MARVEL UNIVERSE LIVE! OK, so the name Marvel has grown from
being the imprint on comic books aimed at schoolboys to one of the
largest movie franchises in history. Do we need even more Marvel?
Arena specialists Feld Entertainment say, “Yes, it’s time to see your
Marvel heroes live!” Millions of dollars have been spent to produce
an arena show that uses the most cutting-edge technical effects ever
seen as a cast of over 25 Marvel Superheroes, including Thor, Captain
America, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, and Wolverine trek across the
universe to beat Loki and other villains in locating fragments of the
all-powerful Super Cube. The producers have assembled some of the
world’s most gifted athletes and performers from the worlds of gymnastics, X-Games, wrestling, and even skiing. Supported by a unique
blend of aerial stunts, pyrotechnics and state-of-the-art special effects,
these hunky men in leotards bring an epic live action experience to life
right in front of the audiences’ eyes. Marvel Universe Live!plays in arenas in Phoenix, Sacramento, San
Jose, Anaheim, Fresno, Ontario, San Diego, Inglewood and Bakersfield between March and May of this
year. (marveluniverselive.com)
GUYS & DOLLS This quintessential Broadway musical is making a
whirlwind tour through the western states, including a number of one
night stands. The tale of uptight Sarah Brown being wooed out of the
nesting arms of The Salvation Army and getting a glimpse of the glamorous life of gamblers and their dolls opened on Broadway in 1951 and
played for 1,200 performances. It was a hit movie with Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando, and is one of the most frequently produced
musicals in the world. If you have somehow not seen the show, this
professional tour would be a good opportunity to correct that with performances in Palm Desert, Santa Barbara, Phoenix, Tucson, Fresno,
Reno, and Costa Mesa. (guysanddollsontour.com)
FUGUE How can composers Piotr Tchaikovsy, Arnold Schoenberg
and Carlo Gesualdo – from three different countries and three different centuries – balance the chaos of their creativity with their need for
love? Playwright Tommy Smith and Director Chris Fields explore that
in an exciting new work called Fugue, playing at Echo Theatre Company. The three stories are set on three sections of the stage, and
the stories unfold sometimes separately, and sometimes overlapping,
much as one section of an orchestra will carry the melody for a while,
and then play in counterpoint with another section. Each of these composers has personal struggles in their love lives, and the playwright
explores whether these struggles somehow gave rise to their genius.
With Tchaikovsky, played by Christopher Shaw, the composer is forced
to hide his homosexuality in 18th century Russia. He even marries a
young music student, though the marriage was a catastrophe and he
abandons her within weeks. One of his greatest passions was for his young nephew, Vladimir, which
Shaw says is quite overtly portrayed in the production. In his research, the actor found that even though
Tchaikovsky probably killed himself to avoid the societal shame of being gay, today’s Russian gays are
being chased by gangs of vigilantes, even to the point of being killed. Certainly nothing has improved.
LA Weekly described Echo Theatre Company as the “Best bet for ballsy original plays,” and Fugue looks like a top contender. Plays February 14 through
March 22 at Atwater Village Theatre. (echotheatrecompany.com)

Thank you! I am so-o-o-o excited! I mean, obviously I
have the biggest shoes in the world to fill. But the fact
that Joan and I were such good pals – and, in fact, discussed the show many, many times – it’s just, for me, if I
can get serious for one second, actually meaningful. And
I know it’s a silly show – we’re gonna make fun of silly
celebrities and pictures – but Joan was such a good pal
to me, but also an unrecognized pioneer in many ways.
I have to say, I really am getting a lot of gratification out of
the fact that I believe posthumously she’s finally getting
the respect that she so earned and so deserved, and
that’s kind of a mission that I’ve assigned to myself. No
one has assigned it to me, but it’s just important to me
that her legacy is protected and honored, because it’s a
legit legacy.
Kathy Griffin:
In All Seriousness…
Comedian opens up on Joan’s death, hosting
Fashion Police and emojis from Cher
By Chris Azzopardi
Kathy Griffin isn’t kidding when she says, “If I can get
serious for one second…” Putting aside her usual biting assault against all things celebrity, the comedian gets
candid about her dear friend and idol Joan Rivers in our
latest interview: Griffin’s frequent death-related conversations with the late comedy legend, “literally” getting
Joan’s permission to supersede her on Fashion Police,
and how Joan taught Kathy “not to give a fuck.”
Hi Kathy, how are ya?
Umm, this isn’t gonna go out to any, uh, gay people,
right, Chris? Because, you know, you give those people
an inch, they’ll take a mile.
Are you talking about penis size?
I’m talking about, when are we gonna end it with the letters and the numbers, Chris! LGBTQIA-2-3-4-5! Dammit!
I’ve got a GLAAD Vanguard Award and an HRC Award
and I still can’t keep up.
I’m gay myself and I can’t keep up.
(Laughs) Which letter or number are you?
Just the G for now.
Look, Chris, you’ve gotta up your game. You’ve gotta
stick in at least – can’t you be a Q? How hard is it to be
a “questioning”?
For you, Kathy, I could be a Q. And I could be a number.
OK, good. I just wanted to get a little something out of
you, because, you know, I gotta be up on the times with
the LGBTQIA2s, and from what I understand you people
are adding letters on a daily basis.
It’s really confusing you straight people, I know.
(Laughs) Keep it simple for the breeders! We are simple
people,

So, Kathy, congratulations on Fashion Police!
I mean, she was wild and outrageous, and I get it – with
the sequin jackets and the feather boas and the saying
crazy things to TMZ – but just as a female comedian, I
mean, talk about a feminist, talk about a groundbreaker.
I would never have this career without her, and I don’t
mean just this job (on Fashion Police) – like, duh – but
I mean everything from the beginning: what she did for
women in comedy in such a male-dominated field, and
for the LGBT community, and being down with the gays
long before Stonewall, before it was cool. Anyway, it’s
such an honor for me to sit in that chair.
Because Joan obviously was such an immense influence
on you, do you see your lives and careers aligning in
any ways?
I see our careers aligning in every way except stylistically. Joan was the master of the one-liners and the zingers; I am a lot more improvisational and conversational.
Don’t think that I’m really gonna be doing Joan’s style of
comedy, because one of the reasons we got along so
well is that we were never competitors in any way. First of
all, she was a fucking living legend, an icon, and I’m just
me. But in addition to that, we had a deep understanding – and this is very inside baseball – that stylistically,
she was in her lane and I’m in my lane, and that’s what’s
gonna happen on Fashion Police. I’m gonna do what I
do. I am off the cuff and take-no-prisoners, and in that
way we shared a philosophy, but stylistically we’re actually quite different.
As far as our careers aligning, yeah, of course. I mean,
the struggles. And one of the reasons I loved her so was,
I’ve never seen anyone in my career have to fight so hard
on their own. And this is no disrespect to my representatives, etc., but one thing I always admired about Joan
and that we share is, I never had a Lorne Michaels, I
never had a studio head take me by the hand and say,
“Here, I’m gonna set up an environment for you.” That’s
why my show was called My Life on the D-List, and that’s
why my talk show – I had a blast, but it was canceled
after two years. It’s been a struggle for me, and that’s
just my road.
So when I look at Joan, I look at someone that struggled
and it really paid off, and it paid off in so many ways.
What I learned from her is something that is just my story
as well, and it’s not everybody’s story, but it’s – you’ve
got to have your tentacles everywhere. What was so
great about Joan was the QVC line and the reality show
with Melissa (Rivers) and Fashion Police and touring.
We would often talk about how that’s just the way it is for
us; it’s not just gonna be the one job where then we have
summers off and we flip houses and we have our gifted
children that go to school with other celebrity children.
We’re just workhorses. So, that’s the way I roll, and that’s
the only thing I know. I’ve come to actually really love it.
You’ve said that Joan, before she died, passed the Fashion Police torch onto you. How so? What was the context
of that conversation?
Besides the fact that she literally said it to me at dinner one time? I mean, we used to talk about death all
the time, which is very common for comedians. It might
sound macabre, but we talked about everything under
the sun, and we would joke about everything, and nothing was ever off-limits and nothing was ever off the table.
She did, in fact, make all these jokes (about), “If anything
happened to me…” She would say, “If Jennifer Lawrence
ever kills me, you should take over Fashion Police,” and
I would say, “If Demi Lovato ever kills me, you can take
over my one-nighter at such-and-such center.” Stuff like
that. We discussed a wide array of things, but certainly
the thing we discussed probably more than anything
was, I would say, “Who was your Joan Rivers?”
She would say, “Look, for a long time Phyllis Diller and I
were linked, but the truth is, Phyllis was kind of the only
girl in certain clubs.” She said, “Phyllis was a little older,
so she paved the way for me and, of course, there’s
Moms Mabley and Totie Fields.” And, for me, that person
was Joan. So when I say I lost my person, that’s really
what I mean. As much as I’m a fan of all the comedy girls
and I am a comedy girl fan, I am not a competitor.
Everybody has a different story, so, for some reason,
Joan is the one that I connected with the most, (especially) as far as, “What are you in trouble for this week?!” and
always laughing through it and never really feeling like
it was like real trouble. We used to say, “Are you in real
trouble or ‘Hollywood trouble’?” And it was always Hollywood trouble. Through her example, and whether or not
it’s to my detriment, I really did learn not to give a fuck.
Regarding the skepticism of your role as host of Fashion
Police – how do you respond to the naysayers who doubt
you know anything about fashion?
First of all, I would say that I really did have a fashion
evolution, and what’s so funny about that is, and I actually talk about it in one of my specials, it’s called a “gay
mission.”
When I started out on Suddenly Susan I would turn to
Brooke Shields and say, “You know all these people
who can give me an outfit for a day!” I was on the worst
dressed list and then stylist Robert Verdi came into my
life and he said, “That’s it. I’m making this a gay mission.
I just think, because of who you are – a wacky comedian
– you need to be out there in labels. I don’t think you’re
Eva Longoria where you can be putting designers on the
map. You’re someone that needs to be out there in Oscar
de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors and Dolce &
Gabbana. If you look at my red carpet stuff over the last
couple of years, that’s all I’m in. So, it’s been an evolution
for me, and it’s been a learning process that I love. I love
getting to know these designers, and I do legitimately
love fashion. And so I am learning and continue to learn
and I love the artistry of it, but I’m always gonna make fun
of it. I’m gonna bring the hammer down no matter how
amazing these designers are.
and the ridiculousness, that’s my job. They’re actually
identifying it now as a comedy show. They didn’t hire me
to really be a fashionista. I love fashion, but they hired
me to really be the funny one and be the brutally honest
one, and also brutally kind whenever it warrants. Just like
my act, I never know what I’m gonna say.
Of everything you’ve done – books, television, and now
Fashion Police – where does standup rank for you at this
point in your career?
Number one always. First and foremost. And I’ll tell you
why: It’s the fuel for everything. I actually believe that as
a nation, if not world, we are on the verge of some sort
of return to legitimacy. What I mean by that is, with everybody lip-syncing, you actually notice a real-live singer
and you can’t help but notice it whether you’re looking
at them on Vine or on an old-fashioned television or live
or at a movie star who’s talented versus some dumbass
reality star.
I’m in the business of comedy, and I have two Emmys
and a Grammy and the Guinness World Record (for having the most televised comedy specials), and I am performing at the Kennedy Center and have performed at
Carnegie Hall and Sydney Opera House, and so standup
is always gonna be number one for me because no matter what sort of trendy device for finding our art exists,
nothing can ever replace the live experience. I mean, I
have literally played bus stops in Oklahoma and people
know the real deal versus, you know, somebody who
doesn’t know how to bring it. That’s why standup is always gonna be number one for me, because that live
experience can’t be faked. You cannot lip sync a comedy
show. You can’t do them in seven seconds. You can’t
Instagram it. You can’t edit it. The live experience is still
gonna be the most pure artistically. It’s where I rea-a-aally don’t hold back.
I mean, Fashion Police is gonna be – I’m gonna try to get
fired, let’s face it. I’m gonna try to say something so heinous I get fired – same with any talk-show appearance
– but honestly, the live experience, it’s the one place you
can’t get fired.
Being that I’m a gay man, I’m naturally concerned about
Cher, one of your BFFs. How is she doing health-wise?
Is she better?
She is! I just texted her last night and she hit me right
back and she’s feeling better. It’s funny, I reached out
for the same reason you did: I was like, “I’m a gay man
and I need to know,” and she was like (in Cher voice),
“I’m feelin’ a lot betta.” She texted me back in seconds.
If she’s able to text me back within five seconds, I’m
thinkin’ that’s a good sign. And of course she stuck in
some emojis, which I think is an even better sign.
Which emoji did she send?
She did two lips – kisses.
Good. I’d be concerned if she did “happy poop.”
(Laughs) Six of one and half dozen of the other – they’re
both good emojis from Cher.
You wouldn’t be Kathy Griffin if you didn’t.
Lastly, Kathy, if you could turn back time…?
I’m gonna be the Tom DeLay of Fashion Police, except
without serving the prison time, and I’m not a conservative. Someone’s gotta bring the hammer down, and
Fashion Police is still the go-to destination to see who’s
gonna really tell it like it is about who was best and worst
dressed. I mean, it’s Fashion Police, but it’s not all gonna
be limited to fashion; it may be for the others (on the
panel), but as far as when it’s time to infuse the comedy
I would have slept with Anderson Cooper for the one
week he was heterosexual during his 21st birthday. I
tried everything in the book, trust me, and it just wouldn’t
happen. I tried everything short of the Cosby.

Sex and Fitness
Did you know the healthier you are the better your sex will be??? Well not so much better in the actual physical
act of sex - that comes with talent, experience, and partner preference - but the actual hormones and physical
endurance will be better than if you were not in physical good health. Captain obvious right? What is not obvious is what exercises are the best for increasing hormones and for sexual performance. Specific workouts,
specific exercises, and eating a healthy diet can improve many factors where it comes to making the “magic”
happen.
First let’s talk about legs! Oh yes, that is right, legs. If you just thought to yourself that your legs are good and
you don’t need to work them out think again flamingo. All upper body with no legs creates a very disproportional
design and look, not including limiting your testosterone potential. Testosterone, the coveted male hormone
that builds muscle and...(Enter Superman theme song) creates the male sex drive, is secreted primarily by the
adrenal glands of the testicles in men and ovaries in women, and is increased and stimulated by packing on lean
muscle. Legs are the largest muscle grouping, so stimulate them!
Build the muscle and create lean body mass. Resistance training is the only way to build lean body mass.
Remember, cardio training only works the heart and builds your endurance. To create more testosterone you
must lift heavy to build your muscle mass. Design an exercise program built around heavy lifting. Whether it be
strength training or hypertrophy training, both will build mass, but design the program that is best for you. Sex
drive and testosterone will come with both.
You are not through the woods yet if your diet is not under control. Again, your goal is lean muscle mass, so eat
healthy. Eating healthy or clean eating, is eating a controlled diet to attain lean muscle mass. It involves only
natural foods, unrefined sugars, good fats, and complex carbohydrates. A term you will hear often is “eating
dirty,” that means eating whatever and whenever. Not the best choice, but people will do if for mass because
calories are calories and calories will achieve size. Maybe not lean body mass, but muscle will be the result
with the proper workout regimen.
There you go. All the basic tools for your tool! Apply them and see the results. If you are not already why not
try them out. The worst you could achieve is getting into better shape and no one has ever said, “I wasn’t so
good in bed.” Ever. Why not get better???
Fitness Tip: Leg exercises to help increase testosterone. Squats, lunges, dead lifts - oh my!

PARENTAL GUIDANCE
This issue we look at four new queer indie films all dealing with issues related to either being a parent or with
parents and family.
MY STRAIGHT SON (AZUL Y
NO TAN ROSA)
Venezuelan
writer/director
Miguel Ferrari’s debut film MY
STRAIGHT SON is equally funny, moving, and heartwarming.
The film centers on Diego, a
young and successful photographer, who lives in the glamorous but shallow and excessive
world of fashion. A tragic accident turns his world upside
down when a gay bashing
puts his partner Fabrizio into a
coma. Unexpectedly, while trying to deal with this tragedy Diego’s estranged teenage son Armando is dropped off by
the boy’s mother. Diego is unprepared to raise a teenage
boy, and Armando is closed off to accepting his father’s
gay world. MY STRAIGHT SON doesn’t just simply tell
the story of two opposite people learning new ways of
seeing the world; it uses this dynamic to explore deeper
issues of homophobia, domestic violence, and transsexuals in Venezuela. Much like Spanish director Pedro
Almodovar, Ferrari mixes over-the-top supporting characters, exotic scenery, family values, music and laughter
to tell a rich, multi-layered story.

THE DARK PLACE
THE DARK PLACE is the follow
up feature from the team who
brought us the film Judas Kiss.
A suspense thriller, THE DARK
PLACE tells the story of Keegan
Dark (Blaise Embry) a young
gay man with the power to remember his life in video graphic
detail—a gift that proves to be a
blessing and curse. Keegan returns to visit his mother at their
family winery after many years
in hopes of rebuilding their relationship and to introduce his
boyfriend (Timo Descamps). All plans quickly turn into
a dark mystery as he suddenly learns upon arrival that
he now has a stepfather and stepbrother (Sean Paul
Lockhart, aka Brent Corrigan) with questionable intentions. Soon his mother drops into a coma, his boyfriend
disappears and the town’s sheriff sees him as the prime
suspect. Left alone and with little time he must try to use

his abilities to unravel the mystery. THE DARK PLACE
has strong suspense, high stakes, and hot guys.

BIG GAY LOVE
Can a chubby gay man
find love in Los Angeles?
The new film BIG GAY
LOVE explores that question through the eyes of
Bob (Jonathan Lisecki), a
pudgy, wise-cracking party planner with a great job,
a new house, fabulous
friends, but no true love.
When romance does find
Bob in the form of a sweet
muscular chef named
Andy (Nicholas Brendon
from Buffy The Vampire
Slayer), he wonders if the
relationship could be true love, due to his years of insecurity. Actress Ann Walker plays Bob’s over-the-top and
overbearing mother who in trying to advise her son in
the ways of love only serves to heighten his own doubts,
jealousies and fears. BIG GAY LOVE is simple and light
comedic look at gay society’s perceptions of self-image,
self-esteem, and self-acceptance.
Available at Amazon and TLA Gay
TWO MOTHERS
(ZWEI MUTTER)
This drama from Germany tells
the story of happily married
couple Katja and Isabella who
decide to have a child. While
the idea seems simple at first
they are confronted with many
unexpected obstacles, bigotry, and extreme medical bills,
which forces them to explore
the idea of doing their own
home insemination and finding
their own sperm donor. As their
quest drags on Katja begins to doubt if she still wants a
child while Isabella becomes more obsessed and determined to get pregnant regardless the emotional costs.
While TWO MOTHERS has excellent acting from the two
leads it could seem slow and dragging if you’re not used
to the typical slow pacing of European dramas.

The Season of Nonviolence
It has been said that every season has a reason, and maybe it is true! At World As One, this season has great
meaning, because this time of the year we honor the Season for Nonviolence. If you have not heard of this campaign, well it is time you do. For over 18 years this program, The Season for Nonviolence, has been dedicated
to inspiring the citizens of the world to take a bolder step in creating peace and equality on Earth. The program
is focused around the memorial dates of two masterful peacemakers, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. The Season for Nonviolence began on January 30 and continues for 64 days, completing on April 4th.
These dates honor the memory of when both of these great leaders died - Mahatma Gandhi on January 30th
and Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4th. These two men dedicated their life to taking a stand for peace and
equality. The intention of this campaign is to bring forward the philosophy of attaining peace through nonviolent
action as demonstrated by these two great men and many others that have courageously walked with them.
In the world in which we live there is so much happening... each day we can look at our own lives and in the lives
of others in our world and see where life is changing and evolving at a rapid speed. Each day gives us another
opportunity to participate in the happenings of the world or not. We can look out into our communities and see
the places of violence and inequality that still exist, where judgment, racism and separation are running wild in
day-to-day happenings. What we must remember is that we too have a choice in where we place our attention, and where we give our energy. We too can be the peacemakers of society; we too can take bold actions
to create a world that honors all races, all people equally.
Our work is to go within to discover pathways of peace in our everyday lives. Opportunities where we can
choose to stay calm in the world where judgment may exist and find ways to be the voice of peace. We can
be the change, with each choice we make. Every time we choose to heal a hurt, reach out to another, curb a
sharp word, or boldly stand for equality in the face of separation, it is in those precious moments that we are
making choices that change our lives, and change our world. Anywhere we can catch our own inner judgments
of another, stop our language patterns from contributing to any agreement of separation, and truly take a stand
for equality, oneness and peace, we are then making a mighty difference! Today, this season, may you have
the courage and strength to walk in peace and be a light bearer of truth and equality! Together, we CAN make a
difference. Together we can honor the Season for Nonviolence in every step and choice we make!
“It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it.
And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt

Marriage Equality – A Changing Map
By: Michael Westman
The marriage equality landscape is changing quickly, and may have even
changed since this story went to print. Over the past year and half, courts have
made rulings that have vastly changed the landscape in favor of same-sex
marriage. Same-sex couples are now able to legally marry in 36 states*, the
District of Columbia, and some counties in Missouri. The marriage states are:
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii,
Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Minnesota,
Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New
Mi
York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South
Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and
Wyoming, as well as the District of Columbia.
What does that mean in terms of numbers? That means that approximately 70
percent of Americans live in states where same-sex marriages may currently be
performed.
“The overwhelming tidal wave of court rulings over the last year has
put America on the cusp of nationwide marriage equality.”
Sarah Warbelow, Legal Director for Human Rights Campaign.
In contrast, during the same period of time, a federal court in Louisiana and the
Sixth Circuit federal appeals court, have upheld existing bans on same-sex
marriages. The Sixth Circuit ruling applies in four states: Kentucky, Michigan,
Ohio and Tennessee. As a result of these now conflicting rulings, the United
States Supreme Court has agreed to resolve the split and decide the issue for
the entire country. Although the LGBT community has been fighting for such a
review, it is a double-edged sword. The Supreme Court could rule that the US
Constitution
requires states to permit and recognize same-sex marriages. This
Co
would force individual states to eliminate any existing state statutes or
amendments limiting marriages to one man and one woman, and a nationwide
victory for marriage equality! Or, the Court could rule that individual states retain
the power to define marriage, in which case earlier judicial decisions striking
down marriage bans could be reversed and some same-sex marriage bans
remain in place. So, the map is set to further change, in one direction or the
other, by this June.
____________________________
*Alabama is the latest state to strike down a same-sex marriage ban (number
37), but it is assumed the Judge will stay the decision pending the US Supreme
Court review.

Modern day record minstrel, Mark Farina, has thrilled crowds globally, entertaining over 1 million fans per year.
As one of the most ubiquitous DJs in Dance Music, Farina’s known for both his unique style of mixing Jazz,
Downtempo and House Music as well as being the creator of Mushroom Jazz: West Coast jazzy, organic productions combined with East Coast Hip-Hop, Urban beats.
Drawing from his vibrant youth, which included being a trumpet player in marching band, a drummer in a nu
wave cover band and a guest DJ, Friday nights on WNUR (Chicago), Mark found his passion for the luscious
world of vinyl, turntables and nightclubs. At 16, Farina began his DJ career as a resident at Chicago’s underage
mecca, Medusa’s. At the same time Mark joined forces with emerging DJs Derrick Carter and Chris Nazuka
then moved into a loft space called Rednail. Rednail became infamous not only for raucous parties but also as
the home to the trio’s first productions under the moniker, Symbols & Instruments. Their release,”MOOD,” sold
35,000 copies in the US & UK and is credited as “the first ambient house track.”
Farina relocated to San Francisco in 1992. Fans embraced Mark’s downtempo style and he started co-hosting
a weekly Mushroom Jazz club night in ʻ93. In 3 short years, Farina established a fanatical, cult-like following for
his Mushroom Jazz sound and in 1996, OM Records released the first mixed comp CD, simply titled, Mushroom
Jazz. Since then, Mark has released 7 volumes of Mushroom Jazz with 2013 marking the 20th anniversary of
the series. Other notable releases include OMʼs Seasons, San Francisco Sessions Vol. 1, Connect, House of
Om, Live in Tokyo, and Fabric 40.
When Mark’s not touring the world, headlining festivals including Harbourlife (Sydney), Southport Weekender
(UK), DEMF (Detroit), Coachella (CA) and T in the Park (Scotland), you’re likely to find him in his studio working
on new releases or podcasts for his label, Great Lakes Audio. On days off he’ll be cruising his ‘68 Toronado with
his son, Dylan (aka “little peanut”), and his Yorkie, Pumpkin. Voted as one of the top DJ’s in the world by URB,
MUZIK and BPM magazines, Mark Farina’s taste making skills continue to turn the heads of seasoned Dance
Music veterans as well as newcomers to the scene.

Las Vegas Hustlaball 2015 is now one for the record books.
During its Martin Luther King weekend run at The Artisan boutique hotel it managed to bring sex, kink, porn stars, freaks,
jocks, hookers, drag queens, go go boys and everything in
between under the same roof.
Just some of the porn stars in attendance were: Trenton Ducati, Ryan Rose, Boomer Banks, Sebastian Kross, Casey Everett, Brent Corrigan, Jesse Colter, Kurtis Wolfe, Armond Rizzo,
Leo Forte, Brenner Bolton, Johnny V, Blue Bailey, Samuel
Stone, Theo Ford, Eli Lewis, Rocco Steele, Bennett Anthony,
Ryan Raz, Brandon Baker & Cockyboys: Tayte Hansen, Levi
Karter and Ricky Roman.
The reviews on the entire weekend have been generally favorable. Let’s be honest, the promoters could have done a
carbon copy of what they did last year and played it safe, but
these bitches took it one step further, incorporating hardcore
sex in every aspect of the weekend made ticket holders of this
now annual event eat it all up! If you were a hotel guest, you
were less than impressed with the tiny rooms. “What the fuck,
I thought I was getting a suite,” I think I exclaimed. Although
no fault to the promoters of Hustlaball, The Artisan is in dire
need of a spring cleaning and a gay touch. However, seeing
it from the perspective of the Hustlaball crew this small, unassuming hotel was the perfect location for porn aficionados day
or and night.
Saturday night was the VIP Party located on the 5th floor of
the hotel. The crazy part: the entire floor was filled with men
half naked looking for some action. Pop star Lance Bass even
mentioned on his weekly radio show “Dirty Pop” that he was
receiving photos of men in action. Granted I can’t recall too
much and I’m not sure how much I’m legally allowed to say.
The main deejay for the evening was DJ Euro-Steve and in any
given room you could find random guys going at it, and with
performances going on by the professionals like Ryan Rose!
Porn-celebrities like director Mr. Pam were in attendance catcalling for men to have sex. When I grow up I want to be like
Pam! Obviously Mr. Pam is a supporter of mixing business and
pleasure! The sex and the party didn’t stop until the sun came
up! No one seemed to tire of exploring all that the 5th floor
had to offer.
Sunday was the official Hustlaball party and there was a line
out the door around the corner, and it seemed at one point
that the fire department might have to come and disperse the
crowd. Admittedly it’s a phenomenal party when Las Vegas
locals can’t even elbow their way in the doors. Literally, you
HAD to be at this party! I was the negative Nancy telling most
of my party that this would be soft core only since it was in
the lobby and main lounge area of the hotel and security was
everywhere. I’m usually not wrong, but I was blown away to
see Rocco Steele and Bennett Anthony going at it in one of the
side rooms. This room had a packed attendance for every sex
show that was featured throughout the night. The one complaint people had was they didn’t know where to go or what
was happening when. You would walk into one room and a
random spectator would say “Did you see what just happened
in that room over there?” I felt like I was at a theme park and
needed not only a map, but a breakdown of what time everything was happening! Again the party didn’t end until the sun
came up and I know this because the romper room was on
floor three – the floor I was staying on and we heard the fans
walking up and down screaming until 6am.
Overall the weekend was EVERYTHING and I have to give
the team of Las Vegas Hustlaball a BIG “thumbs up” for taking a chance, being creative and pushing the boundaries of
what I thought would ever go down in a small hotel off the Las
Vegas Strip!
For now we wait, until next
year….

Aquarius (January 20th - February 18th)
“Yes.” This simple word rolls off the tongue with grace. It
brings a sense of calmness and peace to things. You, generally, are a “yes” sign taking on challenges, that extra load or
help to finish any project. You pride yourself in facilitating, but
learn to say “no” this month. This will keep you from taking on
a task that can bring more trouble than it’s worth.
Pisces (February 19th - March 20th)
The chances of you winning the grand prize lottery is about
1 in 175,223,510. You might ask yourself, “What’s the use
of even playing?” Well, that’s the thing - you have to play to
win. You might be a bit apprehensive of an uncertain path
that has been presented to you. Playing it safe won’t always
ensure progress. Why not roll the dice? You might just hit the
jackpot after all.
Aries (March 21st - April 19th)
There’s an old Mark Twain quote that says, “If it’s your job to
eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning.” At first
glance or sound of it, you might think it to be a silly saying,
but the importance of this metaphor, for you, is learning to
deal with any doubts at hand first thing, so the rest of the
day may run a bit smoother. You will find this simple trick will
serve you well.
Taurus (April 20th - May 20th)
Orenda- a mystical force present in all people that empowers them to affect the world, or change in their own life. Your
Orenda is beaming with a blinding light. Now is the time to
act. Try out that new idea. Phase your tactics of domination
into your health and crush that “I want to get fit” into “I am
fit!” Empower yourself and trouble the waters. The force is
with you.
Gemini (May 21st - June 20th)
There’s a friend/colleague in your life that you don’t seem
to be getting through to. You’ve exhausted all trails, made
the banners and t-shirts, even left huge bread crumbs to the
obvious solution. Still, they waiver in uncertainty on what to
do. It’s time to stop trying to help. They’ll need to get this on
their own. Their need for you is support.
Cancer (June 21st - July 22nd)
“Ready or not, here I come.” Sometimes we see life’s storms
coming, causing us to burrow and hide till it passes. But you
don’t always have to wade through the downpour. An eagle
will soar above the storm and pass up all inclement weather
while maintaining a beautiful view of its flight. Any potential
threats mean spread your wings and soar high.
Leo (July 23rd- August 22nd)
Imagine you were floating out in space, with nothing. The illu-
56 | GEDMAG.com
sion of having nothing, or losing everything can be terrifying
to some. We want to hold on to all this stuff, as if this stuff,
other people, status, material possessions define who we
are. But you know better. When you let go of everything,
and the idea no longer scares you, you can be quite happy
in your outer-space.
Virgo (August 23rd- September 22nd)
In nature, when winter rolls in, everything seems to die off as
part of a much bigger cycle. Death doesn’t have to be so ugly.
In fact, it can be quite beautiful! This time of year, the pace of
life is slowing down to show you what no longer belongs. You
can change your life in this cool clarity. Use these beginning
months of the year to plan out what you want to see.
Libra (September 23rd- October 22nd)
What makes you happy? What excites you? What’s your joy,
bliss, passion? We all have something that lights that fire inside of us - have you discovered what yours is yet? Don’t
make excuses. Find that life purpose, not what society, self,
or anybody has lead you to believe is your passion. You know
you. Go do it.
Scorpio (October 23rd-November 21st)
You have an obligation to be the best you, the “Great I Am”
that you can be. You owe it to yourself to do good. Don’t let
fear consume you to the point you don’t do anything. Let go
of the “what if’s”, open up that heart; laugh, love, do all you
can do with this time that you have right now.
Sagittarius (November 22nd- December 21st)
Practice makes perfect, right? We can think, meditate, or tell
ourselves how we’ll react to a situation. But it’s not until we
get out there and live, that we get to put all these beautiful
thoughts into practice. You will be tested this month, Sagittarius. Don’t cling to just the ideas of being a nice, better
person, act on it. When the opportunities present themselves
to you, this is the time to DO.
Capricorn (December 22nd- January 19th)
There’s a problem that keeps reoccurring in your life, Capricorn. The universe (you) finds a way of attracting similar
people, events, and scenarios into your life until you pass the
test. You can’t seem to identify what it is, how it got there, or if
you even have a problem at all. Like seeing something out of
the corner of your eye, but when you go to look at it nothing’s
there. It’s hard to solve a problem, when you’re not quite sure
where to begin. Visualize the end result and how it feels to not
have this problem.

This is the high point of Leather Contest Season as
I call it and it’s great to see the contests are starting
to have more than two contestants as in the last few
years. Regardless of your opinion on “Leather Contests” and “Titleholders” it’s great to see there is still
an interest in stepping up and keeping that part of our
history alive. For many this can be a way of breaking
out of their shell and taking on a new adventure.
One of the two largest contests held in California is
produced by the San Francisco Bay Area Leather Alliance and they have announced their contestants for
Mr. SAN FRANCISCO LEATHER 2015 being held
during Leather Alliance Weekend, March 5 – 8, 2015.
Current titleholder Scott “Big Red” Farrell, Mr. SF

year is: “Bridging the Changing Faces of Leather &

great events they have already had and look for any

both organizations, the Leather Alliance is committed
to moving forward with our communities. Our Board
reflects the clubs, groups and individuals within the
leather, fetish, kink, gear and motorcycling communities.” The Alliance also offers education through their
