Skidding two STS cranes in Termont Terminal
Skidding two STS cranes in Termont Terminal Skidding the IR1401 crane towards the seaside to rest it in its final position ALE has skidded 2 STS (Shift To Shore) cranes at Termont Terminal in Montreal Canada. The first crane, IR1401, weighed 680t and the second crane, IR1920, weighted 980t. The skidding was carried out by SS300t skidding system (300t skidshoes, 300t push-pull hydraulic units and skid tracks and spreader mats). The SS300t system was used because of its capability for spreading the ground pressure and its efficiency in performing these type of movements. Project: Skidding 2 STS cranes in Termont Terminal Place: Montreal, Canada Equipment: Skidding system 300t (Power Pack, 300t capacity skidshoes, 300t system push-pull units, skid tracks and spreader mats.) Weight: IR1401: 680t, IR1920: 980t ALE, P.I. Los Frailes. Ctra Alcalá de Henares a Daganzo, km 9. The transport beams, designed by ALE as connection points between the transport beams and the cranes, were installed underneath the brackets. As there was less than 1m between the sea side railing and the edge of the quay, ALE had to configure the skidding system in this way in order to position the sea side skidshoes inside the quay. General arrangement of skidding system using 4 skidshoes and transport beams The IR1920 crane needed to change the skidding direction three times. To achieve this, four plates formed a “C” in each corner and were welded between the transport beams and the brackets to ease changing the direction of the skidshoes and avoid uninstalling the transport beams every time we changed the configuration of the skidding system. Skidding and rotating of the IR 1920 crane through curved skidding lines IR1401 operation: The operation of the IR1401 crane involved skidding it 50m inland to allow the relocation of two other existent cranes. Once the other two existent cranes were moved to the other side, the IR1420 crane was skidded back to its initial position on the railing. IR1920 operation: The IR1920 crane is a new crane constructed in Termont Terminal. The operation involved moving it 300m from the construction area to its final position on the permanent railings. The operation of this crane was divided into five phases as follows: Skidding 150m parallel to the quay. During this phase, the crane was skidded through a curve to avoid an interference with a lamp spot. Changing the configuration and skidding the crane 50m perpendicularly to the railing. The main purpose of skidding perpendicularly was to avoid interference with existing containers. Changing the configuration and skidding the crane 100m to reach its final position. Lowering the crane to the railings. Skidding on land using IR1401 crane
