PNW4WDA
President
Hi Everyone,
Each month I think “What will I write
about this month?” and then poof
something happens that makes it
easy.
August 8th-11th was the PNW4WDA’s
annual Summer Convention. For those
of you who attended you know how
much fun it was, for those of you who
were unable to attend you missed a
GREAT time! Each year a Region bids
to host or the Competition Committee
hosts the event. This year a group of
Future 4 Wheelers got together and
said “Hey we can do this”. Chaired
by Brody Morris and Adam May this
group set out to organize Summer
Convention 2013. They were able to
obtain the Monroe Adventure Park in
Monroe, WA for the venue.
Together with the help of family, friends
and a couple of clubs they put on
a fantastic event. Each detail from
courses, to trophies, to entertainment,
to water truck and everything in
between was taken care of. Not a lot
of drag racers this year which was a
shame as the drag strip was all sand
and very nice. The drag lights were
not functioning correctly and the comp
committee is working on them to see
if we can update the computers and
get them back in operation for next
year. A special thanks to Ian Haverluk
whose butt, I believe was glued to the
seat of the water truck for several days
straight. Ian doesn’t race but is always
there to help out the different clubs
when they need it.
Another thing you can say when
someone asks “What does the PNW
do for me?” is to tell them we raise
some of the best kids ever. Watching
these young adults step up and host an
event that most adults are afraid to do
was amazing!
Summer Convention this year had
a great showing from all around our
Association including some racers
who have been in hibernation for 10
plus years. The dance on Friday night
even had the “I DON’T DANCE” crowd
showing off their moves.
I want to say THANK YOU to all of
the Future 4 Wheelers who stepped
up and to everyone who supported
them by either working the event or by
showing up to camp and/or compete. I
can’t wait to see what the future holds
for these hard working young adults.
On another note, as I am writing
this article I am in Idaho visiting my
grandmother. While here I had the
opportunity to make a connection with
some of the Idaho clubs. I look forward
to working with them as we share the
same goal of the continuation of
responsible motorized recreation.
Well, until next month I wish each of
you a happy and safe end to a great
summer!

Randy Drake
Oregon Exec. Director
I like the month of September. It was
the month I left my mother’s womb. It
was the month I started the first grade.
The month of September I received
my first pocket watch. In September
I had received ten dollars from selling
crawdad tails and promptly walked into
the second hand store and bought a
used Remington 22 single shot rifle.
With the my last remaining 50 cents
I bought two boxes of long rifle shells
all without an adult other than the
saleslady being present. It was the last
of the days of September on a very
frosty morning I shot my first deer and
that was way exciting. The first year
of high school started in September
and who could forget those days. It
was the month I literally left the farm
to see the world in 1970. It was the
month I came back to a radically gone
crazy world in 1973. It is the month to
gather in the harvest but most of all
it is the month to reflect back on the
wondrous days of summer. It has the
first day of frost which nips the buds off
the things you did not get done as the
days of summer just slipped away. Fall
is approaching but here on the high
plateau the day temperature is still hot
in the daylight hours but it is getting
cooler every night. The sun is moving
south along the Cascades and all too
soon the cool evenings will be cold and
Jack Frost will appear before you read
this.
Most of all September is the month to
begin a new year of four-wheeling. The
rain which begins falling will soon turn
the dry earth into a wheeling season of
no more dust clouding ones vision. The
four-wheelers will soon fill the public
lands and hunting season begins in
earnest. Perhaps the mammals and
game-birds the hunters seek would
prefer September not to arrive but the
hunters most likely will not consider
their preferences. After all it is just good
to get out and onto public lands in your
OHV and hunting is just an excuse to
fire these mechanical beasts up.
Then there is the most; bested day ever
and that is Labor Day which only occurs
once a year and that is in September.
For over forty years I and other fourwheelers (OHV’s of all description)
will fill the large playground of sand at
Christmas Valley on Labor Day. There
are very few places left in the world
where motorized vehicles can enjoy
a weekend so enjoyable. It is a fact
in this month if you drive out into the
center of these dunes and sit quietly
you can hear the mountainous dunes
calling you by nameand taunting you to
come play with them. The sand is at its
best and the dunes beckon you to come
out to see their beauty. The sun moves
about them all day casting the unique
shadows, contrasting the contoured
lines of the dunes just begging to be
ran. These lines are only exposed to
the September OHV users as the sun’s
angle is what exposes these beautiful
dunes to the OHV user’s eyes. Eyes
will experience the most spectacular
sunrise and sunsets as the haze in the
sky is always present in September. It
must be experience firsthand as the
words and pictures never can measure
up to actually standing under that entire
splendor of a light show created by
nature. Leaving the viewer in awe and
it should be noted these spectacular
views really need to be shared with an
extremely close companion. Nature’s
beauty always tends to stir the spirits
within the savage beasts and docile
humans alike.
Region 3 will be hosting the Fall
Delegates Meeting in September. For
those who are attending the address
is placed in Tri-Power by Region 3.
With these words now written hopefully
some three thousand member of the
PNW are thumbing through Tri-Power
so they can make sure their Delegates
will be attending.
At this meeting the Oregon delegation
needs to nominate the next Oregon
Executive Director. I will not be running
for another term as it is time for others
to get involved. Please consider those
around you and hopefully four or five
can be nominated.
September 21st will be the road 430
maintenance and the cleanup of the
sand dunes at North Bend. It will be
hosted by Strawberry Hill 4-Wheelers
of Region 6 and should begin around
9:00am. Camping is available at
Houser Overflow Area starting on
Friday-Sunday provided by the Forest
Service. The Region 6 Meeting will be
approximately at 2:00pm and a potluck
will be provided by the attendees with
Strawberry Hill cooking of hamburgers
and hotdogs. It is a very good time to
get out and enjoy the sand dunes at
North Bend and wheeling with your
brethren. The Contact for this is Paul
and Gwen Norman and they can be
reached at 541-740-2318 or e-mail at
[email protected].
Rim Butte and Ochoco Summit are still
in the land mangers hands and are
still in process but have not come out
for the final public comment as of this
time. BLM lands east of the Cascades
are on hold till the Sage Grouse issues
have been resolved.

Angela Holm
Region 1 Director
August 21st, 2013
The meeting was called to order by
Angie Holm at 7:15, moment of silence
for the ill and departed. There were
11 delegates present, representing 6
clubs.
Guests: No guests tonight
Correspondence: None.
Secretary Report: Barb May, Outdoor
4x4’s made a motion to accept the
minutes as written in Tri-Power and
distributed to Yahoo Groups, Second
by Ed Tenney, Timber Tamers, passed
with no objection.
Directors Report:
•
Idaho Director was removed
from office by the BOD. At the direction
of the attorney and request from the
former Idaho Director, the subject
of his removal will be discussed at
Fall Delegates Meeting. This is an
important issue and event and each
club is encouraged to send their
delegates so they are apprised of the
current issue and outcome, if any. Fall
Delegate Meeting information can be
found on the PNW website.
•
There is now a new 3D option
for the Tri-Power. This option allows
you to read it like a newspaper instead
of in the pdf format. The pdf format is
still available as well. The Bylaws and
the SOPS are also in this alternative
format.
Treasurer’s Report: There was a
written report. Dan was not present
but there were no questions of the
report at this meeting.
Competition:
Bubba was not in
attendance, however Dave Taylor
discussed the huge success of
Summer Convention which was put on
by the Future 4 Wheelers. The Monroe
Adventure Park is turning out to be a
great place to hold events as this was
PNW’s third event at this venue. There
will be an event called Jail Break on
9/14/13 and members of the PNW,
individuals and a few clubs have been
asked to ‘man’ the rally course.
The last play day of the season will
be on September 28th and 29th at the
Silver Ridge Ranch off of I-90 put on
by Doo Wop.
Land & Legislative:
Walker: There is a work party every 2nd
Saturday of each month. Nothing new
going on.
Reiter: This past weekend Reiter
Trail Watch (RTW) hosted an opening
event for the new connection trail that
just opened. Ed stated that he had a
difficult time, though there is no incline/
decline he still had to winch a couple
of times. It’s following in the steps of
more technical. However, there is trail
work being done on another section
which will give at least four times the
amount of what is currently open. This
new trail will have terrain and is hoping
to be opened by the end of September.
Ed stated a potential PR event and
will be in contact with Angie with more
information.
Mt Baker/Snoqualmie: Roadless Plan,
road to trail conversion, cost is $50K
for 1 mile of road to trail. There will be
4-Wheelin’ News
9 meetings in the Puget Sound area,
there is a lot of opposition, meetings
will be posted and the 4x4 members
need to make a good showing. They
are looking for people/clubs to host
meetings, you’ll need to provide snacks
& beverages, as well as a speaker,
note taker and each table needs a
group leader. The locations that are
in our area are Monroe (September
24th, 1:00-3:00) Everett (October 9th,
5:30-8:00), Darrington (August 21st, 4:
30-7:00) and Bellingham (September
10th), Rainier Ridge Rams has already
volunteered for this location. An
updated hosting schedule will follow.
Ed has expressed an interest in
stepping down from his current position.
Chris from Around the Sound seemed
interested at July’s meeting but has
since declined. If anyone is interested
in taking over the land issues for the
region, please contact Ed directly. Ed
will continue his position until someone
expresses an interest in taking it over.
Club Power/We Did It/Quill Power:
Keep filling out your forms and turning
them to Angie to be sent off to Kathy
Greenwood. Pictures would be great
too. Angie also would like the clubs
turning in the forms to submit an article
to Tri-Power.
Membership/PR: Give Angie at least
two weeks-notice so she can arrange
to be at the event.
Sunshine: As of July’s meeting, Gina
regretfully resigned her position as
Sunshine due to conflicting schedules.
Tom from Around the Sound has
agreed to step up and take this position
over. If you would like a sympathy/get
well/best wishes type of card sent to
another club, please contact Tom at
[email protected] with all the contact
information, including the address on
where to send it to.
Food Drive:
Don’t forget to bring
any canned food for the Maltby Food
Bank and Maltby Women’s shelter to a
meeting or at Luke’s shop.
Special Persons: If you know anyone
who is trying to raise money to attend
a once in a lifetime event or someone
has been injured and not able to help
themselves these persons may qualify
for help from our region. Please let
Angie know if you know of someone
who needs our help.
it is a great location, closer to I-5
than Alfy’s but just to be safe, we are
looking for alternative locations. Last
meeting F5 was suggested, however
after Tom from Around the Sound
discussed it with them, it is a no.
Razzies in Greenwood is available and
no minimum. Romeos in Greenwood
was also suggested – Angie will look
into that one for information at next
meeting.
•
Bubba was going to be
checking into Fircrest
•
Angie suggested the Elk’s
club. If there is a member of an Elk’s
club within the Region and if they are
willing to ask about holding our region
meetings there, that may work as well.
•
Nominations – After reading
an email from a member stating the
entire region board was quitting, Angie
was able to re-organize her work which
will enable her to continue on as region
director, if she is nominated again this
year. She would like it known to anyone
who feels that she and the region
board were quitting, that that is not
the case. Every year the positions are
open. Those who are in the positions
currently were nominated at one time,
re-nominated and accepted again by
those currently in their positions and
at any time nominations are open if
anyone is wanting or willing to step up
it is welcomed. Though nothing was
directly indicated or said, she wants
the delegation to understand that she
wasn’t quitting but that with her work
and home life so demanding of her
energy that she didn’t feel she could
give this position the desired attention
it needs. She felt that someone else
may be able to step up into the position
and be able to do a better job. To her
knowledge, at no time did anyone
actually state that she wasn’t doing her
job, just her feeling on how she thought
she was under performing due to her
busy schedule. Getting new people
into these positions is sometimes a
good thing. Fresh ‘blood’ can also
bring new perspectives to old ideas.
That being said, if anyone is wanting
or willing to step up to any position
within the region, nominations will start
in September with voting being at the
November meeting.
•
Tom from Around the Sound
brought up that DNR is no longer
letting volunteers use the equipment
unless they are ‘certified’. However,
after discussion, DNR does not have
an idea of what ‘certified’ means for
them and until they determine that,
there is nothing that PNW is able to do
to have volunteers become certified.
•
Arlene Brooks discussed that
Carol Jensen – IAD, has recently been
‘diagnosed’ for lack of a better word,
with fractures in both hips and in her
back. She is trying to manager her
pain with medication and rest. Angie
will have Sunshine send a get well
soon card for her. Please keep her in
your thoughts

Well, we had our third month at
Buca di Beppo in Lynnwood. Tonight
we were able to sit in the Sinatra
Room. Bigger space, no squeezing
and no creepy Pope staring at you.
It worked out well. However, after
tonight’s meeting Angie found out that
she can’t guarantee that room either.
We do have it ‘reserved’ for September
and October meeting. They still will
put us back there if available however
we cannot ‘reserve’ that room as it is
a minimum of $1,000 in food! Soooo,

get more campground stuff done. Hosting
is going well.
Elbe: Work party went well. Worked mainly
on easywild, revamped a hill climb and a
rock crawl. Equipment and trailer are both
at the tree cooler now. We will get stickers
of clubs that donated on the trailer soon.
Tahuya: Dry and dusty. Yellow Jacket
Hill has some new rock on it so is getting
harder again.
Land Matters: Cards up here for the
sustainable roads meetings, we need to
be proactive about keeping the important
roads open. If you can’t make it to the
meetings go online to the blog and keep
up with what is going on. Forest service
was impressed with the turnout, thanks
to everyone who went. Evans Creek is
applying for an extension for funding
because what we have runs out this year.
Mark from DNR is retiring at the end of
August. Rim Rock is off limits right now
for the most part. The Titan RD is closed
to public because of fire fighters using that
airport. You can still access through Clear
Lake RD. It is pretty smoky. No camp fires
allowed in Naches; propane is okay, but no
open flakes from wood or charcoal.
ORV Watch: No report
Letter Writing: No report
Way & Means: No report
Membership: No report
Public Relations: OSP will be a good PR
opportunity. Going to try to keep the fb page
updated.
Future 4-Wheelers: Convention went
great, good turnout and lots of fun. Great
weather. Future 4 wheelers did a great
job of putting convention together and
hosting it, everything went smooth. Nothing
negative heard about it so far. Everyone
worked very hard. Thanks everyone who
pitched in and helped out. Going to try
to figure out a bank account for future 4
wheelers to have to place all convention
money in, rather than just holding it in
the comp committee account. It will be
brought up at fall delegates and hopefully
decided. There are about 2200 pictures
from convention on Jim Mueller’s page
<mules.smugmug.com>.
Competition: There was a great turnout
to support Cadillac Ranch’s hearing. There
were 3 younger jeepers that stood up to the
6
whole crowd and told them why it should
stay open. There were also quite a few that
were there and were totally against it. We
will know more answers soon. One of the
things that will probably be taken away is
camping. Towards the end of the hearing
it was more in Cadillac Ranch’s favor.
Again thank you Brody for convention, it
was great. Region 2 men’s relay did great,
women brought home a trophy. Great
tracks. Drags were a little slow but rest
was awesome. Fastest barrel time was
a low 17. Overboard Race is Labor Day
weekend and Doo Wop’s is September
28/29. Got some old drag lights that will
hopefully be repaired and used. Jeepers
will be hosting the ob course at Prison
Break which is 13/14 of Sept. Thousands of
people. Thanks for everyone who came out
to Mud Daubers, it was great. Brand new
track, very cool, long tracks, and really fun.
Two new comp numbers were given out for
racers at convention. One jeeper hadn’t
been out in over 10 years and whipped out
a 19 sec barrel.
Old Business: Fun run Saturday August
17th at Evans Creek.
New business: Jim Putman is getting
permits for Region 2 to host a fun run over
Naches next year. A board for the run will
be put together. Outcast 4x4 will be taking
a gate and donating costs for insurance.
We are currently discussing details. OSP
3rd weekend in Sept. If you can make it,
please do. Full hookups are $40 for the
weekend, dry camping is $25 for weekend.
Kenanna RV park - All pull through sights,
fire pits at each site, meeting hall, cabins
there you can reserve if you don’t have stuff
to camp. Someone from Webfooters will be
there with embroidery equipment and will
be able to put your logo on blankets, shirts,
hats, etc right then and there. Small setup
fee for 6 items or less, if 6+ items then no
setup fee. Can do a wide range of sizes.
Email address if you want to send her your
logo ahead of time is wildwagdesigns@gm
ail.com. You can also bring your own stuff
to do it on. Pickup a Mountain is the same
weekend.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm

Tr ai l Ja mb o r e e 2 0 1 3
July 10-14, 2013 found many of us at Jim Sprick Park in Naches as we prepared to have fun at Trail Jamboree. Hosts were already there pre-running the trails
and getting the camp ready for the masses. As participants and hosts went through tech they were given a “Spill Kit” to keep in their 4x4. These kits contain the
necessary items in case of a fluid spill while on the trail. The PNW4WDA strives to leave the land in the same or better condition than we found it and these kits
are just one small way of achieving that goal. On Wednesday evening participants were able to sign up for their selected trail on Thursday. Sid assisted everyone
in how the process would work each evening over the next several days.
The trails were in great shape and due to the recent snow melt the trails were not dusty nor were they muddy, it was just the right combination. On Thursday Dan
& I signed up to run the Historic Naches Trail from East to West. All the years I have been running in the area I had never walked down to The Naches Cliff.
This is the area where in 1853, 53 wagons were lowered down a 1000 foot cliff one by one, thanks dad for showing all of us another piece a history. At lunchtime
we were treated to hamburgers w/grilled onions, baked beans, salad and more out on the trail. Several of the Thunder Trucks had gone ahead to prepare a
wonderful lunch for us. They had so much food they also hosted lunch for the Go 4 A Goodtime Group. When we returned to camp we were served lasagna,
salad & bread hosted by Rairdon Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Kirkland.
Friday proved to be a really interesting day… we like to call it “Cow Appreciation Day”. As we were going up the logging road towards the trail head we passed
a cow standing by a tree. I looked at Dan and said “I think that cows head was stuck in the tree”, he looked at me like I was crazy and a little further up the road
when we stopped at the trail head the jeep in front of us was having the same conversation. Then a third 4x4 pulled up and the driver said “I swear that cow has
been in the same place for the last three days”. It was then we decided we should go back and investigate. Sure enough the cow had its head stuck between two
trees and looked as if she had been there for a while. The first thought was to hold a strap under her chin and try and get her to lift it out, she was having no part
of that so onto plan 2 we went.
Someone shimmied up the tree and hooked a strap and then winch up and we tried to pull just enough to give her room to get out, that failed so Mark and Kelly
from Daystar as well as another person pulled around to the other tree and hooked up two straps on that one. Once the straps were about 12 feet in the air they
slowly pulled in the cable giving just enough room for the cow to get her head out. Not only did we save the cow but the trees too! After that we proceeded to run
Manastash, Funny Rocks and Moon Rocks. We had a really good time and returned to camp in time to help get dinner served which by the way was Beef Brisket
and Beer hosted by Daystar (Ironic don’t you think).
The last day of trail running we ran with the Shindig Wheelers to Glass Creek. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. It really makes you appreciate the Pacific
NW and all it has to offer. Saturday night we were treated to a Mexican Fiesta hosted by Northridge 4x4 followed by prizes and the dance. I can honestly say the
dance floor was full clear through the many “last songs” that Jay played for us. The next morning we were served pancake breakfast by the Wandering Willys.
I’m sure from all reports everyone had as much fun with their hosts on the trails as we did.
A special thank you to Sid and Kelda Hagemeier for co-chairing Jamboree. They put in many, many hours putting together the event for everyone. Our major
sponsors really did a great job, they were; Rairdon Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Kirkland- Thursday night dinner, Daystar Products- Friday night dinner, Northridge 4x4Saturday night dinner and 4 Wheel Parts our campground sponsor. We really appreciate everything they do for the event and the Association. The door prizes
and raffle prizes were plentiful and a special thanks to everyone who donated items. Listed below are the Trail Hosts with their sponsors as well as some of the
other committees;
Wandering Willys- ARB / Cascade 4x4’s- 4 Wheel Parts / White Knuckle 4x4’s- White Knuckle Swap Meet / Going 4 A Good Time- Rairdon Jeep
Shindig Wheelers- Spanaway Moonshiners Jeep Club / Yakima Ridgerunners- Build It Off-Road / Eldorado Dust Devils- Trail Ready / Desert Rats- Olympic 4x4
Thunder Trucks- self sponsored / Hombres- Flex A Light / Gate, Tech & Staging- Lake Tapps Turtles / Region 4- Kids Games / Registration- Teresa Kosel
Campground- Headed up by Bonnie & Jerry Nettnin and crew / Bathrooms- Lynn & JoAnn Hansen / Booth Help- Doris, Cliff, Diana, Sande, Kelda, Angie and
others / DJ- Jay with JBL Productions / Ice Cream Social- Solar Blasters/Dan & Tammy Rheaume
There are so many others I’m sure I missed but thank you so much to everyone who did their part to make the event successful.
Make sure you mark your calendar for July 9-13, 2014 when the Pacific NW 4 Wheel Drive Association will host the 25th Trail Jamboree.
Until then Happy Trails,
Angie Marek

be a member of the committee. If no one

Rattlesnake Trail Celebration Work
Party: Ron mentioned that the week before
a few people went to haul many items to
the area. Merrick arrived with his personal
tractor which saved a ton of work. Chad
Atkins did work of many volunteers with his
equipment. Jeff Leisy (USFS) continues to
seek info about Washington trails needs.
The actual work party was long days and
hard work but they got it done. 620 man
hours were logged. Irene said that the work
is to national trail standards. Thanks to all!

were nominated. More nominations &
voting next month. Trophy will be presented
at PUAM
Data Counter: Ron R (JN) spoke about a
data counter that he has been looking into
that is currently being used in several areas.
It could be in our favor or not depending on
data usage. After some good discussion, it
was decided that each delegate take back
to their club for discussion as well as to Fall
Delegates Meeting in September.
Washington State Trails Caucus:
September 13th in Wenatchee. For more
info, contact Earl or go on line to register.
Doug mentioned that is a great idea to
attend & represent the 4WD community
Fall Delegates Meeting will be held at the
Cowlitz PUD Auditorium. See the Website
or TriPower for more info.
Trailer: Ron R borrowed a trailer from
Heverlo’s Auctions. It was very helpful.
When he returned it, he was asked if he
wished to purchase it. It needs some work
but Ron figured that those items could be
donated. Ron looked into tab, insurance
issues & that could be covered via the
Association. Motion made by Frank R
(SW) 2nd by Charlotte M (CBSC); motion
passed.
Swap meet: Ron R (JN) presented the
idea of hosting a Region swap meet;

Annual Season Opening 4W613 Work Party
Report and photo by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures
On the morning of Saturday June 29th, 2013 Eastern Washington Adventures members met up at the Ahtanum Winter Recreation Area for the EWA Annual
4W613 Season Opening Work Party.
This year we were invited to help the Jeeping Nomads and the Department of Natural Resources clean up the Nasty Flats area so we started the day off there.
See that report at: Jeeping Nomads Nasty Flats Clean Up – June 29 2013
We left the Jeeping Nomads work party and headed down Doe Pocket toward Nasty Creek Corrals. We stopped for a lunch break in the sun along the way.
Once down on Nasty Creek Road, we headed up toward Louie Way Gap. It started raining very hard as we climbed. We stopped at the Strobach 4×4 Trailhead to
regroup. We took a short break since it stopped raining. We continued to Louie Way Gap and turned up 4W613 at 4W608.
We ran 4W613 up to the Louie Way View Point and stopped for the view of the Rimrock Area. We headed on up 4W613 removing blow down trees along the way.
The drive up to the Strobach 4×4 Trail was nice other than Mudslinder ripped off his driver’s mirror on a tree and then Don’s CJ5 was having some fuel issues
being off camber.
At the Strobach 4×4 Trail we regrouped and tightened up some bolts on the trail signs. It was getting late so we headed down the Strobach 4×4 Trail cutting down
fall as we went. Lucky for us the trail did not have many trees down across the trail because the rain started up again. As we headed down the mountain toward
Nasty Creek Corrals, the rain came down harder than ever filling up my JK floors. We pulled the plugs twice before getting to the bottom.
Down at Nasty Creek Corrals the rain had stopped. We headed up the Ahtanum North Fork back to our camp at the Ahtanum Winter Recreation Trailhead for
dinner around the campfire. This was a great fun day event with the rain.
On Sunday most packed up for home. Mudslinger and I took the kids for a drive up to Blue Slide Lookout doing a little trail maintenance and clean up along the
way. We were back at camp by 5 PM to pack up for home. Another fun day at the Ahtanum State Forest.
NOTE: If you would like to volunteer with us, please visit the Eastern Washington Adventures web site under: Public Lands Volunteer Opportunities

This area of the trail behind Guido was real fun with the off

PNW4WDA - Region 6 has a big write up about “Cline Buttes” in Petersen’s offroad
and I would like the folks to know it takes time and effort instead of wishes (PNW’s
Clubs working to keep access) unlike their report seems to say.
This picture is a shot of the underbelly of a 4x4 rig enjoying the benefits of
working with the agencies to keep access for our rigs and our families. Many
PNW clubs and individuals lobbied the agency at Prineville to keep access at
Cline Buttes Recreational Area. This ultimate adventure started for us in the
late 70’s.
Cline Butte Recreational Area an ongoing project for the
PNW since the late 1970’s Petersen’s offroad magazine.
John Pyland and Randy Drake working with the Prineville
BLM in the early 2000’s for the rock pile called Cline Buttes.
Cline Buttes Deschutes County 4 Wheelers working
to save access since the late 1970’s.
Larry and Venus VanZyl and their new Rubicon Unlimited spent
many hours working for and maintaining access.
2007 Deschutes County 4 Wheelers and friends working with
the BLM out of Prineville looking for trails at Cline Buttes.
We lost access to the vista from the main butte at Cline Buttes
but we did make some Qnarly trails...Cline Buttes
