11 March 2016 CHARTS – Childers Art Space 7am start A delightful
Feb- Mar 2016 Hi to all The year has started off with some wonderful rain and our region is looking beautiful and green. Hopefully you have enjoyed the rain and not too many have had damage from the storms. What a great turn up we had to the Community Christmas Lunch - from memory we had about 116 attend the Isis Club for our annual Christmas Luncheon. The Isis Club did not disappoint with a beautiful hot roast and lovely desserts. We have had loads of positive feedback about the day, service, music, cent sale prizes and this is always nice to hear. We want everyone to enjoy the day, afterall it is all about you. Some happy snaps are inside this edition. We have our Neighbourhood Centre Services Survey out also and we would really appreciate your feedback. It is through these surveys that we know how we are travelling and what you would like us to do and plan for the next year. It also tells us what we need to improve on. I know it can be annoying but if you could complete the survey and return, that would be great. We want to make sure we are providing the best programs we can. In the session we will talk about what happens in our brains and body during stressful times, and how we can manage stress through our thoughts, good self care and stress reduction exercises such as deep breathing, imagery and mindfulness. Financial Literacy Education - BUDGETING Date: Monday 22nd February Time: 10.45am Venue: Childers Neighbourhood Centre 69 Churchill Street Financial stress can affect all aspects of a persons life. It can effect the relationships between friends, partners and children and can increase feelings of being trapped. It can be from not having enough to pay for groceries or the mortgage or even the little or big extras from take away to holidays. Budgeting can help decrease financial stress as you build a sense of control around your finances and setting reachable financial goals. During this session we will discuss basic budgeting tips as well as life hacks to save money and decrease your stress levels. Community Christmas Luncheon 2015 Whether you are under or over 65 (50 if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander), there may be some changes in the referral process to access funded programs through Isis Community Care but the services we provide are basically the same. If you require assistance that will enable you to remain living in your own home, need some social interaction or access to transport, please call in or phone the Neighbourhood Centre on 4130 4690 for further information. The Day Respite Group ended 2015 with an in-house Cruise. The room was transformed to create the atmosphere of being on board a cruise ship. The photos below show tables decorated with palm leaves and flowers, clients dressed in casual cruise wear, wore coloured leis and played games with a boating theme. Drinks were ordered from a list of fruit mocktails and proved to be quite popular. Lunch was buffet style with chicken, prawns, cold meats, salads and fruit platters on offer. And…. of course we had the obligatory Christmas crackers with the usual lame jokes, party hats and trinkets. We had a few disappointed clients who were not well enough to be there but those who did attend had a very enjoyable day. Jeanette Alice accepting her 'thank you' bouquet at 2015 Community Christmas Luncheon After more than 30 years as a volunteer for Childers Meals on Wheels, Alice Upham has reluctantly decided it is time to relinquish her duties. We take this opportunity to thank Alice for her valued contribution in supporting the service and wish her all the best. Many thanks Alice from the volunteers, staff and clients of the service. Meals on Wheels are delivered each Monday, Wednesday and Friday and consist of soup or a dinner roll, a delicious nutritious hot meal with dessert and juice for just $6.50. Individual needs are met across cultures, religion, diet and/or medical condition. We had such a busy end to 2015 it was so nice to have a little break over Christmas and New Year. We hope everyone had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends and relax and enjoy this beautiful country of ours. The Child and Family program was very fortunate to receive extra funds through Innovation funding provided by the Department of Education and Early Childhood in 2015.
