KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD BAND & JONNY LANG ~ Friday,
June 19 ~ $49 in advance / $55 day of concert ~ Utter the phrase "young blues
rock guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern
musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be
Kenny Wayne Shepherd. The Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has sold millions of albums while throwing singles into the Top 10, shining a light on the rich
blues of the past and forging ahead with his own modern twist on a classic sound he
has embodied since his teens. In a 20-year recording career that began when he was
just 16, Shepherd has established himself as an immensely popular recording artist,
a consistently in-demand live act and an influential force in a worldwide resurgence of
interest in the blues. At 16 years old, he signed his first record deal and burst onto
the national scene with the release of his 1995 debut album Ledbetter Heights, which
produced the radio hits "Deja Voodoo," "Born with a Broken Heart" and "Shame,
Shame, Shame." His relentless touring and success on rock radio helped to drive the
album to Platinum sales status. His 1998 sophomore effort Trouble Is... also went
Platinum, yielding such radio hits as "Blue on Black," "True Lies" and "Somehow,
Somewhere, Someway." 1999's Live On spawned the radio hits "In 2 Deep",
"Shotgun Blues" and "Last Goodbye." 2004's The Place You're In was a blistering
rock record and was followed up by 2007's ambitious 10 Days Out: Blues from the
Backroads, for which Shepherd and his band traveled throughout the American South
to record with such vintage blues greats as B.B. King, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown,
Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins and David "Honeyboy" Edwards on their home turf.
2010 saw the release of Shepherd's long-awaited first live album, Live! In Chicago,
recorded at Chicago's House of Blues during the all-star Legends tour and featuring
guest appearances by such blues legends as Hubert Sumlin and Willie "Big Eyes"
Smith. The live disc debuted at #1 on Billboard's Blues chart, as did 2011's How I Go.
In 2013, Shepherd further expanded his musical horizons by teaming with veteran
rockers Stephen Stills and Barry Goldberg to form THE RIDES, whose first album
Can't Get Enough helped to expand Shepherd's audience as well as his musical resume. 2014 saw the release of Goin' Home, Shepherd's sixth # 1 debut on the
Billboard Blues charts. Goin' Home features several talented friends who shared
Shepherd's enthusiasm for the project's back-to-basics ethos, including fellow guitar
icons Joe Walsh, Warren Haynes, Keb' Mo' and Robert Randolph, longtime friend
Ringo Starr, Fabulous Thunderbirds frontman Kim Wilson, and the Rebirth Brass
Band. Find more info at: kennywayneshepherd.net
Sixteen years ago, at the age of 16, Jonny Lang found incredible success with the
release of his major label debut album Lie To Me. Fame does not seem to have
impacted him from being the same country farm boy from Fargo, ND who got his start
in the local clubs of Minneapolis. He survived the passage of youth to adulthood, fell
in love, began a family, and in the process passed through the life lessons we all
endure. He has a keen sense of what he aims to achieve creatively, what music
means to him. For Lang, with the release of Fight For My Soul, he is entering a chapter wherein he has found his true voice. Lang has been working on the release for
three years with Producer Tommy Sims, who co-wrote Eric Clapton's Grammy
winning "Change the World." The duo collaborated on the project from the ground up.
"I'm really happy with the body of work we have for this one.” After Lang released his
Grammy winning Turn Around in 2007, he made the decision to forego the major
label route and became an independent artist. The first result was 2009's Live At the
Ryman, but Fight For My Soul, by its nature, is his first fully realized artistic achievement through his own label SayRai Music, featuring his own touring band: drummer
Barry Alexander, bassist James Anton, rhythm guitarist Akil Thompson, keyboardist
Dwan Hill and background vocalist Missi Hale. "They're all amazing musicians and
we've grown together musically and personally by playing hundreds of live shows.
This served us well in the making of Fight For My Soul. Because of them, I have
grown musically in ways I never thought I could." The path Lang has been on has
brought him the opportunity to interact with some of the most respected legends in
music. On the way up, he shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, B.B. King,
Aerosmith, Sting, and Buddy Guy, who he continues to tour with today. One of my

ANI DIFRANCO ~ Friday, June 20 ~ $34 in advance / $40 day of con-
cert ~ As a singer, songwriter, activist and independent entrepreneur, Ani DiFranco
has been setting her own pace - and encouraging countless admirers to do the same
- for more than 20 years. Her music has grown far beyond her acoustic solo roots in
cozy venues to embrace jazz, soul, electronica and even more distant sounds. All of
which are featured in DiFranco’s new Righteous Babe release Allergic To Water
where she also blends abstract imagery and deceptively understated melodies with
personal reflections on her life in New Orleans where she is now raising her two
children with her partner, producer Mike Napolitano. “It’s such a humbling and grueling thing to raise children,” DiFranco said. “And that makes playing music more
precious and makes me more grateful. It’s a real balancing act, but it also has a
balancing effect.” DiFranco adds that becoming a mother has brought her closer to
listeners who have followed her music since she began performing in New York City
during the early 1990s. But widespread attention never prevented her from holding
on to her integrity and independence. A strong belief in human rights has run
throughout her work, including when she played at numerous benefit concerts
around the world. At a time when record labels still held an oversized influence,
DiFranco stood ahead of the curve in launching her own Righteous Babe Records.
The company has released more than twenty of her albums to date, ranging from the
popular two-disc live album, Living In Clip (1997) to the expansive To The
Teeth (1999) which included such guests as legendary R&B saxophonist Maceo
Parker and Prince. Journalist Sylvie Simmons wrote in the British music magazine
MOJO in 1998, “Even if her overt politicism and her 200-shows-per-year tours with
an acoustic guitar place her in the Woody Guthrie tradition, her music - which has
boldly plundered funk or punk, hip hop, rock - doesn’t.” In 2013, she returned to the
Winnipeg Folk Festival, where she received their prestigious Artistic Achievement
award, coupled with her first ever honorary doctorate, which was given to her by the
University of Winnipeg. For more info, go to www.anidifranco.com. Peter Mulvey
opens the show. Info at www.petermulvey.com. Sponsored by Emergen-C, Gardein

MIKE GORDON ~ Friday, June 26 ~ $ 34 in advance / $40 day of
concert ~ Phish bassist Mike Gordon returns to the road on the heels of 2014's
Overstep, his fourth studio album. The band's new repertoire will be augmented by
secret synesthetic mad scientist gadgetry on and around the stage. Most artists have
a fixed ritual or routine that they rely on to inspire their efforts from concept to fruition.
Gordon tends to establish general goals, and then eschew routines for creative
experiments. One of his goals for his latest album was to trust himself to relinquish
control, which he accomplished by sharing songwriting duties and by handing over
the producing reins for the first time in his solo career to Paul Q. Kolderie
(Radiohead, Uncle Tupelo, Pixies). The result is a diverse but tightly knit family of
sturdy rock numbers that manages to sound grounded but sophisticated at the same
time, and raw but carefully considered. Gordon draws inspiration from an astonishing
variety of sources, from the natural world to the emotional world to his often
persistent visions. Like Gordon himself, the album is full of contradictions, juxtapositions, and surprises - which is exactly what his fans expect. More info at
http://mike-gordon.com/. The show will feature two sets with no opening act.

THE WOOD BROTHERS with special guests Tall Heights ~
Thursday, July 9 ~ $35 in advance / $40 day of concert ~ Since 2006, Chris
and Oliver Wood have released three studio albums of Americana as The Wood
Brothers. Chris is a founding member of jazz trio Medeski Martin & Wood, and Oliver
spent years as blues great Tinsley Ellis’s guitarist. After pursuing separate musical
careers for some 15 years, the brothers performed together at a show in North Carolina and decided they needed to play together. A demo landed them a record deal with
Blue Note, who released Ways Not To Lose in 2006. Follow-up Loaded came in
2008; after covers EP Up Above My Head. The next year, the band moved to Zac
Brown’s Southern Ground Artists for Smoke Ring Halo and then 2012’s Live, Volume
One: Sky High and Live, Volume Two: Nail and Tooth. From early in their childhood
in Boulder, CO., Chris and Oliver were steeped in American roots music. The brothers bonded over bluesmen like Jimmy Reed and Lightnin’ Hopkins, but their paths,
musical and otherwise, would diverge. Oliver moved to Atlanta, where he played
guitar in cover bands before earning a spot in Tinsley Ellis’s touring act. At Ellis’s
behest, Oliver began to sing and then founded King Johnson, a hard-touring group
that would release six albums of blues-inflected R&B, funk and country over the next
12 years. Chris, meanwhile, studied jazz bass at the New England Conservatory of
Music, moved to New York City and in the early ‘90s formed Medeski Martin & Wood,
which over the next two decades would become a cornerstone of contemporary jazz
and abstract music. The experience of recording their latest album, The Muse,
marked a deeper level of collaboration for The Wood Brothers, a newfound fraternal
synchronicity. The components are similar: the dialed-in vocal harmonies, Oliver’s
gritty acoustic guitar, Chris’s virtuosic upright bass, the warrior poet lyrics. But here
there’s a glue holding it all together. The cohesion comes from the brothers having
spent the last two years on the road with new full-time member Jano Rix, a drummer
and ace-in-the-hole multi-instrumentalist, whereas they relied on session musicianfriends to fill out previous albums. Jano’s additional harmonies give credence to the
old trope that while two family members often harmonize preternaturally, it takes a
third, non-related singer for the sound to really shine. And then there’s Jano’s work
on his patented percussion instrument, the “shuitar,” an acoustic guitar rigged up with
tuna cans and other noisemakers, which, in his hands, becomes a veritable drum kit.
On The Muse, the album shuffles between bluesy, classic country and swampy funk,
mining the brothers’ timeless influences (Robert Johnson, Willie Nelson, Charles
Mingus) while sounding fresh enough to win over fans of today’s mainstream rootsmusic acts (The Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons). More info: www.thewoodbros.com
Special Guests: Tall Heights. "Folk" has become a funny label for Tall Heights. It felt
right when they went all-in on a career in music, street performing over 100 days in
six months to fund their first recordings. It felt right when their plucky single, "To Be
Young," worked its way into the hearts of their hometown, Boston MA, and spread to
the nation on Pandora and Spotify. It felt right when they played 300+ shows in '13
and '14 all across the United States. However, with the Spring '15 release of live
singles "Spirit Cold" and "Horse to Water," Tall Heights stays true to their harmony,
cello and guitar laden souls, while creating something brand new. Tim Harrington and
Paul Wright got their start playing for spare change in Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace. In a few short years since, Tall Heights has headlined venues across the
country and toured down to Austin, TX to showcase at South By Southwest Music
Festival. Tall Heights released their first EP, Rafters, in September 2011. With their
sophomore release, The Running of the Bulls EP (October, 2012), Tall Heights
responded to their fans’ growing hunger to download and relive the enchanting,
bottomless ambiance of their live performance. For the duo’s debut full-length effort,
Man of Stone (May 2013), Tall Heights dug deeper into the vast world they’ve meticulously built for two. Their latest releases further establish Tall Heights as an ever
stronger force on this robust folk scene amongst the nation’s most esteemed new
artists. More info: www.tallheights.com Sponsored by Guayaki Yerba Mate,

Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo ~ Friday, July 10 ~ $49 in advance /
$55 day of concert ~ She sings the songs, and he plays them. Along the way, the
union of Pat Benatar and Neil “Spyder” Giraldo has become one of the most successful in music history, and their legacy continues to be celebrated across the globe. The
couple is kicking off their 35th Anniversary Tour. The rock duo’s exceptional journey
began with their debut album, In The Heat of The Night. They would soon grace the
cover of Rolling Stone, and make history with the hit single “You Better Run,” which
gave them the distinction of being the first female vocalist and the first guitar player
featured on MTV. In 1981, Giraldo began co-producing the pair’s recording sessions,
starting with Precious Time. By the end of 1982, they were married in a Hawaiian
ceremony. “Thirty-five years ago, "Heartbreaker" was the catalyst for it all,” says Pat
Benatar. "It’s hard to believe that so much time has passed. We’re excited to be
celebrating this personal and musical milestone. The tour should be an incredible,
shared experience with the audience.” "From the very beginning our chemistry was
undeniable," remarks Neil Giraldo. "This is the driving force behind everything we do.
After 35 years of playing together, we're looking forward to the summer leg of the tour
and the future, which will surely be adventurous." Benatar and Giraldo’s collection of
hits include “We Belong,” “Promises In The Dark,” “Hell Is For Children,” “Love Is A
Battlefield,” and “Heartbreaker.” The duo has scored two Multi-Platinum albums, five
Platinum albums, and three Gold albums during their storied career. Benatar, a fourtime Grammy Award winner, has three American Music Awards. Together, Benatar
and Giraldo have 19 Top 40 singles and multiple Top 10 singles. Neil Giraldo’s
impressive back catalog includes more than 100 songs written, produced, arranged
and recorded for Benatar along with hits he helped create for John Waite, Rick
Springfield, Kenny Loggins, Steve Forbert, The Del Lords, Beth Hart and countless
other artists. The renowned multi-instrumentalist has been featured in publications
such as Guitar World, Gold Mine and Guitar Aficionado as one of the most talented
rock musicians of all-time. In addition to this year’s concert tour, fans will also be able
to enjoy the couple’s newly-released CD/DVD package, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo:

CRB (as they are affectionately known by fans) made an immediate impact upon their
boldly unconventional debut in early 2011. They would play close to 50 shows over
nine weeks in California before ever leaving the Golden State. In fact, they’d wait until
2012 to truly introduce themselves nationally with the release of two sprawling studio
albums: Big Moon Ritual and The Magic Door, which showcase a freewheeling improvisational chemistry, but with songwriting depth to back it up. The band—
Robinson (Lead vocals, guitar), Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Adam Macdougall (keys,
vocals), Mark Dutton (bass, vocals) and Tony Leone (drums)—would further develop
their identity as a self-defined “farm to table psychedelic rock band” over a 118-show
stretch. Late 2013 saw the fruits of this labor forever captured by legendary tape
priestess, Betty Cantor-Jackson (Grateful Dead), on the eight-sided limited-edition
vinyl release Betty’s S.F. Blends Volume 1, which documented a glorious five night
run the previous December at San Francisco’s famed Great American Music
Hall. Only momentarily content with their auspicious rise, the Brotherhood
reconvened to record yet another set of ten songs that would become the 2014
release, Phosphorescent Harvest. Where Robinson had been the primary instigator
behind the 14 compositions that populated the band’s first two releases, this latest
effort documents his burgeoning songwriting partnership with Neal Casal. It also finds
The CRB refining its approach within the studio. The two previous recordings were for
all intents and purposes cut live and released as tracked. For Phosphorescent
Harvest, the band spent the better part of 2013 crafting a tried and true studio album.
For many artists this would imply intentional neutering in the pursuit of commercial
upside, but in Robinson and company's hands, it meant utilizing the studio to harness
their full sonic vision. Indeed, their expansive sense of space and texture has never
been so fully realized until now. Casal expands on the process: "The approach was to
get far out sonically, while retaining a certain focus on the central melody of each
song. Psychedelia, sonic density, and expanded arrangements were the order of the
day, but the songs are strong. This band is all about musical freedom. Boundary
dissolving is our ideal. Boundary dissolving and a good ole’ Saturday night boogie." In
an age when so many put their beliefs in trends, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood is
committed to something deeper. In Robinson’s words: "We don't make music that can
sell iPads. Our music will not sell you a Prius. I like that. Writing songs has always led
me to good things in my life. The songwriting saved me through the dark times, and
the songwriting makes it that much sweeter when it’s good. Real success can only
come in pursuit of an authentic sound. We’re all very committed to this music, beyond
money and egos. That’s a unique place to be." Two sets, no opening act. More Info:

DAVE MASON’S TRAFFIC JAM ~ Saturday, July 18 ~ $31 in
advance / $35 day of concert ~ Join Dave Mason for an evening of music history
as he retraces the earliest days of his career with Traffic and the works that launched
his successful solo career. The show is much more than a concert; it’s an extraordinary two act multi-media presentation full of stories, images and music from his years
with Traffic (Dear Mr. Fantasy, Feelin' Alright, You Can All Join In, Pearly Queen,
Medicated Goo and others), as well as the hits and important songs that formed his
solo career (Only You Know and I Know, We Just Disagree, World In Changes, All
Along The Watchtower and more). Dave Mason is a living rock legend. At age 18,
the Worcester England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris
Wood to form the legendary band Traffic, which had a profound effect on the genre of
rock and roll. While still a teen, Mason penned the Traffic hit “Feeling' Alright”. The
song became a global rock anthem and has been recorded by dozens of artists including Joe Cocker, who had a huge international hit with the song. It remains a highlight of Mason’s live shows today. After extensive touring with Traffic throughout the
UK and Europe, Mason headed for the USA to pursue a solo career. He struck international gold with his debut album Alone Together, which is considered a seminal
rock classic. It’s known for the hits “Only You Know And I Know”, “World In Changes”, “Shouldn’t Have Took More Than you Gave” and has sold millions of copies.
Five highly successful albums for the CBS/Sony label followed, four of which received gold album certification in the US. His next album Let It Flow sold millions of
copies and contains another major Mason classic "We Just Disagree." In addition to
performing to sold-out audiences and being a permanent staple in record collections
and hearts of fans around the world, Mason’s unique guitar work can be heard on
many landmark albums and songs such as the Rolling Stones' Beggar’s Banquet,
George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, Paul McCartney's Listen To What The Man
Said and Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland. Hendrix’s major rock standard “All Along
The Watchtower” features Dave playing the acoustic guitars before Hendrix’s soaring
entrance onto the track. The song is a big favorite of Dave's and he performs it in
nearly every one of his live shows. Dave Mason’s work and career remain linked with
numerous other members of rock and roll elite, including Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Graham Nash, Stephen
Stills, Rita Coolidge, Delaney & Bonnie, Leon Russell, Ron Wood, Jim Capaldi, Mama Cass Elliot and The Spencer Davis Group. His career spans several important
rock eras, and encompasses his work as a producer, performer, songwriter, and
consummate guitarist. In 2004, Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame for his work with the groundbreaking group Traffic. More info:

TOWER OF POWER ~ Thursday, July 30 ~ $38 in advance /
$45 day of concert ~ For well close to five decades, Tower of Power has
delivered the best in Rhythm and Blues music. Their first record, East Bay Grease,
helped to define the East Bay sound, and did well enough to warrant a recording
contract with Warner Brothers. Bump City, their 1972 debut for the label, was a hit on
both the Billboard 200 and the chart’s R&B Albums chart, and netted them the hits
“You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down To The Nightclub.” The decade of the 1970s
were a boom period for the group, who hit with radio classics like “So Very Hard To
Go” and “What Is Hip?” and the band has continued to tour and record over the years
with their latest project Hipper Than Hip being a live flash back to their 1974 tour. In
2008, Tower of Power celebrated their 40th anniversary at a very special reunion
show at the Fillmore in San Francisco. In addition to the ten current members of the
band, another 20 musicians and vocalists that at one time held a positon with the
band appeared with them. The show was filmed and issued as a DVD and has
appeared on PBS. Founding members are Emilio Castillo on tenor sax, Stephen
‘Doc” Kupka on baritone sax, Rocco Prestia on bass, and David Garibaldi on drums.
Castillo says, “I still love it as much as ever. We’re not a smooth jazz band, or a retro

band...we don’t follow trends, we just make our music exactly the way we want it to
be. We noticed years ago that when we did that, the fans liked it. We stay true to that,
and that makes it easy to go to work on a daily basis. Every time we go to play, we’re
playing music we love because we got to make it “our way.” The thrill of stepping on
stage has never gone away, because as Castillo says, he loves the attention. Brand
new lead singer, Ray Greene is bringing new excitement to the band. Castillo says
he’s a perfect fit. “It’s phenomenal. Most bands lose their singer, and it’s over. But,
we’ve changed singers and other players so many times, the fans actually get excited
about who’s next.” he said, as the band has had over forty members throughout their
history. With a new member comes a new attitude, and Emilio says it’s contagious.
“Everybody in the band is saying ‘Wow, what is happening?’ You get to an age where
we’re at and things can start to run down but it seems like for us that things are really
kicking into high gear.” And, that’s the way Tower of Power likes it! More info:

formidable acting and musical talents onstage and onscreen. As a character actor, he

campaigns. Over the past fifteen years, Wayne Catania has been the face and personality of the immortal Jake Blues, touring the continental US and Canada.
Kieron Lafferty (Elwood Blues) Originally from Toronto, Kieron was influenced by
the great acts that played at his father’s nightclub, The Electric Circus. Legends like
Sam & Dave, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Doors were the wellspring of
his youth. Following the footsteps of his mentors, he began a career as a musician,
playing in the Toronto blues/rock circuit where he gained a solid reputation for his
soulful vocals and melodic harmonica lines. As an actor, Kieron has had roles in a

LYLE LOVETT & HIS LARGE BAND ~ Friday, August 7 ~ $52 in
advance / $60 day of concert ~ A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has
broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14
albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses
elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Lovett has appeared in 13 feature films, and on stage
and television. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he
was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was
recently named the Texas State Musician. Garden & Gun recently called Lovett “one
of America’s most beloved singer/songwriters,” and he was featured in the coveted
“What I’ve Learned” column in the February 2012 issue of Esquire. Lovett has been
touring in support of Release Me since its release in February, 2012. The album was
#1 for several weeks on the Americana charts. Release Me is quintessential Lyle,
mixing a smart collection of originals and songs written by some of his favorite songwriters that show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also
the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most infectious and fascinating
musicians in popular music. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has
evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. His oeuvre, rich and
eclectic, is one of the most beloved of any living artist working today. More info:

BRUCE HORNSBY & THE NOISEMAKERS ~ Friday, August 14
~ $40 in advance / $45 day of show. Almost three decades after winning a Grammy
for Best New Artist and launching one of contemporary music’s most diverse careers,
Bruce Hornsby still makes joyful noise as he discovers clever and expansive ways to
chronicle dynamic musical snapshots of his often generously collaborative journey.
Nothing better illustrates this than Hornsby’s communion with his longtime band, The
Noisemakers. And nothing catches that connection with more daring fluency than a
couple of live collections released eleven years apart; 2011’s Bride of the Noisemakers, a set of concert recordings from 2007 to 2009, and 2000‘s Here Come the Noisemakers, which initially unveiled Hornsby and his band’s free-wheeling live approach-
es to the Virginia-born pianist and composer’s memorable songs. Tapping into many
of the genres that have influenced Hornsby’s music over the years - pop, jazz, bluegrass, country and modern classical - The Noisemakers are bassist J.V. Collier, a
twenty-year veteran of the band, as well as keyboardist/organist John “JT” Thomas
and drummer Sonny Emory, who have played with Hornsby twenty-four and twelve
years respectively. Summer 2014 marks the arrival of two new Noisemakers -- fiddle/
mandolin player Ross Holmes and guitarist Gibb Droll -- as well as the departures of
longtime members Bobby Read and Doug Derryberry. Holmes currently fiddles for
Mumford and Sons, has played with hosts of Nashville titans as diverse as Ricky
Skaggs and the Dixie Chicks, and has performed with symphonies in the United
States and Europe. Droll has played guitar on various projects involving Keller
Williams, Kevin Kinney, and Brandi Carlile. “I think the guys in The Noisemakers like
the gig because there’s never a dull moment and we attempt to keep the spontaneity
factor high,” Hornsby says. “The idea always is, ‘Watch Bruce.’ I’m a fairly loose
leader and I don’t like to rehearse. We mostly just ride around the country on a bus
and laugh a lot. Hopefully you can hear that loose spirit in our shows.” For all his
talents as a singer, bandleader and pianist with an instantly identifiable sound,
Hornsby is a songwriter at heart committed to portraying his songs in changing ways
that allow them to expand organically. This approach was further developed by
Hornsby’s time with The Grateful Dead when he joined the legendary band between
1990 and 1995 for over a hundred shows and again this July. In the Dead’s vibrant
tradition of loosely blending improvised folk and blues Hornsby found a shared musical aesthetic. His three Grammy wins typify the diversity of his first decade of recording: Best New Artist as leader of Bruce Hornsby and the Range; Best Bluegrass Recording for a version of “The Valley Road” that appeared on the Nitty Gritty
Dirt Band’s Will The Circle Be Unbroken Volume II; and a shared award with Branford
Marsalis in 1993 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for “Barcelona Mona,” a
song for the 1992 Olympic Games. Consider: His albums have sold over 11 million
copies worldwide. The title cut from The Way It Is was the most played song on
American radio in 1987, winning the ASCAP Song of the Year award. Harbor Lights
won the 1994 of Downbeat Reader’s Poll Beyond Album of the Year -- a citation
given to music from any genre apart from jazz or blues. Over the years, Hornsby has
played on over a hundred records, including albums by Bob Dylan, Don Henley, the
Grateful Dead, Bob Seger, Crosby Stills and Nash, Stevie Nicks, Cowboy Junkies,
Squeeze, Chaka Khan, Liquid Jesus, Bonnie Raitt, Chris Whitley, Shawn Colvin, Bela
Fleck, Clint Black, Del McCoury, Ricky Skaggs, Randy Scruggs, and Willie Nelson.
Hornsby has participated in memorable events: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 1995
opening concert, Farm Aid IV and VI, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Newport Jazz
Festival, New Orleans Heritage and Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, and Woodstock II and
III. More info: www.brucehornsby.com. Sponsored by Berklee College of Music,

WARREN HAYNES ~ SATURDAY, August 15 ~ $42 in advance / $45
day of concert. As rock’s foremost MVP singer-guitarist, Warren Haynes has been
constantly on the move and in the spotlight for the past two decades. During that time
the Asheville, North Carolina, native has maintained his tenure in Gov’t Mule, the
Allman Brothers Band, and The Dead, and while barely catching his breath between
their tours and studio sessions, he has also performed or cut tunes with a diverse
array of musicians. This diversity is showcased on the most recent Gov't Mule
album, Shout!, which features vocal contributions from Elvis Costello, Dr. John, Ben
Harper, Toots Hibbert, Glenn Hughes, Jim James, Myles Kennedy, Dave Matthews,
Grace Potter, Vintage Troubles Ty Taylor & Steve Winwood. Accolades bestowed
upon Haynes range from Grammy wins and nominations to his ranking at number 23
on Rolling Stone’s list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” He has played
New York City’s historic Beacon Theater nearly 300 times, more than any other artist.
Gov’t Mule has sold over two million song downloads from their own MuleTracks web
site. A wide range of stars including Garth Brooks, Gregg Allman, Phil Lesh, Little
Milton, John Mayall, George Jones, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, and Buckwheat
Zydeco have recorded his songs in addition to the 25 songs he has written for the
Allman Brothers Band. If there’s such a thing as karma, perhaps that has been a
factor in Haynes’s success, since he is also a major supporter of Habitat for Humanity, a charity that builds housing for the disadvantaged. Each year he organizes his
annual “Christmas Jam” benefit for Habitat in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. This is Warren’s only solo show this summer and he will perform two sets with
no opening act. Sponsored by NewHope Natural Media, Presence Marketing, National Cooperative Grocers and Go Veggie! in honor of Vitamin Angels. Media

program, A Celtic Sojourn over the past 28 years have proven extraordinarily popular.
This concert will follow the format established for the Christmas Celtic Sojourn
concerts which, during this past December, played to over 12,000 people in the area,
and A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn which in 2015 expands from its multiple shows
in Cambridge, to New Bedford and Worcester. “Each Saturday on air at WGBH and
with a growing world-wide audience on the web, we explore and celebrate the roots
and branches of Celtic music. This concert will do just that, presenting the following
performers in an up-close and personal format. www.wgbh.org/Celtic
Cherish The Ladies: Celebrating over 30 years of music-making, Cherish the Ladies,
rank up there with the Chieftains as the true, international ambassadors of Irish
Music. The Boston Globe says: “It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that
wouldn't enjoy what they do," with the Washington Post adding a simple description:
"An astonishing array of virtuosity. And in assembling such diverse musicians, and
presenting such a variety of music, song, and dance, they have become one of the
most engaging ensembles in the history of Irish music. www.cherishtheladies.com
Socks in the Frying Pan: Representing the young approach to traditional music and
representative of an exciting trend in Ireland of stretching the edges of the music, this
dynamic trio consists of two brothers, Shane and Fiachra Hayes on accordion and
fiddle/banjo and Aodán Coyne on guitar and vocals. Reared in the musical mecca of
Country Clare, the boys blend Irish traditional melodies with an innovative rhythmic
and melodic garnish. As for the inevitable question of where the name originated?
This is yet to be disclosed! But maybe we’ll get it from them when they are with us in
Lowell! This exciting group have been receiving many accolades for their modern
traditional style and energetic approach to music. This, combined with an acoustic
musical interplay, three-part harmony and an obvious love for live performance,
compliments the traditional essence of both tune and songs in a fresh and entertaining way. www.socksinthefryingpan.com
Matthew Byrne: Brian O’Donovan has been totally impressed by this singer for the
quality of voice and repertoire and unique approach. Great male singers in the Celtic
genre are hard to come by. There are many good singers, but very few great singers.
Matthew is one of the latter,” says O’Donovan. Following a family legacy of
Newfoundland music makers, Byrne is strongly influenced by his unique musical
lineage. He knows the tapestry of traditional songs equally weaves a great story with
a beautiful melody. Stripped down, his live show offers powerful honesty, polished
guitar work, masterful storytelling, and a voice that transports time, place, and oceans.

The McCarthy Family: Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello are traditional
musicians well known in Ireland and the US. They are also known in this area as
the affable owners of the Burren Pub in Somerville itself a destination for traditional musicians from all over the world. With deep family histories connected to the
music of Co. Clare and Co. Galway as well as the teeming Irish emigrant
communities of mid-twentieth century London, they bring a richness of experience
and personal history to pure-drop performances. For this Celtic Sojourn Concert,
they will be joined by their fiddle playing daughter, Rose, and her first cousin,
Peader Giles, on the Uilleann Pipes.

JOHN HIATT & THE COMBO AND THE TAJ MAHAL TRIO ~
Thursday, August 27 ~ $44 in advance / $50 day of concert. John Hiatt,
who the Los Angeles Times calls “…one of rock’s most astute singer-songwriters of
the last 40 years,” released his latest album Terms Of My Surrender in 2014. Hiatt,
a master lyricist and satirical storyteller, weaves hidden plot twists into fictional tales
ranging in topics including redemption, relationships, growing older and surrendering, on his terms. The new record is musically rooted in acoustic blues, accentuated
by Hiatt’s soulful, gritty voice, which mirrors the gravity of his reflective lyrics. Hiatt’s
songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt (“Thing
Called Love”), Emmylou Harris, Iggy Pop, Rosanne Cash (#1 country hit, “The Way
We Make A Broken Heart”), the Jeff Healey Band (“Angel Eyes”), and even the
cartoon bear band of Disney’s film, The Country Bears. He earned a Grammy
nomination for Crossing Muddy Waters, while B.B. King and Eric Clapton shared a
Grammy for their album Riding With The King, the title track from which was a Hiatt
composition. Hiatt has received his own star on Nashville’s Walk of Fame, the
Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, has
been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and was saluted at the
Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards. The rock-country-blues fusion album Bring The
Family – performed with Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and Jim Keltner – was Hiatt’s first
charted effort, and he was subsequently named Best Male Vocalist in Rolling
Stone’s annual Critics Poll. In the last few years Hiatt has released Same Old Man,
The Open Road, Dirty Jeans & Mudslide Hymns and Mystic Pinball all to critical
acclaim as All Music Guide declares “And for a guy who has cranked out four studio
albums in five years, Hiatt is having a great run as a songwriter…” Alternately
bemused and profound, he’s a self-aware chronicler of both his own and others’
stumbles and epiphanies, the tales richer with each step forward. More info:

Taj Mahal was born Henry St. Claire Fredericks, Jr. and grew up in Springfield Massachusetts. In the early 60s, he studied agriculture (minoring in veterinary science
and agronomy) at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, part of the genesis of
his interest in performing regularly at Farm Aid concerts. In 1968, he performed in
the classic film “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.” After years on the road,
Mahal released a series of recordings with the Phantom Blues Band, including
Dancing the Blues (1993), Phantom Blues (1996) and the two Grammy winners,
Señor Blues (1997) and the live Shoutin’ in Key (2000). Overall, he has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards. His 2008 recording Maestro marked the 40th anniversary of his recording career and featured performances by Ben Harper, Jack
Johnson, Angelique Kidjo, Los Lobos, Ziggy Marley and others – many of whom
have been directly influenced by Mahal’s music and guidance. Since the release of
2008’s Maestro, his most recent studio recording which received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album, Mahal has been busier than ever touring and recording at a whirlwind pace with old friends and fellow musical sojourners.
In 2010, after being nominated for Entertainer of the Year by the Blues Foundation,
he joined Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night studio band The Roots as a special musical
guest on the Rolling Stones classic “Shine a Light.” He also opened for Bob Dylan
and performed a special opening solo set – and then performed with - Eric Clapton
and Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center. In 2012, Mahal joined the critically acclaimed
Experience Hendrix tour that included performances by Buddy Guy, Dweezil Zappa,
Robby Krieger, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Keb’ Mo’
and Living Colour. Energized anew after the Sony Legacy release of two collections
celebrating the riches and rarities of his musical legacy – the two disc set The Hidden
Treasures of Mahal Mahal 1967-1973, featuring a full live 1970 concert from Royal
Albert Hall, and The Complete Columbia Albums Collection box set, featuring all of
his LPs from 1968-1976 – the bluesman enjoyed a wildly productive 2013, performing
as a featured guest at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival at Madison Square Garden where over 30 of the world’s greatest guitarists played sidemen to each other
over two nights. Mahal jammed with The Allman Brothers Band featuring David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos and in a special unplugged acoustic set with Keb’
Mo’. He capped the year with “An Evening with Taj Mahal” at the Grammy Museum in
Los Angeles. Celebrating decades of recording and touring that have nearly singlehandedly reshaped the definition and scope of the blues via the infusion of exotic
sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and South Pacific, the two-time Grammy winning
singer, songwriter, film composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist was feted with
the Lifetime Achievement for Performance Award at the 13th Annual Americana Honors and Awards in 2014. More info: www.tajblues.com. Sponsored by Seventh

LAKE STREET DIVE ~ Friday, August 28 ~ $33 in advance / $40
day of show. Lake Street Dive find themselves on the cusp of stardom, though they
insist they will always be the same people whose stage outfits once consisted of
matching sweater vests. Lake Street Dive have been performing for nearly a decade
after meeting as fellow students at the New England Conservatory in Boston. The
band was hand picked by Minneapolis trumpet/guitar player Mike Olson and named
after an actual neighborhood of seedy bars in his hometown. Vocalist Rachael Price
came from outside Nashville, Tennessee, stand-up bassist Bridget Kearney was an
Iowa native while drummer Mike Calabrese called Philadelphia home. Lake Street
Dive has come a long way, but this just could be the start of something even bigger.
It took a casually made video featuring the band gathered around a single mic, performing a cover of Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” shot on a Brighton, Massachusetts, street corner to grab the public’s attention—its YouTube views now hurtling
past 2.9 million views. What followed was nothing less than a modern-day music
business success story—T Bone Burnett tapping them to perform on the Another
Day, Another Time show at Town Hall in New York City featuring music from and
inspired by the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, taped for an upcoming special
on Showtime. The New Yorker raved of their Town Hall performance: “I can’t
imagine that Lake Street Dive—a quartet led by an amazing young singer, Rachael
Price—won’t be getting some air time soon.” Rolling Stone called the band
“unexpected showstoppers,” while Hollywood Reporter noted the group “delivered
one of the show’s best moments with the swinging ‘You Go Down Smooth,’ with
stirring vocals by lead singer Rachael Price.” The New York Daily News was
similarly enthused, saying Lake Street Dive “was the evening’s wild card,” and
noting Price “has the soulful howl of a young Etta James.” And just like that, Lake
Street Dive went from playing for a small devoted following, to selling out venues
and planning an initial European tour, with dates on several late-night TV shows in
the offing. The new album, Bad Self Portraits, which was released by the Northampton, Massachusetts indie label Signature Sounds Recording as the follow-up to a
self-titled debut and subsequent EP, is a microcosm of Lake Street Dive’s evolution
of the band from “a weird alt-country jazz group to a pop-soul juggernaut, that turns
‘60s influences like Brill Building girl groups (“Stop Your Crying”), British Invasion
rock (“Bobby Tanqueray”), horn-driven Stax R&B (“You Go Down Smooth”), Motown
soul (“Use Me Up”) and even The Band-like gospel blues (“What About Me”). “Our
musical development has been like Google Earth,” explains Olson, “going from the
entire universe to a specific place. That’s how we’ve honed in on our sound. We had
the whole world of music at our fingertips, and we were unsure of what direction to
take, but now we’re zeroing in a little closer.” All four members of the band take part
in the writing. The Bridget-penned title track is a wry commentary on how those
selfie iPhone photos are just a cover for loneliness, but it could also refer to the rest
of the album, each song a polaroid glimpse of a band that is constantly evolving.
“Nothing we do is set in stone,” says Olson about the band’s recording process in
the studio, and that they are, first and foremost, a live outfit. “Songs change when
we start to play them for people. That determines the stylistic direction more than
anything else. When we record a song, that’s just a snapshot of where it was at that
moment. And it continues to grow as we perform it.” And as things are rapidly growing for Lake Street Dive, the nine years that they spent focusing on their musical
development has left them with one constant to strive for. “We are named in homage to dive bar bands,” says Calabrese, “we were, are and always will be a dive bar
band. Whether we’re playing for 10 people or 10,000 we want them to have that
feeling.” More info: www.lakestreetdive.com. Sponsored by Elevation Brands,

MELISSA ETHERIDGE ~ Saturday, August 29
~ $64 in advance /
$70 day of concert. Academy Award and Grammy winning artist, Melissa
Etheridge, will take the stage with her band to perform songs from her new album,
This is M.E., as well as some of her greatest hits like “Come to My Window”, “I’m
The Only One” and “I Want To Come Over.” Known for her iconic voice, profound
lyrics and riveting stage presence; Melissa will share personal stories about her
remarkable journey through life and the inspiration behind some of her most
beloved songs. That resolute yearning, that longing for connection, for contact, for
touch…these are the core forces powering Melissa Etheridge’s cherished songs
throughout her singular career. With this album, her 12th collection of new material,
she is not alone as a songwriter. For the vibrant collection she teamed with some of
the most creative, inventive figures on the music scene: Jerrod Bettis (Adele, One
Republic, Eric Hutchinson, Gavin DeGraw), Jon Levine (Nelly Furtado, K’Naan,
Selena Gomez), JerryWonda (Grammy Award-winning producer of the Fugees,
Mary J. Blige, Akon) and Roccstar (Usher, Chris Brown) at the forefront. It was a
very new way of doing things for the artist, who counts two Grammy Awards and 17
nominations, an Academy Award (for “I Need to Wake Up” from the Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth) and a star on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of
Fame among her many accolades. Recording the new album proved an inspiring,
electrifying experience for her, the best kind of challenge. And the resultant energy
is clear in the songs. “I haven’t been this excited about making music and creating
in ages,” Etheridge says. “Song after song was a great experience.” Make no mistake, the album’s declarative title is fully fitting— not despite the collaborations, but
because of them. The powerful lyrics and incomparable voice, the indelible melodies, the blazing guitars could be from no one else. And same for the soulful joy and
unbridled passion powering every note. As the album title says, this is all Melissa
Etheridge— ME. It also marks the debut of her independent label, ME Records, a
venture that gave Etheridge new freedoms to explore creative avenues. The whole
process, she says, has been invigorating. “It’s a liberating responsibility,” she says,
noting that it’s not a contradiction in terms. “I was liberated to make my own choices, to be in charge of where every dime went, who exactly I wanted to record with.
And it was a responsibility to say, ‘How can I get the best out of me and get the end
result I’m looking for.’” The making of the album was inspired and inspiring, energized and energizing. It’s there in every note. The bottom line, she says, simply:
“I’ve made an album I love.” More info: www.melissaetheridge.com. Sponsored by

New Mill Projects Underway
Lowell continues its amazing progress in mill renovation with
the start of two very important projects this summer. ReesLarkin Development has joined with the Mullins Company to
invest $27 million in the next major phase of the Massachusetts Mills on Bridge Street downtown to produce 70 apartments at the long vacant Picker Building. There will be limited
demolition to provide fire access for it and the remaining Boiler
House, which is located at the confluence of the Merrimack
and Concord Rivers and promises to include the most dramatic
of all downtown living spaces in a later phase.
Another exciting initiative is Earth Realty’s proposal to
create 13 luxury condos and indoor parking at the Assets
Power House, located off Market Street between the Market
Mills Apartments and Canal Place Condos.
This spring, Lowell celebrated the opening of the 54
beautiful apartments at the 100,000 square foot Counting
House Lofts - formerly Courier Citizen Printing - in the Hamilton
Mills complex on Jackson Street, a $20.8 million investment by
Winn Development.
A remarkable 94% of Lowell’s 5.2 million square feet of
historic mill space has been renovated over the past three and
a half decades into apartments, condos, offices, a health clinic,
high technology R&D space, television studios, artist galleries,
artist live/work spaces, education and museum uses. Current
projects will bring the investment total to $575 million.

Boott Mills Rehabilitation Completed
Behind the Boarding House Park stage is the Boott Mills
complex consisting of 810,000 square feet of space. After the
textile era, it became home to many small industries until eventually becoming vacant.
Wang Laboratories purchased Mill #6 to the right of the
stage for manufacturing, but never proceeded with that project, ultimately selling it to the National Park Service which
invested $15M and opened its Boott Cotton Mills Museum in
1991. The museum contains a replica weave room with 88
working power looms, a second floor museum space, and its
education center - The Tsongas Industrial History Center
which has hosted over one million visits - on upper floors.
There are also offices for employees of the Lowell National
Historical Park and the Northeast Regional Office of the National Park Service.
In the late 1980’s Congress Group Properties undertook a
$28M rehabilitation of the South Mill – the one directly behind
the stage – for office use and also upgraded the warehouse
building that is attached to the boardinghouse to the left of the
stage. Today it is owned by Farley White Interests.
In 2004, Winn Development invested $30M to create 154
units known as the Apartments at Boott Mill, just across the
courtyard from the museum. In 2006, developer Ed Barry invested $7.5M in 42 condominium units, but additional units
were delayed due to the economy. Winn Development returned
in partnership with Rees-Larkin Development to invest $37M to
complete the remaining portions of West Mill by creating
44,000sf of office space and 96 additional apartment units in
2014. The entire Boott complex is now completed with total
investment exceeding $117 million dollars.
