AUDI TT 3.2 QUATTRO

FIRST REGISTERED: 1ST MARCH 2007
247BHP @ 6300RPM
236LB FT @ 2500-3000RPM
V5 TO FOLLOW
When the first Audi TT launched back in 1998, an
icon was born. Unique, distinctive, unmistakably
Audi – it challenged the notion of what a sports
car should be.
The TT is not about getting the details right. It’s
about getting them perfect. It’s a philosophy that
Audi applied to every element of the TT’s design.
8 | Wilsons Auctions, Prestige Auction, Friday 27th November, 7pm
A design that starts with the car’s sweeping domelike roof that flows gracefully into the TT’s powerful
shoulder line. Add prominent flared wheel arches,
short overhangs at the front and rear end and an
imposing wide stance – and you have a sports car
that is impossible to forget.
Form follows function
The TT was unveiled as a concept car in 1995. Just
three years later, it was put into production. It was
the dawn of a wonderful new era for Audi. And it
began with Bauhaus art.
The Bauhaus art movement was founded in
Germany by the architect Walter Gropius who
wanted to focus on ‘fundamental design’, not
decoration. He felt that true beauty was to be found
in a purity of purpose, in exact proportions and
carefully controlled geometry.
Audi’s stylists adopted these principles to create
the clean, minimal yet award-winningly beautiful TT.
Those themes are still evident in every Audi made
today.

DUCATI 916 SPS (FOGGY REPLICIA)
LIMITED EDITION: NUMBER10 FROM 202
FIRST REGISTERED: 17TH MARCH 1999
WITH DAINESE RACING LEATHERS, GLOVES & HELMET
WITH TRAILER
REGISTRATION: SUBJECT TO CHERISHED TRANSFER
Although Ducati’s water-cooled 8-valve v-twin had
been around in its original 851 and 888 incarnations
for six years and had already won four World
Superbike Championships, it was the arrival of the
iconic 916 for 1994 that really captured the public’s
imagination. Styled by Massimo Tamburini, the 916
and its subsequent evolutions established Ducati
as one of the world’s foremost brand names.
22 | Wilsons Auctions, Prestige Auction, Friday 27th November, 7pm
Universally recognised as icons of automotive art,
Ducati motorcycles have been exhibited in some
of the world’s foremost museums, including the
Guggenheim in New York and the Museum of Modern
Art in San Francisco.
The original 916 Strada was superseded by the
Biposto (two-seat) version and the higherspecification SP. The latter’s engine remained at 916cc
but added twin fuel injectors and bigger valves to the
package for increased power and torque. The SP
reverted to a single seat unit (with white number
boards) while gaining superior Öhlins rear suspension.
Next came the ultra-exclusive 916SPS derivative, of
which only 400 examples were made. Despite the
name, the 916SPS enjoyed the advantages of an overbored engine displacing 996cc and delivering a
mighty 132bhp at the rear wheel.
Capitalising on Carl Fogarty’s World Superbike
Championship successes, Ducati introduced the
limited edition 916SPS ‘Fogarty Replica’ in 1998 at the
behest of UK importer Moto Cinelli. Only 202 were
made, number ‘002’ being reserved for the great man
himself while ‘001’ was retained for Ducati’s museum
in Bologna, with the rest going to wealthy (the list
price was £20,000-plus) British enthusiasts. Like the
standard 916SPS on which it was based, the ‘Foggy
Rep’ used the 996cc motor but in a slightly higher
state of tune courtesy of a full titanium exhaust
system, larger airbox and altered fuel injection
mapping. Other ‘goodies’ included lightweight
Marchesini wheels, carbon-fibre seat unit, carbon
swinging arm protector and colour-matched mirrors

They are also distinguished by excellent resistance to

regulator (time-measuring device) is a quartz crystal.
An electrical current causes the crystal to vibrate very
consistently and at a very high frequency (32,768
times per second). This gives the movement almost
perfect precision (a variation of only a few seconds

San Juan is an important Argentinean wine-producing
area. Originally a prolific producer of high-yielding
pink grape varieties (e.g. Cereza), whose high sugar
content made them ideal for blending, San Juan
is now producing wines of increasing quality using
traditional European grape varieties. Syrah and the
ever-present Malbec are the most important of these.

Model No. 16613
Individual Ref. E575792
Cost New: £8,950
The Oyster Perpetual Submariner is the quintessential
divers’ watch, the benchmark in its genre. Introduced
in 1953 during the pioneering era for scuba diving, it
was the first watch to be water-resistant to 100 metres
(330 feet). This iconic timepiece has since evolved
with a series of patented Rolex technical innovations,
guaranteeing its reliability and precision down to
depths of 300 metres (1,000 feet). At home in the
oceans, where it remains an indispensable instrument
for every diver, the Submariner has also conquered
terra firma as the watch of action with a rugged
elegance of its own. The Submariner is available with
and without the date function.
The Oyster Perpetual Submariner’s robust and
functional design swiftly became iconic. With their
subtly redesigned Oyster case, distinctive dial with
large luminescent hour markers, graduated rotatable
Cerachrom bezel and solid link Oyster bracelet, the
latest generation Submariner and Submariner Date
are firmly in line with the original model launched in
1953. Equally at home underwater and at a gala
dinner, the Submariner models set new standards of
robustness, reliability, comfort and timeless sporting
style.

This year, IWC Schaffhausen celebrates the 75th
year of the Portugieser (Portuguese) watch family.
Its colourful history reflects the development of the
Schaffhausen-based watchmaking company into
an internationally renowned luxury haute horlogerie
brand.
In the late 1930s, two Portuguese businessmen
ordered wristwatches with the precision of marine
chronometers from the International Watch Co. At the
time, the only way of providing the requested accuracy
was by using a voluminous pocket watch calibre. This
was the reason why IWC’s watchmakers selected
the 74-calibre hunter pocket watch movement, which
fortunately has the crown on the right-hand side, and
housed it in a wristwatch case.

90 | Wilsons Auctions, Prestige Auction, Friday 27th November, 7pm
tipped hand, which circles the dial once every 24
hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable 24-hour
graduated bezel. The distinctively coloured 24-hour
hand displays the “home” reference time in a first
time zone which can be read on the graduations on
the bezel.
The traveller’s local time is easily set by “jumping”
from hour to hour, thanks to an ingenious
mechanism operated via the winding crown: the
hour hand can be adjusted forwards or backwards
independently of the minute and seconds hands.
This allows travellers to adapt to their new time zone
without affecting the precision of their timekeeping.

The former fishing village of Portofino on the Gulf of
Tigullio near Genoa in Italy has for decades been a
desirable destination for the international rich and
famous. To this day the Mediterranean flair of the
coastal town still exerts a magical attraction on
well-known actors, artists and people in the fashion
industry from all over the world. The narrow little
houses in red and terracotta clustered tightly
around the picturesque natural harbour provide the
perfect backdrop for stars and celebrities.
Even today, the international jet set gathers in
Portofino to enjoy the relaxed, laid-back lifestyle of
southern Europe. The classically elegant Portofino
watch family is a subtle reflection of this lifestyle.
The history of the Portofino watch family began in
the late 1970s. Back then, IWC noted a steady
demand for simple, classic models. The elegant
IWC Lépine open-face pocket watch (Reference
5201) served as the basis for the new watch line: its
dial was turned through 90 degrees and equipped
with a moon phase display. And that was it; the
new “pocket-watch style wristwatch” Reference
5251, which was unveiled in 1984, went by the
name “Portofino”. Since then, the Portofino
collection has become one of IWC’s most
successful watch families: an expression of
understatement and good taste.

Bright, golden yellow colour. Classic nose, rich,
complex, of dried fruit, sweet spices, vanilla, with a
hint of rancio. The palate displays the same pleasant
classicism, with this wonderful blend of pinot and
chardonnay, the house brand.

LAND ROVER SERIES 1 - 1957
MILES: 34,137
FIRST REG: 21/02/1957
V5: BUYER TO APPLY
The year is 1947. A man sketches the silhouette of
a car in the sand of a Welsh beach. That car
is the Land Rover. Tough, intrepid, it goes on to
change history, mastering all manner of terrain
and capturing hearts around the world.
Land Rover entered production in 1948 with what
was later termed the Series I. This was launched at
the Amsterdam Motor Show. It was originally
designed for farm and light industrial use, and had

a steel box-section chassis, and an aluminium body.
Something about Land Rover makes the adventurous
attempt the seemingly impossible.
