Uncork Red Wine’s Health Benefits - Without Drinking Wine
(NAPSI)-Researchers
published in Life Sciences
say
resveratrol-an
antioxidant that’s found
naturally in red wine-has the
potential to extend life by
reducing
free
radical
damage. Now sip on this-it
takes nearly 200 glasses of
wine a day to get the daily
recommended dose to see
the benefits of this powerful
supplement, according to
research
by
German
scientist Ulrik Stervbo.
To help, there’s now a
resveratrol ingredient for
food, beverages and dietary
supplements
that
has
demonstrated cardiovascular
health benefits in humans in
clinical studies.
“These study results are
exciting because they are
among the first data of a
resveratrol ingredient to
show
potential
cardiovascular
health
benefits in humans,” said
Dr. Narelle Berry, Ph.D., a
study investigator.
This
resveratrol
ingredient is resVida®. It’s
a 99 percent pure transresveratrol,
free
of
pesticides and herbicides,
and it meets the highest
safety standards in the
industry. The antioxidant
has also been shown to
mimic the effects of calorie
restriction, which is the only
way so far demonstrated to
extend
life,
maintain
cognitive function, improve
balance,
sensory-motor
coordination and endurance,
and have anti-inflammatory
effects.
Adds Dr. Berry, “A
previous study showed the
proven
absorption
of
resVida® in humans, a
little- known but important
factor that separates it from
other
resveratrol
ingredients.”
What’s more, resVida®
comes
from
DSM
Nutritional Products, a
company with long-standing
safety records, a highquality
guarantee
and
trusted
manufacturing
processes. They believe
science should back up
products and strive to
support a healthier, more
sustainable
and
more
enjoyable way of life.
Among
numerous
products, you can find
resVida®
in
the
WineTime™ Bar, a 190calorie,
rich,
dark
chocolate−flavored nutrition
bar containing as much
resveratrol as 50 glasses of
red wine. This high-fiber
bar produced by ResVez
packs a healthy punch with
dates, almonds and seven
extra
“superfruits”cranberry,
noni,
pomegranate, goji berry,
acai,
mangosteen
and
blueberry. Additionally, the
first resVida® softgel, 50
mg ResForte, is available
from Bricker Labs and the
first resVida® beverage is
available from Anti-Ageing
Products.

Choose the Right Restaurant for Your Next Party
Choose the Right Restaurant
for Your Next Party. Hosting a
party can be a wonderful
opportunity to share a few
laughs and good times with
family and friends. However,
hosting duties come with an
array of responsibilities, often
making the day of the party a
hectic one for even the best of
hosts.
Avoiding such
responsibilities is one popular
reason for choosing a
restaurant to host your next
party. Restaurants take care of
the cleaning and preparation,
allowing hosts to enjoy the
party as much as their guests.
Those thinking of using a
restaurant to host their next
party should consider the
following tips.
• Comparison shop. While
you might have a favorite
restaurant in mind, it pays to
comparison shop when
looking for a restaurant to host
your next party. Prices can
vary greatly when it comes to
private parties, and some
might not even be capable of
accommodating larger parties.
To be certain you’re getting
the best deal, use the time you
have to comparison shop.
• Choose a central location.
When hosting a party at home,
there’s always the potential to
allow guests to stay overnight
should the party run late.
However, when having a
private party at a restaurant,
all guests will eventually be
driving home. To make it easy
on everyone, choose a
centrally located restaurant
that’s within a short driving
distance for most. If possible,
choose a restaurant that’s near
public transportation as well.
This can provide a safe
fallback option should a guest
have too much to drink and
not be able to drive home.
• Negotiate with the
restaurant manager. The
restaurant manager should be
open to negotiation regarding
the menu, both food and
beverages. Flexibility is a
must, as your guests will no
doubt have varying diets. Be
sure to ask about the
availability of vegetarian
meals and other diet-specific
foods that guests with health
ailments might need.
Restaurants might not be as
flexible for larger parties, but
smaller parties should expect
flexibility with respect to the
menu.
• Get it in writing if
possible. For especially large
parties, it’s ideal to get a
contract in writing for the
services the restaurant will
provide and the cost of those
services. You’ll likely need to
put down a deposit in advance
of the party, so that can be a
great time to have a contract
drawn up as well.
• Arrive early. Hosts should
arrive at the restaurant early to
ensure that everything is going
smoothly. The host should
always arrive before the guests
and put up decorations if
that’s part of the party.
• Send out invitations with
specific directions. Whether
it’s an e-vite sent through email or a paper invitation sent
through snail mail, invitations
should include specific
directions to the restaurant.
The directions should include
routes with major highways
and the restaurant’s address.
Providing the restaurant’s
address allows guests to seek
other directions via online
mapping sites or GPS if they
so choose.

Another Myth Exploded: Red Wines Don’t Go Best With All Cheeses
(NAPSI)-Of all the myths
passed down through history-Nero fiddled while Rome
burned, Elvis is still alive--the
one that’s been among the
toughest to dispel concerns
neither an emperor nor a king.
Specifically, it’s that all
cheeses are best served with
red wine.
Well, for the last time,
that couldn’t be farther from
the truth.
In fact, when it comes to
red wine vs. white wine--and
pay attention if you’re
planning your next cheese
plate for entertaining anytime
soon--the numbers tell the
story. “White wine pairs with
the widest variety of cheeses,”
declares wine expert Belinda
Chang.
That’s because the whole
point of the pairing is to
enhance your perception of
the cheese. But red wines
typically have higher alcohol
contents and stronger oaks
than white wines, which
means that while powerful
cheeses can stand up to reds-Fontina, for example, works
with a Merlot--many more
others wind up seeing some or
all of their subtleties
overridden. (Not to mention
sometimes leaving you with a
soapy taste in your mouth.)
Of course, if all this has
you a bit befuddled and you’re
just looking for a vintage with
a “food-friendly” rep, you can
do what one of the critics’
favorite Manhattan restaurants
has done: make wines from
the Alsace region in France its
go-to choice for cheese
courses. “We love to serve
crisp whites like Alsace’s
nutty Pinot Gris with
cheddars,
and
floral
Gewurztraminer with blue
cheese,” says Chang, the wine
director at The Modern, which
draws a big arts crowd from
being located at the Museum
of Modern Art. “Overall,
Alsace produces dry white
wines that come off zesty and
refreshing.”
In keeping with that
theory, you might want to try
these pairings:
Alsace Riesling with goat
and feta cheeses. The dry and
fresh wine, with citrus notes,
works best with tangy
cheeses.
Alsace Pinot Blanc with
Swiss and Gouda cheeses.
This one’s for all you fondue
fans out there. These mild
cheeses’ light, nutty flavor
complements the wine’s fruity
apple and pear notes.
Alsace Pinot Gris with
Parmesan, cheddar, Manchego
and Comté cheeses. This
match-up truly disproves the
red wine myth. The fullbodied, rich wine with smoky
notes brings out all the
subtleties of opulent hard
cheeses.
Alsace Gewurztraminer
with Muenster and creamy
blue cheeses. Ripe cheeses
need their pungent flavors
balanced with a powerful and
spicy wine like this one.
Finally, when preparing a
cheese plate, remember to:
• Always include a variety
of cheese consistencies (i.e.,
soft and hard) to keep things
interesting.
• Serve cheese at room
temperature and white wines
at 50 degrees. If either are too
cold, its aroma and flavor are
masked.

I’ll Toast To That...
The toast has become
a popular feature of
celebrations across the
country. Though most
commonly
associated
with weddings, toasts are
now routinely made at
less formal gatherings as
well. But when and
where did the toast start?
While it is difficult to
pinpoint exactly who
initiated the first toast,
one theory suggests this
popular, and often funny,
tradition dates back to
the ancient Greeks in the
6th century B.C. At the
time, Greeks would
commonly spike the
drinks of their enemies
with poison. Party guests
were
understandably
leery
of
accepting
beverages, usually wine
poured from a common
jug. So to put all the
guests at ease, the Greek
toast tradition actually
called for the host to
drink from his glass first
to assure his guest that it
was
not
poisoned.
Another common feature
of toasts today is the
clinking of the glasses,
which also might have its
origins in ancient times,
when guests were said to
clink their glasses as a
means of warding off
evil spirits.
