Innovative and Sustainable materials for the future
Els Zijlstra, Creative Director, Materia
Materials mean a lot for Architecture and Interior Design. Eco new materials and the new usage of traditional materials are the 2 developing trends for Building
and Construction industries in the future. Els told us:” When I found Materia, all my fascinations came together (architecture, biology, biomimicry, cultural
anthroposophy and journalism).”
10:40 – 11:20
The building as a source of energy
Paul de Ruiter, Founder, Architectenbureau Paul de Ruiter
Paul is one of the renowned Dutch Architects. He devotes himself into eco sustainability and achieved great efforts in this field. His best project is the TNT Center
in Hoofddorp which got the LEED Platinum certificate (In Northern European region, there are only 150 building projects can get the LEED Platinum certificate).
Besides his design activities Paul worked at a doctoral dissertation on climate active facades. He gives lectures, writes articles for professional journals and
teaches at the Dutch technical universities. Paul de Ruiter is involved with the foundation Living Daylights and is committed to several institutions that aim at a

Reversible Urbanism
Caroline Bos, Co-Founder, UN Studio

University of Utrecht. In 1988 she founded Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau with the architect Ben van Berkel, extending their joint theoretical and writing

In 1998 Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos founded UNStudio (United Net). UNStudio presents itself as a network of specialists in architecture, urban development

The Building Disappear
Kengo Kuma, Founder, Kengo Kuma and associates
Working in China is a significant change for my philosophy against western design principals. Japan is too small that I could not practice all the inspirations. China
is such an amazing country that multinational cultures, histories and traditions melt into the “Eastern Lion”.
“Why not we try to put a stone on the road and think over how to best put the stone and to see what will happen. I have the Impulse that we call this kind of action
Architecture Design.
14:45 – 15:30
The Cultural Sustainability of Architecture
Waro Kishi, Founder, Waro Kishi + K Associate
Mr. Waro Kishi is one of the best Japanese Architects. He advocates the Cultural Sustainability into his projects. He believes that a good building project must not
be a “Cultural Killer” for the region the building locates. He is also a renowned professor in University of Kyoto. His best projects include: Kyoto Kagaku Research
Institute, Tokyo International Air Terminal Commercial Zone, etc.
15:30 – 17:00
Panel Discussion: Cross Discipline: Architecture, Art and Inspiration
Dai Zhikang, President, Zendai Group
Alan Chan, Founder, Alan Chan design, renowned Hong Kong artist
Jiang Qionger, Brand Director, Shang-Xia
Mi Qiu, modern artist, architect, designer
Giel Groothuis, director, Dutch Design Workspace
Cross Discipline is not a new topic for architects and other fields’ designers. Art is always the corridor for inspiration in all kinds of design. How do different
industries’ art players consider architecture, art towards their projects?

Sino-Italy Design Management Salon
Date:
March 28th, 2012
Venue: Architect Library, W5 Hall, SNIEC
Who should attend: architects, interior designers, landscape planners
Most of the management members in design firms are coming from practical designer background. They have strong ability of design and practice. However, with the development of
the industry, management can no longer be coaching hands to hands any more. The standard to judge a good design firm is not on the design field ONLY any more. In stead, the
management system and the user-friendly corporate culture become the other key to open clients’ doors. Through good management system and strategy, a design firm can keep their
style of design for each projects they have been doing and no need for the management members to keep on teaching new designers how to keep consistence of the brand.
Organized by Tongji University Sino-Italy Institute and VNU Exhibitions Asia, the Sino-Italy Design Management Salon, as one of the events for 2012 Shanghai Architecture Fair, invites
Mr. Francesco Gatti from Italy, to share his experiences in Design Management.
Introduction:
Francesco Gatti was born in Rome in 1973. He graduated with honors degree in ROMA TRE University. In 2002 he established 3GATTI. In 2004 he
opened a new branch of the office in Shanghai where he completed many projects as the “Red Wall”, the “Shenyang shopping mall”, the “In Factory” old
factories renovations, the “KIC plaza” park, and prestigious interiors as the “Red Object” space, “The Cut” interactive disco club, “ZeBar” and “Alter”
fashion store.
Gatti won many competition and awards as: the “Buchanan Underground Station” (Glasgow-Scotland), the “Tra la murgia e il mare" urban development
(Andria-Italy), the "500M³ design " GBD art residential district (Beijing-China), the “06 Modern Decoration interior design media price” (Shenzhen-China)
and recently won the international competition for the construction of the Automobile Museum in Nanjing. His work was published in many international
