REGISTRATION INFORMATION 14th Annual IFATS Meeting International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science November 17-20, 2016 The Westin San Diego • Gaslamp Quarter San Diego, California www.ifats.org We l c o m e from the 2016 IFATS President IFATS invites you to our 14th annual meeting in San Diego on November 17-20. This year we kick off the meeting with an exciting morning dedicated to “The Process Engineering of the Fat Graft”. This is the first ever symposium of its kind, dedicated to all the aspects necessary to get the best fat graft possible. You will hear a panel of experts including clinicians, research scientists, and industry leaders discuss the “best practices” for every step involved in delivering “the ideal fat graft”. You will hear about the best cannulas, the best harvesting methods, whether pre-treatment of donor or recipient area works, get a heads-up on exciting state-of-the art products that will improve your results, and learn the best ways to deliver a fat graft. On Saturday afternoon, a Legislative Issues panel will be really important, especially given the most recent FDA tissue guidances regarding Fat Grafting and what constitutes acceptable practices. Did you know that fat grafting to the breast is at risk according to these new FDA tissue guidances? Come to our meeting and find out more. IFATS holds the premier annual meeting dedicated to the science of fat grafting and this year we bring together not only the leading clinical practitioners with whom we are all familiar, but also leading endocrinologists from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, experts in the field of genomics and big data as applied to medicine, and stem cell researchers from other specialties such as cardiology and orthopedics. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to get “The Big Picture” about fat grafting, from the bench to clinical uses and beyond to the possibilities of applying “Big Data” techniques to our growing knowledge. AREA ATTRACTIONS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS BALBOA PARK Balboa Park is over a 1400 acre site with historical buildings, numerous museums, gardens, and green space. The park was created for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916 with most of the buildings in the park remaining from that event. The predominant architecture is Spanish-Mexican style, low level buildings that blend in with the natural surroundings. Among the highlights of the park are the Botanical Gardens and lily pond, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Even if you never go into a building the park is simply a beautiful place. GASLAMP QUARTER In downtown San Diego is the Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District, an area of restored late 19th and early 20th Ce n t u r y Vi c t o r i a n buildings. Today the Gaslamp Quarter is a trendy area with shops, restaurants, and galleries, attracting locals and tourists. The area covers less than 20 blocks and runs approximately from Broadway to San Diego Bay. There are also a large number of upper end hotels that are popular with both tourists and business travelers due to its great location in the city. This area underwent restorations in the 1970s which eventually led to it being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. SEAWORLD SeaWorld San Diego is one of the city’s main attractions, particularly for families. It is located along the waterfront in Mission Bay. For many American’s SeaWorld has been a long time family tradition, having been around since the 1960s. Among the highlights are the myriad of shows featuring killer whales, sea lions, dolphins, and other sea life. There are all kinds of rides from roller coasters plowing into water, to more sedate carnival type rides for tots. SeaWorld is an aquarium that allows for close up looks at sharks and other sea creatures that can be seen through an acrylic tunnel, along with touch tanks, and close encounters with dolphins and inhabitants of tidal pools. USS MIDWAY MUSEUM Walking along the San Diego waterfront trail, visitors may be surprised when they come across one of the US military’s largest ships. The decommissioned USS Midway is permanently berthed at Navy Pier. The highlights of a visit to the USS Midway Museum include over 60 exhibits and 25 restored aircraft. Over 225,000 military service personnel served on the ship and today visitors can take a selfguided audio tour to learn all about its history. For an additional fee visitors can try a flight simulator on board.
