“I’ve never seen an ugly piece of walnut and the wood is very consistent.” — Mike Clemmer

“Mike Clemmer is one of the foremost
innovators and builders of the mountain
dulcimer. His handcrafted instruments have
taken the Appalachian dulcimer into the 21st
century while remaining true to the nostalgic
sound we all know and love. They are a true
pleasure to play.” — Michael Shull
“I would buy a Clemmer capo as soon as I buy my dulcimer. You know you’re
going to need it down the road. They’re hard to find. Mike’s are good quality and
they seem to fit about any width fretboard.” — Maureen Sellers
All my instruments begin with high
grade solid woods. The tops are air dried
down to 6 or 7 percent humidity, book
matched, and then hand tuned by using a
fiddle bow and rosin. After determining
the resonant frequency, I scrape the wood
until the tone is consistent for both pieces.
— Mike Clemmer
“One reason Mike Clemmer is a great dulcimer builder
is because he is a great dulcimer player. He knows what
musicians are looking for and he knows how to make it
happen.”— Steve Seifert

“My wormy chestnut dulcimer from Mike Clemmer
has a warm old-time voice in that Tennessee-Violin
body. From tunes played with a noter to accompanying
contemporary choral works, to playing rich 4-note jazz
chords with the extra bass note we customized, it is a
versatile instrument. And people always comment on
the beauty of its look and sound.”— Steve Eulberg

“All the fun of a banjo,
all the sound of a banjo,
all the ease of a dulcimer.
17 frets of drum headed
goodness! — Lee Rowe
Ban-J
“The Ban-Jammer made by Mike Clemmer
plays with the greatest level of clarity and
ease of any banjo-dulcimer being made
today. The instruments are also beautifully
made, highlighting the talent and skill of a
gifted luthier.” — Sarah Elizabeth
“I love the old-time sound of the Ban-Jammer.
If Steve Martin is right that it is hard to be
sad when you play a banjo, playing a BanJammer makes one grin from ear to ear, all
while playing a dulcimer!” — Steve Eulberg
“I had the pleasure of being the first to record
with Mike’s prototype Ban-Jammer #1. It
gave us that old-time banjo sound we needed
for my Appalachian Sunday CD. They have
only gotten better since then.” — Michael Shull

“For those of us who always wanted to play
banjo, but just aren’t coordinated enough for
all those strings and all those frets, give one of
Mike’s Ban-Jammers a try. His “Road Kill”
flat board design produces an amazingly big
and authentic sound.” — Tull Glazner
“The first time I played a Clemmer BanJammer, I knew I had found the tone I had
been looking for in a banjo-style dulcimer. I
love playing my Clemmer!” — Steve Seifert
“I had been looking for a distinct sound in
a banjo style dulcimer and I found it in the
Ban-Jammer. It really rocks!” — Jeff Hames
“Mike Clemmer’s Ban-Jammers are fun to play
and sound great! I love mine!” — Maureen Sellers
W
e have a very
simple philosophy at the Wood-NStrings retail store in
Townesend, TN: Stock
the store with instruments and accessories
that we, as musicians,
enjoy. Some folks tell
us they love our store
so much they plan
their vacations around
a visit.
We have a huge
selection of acoustic
instruments but we
also keep an eye on
the small stuff, like
pickin chairs, music
stands short enough
for dulcimers, a variety of picks including Herdim, Dunlop and Pointless,
bowed psalty bows,
Black Beuty Strings,
Wedgie pick holders,
strap locks, autoharp
fingerpicks,
Grover machine heads,
instrument stands,
electronic tuners of
all sorts, dulcimer
themed jewelry from
wood to gold, and
perhaps the largest
selection anywhere of
dulcimer related CDs
and books, including hard to find books
from the most popular
performers.
