Energy saving motors Pole-changing motors www.vem-group.com Pole-changing motors Drives for industry, craft trades and agriculture Pole-changing motors Versatile, reliable and efficient Pole-changing motors are designed for drives with constant torque characteristics and drives with quadratically rising torque because of the torque characteristics of the working machine. The motors can be calculated only for one rated voltage, for example 230 V, 400 V or 690 V. They are generally designed for direct starting by using the different poles. Other voltages and frequencies are available as option. The pole-changing is done by › two separate windings › one winding in Dahlander connection › two separate windings with one in Dahlander connection › two separate windings both in Dahlander connection. Whereas it is only possible to reach a speed ratio of 1:2 for a winding with Dahlander connection, two separate windings offer the possibility of different speed ratios. However for the same basic design the latter has lower output. Alternative speed control without power electronics The connection is done as Y or Δ for separate wind ings; for windings with Dahlander type the connection is done as Δ/YY or Y/YY. For the different pole ratios the connection listed in the tables for motor selection data is valid. It is possible to use star-delta-starting for the biggest pole number (smallest speed), if the op erating circuit is Δ. Pole-changing three-phase VEM motors with squirrelcage rotor are available in two designs, based on the dimensions and sizes specified in IEC 60072. Pole-changing motors are suitable above all for use in ventilation systems and general mechanical engineering, but at the same time also as drives for conveyor belts.
