Independence Australia cares about our environment. This Annual Report is printed on Maine Recycled paper –
60% comes from post consumer recycled fibre – that’s your waste paper, newspapers, magazines and printed
products. The remaining 40% of fibre is FSC® certified. Maine Recycled paper's low carbon footprint is neutralised
to zero through carbon offsets. The current offset project is the Acre Amazonian REDD+ project in Brazil.

BOARD CHAIR AND
CHIEF EXECUTIVE
OFFICER’S REPORT
We have continued to deliver much needed services in a climate of constant change
and relative uncertainty within the disability services sector. Despite the challenging
times, we remain fully committed to our core purpose, supporting people living with a
disability or other personal need to regain and retain their independence.
Whilst the principles of choice and control that underpin the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
are universally agreed, they need to be supported by appropriate policy and funding settings to ensure the
quality, safety and sustainability of community based supports. In addition, the move to consumer directed
funding will ultimately shape the service offering of providers such as Independence Australia, who will need
to respond sustainably to the purchasing decisions made by consumers based on their individual needs.
The delivery of quality, safe community based supports is also dependent on the availability of an
appropriately skilled and experienced workforce. It is apparent that the disability, aged care and allied
health sectors require a new, more considered and comprehensive solution to workforce learning and
development. In response, Independence Australia merged with Field, bringing together two highly
complementary service offerings to provide competency based and accredited courses, leadership and
management development programs to meet the needs of the sector.
A number of other highlights at Independence Australia during the year include:
•C
elebrating the 10th anniversary of the Daddo Charity Golf Day, with a record number of
players in attendance, raising $54,000 for unfunded programs such as the Psychology and
Counselling service.
•H
ealth Solutions Victorian operations relocating to larger, state of the art facilities that will
support continuing growth both now and well into the future.
• T he relaunching of Independence Australia Education Days, free wound care and continence
care seminars held in both Melbourne and Geelong that bring together health professionals and
carers to discuss clinical, caring and industry developments.
The Board and Executive Management Team would like to express our deep gratitude to our many
partners, including the TAC, the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Department
of Veterans’ Affairs, Western Australian Disability Service Commission, various local governments and
other community-based partner organisations including the Royal District Nursing Service, Annecto, AQA
Victoria, Carers Victoria, E.W. Tipping Foundation and many others.
We also extend our gratitude to the many trusts and foundations, corporations and countless individuals
for generously supporting our work over the past year.
Our success to date is testament to the efforts of our entire team, who are committed to ensuring that we
continue to support people living with a disability or other need to regain and retain their independence.
Thank you.

AR2015 | FINANCIAL REVIEW
THE FINANCIAL
YEAR IN REVIEW
The Organisation’s statement of surplus or deficit and other comprehensive income for
the year ended 30 June 2015 shows a surplus of $2,487,511 (2014: $2,009,672).
Total revenue for the 2015 financial year was $87,967,685 (2014: $82,487,902). The statement of
financial position at 30 June 2015 shows the organisation remains financially strong with total members’
equity of $18,749,887 (2014: $16,149,616).
The following charts provide a snapshot of Independence Australia’s non Health Solutions related activities
over the last twelve months. We continued to face challenges in the provision of quality services in a
changing environment with consumer choice being at the forefront of our activities. We strive to provide
effective and efficient services, whilst remaining responsive to community needs with our limited resources.
INCOME STREAMS
The analysis of income generated by Independence
Australia (excluding Health Solutions) showed that
Government grants accounted for just under half
of the income, reflecting the changing consumer
focus in the sector. The rest has been generated by
services to the NDIS and insurers such as TAC and
WorkSafe, and the remainder from our fundraising
activities including one major bequest.

FUNDRAISING
We are very pleased with the percentage of
donations to our Regular Giving Program, as this
is the most cost effective giving option for the
future. Telephone fundraising continued to be the
backbone for all of our fundraising by recruiting
our new donors and setting up support through our
other fundraising strategies. A very high percentage
of donors for all other categories can be traced back
to their beginnings through telephone fundraising.
We also received a significant distribution from the
Estate of Patricia Maria Russo.

ALLOCATION OF FUNDING
Government grants were received to support clients
both in their own home, in residential settings and
in the community. The vast majority was attendant
care (including respite services) provided in people’s
own homes and in our residential settings. Our other
services, whilst lower in gross terms, still represent a
significant contribution to the community.
ALLOCATION OF FUNDING
(OTHER)
Other services are those used on a daily basis
to provide counselling, nursing, recreation, case
management and information services.
