AT UltraSuperNew GALLERY ULTRASUPERNEW GALLERY and EMBASSY OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS are delighted to organise the exhibition “Juxtapose -‐ Dutch Art and Design” curated by KANA KAWANISHI. By exhibiting works of photography artists and designers in juxtapose -‐ positioned side by side -‐, this exhibition will allow a new overview and in-‐depth understanding of creativity from the Netherlands.
Micky HOOGENDIJK’s “Fortitudo” is a strong image of a man striding forward in high contrast of black and white. It’s masculine silhouette beautifully expresses the bold determination of proceeding with its simple compositional division from past to future. Micky HOOGENDIJK “Fortitudo” 2013, I nkjet Print, 1105×1910mm Hiroshi ONO “Waterland -Het heldere landschap-” 2010, Lambda Print, 370×598mm
Hiroshi ONO’s “Waterland -Het heldere landschap-” is a beautiful juxtapose image of Dutch landscape and waterscape aside each other in respect to its history. Man-‐made land in the Netherlands is created by reclamation, beginning from a waterscape then withdrawing its water. The peaceful images allow us to experience the views of current and the past with its subdued clearness, peacefulness and freedom. Contemporary art and design have always been placed together side by side. Ceramics is a fine example of Dutch design combined with Japanese craftmanship producing an outstanding creative and innovative result. This unique exhibition gives a clear vision of Dutch inspiration in a new perspective. 1616 / Arita Japan "Colour Porcelain (Coffee Cup / Saucer)”
