Kings of Leon formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999. The band is composed of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill lead vocals, rhythm guitar, Ivan Nathan Followill, drums, percussion, backing vocals and Jared Followill, bass guitar and backing vocals, with their cousin Cameron Mabhew Followill, lead guitar and backing vocals. The band's early music was an upbeat blend of Southern rock and blues influences, but it has gradually expanded throughout the years to include a variety of genres and a more alternaSve, arena rock sound. Their third album, Because of the Times, also reached the number one spot. Aher the release of Only by the Night in September 2008 the band achieved chart success in the United States. The singles "Sex on Fire", "Use Somebody", and "NoSon" all peaked at number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album was their first PlaSnum-­‐selling album in the United States, and was also the best-­‐selling album of 2008 in Australia, being cerSfied plaSnum nine Smes. The band's fihh album, Come Around Sundown, was released on October 18, 2010. Their sixth album, Mechanical Bull, was released on September 24, 2013. Their youngest brother, Jared, who had briefly abended public school, was more influenced by the music of the Pixies and The Velvet Underground. The older Followills bought their li@le brother a bass, when he was a freshman in high school. "We locked ourselves in the basement with an ounce of marijuana and literally spent a month down there and our mom would bring us food down”. He is bass player, songwriter, and harmony vocalist for the rock band Stone Temple Pilots. He has also played in Talk Show and Army of Anyone. He is the younger brother of STP guitarist Dean DeLeo. Robert met Sco@ Weiland(who would eventually become lead singer of STP) at a Black Flag concert in Long Beach. They soon realized that they were both daKng the same woman. A\er she moved to Texas, Weiland and Deleo moved into her San Diego apartment, where they tried to form a band. They played many gigs around LA bars, and were eventually signed onto AtlanSc Records in 1992. However, the name "Mighty Joe Young" had already been taken, so the band was forced to change their name to "Stone Temple Pilots.” During their years, STP came to be one of the most successful bands of the 90's. Robert is credited with much of the band's music, including the famous intros for the songs "Plush" and "Interstate Love Song". Although sales of their records eclipsed over 30 million, the band disbanded due to Scob Weiland's conSnuous problems with drug abuse. STP reunited in early 2008 and completed a reunion tour. During the STP years, DeLeo has used a wide variety of equipment. Though he uses his signature Model-­‐T Schecter live, for recording purposes he has used a wide variety of basses. He has a fondness for oddball off-­‐brand basses from the 1960s, parScularly short-­‐scale hollowbody basses which he strung with flatwound strings according to a Bass Player Magazine, November 2001 interview). DeLeo's usual live rig while with STP consists of an Alembic F1X preamp, a QSC MX1500 power amp, three Eden 2x12 cabinets and three Eden 4x10 cabinets. One 2x12 and one 4x10 cab are placed on either side of the drum riser, and the third stack is placed on DeLeo's side of the stage and kept in reserve as a backup. The updated K5 takes an opposite aestheSc approach of Fieldy’s black signature bass and features a flat white finish as well as a white painted maple fretboard. The white theme is accented with a set of blue DR Neon strings and a special K5 inlay at the 12th fret. It’s built with a five-­‐piece maple and bubinga neck bolted into a mahogany body. The pickups are a pair of ADX5’s matched to a 3-­‐band EQ with a variable mid-­‐frequency. Its control layout has volume and pickup blend knobs, a stacked treble/bass knob, and a stacked knob with the mid boost/cut and mid frequency control. The retro styled bass is adorned with an extensive pearl pickguard, white binding, star inlays in the fretboard and a sparkle finished headstock.
