premier League feeling those below vying for their positions, Bob Aldersea also stepped up & was
at the games a little earlier & going the extra mile, just in case Adam did not return from injury next season.
Fortunately for Bob & more importantly for Adam, he took the field in round 18.

Thank you to Jarryd Purser for his support as Assistant Coach this year. Jarryd juggled many things this year,
but his hockey knowledge & game day skills were invaluable for the reserves team. His efforts to run training
sessions throughout the year & or take groups was amazing & like a true Purser, nothing was too much
trouble.

Thank you to Tom Woodman & Drew Anthony, who were terrific leaders both on & off the field. Our club is
in great hands when you see the way guys like this interact & lead others.

Thank you to all players that played below. As a coach I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys to be
involved with.
CONGRATULATIONS:

I would like to congratulate Nick de Man who was the highest goal scorer year with 19 goals, from only 16
games!! Not to mention all field goals. Whilst congratulating Nick Deman, I need to acknowledge the work
Nick did last season as coach. I certainly inherited a very well coached & extremely well developed team.

A special congratulations to Tom Woodman, Matthew Lendon, Cody Hassing, Chris Spatharis, Jordan
Mulvaney, Brett Kennedy, all of which had an unbelievably good year in terms of the development & hockey
progression.

Women’s Premier League Reserves:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
2015 saw the WPLR make large improvements with our basic skills & game play, which was a large consolidation on
work, conducted over 2014. With the appointment of Greg Pickford as WPL coach & a greater focus on development
through the WPLR & WPB we were able to continue to improve. Under the leadership of Lucy Reade & closely
supported by Tegan Riordan, Belinda Day, Micahl Creamer & Mel Houghton Sims we were able to finish the season in
th
6 position, which is a substantial improvement on 2014 & 2013.

Men’s Pennant A:
SEASON OVERVIEW:

We finished 2nd at the end of the home & away season this year which set our group up for their first taste
of finals hockey for some years, & in some cases first senior finals action. In the last half of the season,
through players going up to play reserves, holidays, & Injuries the team performed well in tough situations.
We held our own on many occasions without quite coming up with the points; on our day & injury free we
competed with the teams at the top which is a credit to the boys & their development this year.

The teams most memorable moments were the first few games that were played with no fear, & the points
flowed with reasonable ease. This is an improvement on last year’s group with many of the guys moving up
a grade from Penn B permanently & some to reserves which is the development that we are striving to
achieve. I believe we have developed the boys well & the fact that we had a much more consistent group
this year they played some really good hockey together.

The development of the team was great this year & I thank Martin De Man & Mathew Trounce with their
training & skills coaching during the year. I would also like to thank Marti De Man for his efforts developing
the guys to move on to the next grade which is our main aim for the boys.

A special thanks goes to Jarryd Purser for holding the Team & bench duties for me in 2nd half of the season
whilst coaching the Reserves & playing Pennant D. He also pitched in with a few cameo appearances &
scored some valuable goals for the team when we needed them. It makes my life much easier when I am
not having to worry about those duties as well, so thank you very much!

I think we have grown considerably as a group & feel that every player will be much stronger for the
experience. The system that we adopted & the style of hockey we played is a credit to the group for sticking
to the plan & discipline required to play such a fast & skilful brand of attacking hockey.
THANK YOU:

Many thanks would have to go to the guys that helped out on short notice Robert Anderson, Jordan
Mulvaney, Drew Anthony, Nathan Hooper, Brett Kennedy & Luke Mackey

Also to Lachlan Purser who umpired for us before or after his Premier League commitments when we didn’t
have a rostered umpire

Thanks must also go to the guys who helped out when we needed more senior guys to stiffen up the squad
for some tough games, Mathew Trounce, Martinus de Mann, Tom Woodman, Tony Lander, Anthony
Greenwood, Sam Mahoney & Peter Vivian Taylor
Page 13 of 34

Big thanks must go to Martinus De Man, Mathew Trounce, Jarryd Purser, & Drew Anthony for the coaching
they provided to the group for the year & for taking on a leadership role with the boys at times when needed
CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to James Woodman for winning the Best & Fairest

Other consistent players were Nick Hill at the back he was very strong & influential when required. James
Bryant in goals for the later part of the season (due to an injury to Jamie Williamson) was also very solid as
were Michael Coen, Adam Spatharis, & Tim Doutre.

I would also like to congratulate majority of the boys this year for consistently attending training this year as
it makes my job much easier if I have a solid group to work with every week.

Men’s Pennant B:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
In a very challenging year the team, we had some very difficult games where we definitely did not put our best foot
forward but for the majority of the year we played well & made a contest of every game.
It was great to see the development of some of the younger players towards the end of the year & just as pleasing to
see the likes of Glenn Jones, Leigh Jones & Andrew Campbell get consistent games in Pennant A.
We finished 8th on the ladder with 4 wins, 10 losses, 4 draws & a total of 16 pts.
THANK YOU:

I would like to thank Brenten Coulthard & John Doyle for helping in getting the team organised & providing
valuable insight & coaching throughout the yr.

Thank you to all of the players who filled in at short notice to ensure that our team had enough players.

I would finally like to thank all the players for their commitment & dedication during the season.
CONGRATULATIONS:

Women’s Pennant C:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
Although the girls didn’t make finals there were still many positives that came out of this year. The season was a huge
learning curve for the girls with half of them having jumped up 2 different grades & the other half having to adapt to
new teammates, coach & playing structure. Discipline was one of our key learning points – at one stage early on,
having collected more cards then wins. They finished seventh at the end of the home & away season but put in very
promising performances against top teams. The girls should be proud of those efforts.
All girls showed huge improvements both in terms of individual skill development & in playing together as a team.
There were two particularly memorable moments during the year: the first was an away game versus Essendon who
Page 14 of 34
at the time were on top of the ladder. The team had many girls unavailable & were struck with injuries throughout
the game, however they went on to register a hard fought draw in a tight match that included finishing with 2 girls off
with cards. The second memorable moment was one of the last games of the regular season where they played
Doncaster, the girls followed instruction well & played their structure perfectly. This resulted in a 4-2 win over
Doncaster including a hat trick from Sarah Hankinson with two in the first eight minutes. The team played so well & it
was exciting to see what they were capable of when playing at they’re best.
CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to the girls who had earn a call up to play in both higher grades

To Sally Collins who led the team well in what was challenging year with many new teammates
THANK YOU:

To everyone who helped out & filled in this season as we had a handful of games where our girls weren’t
available. Your support was greatly appreciated

Lastly, I would like to thank all the girls – they made the job of coaching a pleasure with their attitude,
commitment & determination. They showed respect for each other & I hope they enjoyed the season as
much as I did

Men’s Pennant D:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
Last Summer, Lachlan (Deeks) Purser, Nathan Hooper & myself decided to put together a team. The main objective
was to win a couple of games & to have fun on the field.
We are all mates in the team & often had the Purser, Hooper Lardner brothers all playing together & some weeks also
the Coen & Pain brothers, which made it most enjoyable. Most of our players already knew each other from previous
grades over the years & have seen each other around the club.
The team also had a great social aspect with us frequently catching up with each other for some quiet drinks after the
games.
However, while we had wins against all of the 4 finalists & two impressive wins (5-2 & 3-1) against the eventual
Premiers (Camberwell), we played poorly against teams below us.
This was an issue as some weeks we would have key players missing due to coaching & umpiring commitments.
th
However, we eventually finished 5 after an away draw (5-5) at Casey. Ironically a win in that game would have put
nd
us in 2 spot with a real chance of making the Grand Final.
Next season we plan to get more stability into the team line up & have a real shot at making the finals.
THANK YOU:

To the numerous players who helped out from week to week

To Craig Armstrong, Wes Martin & Rod Kay who umpired many of our games

Jarryd Purser, Craig Armstrong & Mathew Trounce who ran the midweek training


Women’s Pennant E:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
I got asked to help out & coach in mid-season after Georgia was cleared to play hockey, the team was slowly building a
good team spirit & working hard for each other. In the 2nd half of the season we started to bring in some of the junior
players as well as getting Carlie, Kerrie & Yvette to play alongside them to mentor them & introduce them into senior
hockey.
There was a lot of growth in all the players in the 2nd half of the season, players played in new & unfamiliar positions
& took the challenge, the team really started to develop & worked really well together in every game. Our senior
players all took a step forward & worked hard, Sherryn & Anna up front started to generate chances to score, & Kelly
in midfield worked hard to feel the ball forward. Imogen, Carol in the back line were stalwart defenders all season
backed up by Rebecca & Lacey in the goals. Lacey & Bec also found themselves on the field playing in new & much
different positions. Rachael & Justine also found themselves in new positions by the end of the season, I really think
they played very well in those new positions as well.
With a lot of change in the team as we went, we finished strongly at the end of the year, we were a much better team.
Allowing the growth of all the players to happen together. Amelia played Centre Mid for the first time & was really
good there, Briony Dixon & Ruby Dowling added some great depth to the team.
THANK YOU:

I would like to thank Erika Newbegin for being the manager of the team for the season

Georgia Newbegin, for all her hard work at the start of the season coaching before she could play again

This year was particularly hard for the team as they were expecting to play in a local Metro competition, but instead
we found ourselves playing in one of the 2 x new Pennant competitions that had us travelling across town every
second weekend.
As we were not expecting this the playing group changed significantly from week to week & we were unable to settle
into a consistent playing pattern.
I would like to thank the players who persevered in the team this year & hope you all come back as we have entered
the team into Metro 1 which means we won’t have to travel further than Doncaster & we will be much more
competitive.

Men’s Metro A:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
One of the advantages of the Mens competition is that every player in the club is eligible to play. We made great use
of this freedom to the point where I felt we should be called the diversity team instead of the Mens team. For the first
time we had two regular female players, Lacey Martin & Lari Smith. We also included Kyle Derndorfer from U16s & 6
Masters players. This gave us an overall age range of 50 years from the youngest to the oldest.
I was particularly happy that we finally able to have Lacey Martin, Shane Martin & Wesley Martin playing in the same
game several times this year. They have each played in this team previously but we never managed to get them all in
the same game.
With the changes to the Metro & Pennant competitions we ended up in a significantly more challenging competition
than last year. While I feel that we played better this season we ended up struggling to be competitive in this division.
Our defence was relatively solid & I was happy to see players aggressively pursuing loose balls. Our real weakness is
that we struggled to connect passes when we had the ball. The team was very stable from last year with only Lari &
Kyle playing with the team for the first time this season. We finished 10th out of 12 teams with 3 wins & 3 draws.
While the majority of goals were scored by Caleb Jephcott there were 10 other gaol scorers throughout the season. It
was great to see so many players contributing to the scoring & it demonstrates the depth of talent & teamwork
exhibited by the team. It was great to see Andrew Masson getting back on the scoresheet after missing out for
several seasons.

Women’s Metro A:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
This season was the season of change. Coming off the back of achieving our 5 year plan & winning the Premiership in
2014, 2015 saw the whole Metro section re-graded landing us in a higher division in a different area zone. After an
extensive ‘trade period’ in the off season we had some fantastic new players & were eager to head into the unknown
of what lay ahead. To say we often joked that we wouldn’t win a game in this grade was an understatement but I am
very happy to report that we finished the home & away season with only 5 losses, 2 draws & 11 wins.
Whilst there were a couple of extremely good teams & a few controversial games throughout the season we managed
nd
to miraculously finish 2 on the ladder by 1 point. Our first final saw us battle La Trobe in conditions that can only be
described as an Antarctic blizzard & whilst we went down 3-0 this wasn’t a bad result against the team that scored 83
goals for the season sometimes beating teams 11-0. Next up we battled Camberwell & after a well fought game by
both teams it came down to penalty shoot outs. A massive shout out to our amazing goalie Amy who came up against
her worst fear & did us all proud, whilst we didn’t walk away with a spot in the Grand Final our team is now more
hungry than ever to win a flag in this higher division.

As most of you know we are a social community team, the majority of who had never played a game of hockey 6 years
ago but we pride ourselves on having built up a fun, friendly, cohesive environment that gives everyone a go &
encourages juniors to participate. We would like to say a massive thank you to the club for supporting our team along
the journey, we strive to be active members of the club & contribute in any way we can on & off the field.
THANK YOU:
I would like to acknowledge the following people for their help throughout the season:

Ray Heritage (Coach) has worked tirelessly for the last 6 years at training & games often missing his own
training to ensure we were ready for each match. A mostly social women’s team can be a lot to handle, but
Ray always has a smile & encouraging word even when the score isn’t going our way

Mary Heritage (Manager) like her son is very dedicated & attends every game possible to ensure the book is
filled in correctly, fees are collected & the all-important lollies & fruit are supplied

Lachy Purser (Umpire), Matt Holmes (Security) & Brendan Cox (Photographer) who make up our support
crew & whose assistance we needed this year more than ever!

Bob Crowley & Greg Purser (Committee) who have assisted in every way they can including listening to more
than their fair share of our concerns, issues & complaints
CONGRATULATIONS:

Best & Fairest – Emily Holmes

Players Player – Amy Heritage
We look forward to a fantastic 2016, working towards achieving our newest 5 year plan

Men’s Metro B:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
The Metro grades were difficult competitions this year under the revamped structure with teams nominating
rather than being promoted or relegated from the previous year.
Despite that, our team once again made the finals and were competitive in most matches. It was a difficult
proposition from week to week with changes in personnel through injury and other commitments and changes in
opposition strength. I don't think we had the same team two weeks in a row for the entire season.
There was a massive shift in the team this year with the younger members playing a more active part in the team
allowing the 'older' members to carry a reduced work load. Our best and most consistent players were juniors
this year with one of them winning our best and fairest.
Congratulations to our winner, Alex Pozzebon, who held down the centre half position this year against some
quality opposition. I expect to lose many of these player to higher teams next year.
THANK YOU:

Thank you to the core of older players who supported me throughout the year and made it a social team that
enjoyed itself off the field as well

I would also like to thank the parents of our junior players for their support throughout the year and the
dedication and commitment of the younger players to see our games through to the end

Masters Team Reports:
Men’s Masters 50+B (Green) & 50+B (White):
Thanks to all the players who played in both teams this year. It didn’t quite work having 2 teams in the same
competition & often players needed to double up.
Next year we are looking to retain one of the 50+B teams & enter another 45+ so we can integrate players that didn’t
want to play 45+A but were not old enough to play in the 50+ competition.

Men’s Masters 45+A:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
After winning the Masters 35B Premiership in 2014, the squad split in two & created 2 teams for the 2015 season,
stepping up into ‘A’ division in both 35+ & 45+, with both teams having successful seasons.
45A targeted to finish middle of the table first year in ‘A’ division, with the outcome at the end of the season a couple
of games short of the top 4, finishing 5th on the ladder.
It was a challenging & rewarding season with a squad of 21 & 14 core players. We always had 1 or 2 players on the
bench, with the balance ‘out of action’ suffering from ‘old man’ injuries.
It was also good to have Big Fella (Paul McLaughlin) & Greg Purser both come out of Masters Retirement & committed
to cold Monday night games!
Congratulations to those Masters players who have been selected in this year’s State & National team’s, & thank you
Fordy for sharing your pearls of wisdom at half-time’s.

Women’s Masters 35+A (Yesterday’s Hero’s):
SEASON OVERVIEW:
This season we were entered into A grade after requesting to play B grade. After the shell shock of the first game
against Mentone, a resoundingly 12 goal defeat, it was decided that we request to be re-graded, as we were clearly
out of our depth playing against 35+ A grade girls. Hockey Victoria requested we play the first 3 rounds & then they
would consider regrading us. So we played rounds 2 & 3 showing we were a little more competitive & as a result
HV, in their wisdom, decided we should stay in A-grade.
So a very challenging & defensive season it was for Yesterday’s Heroes. Lynne Tinetti, our hero, padded up for the
season & if it wasn’t for her, we would have had a far worse season than we did. Lynne was amazing in goals & I
think she has found her niche.
During the season we had quite a few players travelling overseas, so two walkovers were given.
Although it appeared to be a tough seasons, we like to think of it as a learning curve. The team was competitive in
the majority of the games, well we like to think we were, & I’m sure some of our skills have improved immensely. It
did not damper our after game activities.

Men’s Masters 35+A:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
This year was an amazing year for the Over 35’s. We stepped into A Grade for the first time with the competition at
over 35’s level & equipped ourselves exceptionally well.
The end result was a third place finish after being eliminated by Hawthorn in a tough preliminary final when we
unfortunately let a great lead slip away.
During the year the team was quite varied each week with many players missing games as is so often the case with
Masters, but overall we found 11 players every week & managed some great home & away results.
Overall I believe everyone had an enjoyable year & we look forward to everyone backing up again next year.
THANK YOU:

A big thanks to Lachy Purser, Ben Lardner & Rod Kay for their umpiring every Monday night. They may get

Mixed U16 Pennant:
SEASON OVERVIEW
We had a great year in 2015 winning the Premiership with 14 x Wins, 2 x Losses & a goal difference of +39.
We started training 6 weeks before the season & was generally had a good turnout although not quite enough players
for two teams. We had mixed results at the grading carnival, but it was pleasing to see that all players had made
progress since the 2014 season & we had a pretty good group of players to work with. As we had too many players
(19) for just 1 team we entered another U16 Mixed team in the District competition & relied on help from the U169
Girls team to make sure that everyone got a game each week. As this was the first year we have been in U16Pennant
South East we didn’t know anything about the teams or what the level of competition would be like. In Round 1 we
played Southern United at home which was a good first hit out with the team playing good hockey to come over the
top 5-0, great to see the progression of the younger guys in the team. We continued that form over the next 3 weeks
winning 7-0, 3-1 & 11-1 respectively. Round 5 we came up against a strong opposition in Camberwell & unfortunately
didn’t play our best hockey & ended up going down 1-0, ended resulted as a learning curb for the team who were
quite annoyed post-match. Round 6 we bounced back & beat one of the eventual top 4 teams & toughest opponents
of the season Yarra Valley 6-0 & round we played fellow Grand finalists Casey down at their home in Berwick (absolute
terrible venue). We came out with a 3-1 win which was quite pleasing. At the halfway mark we had hit 35 goals &
only conceded 3 which was very pleasing to say the least. Round 8 was the start of the home stretch & we really
needed to tighten the straps & continue our good form, which we did & came away with two 8-0 wins in Rounds 8 &
9. Round 10 was the turning point of the season we went down 2-3 at home to Doncaster & that’s when the team
realised they needed to be a bit more disciplined to have the on-field success we were working towards.
From then on we trained twice a week for an hour & a half as Michael & I agreed that one night per week was not
enough to work on the various areas of improvement we needed to. The results indicate it really helped the team
although they hated having a 30 minute running session each night as part of training. However, this work really did
show on the field & we absolutely ran teams into the ground. Round 11 was our best result all season with a 16-0 win
over Waverley, & the hard work at training was beginning to pay dividends. Round 12, 13 & 14 was a tough run home
Page 20 of 34
playing the other top four sides but I was ecstatic with the growth of the side & players stepping up like Nick Hayhoe
& Lachy Trinh. We won all three winning 4-0, 3-1 & 3-2 respectively.
We got our Captain (Matt Coen) back from injury for the Semi-Final against Yarra Valley which was a tight affair but
ended up coming out on top 2-1. A week later we played Casey in the Grand Final at Doncaster in front of a big Burra
crowd. It was a tough contest but the team played well & stuck to the game plan & came out on top in a 2-0 win, it
was a fantastic season & one that I’m sure the team & its supporters won’t forget.
CONGRATULATIONS & THANK YOU:

Congratulations to all the players, Matt Coen, Jordan Mulvaney, Karina De Vries Apted, Alex Pozzobon, Nick
Hayhoe, Louis Zorzanello, Noah Reade, Marcus Ludwick, Diedrick Six, Kyle Derndorfer, Matt Boylen, Caillen Pyke,

Thank you to our Team Manager David Reade, who did an outstanding job getting everything organised

Thank you to Teresa Kandell who dealt with any off field issues. We couldn’t have asked for a better coordinator

I would also like to thank the parents who were great all season & supported us & let us coach without too much
interference
Finally I want to wish the players all the best in the future, it was a pleasure to coach this year. You are a great bunch

This was my first year of coaching a junior team & I really enjoyed it.
I’d like to thank Ken Parkin for his support at training as well as the games he could attend.
I’d also like to thank the U16 players from the Mixed & Girls Pennant teams who helped out to ensure we had 12

Girls U16 Pennant (Green)
SEASON OVERVIEW:
We began the season with a team of girls who had all previously played with one another at some point in their years
of hockey. We soon welcomed four new girls into our team & were ready to play with a mixture of girls, some who
played seniors & some who were brand new to hockey.
The 2015 season for the U16 girls showed much promise with the u16s having won the premiership the year before.
The possibility of winning back to back premierships had the girls eager to play finals from the very beginning. Despite
a few lost opportunities early in the season, the girls put in the hard work to earn their place & finish in the top 4. The
real challenge was playing Mornington in the semi-finals. The girls had played them in the final round of the season &
had lost 2-1. While in the semi-final Mornington proved just how strong they were, our defence proved even stronger
& kept them goalless. We made the most of our chances, scoring both times from the only two short corners we
received during the game. Winning this game was the highlight of the season.
The u16 girls made it to the grand final but lost to a very determined Yarra Valley in penalty shoot outs. It was a great
experience for the team & really gave many of the girls the opportunity to stand up & lead by example. There was no
doubt that this season was truly a team effort, with the team coming together when it mattered most.
THANK YOU:
We would like to say thank you to Teresa Kandell for managing the u16 girls this year. Teresa did a great job of
organising for 2-3 girls to play in the u16 district team each week so as to ensure the girls were able to get a full game.
Teresa’s organisation skills made our lives so much easier & her efforts are much appreciated.
We would also like to thank all the parents for their support & positive attitudes throughout the season. A special
thanks to Tim Hogan who was always willing help in any way he could.
CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to Casey Kingi for winning the best & fairest & Emily Kandell for receiving the coaches’ award

Thanks to all the girls for their best season yet & a special mention to Ebony, Lauren & Hannah who all made
it to finals in their first year of hockey

Girls U14 Pennant:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
I would like to say how much I enjoyed coaching the Under 14 girls & hope that they did learn something this year
from Fi & myself that they can build on for future years playing hockey.
It has been a pleasure to watch weekly each of the girls demonstrate on the field something that we had been
practising at training. From just individual skills, or part of our game plan.
I coached senior women for quite some years in the past. This is my first year of coaching juniors & I quickly
discovered that I required quite a bit of patience & lots of time before each game to convey to the girls their positions
or simply some team talk. Time had to be allocated for the girls going off on tangents. The smallest thing would set
them off so I had to think of a way to keep them focused & focus on what I was saying.
Round 3 was the introduction of our “Nemo” round. I had found the connection & a way to keep the girls focused &
understand what I was trying to convey to them. I’ll explain (and you’ll only get this if you have seen the movie
Nemo). I changed a saying in the movie to be relevant to a hockey situation. In this instance, the saying was “Full
backs hit balls wide not up Centre”. Or in Bruce’s case it was “Fish are Friends not Food”.
Another example was the “Drop off”. Again, a Nemo reference.
I would like to thank, Fi, my assistant coach who helped me throughout the year. I hope Fi continues to coach in the
future. I believe she will make an excellent coach.
Fi & I have had a lot of help throughout this season too & I would like to thank Leanne for being our Team Manager.
As coaches, we don’t like to do all the “paperwork” & Leanne did a great job. I would also like to thank Tim Hogan for
coming down to training each week & helping Jess, our goalie with her training. I don’t know if you are aware, but the
Under 14 girls hit 40 goals this season, 43 if you count finals. The next best team only hit 19 for the season. A great
effort by our forwards. So, as you have guessed, I’m a forward & needed help with defence. So thank you Tim.
I would also like to thank Justin Hooper for his support throughout the year, helping me at training & his input into our
games. Another person is Kerry McKay who went along to help Fi whilst I was away.
And finally I would like to thank the U14 girls for putting in a great season. There was quite a difference from the first
game of the season to the last home & away game where the U14 girls took the only two goals away from Geelong. It
was a sensational game to watch & you should all be proud of yourselves. We finished second on the ladder & played
in the Grand Final against Geelong. We didn’t lose that game, but with the HV ruling, the gold was given to Geelong
for finishing the season on top of the ladder.
THANK YOU:
To the following support staff who made for a successful & enjoyable season:

Team Manager – Leanne Reeves

Assistant Coach – Fiona Bathie & Assistant to the Assistant Coach – Ebony Saddington


Lastly, I would like to make mention of two of our strikers who hit most of the goals, Hailee White & Amelia

I would like to make a special mention to Jess, our goalie. Jess had never played in goals before but kindly
volunteered to pad up for the first game. We quickly discovered she had a natural talent for keeping. She loved it so
much that’s where she stayed for the season.

Mixed U12 Pennant:
SEASON OVERVIEW:
This year was further evidence of the rebuilding that is happening with the Greensborough juniors. Due to a shortage
of numbers in one pennant grade Hockey Victoria combined both grades into a single strong pennant grade. Whilst
nd
we lost the semi-final to Southern United, we finished the year in 2 position behind Camberwell. They are a strong
club & won both the shield & pennant premierships this year. The second place finish meant that Greensborough
finished ahead of every other club that did not have a team in shield. That means that Greensborough are once again
knocking on the door of shield. Victorian hockey due the growth in numbers has greatly improved the standard of the
shield competition. So it is becoming harder to enter and/or remain in that grade.
The team only lost this year to Camberwell & Southern United (also a second team from a very strong junior club).
These two clubs played off in both the shield & pennant finals. The highlight of the year was the last round where we
beat a full strength Camberwell team 3-2 to secure the second spot on the ladder.
THE TEAM
We fielded 13 players for most games. This included 2 players who only commenced playing hockey this year. This
team was a great bunch of friendly kids. They gelled together extremely well as a group & played for each other.
Most were regularly early at training and we often commenced training 10 minutes early. After games & training
many still wanted to hang around & had to be forced to go home.
I attempted to play all players in their preferred position for at least some part of each game. This is a difficult juggling
act however the players were very good at understanding they had to share with their team mates.
Many of the players were bottom age so this augers well for next year. We do however need to improve our goal
scoring ability as the major goal scorer does go up to under 14.
THE LEADERS
Captain Harry Grattidge was a fantastic leader & quickly gained the respect of all players. He led with fierce
determination on the field & at times organised the warm up, small games etc. Jeffrey Kitson was a prolific goal
scorer but also a great team player. He often got break-aways & due to his speed, the other players were prevented
from catching up to support. However when they did he always tried to involve them in the play.
REPRESENTATIVE PLAYERS
Jeffrey Kitson & Ashlyn Reeves were both selected in the Red Devils representative team this year.
TROPHY WINNERS
Best player Jeffrey Kitson was our dominant forward & often the reason we won games due to his ability to score.
Early in the year he was attempting to blast the ball past the goalkeeper but once he developed the ability to simply
miss the goalie he became a regular scorer & was the highest goal scorer from all teams in the grade. His speech after
the semi-final was fantastic.
Best Team Man Alex Free. I found this decision the most difficult I have ever encountered. In the end I had the team
vote by secret ballot & they came up with 9 different names with Alex marginally in front of the rest.
BALL ATTENDANTS
Most of the players participated as Ball Attendants for the Premier League Teams & this was greatly appreciated by
both the men and women players.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Matthew Boylen & Jeff Dunn umpired our games this year & did a great job. Their assistance was greatly appreciated.
Rachel Dunn was Team Manager & performed her role extremely efficiently. As coach I just expect to walk out &
coach & not have to be involved with any of the organisational aspects including running the interchange roster.
Rachel kept everyone informed and made sure everything ran like clockwork.
Natalie Bryant as Co-ordinator was also extremely efficient. Before we had a Team Manager I relied heavily on Natalie
for all the organisational aspects. She was brilliant at that.
Erika Newbegin as Secretary gave great support & encouragement. I probably throw too much at her but I know I can
rely on her to get it done.
Bob Crowley as President gave me great support & that was much appreciated. It is important when coaching to
know that you have support & people who will listen to your concerns. Bob was great at that.
CONCLUSION
This was the most enjoyable year I have experienced coaching teams. Much of this was due to the friendly attitude of
the players and the great support from the support staff & parents.

SEASON OVERVIEW:
This year we had the privilege of coaching this team for the second year in a row. All Players were eager to learn new
skills & improve existing ones. Our focus this season was working heavily as a team & having lots of fun, each week
we were surprised by player’s skills & how happy hockey made them. Slowly through the season players started
working more as a team an in return started coming away with more & more wins which eventually brought us to the
semi-final against Box Hill. We put up a fantastic fight however Box Hill won in the end 2-0. We were very proud &
glad that our players had the experience of playing in a semi-final considering for a few of our players this was their
first year playing hockey.
We would like to say a big thank you to:


Ian Somerton for being our team manager & supporting us throughout the season.
Parents & family for coming to games, cheering everyone on & always being positive.
Congratulations to:

Mixed U10 (White):
SEASON OVERVIEW:
This season the U10 team improved every week, our first win for the year was the last game for the season. However
each week the kids tried their best & had fun each game.
What I enjoyed about coaching this year was that each of the players improved their skills, hockey knowledge & team
game week on week. The kids all played well as a team & started to understand the game plan. Appreciating their
own improvements & working on individual aspects of their own game.
I loved coaching this particular group because they were so keen to get out there & play, sharing time on the bench &
trying new positions each game. They were supportive of each other & always had an awesome attitude towards the
opposition. The term GG (Good Game) was coined by the Greensborough team & used when shaking hands at the
end of the game.
THANK YOU:
I would like to say a huge thank you to the following people for all their help & support this season.

Craig Armstrong for umpiring, stepping in to coach & running the interchange bench during the season, I truly
appreciate you doing this job each week! You did a great job & were very supportive to both me & the kids.

Greensborough U10 girls started the 2015 season with one girls team, but with additional players becoming available
during the season, the original team was split & two teams were entered - Green & White. Both teams were created
to try & keep friendship groups together & to try & have a fairly even split, not an A & a B team.
The split wasn’t ideal mid-season, so hopefully we can get numbers early on next season to avoid having to do this
again next year. Although the girls & parents seemed to accept it with positivity.
Training on Monday nights worked well, & participation was high, with almost everyone attending each week – rain,
hail or shine to both games & training.
The girls came a long way with ability & confidence. Lots of friendships & strong connections were made, which
hopefully they can keep throughout the years
THANK YOU:
We would like to thank the following people who provided terrific support to the team this year:
