Handbook,
The diesel engine is the world’s workhorse because it delivers more
power, efficiency and durability than gasoline-powered engines.
But diesel isn’t just big rigs; it’s hard at work everywhere big power
is needed, from cruise ships and offshore drilling platforms to power
stations, farm equipment, railroads and mining.

Trucking. Almost 90 percent of all
commercial trucks in the U.S. are dieselpowered. Most long-haul trucks today are
diesels, and roughly 1.2 million diesel trucks
were added to our nation’s fleets in the
1990s alone.
Railroads. The railroad industry in the U.S.
operates roughly 20,000 locomotives—and
all of them are diesels.
A graduate of WyoTech’s diesel
technology and applied service management programs, Herman-Calvin
owns and runs Ultimate Diesel Performance, which does basic diesel
repair as well as high-performance
transmissions, twin turbo set-ups,
head studs, custom exhaust and complete teardown and rebuilds.
The 698 horsepower shop truck—a
Dodge Ram 2000—has 1,400 footpounds of torque. Built as a test bed
and demonstration of the shop’s capabilities, the truck is also a rolling
advertisement.
Since opening, Herman-Calvin has
added two employees, an eBay store
and a successful website for his
online parts business. Check it out at
www.ultimatedieselperformance.com.
Ports. Ocean-going container ships are
powered by some of the largest diesel
engines ever made. These vessels transport
the majority of U.S. imports and exports.
Transportation. More than 95 percent of
the nation’s full-sized transit buses are
powered by diesel.
Mining. Mining utilizes nearly $7 billion
worth of diesel-powered equipment,
including drills, trucks and conveyor belts.
Construction. Roughly 850,000 dieselpowered vehicles are in use bringing
supplies, materials and workers to and
from U.S. construction sites.

Trained collision repair technicians are in demand, considering newer
automobiles require more advanced skills. And the demand for skilled
technicians increases every year, as current technicians retire.*
I-CAR, the Industry Conference On Auto Collision Repair, is an
international, not-for-profit organization dedicated to training the
collision industry. WyoTech is a member of the I-CAR Training
Alliance and students may apply for I-CAR credit for many of the
training modules used throughout the Collision Refinishing course.
WyoTech is also an I-CAR Welding Qualification test site and students
have the opportunity to take this hands-on performance test while
attending WyoTech.

Aircraft today are on the leading edge of technology, with advances
in electronics, composite materials and systems. The industry as a

Located on the southeast side of the San Francisco Bay, Fremont is a city
of over 210,000 people, making it the fourth largest city in the Bay Area.
Close to airports and diverse cultural and recreational activities, Fremont
captures the best of metropolitan and outlying rural living. Infineon
Raceway is nearby, as is the only car manufacturer west of the Mississippi—New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (a joint venture between
General Motors and Toyota). We also have a long-term partnership with
Skip Barber Racing and Laguna-Seca Speedway.
The Bay Area Rapid Transit System offers easy access to and from
WyoTech and the entire Bay Area. With average high temperatures in
the 60s and 70s year-round, Fremont is a great place for the WyoTech
student.
For more information about Fremont, visit www.ci.fremont.us.
H o using
Located within a mile of the WyoTech campus, both Mill Creek and
Willow Creek Apartments house many Fremont students. These
furnished apartments feature patios or balconies, fireplaces and air
conditioning. The complex also offers a game room, coin-operated
laundry facilities, an outdoor grill and a fitness center. You may also
choose to find your own housing in the Fremont area; we’re happy
to make recommendations.

Our Oakland campus is located at Oakland International Airport,
giving students the exciting opportunity to train in a real airport

Nestled between the coastal hills and the San Francisco Bay,
Oaklanders enjoy balmy temperatures year-round. Home to the
Oakland Raiders, the Oakland A’s, and the Golden State Warriors,
Oakland, population 400,000, has more parks and open space per
capita than any other city in the Bay Area.
Oakland also has a rich history in aeronautics. The city was the
site of the first aircraft flight in the west, by balloon. Many famous
aviators trained at the Alameda and Oakland airfields (like Amelia
Earhart), and the city’s aviation schools still train many pilots. The
Oakland Airport was long the premier airport on the West Coast
and is still today the ninth busiest airport in the world.
For more information on Oakland, visit www.oaklandcvb.com.

WyoTech Oakland students live in The Gateway Hotel, located right
across the street from campus. Convenient and safe, the hotel is
just a two-minute walk from the main administration building. Two
students share a fully furnished room with two twin beds, bathroom
and balcony. Heat, electric, water, basic cable and local telephone
are included in the rent. The hotel also has a swimming pool and a
coffee shop. In addition to the Gateway Hotel, we also recommend
two real estate companies in the area who are available to help find
reasonably priced apartments for our students.

WyoTech Boston’s history dates back to 1932, when the aviation
school first opened as East Coast Aero Tech. Today the program is
housed in a complex of three buildings with a total of 50,000 square
feet of space for labs, shops, classrooms and administrative offices.
All campus buildings are within easy walking distance of each other,
with plenty of parking available. The largest of these buildings is the
John T. Griffin Sr. Building, which contains the school’s administrative
offices, bookstore, library, classrooms, shops and labs. The George W.
Thomas Hangar and the Catherine A. Mayo Building contain more
shops, labs and classrooms. Shops and labs are equipped with aircraft
and aircraft system mock-ups used for student training.

WyoTech is more than a school. It’s the experience of a lifetime.
Once you’re on campus, you’ll be immersed in a culture that shares your
passion and interests.
Our instructors come from the industry and love what they do. They’ll
work with you to pass on their knowledge, equipping you for the real
world. Our facilities are full of vehicles, testing equipment and tools
— everything to ensure your success in the workplace.
We also understand that employers hire the person, not just the skills.
So we emphasize your personal and professional development, including
attendance, appearance and attire.
Students come to our campuses from across the country (and even the
globe). You’ll meet new people and form lifelong friendships with others who have similar interests. To make the most of your free time, our
Student Services Departments facilitate outside activities.

At WyoTech, we work hard and we reward hard work. Students
who achieve high marks are honored with special awards. Special
privileges may also be offered to high-achieving students during the
school year. For example, paid peer tutor positions are available at
some campuses.
A student is honored with a perfect
attendance certificate.
Graduation ceremonies are held at every campus for each graduating class. The choice to enroll, attend and complete your training at
WyoTech is a big accomplishment, and your family is encouraged to
attend graduation and cheer you on as you receive your hard-earned
diploma or degree.
wyotech 2 0 0 8 v i ewboo k
Employers prefer to hire students with excellent class attendance
because they know that students who show up for class will show
up for work. To reinforce the importance of strong attendance, we
formally recognize students who achieve excellent attendance.

If you want to go to WyoTech, we’re here to help make your dream a
reality. The majority of students use some form of financial aid.
Loans and other financial aid sources are available for those who qualify.
We make every effort to ensure that students who have the desire and
ability to benefit from the education offered at our campuses are given
that opportunity.
After you enroll, you will receive a call from a WyoTech Guide to assist
you in completing the financial aid process. He or she will work with you
(and your parents, if appropriate) to complete the necessary paperwork
and walk you through financing options.
Rest assured that we are here to help you every step of the way.
WyoTech participates in the following programs:
• Federal Pell Grant Program
• Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
• Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan
• Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

WyoTech’s reputation is built on the depth of its programs and the professionalism
required of its students. In fact, employers seek out WyoTech graduates because
they’ve been trained to value attendance, on-time arrival and professional dress and
overall appearance—the same values that are desirable in the workplace.
As a prerequisite for admission, each WyoTech applicant must sign and agree to
abide by academic and professionalism standards in our Student Conduct Code.
Students who follow the Code are better able to focus on learning, earn better
grades and are more employable upon graduation.

Our Housing Staff is available to help students find convenient, affordable and

you can also call the campus you have chosen and ask to speak with the housing or

WyoTech is what it takes to get the best start on your career in
transportation maintenance and repair. Here’s what it takes to
get started at WyoTech:
1. Meet with an Admissions Representative.
Call to schedule an interview with your local WyoTech representative.
He or she will come to your home and talk to you and your family about
your career goals and WyoTech’s programs.
2. Enroll.
At the end of the interview, together you’ll decide if WyoTech is a good
match for you—and if it is, your representative will help you complete an
application. WyoTech’s programs are popular and seats fill up months
in advance. Enrolling as soon as possible will help get you a spot in the
courses of your choice.
3. Complete the student financial planning process.
Get started on this immediately after you enroll. You can fill out and
submit forms online, and your personal WyoTech Guide will be available
to help you every step of the way.
4. Make housing and travel arrangements.
Again, it’s best to get started on housing arrangements as soon as you
enroll. Your WyoTech Guide will help you find a convenient, safe and
affordable place to live while you go to school.
5. Start your program.
Pick up your tools and get to work in our modern facilities. In as few
as six months, you can complete your training at WyoTech and start a
career you’ll love.
