Friday, October 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Come to the Kendallville Public Library or its Limberlost Branch in Rome City to complete your e-Learning work with friends. Homework help will be available, and the library will provide structured activities and games, as well as lunch, on Friday, October 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is open to grades K-12, but only the first 75 registered students may attend in Kendallville, and the first 30 registered students may attend in Rome City. Call the library (KPL: 260-343-2010 or LPL: 260-854-2775) to sign up, or register through the online event calendar at www.kendallvillelibrary.org. Take The Cortex Challenge! The Cortex crew has issued a challenge to all the makers out there...design and create the best 3D model! Using whatever 3D program you choose (we recommend Thingiverse, SketchUp, Tinkercad or Blender), design your own 3D model from scratch, and print it using our 3D Printer. Design from scratch means that you start with a blank slate, and build it on your own - you can’t take a design someone has already developed and alter it. Design and print your model, then have a staff member snap a photo of it. The contest runs October 1 through November 30. Then, photos of the models will be on display for voting from December 1 through December 15. The winner in each age group (815 and 16 and up) will win 100 grams of 3D printing in the color of your choice (to use all at once or on multiple projects as needed). What are you waiting for? Start designing! Oh, and all Cortex policies apply. Please see www.kendallvillelibrary.org or pick up a brochure at the library for all the details. Welcome to Oz! Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz at the Kendallville Public Library throughout the month of October. Walk the yellow brick road; visit Munchkin Land, solve riddles, flee the witch, and make your way ‘home’. Your journey awaits in the Adult Department in Kendallville. Watch the movie with us, too! 3 Meet the Author: Roland Smith October 6th marks the day that Roland Smith releases The Edge, the much awaited sequel to Peak. Haven’t read Peak, now is the time! This book takes us to the top of Mount Everest and back down again, Peak joins his father half way around the world to attempt to be the youngest to summit the highest mountain in the world. Smith is known for writing high action books that draw students in and leave them begging for more. One of his most popular series is the Storm Runners series. This series follows a boy and his father as they travel to Florida in the middle of hurricane season to help residents prep for the storms and recover from the destruction as they pass. Doesn’t sound like your thing, no problem, Smith writes books for everyone. Check out the Cryptid series: Sasquatch, Tentacles, Mutation, or Chupacabra -- wonderfully exciting stories set around those elusive beasts of lore. Or check out any of the other books written by this author, but be sure to add Beneath to your list -- the book Smith himself calls “his best work.” Play, learn and earn* at our WordUP events! *Each time you attend a WordUP event with your child (under age 5), you can earn a voucher for the BABE Store inside Life and Family Services!
