Riunione degli Attori Sociali Per un Ambiente DURAturo Encounter of key people for a lasting environment Presented at the Agenda 21 Ministry of the Environment call for bids for financing in 2002 and approved and co-financed by the Ministry in 2004 Based on a public agreement signed by 10 municipalities of the province of Lodi. The leading role of the project is given to the municipality of S.Angelo Lodigiano The 18 month project began in October 2004 and will finish in April 2006. The 10 municipalities involved Local Agenda 21 Progetto R.A.S.P.A.DURA. The 18 month project began in October 2004 and will finish in April 2006. 2006 It will take form in a series of actions requiring the cooperation of all the organizations involved in the project The main goals Implement a process of Local Agenda 21 in the 10 municipalities Encourage local sustainable development politicies Preserve and enhance local environmental resources Increase community awareness of the critical and potential aspects of the local environment Web page Ag21L Province of Lodi Web page Ag21L Province of Lodi Agenda 21 The name Agenda 21 derives from the document known as “United Nations Action Plan for sustainable development and environmental protection in the XXI century”, developed during the Conference of Rio de Janeiro in 1992 Agenda because it reminds our commitments for the future; 21 because our future is the 21st century. Agenda 21 The document, signed by over 170 States, has the following premise: “human societies cannot follow the path they have followed till now, increasing the economic gap among nations and among population within the same nation, increasing poverty, famine, deseases and analphabetism and causing continuous deterioration of ecosystems from which life on earth depends” invites all communities to implement Local Agenda 21 in order to: - clearly evidence local environmental conditions; - identify, in a shared vision, resolutions for the modern problems of the environment. Sustainable development “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Brundtland Report, 1987 World Commission on Environment and Development) Sustainable development is a dinamic concept that considers three dimensions: environmental, social and economic.
