In 2008 Alexander McQueen commissioned photographer Nick
Waplington to document the creation of his Fall 2009 collection—all the way from inception to runway showing. Unfortunately, this Fall/Winter collection was to be the last that
McQueen would stage before his untimely death. This show,
which he titled The Horn of Plenty, found McQueen revisiting
his 15-year archive of work and recycling it into a new collection. In effect, it was his personal survey of his work to date.
The set was composed of broken mirrors and a giant trash heap
made up of all the sets from his previous shows; critics have
commented that this reflected McQueen’s feelings towards the
fashion system and how it pressures designers to be creative
geniuses while relegating each collection to the garbage bin of
history as soon as it’s sold. Waplington was given unprecedented access to McQueen and his staff, which included the current
Creative Director of the brand, Sarah Burton. Every step of the
creative process is documented in fascinating detail and readers receive a rare insight into the inner workings of McQueen’s
creative process. Most notably, McQueen himself placed the
book’s layout, picture by picture, on storyboards. The book was
ready for publication when McQueen died, then was put on
hold—until now. This substantial overview, with more than
120 photographs, is published just as McQueen edited it, commemorating the most personal of his collections. It includes an
essay by Susannah Frankel, Fashion Editor at Grazia (U.K.). Lee
Alexander McQueen (1969–2010), CBE, was one of the most important fashion designers of the last two decades. He was the
recipient of four British Designer of the Year awards, as well as
the CFDA’s International Designer of the Year award, 2003. In
2011, following his death, the Costume Institute in New York organized an enormously successful retrospective of his work at
the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Artist and photographer Nick
Waplington (born 1970) has published several monographs
including Living Room and The Wedding (Aperture), Safety in
Numbers (Booth Clibborn) and Truth of Consequence (Phaidon).
He lives in London and New York.

terry richardson's diary 2010
terry richardson
Since September 2009, the legendary fashion and portrait photographer Terry Richardson has been keeping an online photo
diary, posting a new picture every day. These posts typically contain informal portraits of whomever Richardson is shooting, or
whichever celebrity, artist or other public figure has dropped by
the studio—either for an actual sitting or perhaps to discuss
an upcoming project. Also posted to the site are examples of
Richardson’s street photography—snaps of street signs, buildings and sights around New York. As with Andy Warhol’s Time
Capsules, the accumulation of these candid, off-the-cuff photographs over the past three years has amounted to a social map
of the most interesting people on the fashion, art, political and
music scenes. Equal parts red carpet and intimate salon, the parade of people who enter Richardson’ studio is boggling in its
diversity. Amongst the thousands featured in Terry Richardson’s
Diary are Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Angela Westberry,
Frank Ocean, Richard Prince, Ryan McGinley, Donatella Versace
and Kate Moss. This tantalizing array of images also provides a
sense of how many of our media and pop culture images are
shaped by the creative energies of one talented individual. The
book is presented in a yearbook format to accentuate its origins
as a daily practice.
Known for his punk-rock sensibility and willingness to take a
fresh, edgy approach to portrait, fashion and documentary photography, Terry Richardson (born 1965) boasts a list of fashion
clients including Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Yves Saint Laurent.
His editorial work has been featured in publications ranging
from Rolling Stone to Vogue and Vice.

Madonna NYC 83 celebrates a moment in early 1980s New York
that has been increasingly reappraised in recent years for its fecund interactions and overlaps between the worlds of fashion,
art and music. Coming in the wake of punk and new wave, this
economically fragile period gave rise to a vital, edgy restlessness in the city, spawning adventurous personal styles and music that merged rap, funk, punk and pop. Madonna represented
this sensibility like no-one else. As this book makes amply clear,
from the start she was determined to define a look for herself,
and to carve out a space in the public imagination. After her
countless subsequent incarnations over the past three decades,
it is extraordinary to revisit these early years. Richard Corman
met Madonna by chance in 1983 and created a bountiful collection of images that constitute a multifaceted portrait of
the young Madonna and a New York that remains timelessly
inspiring and significant. Madonna NYC 83 is not only an homage to Madonna and the early 80s, but also a collage of exuberance, humor, fashion, sexiness and performance. The book is
designed by Yolanda Cuomo Design in New York.
As a portrait photographer, Richard Corman has worked with
subjects ranging from Nobel Peace Prize recipients (Nelson
Mandela, James Dewey Watson) to actors (Robert De Niro, Paul
Newman, Al Pacino), athletes (Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Muhammad Ali) and musicians of our time (Sting, Wynton Marsalis). A native New Yorker, Corman studied at Hunter College,
later spending two years apprenticing with Richard Avedon in
the early 1980s.

Hans Feurer has been a mainstay of fashion photography
since the late 1960s, but despite his influence, this legendary
photographer has had no books dedicated to his work—until
now. Feurer’s career has certainly been an illustrious, starstudded and influential one, and the models who were his
subjects, the designers he profiled and the leading publications
which featured his work comprise a rollcall of the highest
echelons of the fashion and magazine worlds. Feurer has shot
for Vogue, Nova, Elle and many more leading publications. One
of his most famous advertising campaigns was for Kenzo in
1983, which immortalized Iman and secured her status as an
iconic supermodel of the period. Before embarking on a career
in photography, Feurer worked as a graphic designer and
art director. Traces of these previous careers are detectable
throughout his work, evidenced by his careful compositions
and precise styling. Emmanuelle Alt, the editor of French Vogue,
has revived Feurer’s photographic career, and he is now widely
referenced by top photographers like Inez & Vinoodh. Designed
by Fabien Baron, and lavishly illustrated with 175 photographs,
this overview is a must-have for collectors of fashion
photography books. It presents the photographer’s most iconic
images from throughout the years, in a fascinating mélange of
fashion styles and trends.
Hans Feurer was born in Switzerland in 1939. After studying art
in Switzerland, he worked as a graphic designer, illustrator and
artistic director in London. In 1966, he traveled to Africa, during
which trip he decided to become a photographer. He returned
to London and began to compile a portfolio.

toiletpaper no. 8 & no. 9
maurizio cattelan
pierpaolo ferrari
Toiletpaper is an artists’ magazine created and produced by
Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, born out of a passion
or obsession they both cultivate: images. The magazine contains no text; each picture springs from an idea, often simple,
and through a complex orchestration of people it becomes
the materialization of the artists’ mental outbursts. Since the
first issue, in June 2010, Toilet Paper has created a world that
displays ambiguous narratives and a troubling imagination.
It combines the vernacular of commercial photography with
twisted narrative tableaux and surrealistic imagery. The result
is a publication that is itself a work of art which, through its accessible form as a magazine, and through its wide distribution,
challenges the limits of the contemporary art economy.

Published on the occasion of Scharf’s exhibition Kolors at the
Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, this publication presents the
artist’s new body of Pop-Surrealist work, which includes monochrome paintings and large-scale sculptures.
An in-depth photo essay explores Scharf’s world, while Jeffrey
Deitch’s text provides an insider’s view of the artist’s influence
in contemporary art. Scharf’s use of airbrush-like oil and acrylic
paint embodies the presence of street culture within contemporary art that he helped establish. In his sculptures, Scharf
makes use of his iconic imagery, freezing expressive cartoonlike faces in curvilinear three-dimensional reflective forms.
Scharf presents larger-than-life versions of three seminal characters from his pantheon of cartoon-like creatures.
Two sculptures, Squirt and Red Scary Guy, embody (respectively)
happiness and anger, whereas the Totem towers 12 feet to the
ceiling, stacking characters that showcase the range and interconnectedness of human emotions.

THE LOST PAINTINGS
TANER CEYLAN
Well-known for his provocative realist paintings, Taner Ceylan
began his Lost Paintings Series as a contemporary exploration
of the Orientalist gaze. Upsetting both Western and Eastern
master narratives, the Lost Paintings Series present Eastern figures in a fascinating navigation of history, power and narrative.
Esma Sultan, Ceylan’s depiction of an eighteenth-century Ottoman princess renowned for her cruel disposition, draws on the
empowering mythology of passionate, ruthless and assertive
womanhood that characterizes accounts of her life. In other
works, an Ottoman man gazes defiantly, cigarette in hand;
a pair of male lovers give a chaste farewell; a veiled woman
stands before Courbet’s L’Origine du Monde.
Ceylan assembles a cast of lost characters and voices that embody the many silenced by both Orientalist and official nationalist histories. The book is published on the occasion of Ceylan’s
exhibition The Lost Paintings Series at the Paul Kasmin Gallery
in New York.

HIP HOP

DaviD scHeinbaUm
Since its inception in the 1970s, hip hop music and the culture
surrounding it has become a hugely influential and popular
musical form in America and around the world. Its popularity
extends beyond the urban centers where it was born, and pervades and influences youth culture around the globe. However,
few artists have created serious and powerful photographs
that explore the breadth of the phenomenon. With this volume, David Scheinbaum has done just that. His portraits of
Erykah Badu, Chuck D., George Clinton, Common, Mos Def, DelTha Funkee Homosapien, Sage Francis, Professor Griff, KRS One,
Mike Relm, Tajai, Wu-Tang Clan and Yelawolf (among others)
approach hip hop as a positive cultural influence akin to the
youth movement of the 1960s. Scheinbaum’s photographs are
accompanied by essays by Gaye Theresa Johnson and Michael
Eric Dyson, an artist conversation with Frank Goodyear III and
an introduction by Brian Hardgroove of Public Enemy.

dog dance
brad elterman
Photographer Brad Elterman (born 1956) was at the center of
Los Angeles’ late 1970s and early 80s punk scene. He was backstage at the most legendary of concerts and present at the craziest parties. Among the stars Brad circulated with were Joan
Jett, Bob Dylan, Duran Duran, The Dead Boys, Blondie and the
Ramones; other celebrities from that era that crossed his lens
include Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton and John Travolta. Employing an immediate, snapshot-like style, Elterman’s photos
effortlessly convey the ambiance of a scene whose particular
type of gritty glamour has become increasingly influential in
recent years. From the platinum-tinted shag hairdos of teenage
glam rockers to the bare-breasted shenanigans of party girls,
this is a pre-AIDS and pre-rehab world, where the sun never
sets and the antics never end. Elterman saw it all, and his images faithfully record that world as he knew and experienced
it. Always drawn to young emerging talent, Brad asked rising
photographer Sandy Kim to trawl his archive and edit his photos into a book that would speak to today’s readership. The resulting publication is somewhere between a tabloid and a zine,
mixing rock and punk stars with mainstream legends. Olivier
Zahm, editor and founder of Purple, provides a foreword.

Peter Zimmermann (born 1956) borrows the techniques of old
masters such as Cranach and Dürer to create superimposed
layers of paint that yield a subtly translucent effect. Instead of
working in oils, Zimmermann applies an epoxy resin into which
acrylic pigments are randomly inserted. Lacing Action painting
and Color Field painting with a postmodern twist, Zimmermann’s abstract motifs seem to spring from more figurative
representations: he uses computer graphics and ‘dithering’ (a
technique that displays image without firm edges so as to give
a more colorful appearance) to deform images, texts and signs
from his own massive archive of images, evoking the atlases of
Gerhard Richter and Aby Warburg.
With different algorithms, he renders his source image unrecognizable, abstract. This publication celebrates Zimmermann’s
tactile paintings, which possess a luminosity and unique internal sensuality, directly issuing from his complex and innovative
technique.

Danish-born, New York City–based photographer Torkil Gudnason’s most recent works juxtapose two kinds of classic subject
matter in photography—botanical flora and fauna with female
nudes—in order to draw out abstract qualities of color and
contour. The photographer aims to present his audience with
a new light – to express the banal in a new way. Through this
eclectic mixture of classical subject matter, Gudnason has created new compositions that fall in line with the history of the
nude but grow and progress in fresh and expressive directions
through the use of symbol.

Potential Architecture explores artists Lucy + Jorge Orta’s recent
architectural endeavours that derive from their fascination
with cell biology and the process of differentiation. Through
drawings and sculpture, the artists conceptualize the communication process the human cell undertakes from its embryonic
state, and the infinite transformations that lead to defined
structural organisms. This new body of work draws from Lucy
+ Jorge Orta’s artistic practice, grounded in the universal concerns of community, shelter, migration and sustainable development. Potential Architecture is a powerful rejoinder to the
arbitrary boundaries that define art, architecture and design.
]
Mernet Larsen is the first monograph published on an American painter who has recently been rediscovered by the art
world as a significant voice in the “extensive, possibly global
conversation about how to portray modern, three-dimensional
life on two-dimensional surfaces” (Roberta Smith, New York
Times). Larsen’s paintings are a complete world and, in that regard, belong to the tradition that includes Giorgio de Chirico
and René Magritte. These worlds “reach toward” ours, even as
they pull us in. Larsen’s paintings are abstracted figurations
with Japanese- inspired perspective; tracing paper cutouts are
used all across the canvas, giving her works a constructed appeal. Their subjects include classrooms, coffee shops, vacation
spots and malls—gathering places—as well as parodies of religious events such as the Resurrection. This monograph gives a
full analysis of Larsen’s work of the past 30 years, with a focus
on her oeuvre since 2000.

Lia Chavez deepens her exploration of performance-generated
imagery in this recent photographic series, which uncovers
the stunning, surreal parallels between heavenly bodies and
earthly ones. Disorienting, unsettling, and strangely beautiful,
A Thousand Rainbows is a body of work which delves into
the material and spiritual essence of relationship through
the vehicle of improvisational dance. According to Chavez,
“From observing the physical universe, we know that form
is the manifestation of relationship between two forces. By
way of various contemporary dance strategies, I recreate this
dialectical drama - between myself and my model - within the
microcosm of my studio in order to probe objects hidden within
deep inner space.” Lia Chavez is an internationally exhibited
visual and performance artist who lives and works in New York
City. Focusing on themes of illumination, embodiment and
becoming, her practice incorporates a diverse range of media
with an emphasis on performance-generated photography. Her
work has been exhibited at the 52nd and 53rd Venice Biennale;
The Armory Show, New York; 10th Istanbul Biennial; Frieze Art
Fair, London; Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Atlanta;
and Affirmation Arts, New York.
]
The book aims to analyze, investigate and recognize two of the
contemporary artistic avant-garde through a multi-disciplinary
perspective. Writing first and then the Street Art were always
fed from every corner of reality, indiscriminately and free of any
“cultural debt”. Today more than ever, this investment can be
seen in architecture, urbanism, semiotics, sociology, anthropology and art scene. The difficulty of structuring an unanimous
critical profile lies mainly in the multiplicity and dynamism
which the two movements have drawn, and anticipated styles,
environments, attitudes and collective sensitivity. With over 40
years of history and street experience, Writing and Street Art
have had the merit to reproduce and criticize the entire global
system of visual communication.
The FRONTIER – The Line of Style project is ideally and historically connected to the show Arte di Frontiera. New York Graffiti
(Bologna, 1984). The most important figures of New York Graffiti-Art took part at this show and later they became very famous
artist as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf and
Futura 2000.
FRONTIER has been structured as an open and evolving platform based on two complementary phases: the first phase is
focused on the demonstration of the artistic value of Street Art
and Writing, displayed by the creation of 13 monumental walls
(Andreco, Cuoghi Corsello, Daim, Dado, Does, Eron, Etnik, Hitnes,
Honet, Joys, M-city, Phase2, Rusty); the second one is an international symposium for a theoretical and critical examination of
the two disciplines.

new book series
Damiani has launched a brand new
book series dedicated to artists who
are making their debut and who
would like to see their first book
published. FACTORY targets those
artists who move in the eclectic
world of the visual arts, where photography, contemporary art, urban
art, fashion and design coexist and
occasionally influence one another,
producing extraordinary forms of
artistic expression.
The aim of the series is to generate a
platform for discussion and debate
about the works of less well-known
artists and to bring their art to a
wider public by means of publishing
the book. FACTORY is thus a workshop in which books are devised and
developed, with the careful choice
of content and illustrations, graphic
format and quality printing that
distinguishes each and every one of
Damiani’s publications.

The series As if it should have been a quarry named for the
American poet Robert Frost’s 1954 poem Directive, was shot in
2011 in Iceland, a country in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean
positioned directly above a continental divide, making it the site
of frequent seismic and volcanic activity. Inspired by the story of
a small village there whose inhabitants dug themselves out of
the ash of a volcano that erupted without warning one January
morning in 1973, this body of work seeks to investigate the way
in which one reconciles oneself to impermanence through living with a continuity that suggests the infinite, and how a piece
of land can be a reflection of one’s countenance and vice versa,
like maps in conversational flux with one another. Through considering the passage of time in its relation to both physical and
emotional space is to allow for an innate metaphysical inquiry
to be explored—that of our own vulnerability and survival as
possibly found in the landscapes that grow us into being.

tom bianchi
Tom Bianchi was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated
from Northwestern University School of Law in 1970. He became a corporate
attorney, eventually working with Columbia Pictures in New York, painting and
drawing on weekends. His artwork came to the attention of Betty Parsons and
Carol Dreyfuss and they gave him his first one-man painting show in 1980. In
1984, he was given his first solo museum exhibition at the Spoleto Festival. After
Bianchi’s partner died of AIDS in 1988, he turned his focus to photography,
producing Out of the Studio, a candid portrayal of gay intimacy. Its success led
to producing numerous monographs, including On the Couch, Deep Sex and In
Defense of Beauty. In 1993 Tom co-founded CytoDyn, a biotech company with
the mission of developing new H.I.V./AIDS therapies. Tom was the Director of the
company responsible for funding the research through 2000.
Growing up in the 1950s, Tom Bianchi would head into downtown Chicago and
pick up 25-cent “physique” magazines at newsstands. In one such magazine,
he found a photograph of bodybuilder Glenn Bishop on Fire Island. “Fire Island
sounded exotic, perhaps a name made up by the photographer,” he recalls in
the preface to his latest monograph. “I had no idea it was a real place. Certainly,
I had no idea then that it was a place I would one day call home.” In 1970,
fresh out of law school, Bianchi began traveling to New York, and was invited
to spend a weekend at Fire Island Pines, where he encountered a community
of gay men. Using an SX-70 Polaroid camera, Bianchi documented his friends’
lives in the Pines, amassing an image archive of people, parties and private
moments. These images, published here for the first time, and accompanied by
Bianchi’s moving memoir of the era, record the birth and development of a new
culture. Soaked in sun, sex, camaraderie and reverie, Fire Island Pines conjures
a magical bygone era.
These photographs are at once formal and intimate for they
bring both rigor and tenderness to glimpses of real people.

Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, Brian Bowen Smith
became a professional photographer by a less traditional
route than most. While performing as a pro athlete, Bowen Smith happens to catch the eye of legendary photographer Herb Ritts, who invited him to appear in a Gap ad
campaign. Ritts subsequently became his mentor and
friend. Four years spent as Ritts’ assistant helped Bowen
Smith to establish his photographic style, and assignments for W, Vanity Fair, Esquire, Self and Interview soon
followed. Now living in Los Angeles, Bowen Smith has established himself as a veteran celebrity and beauty photographer, having worked with some of the best-known
TV, music and movie stars of today, among them Jennifer
Aniston, Cindy Crawford, Sheryl Crow, James Franco, Demi
Moore, among many others. Projects spans the gamut
of Bowen Smith’s work, from personal work to commissioned assignments done over the past ten years.

tabboo!
the art of stephen tashjian
Tabboo! The Art of Stephen Tashjian is the first monograph devoted to legendary underground painter, puppeteer, performer, whose work is inspired by the people,
places, and things populating his encompassing, bittersweet worldview. Chronicling the young artist’s arrival to the apocalyptic East Village of the ‘80s—where
he established his own brand of painterly mastery that
continues to today—Tabboo! The Art of Stephen Tashjian also presents a vast archive of flyers, snapshots, and
other ephemera that charts the development of the
drag performance scene from the Pyramid Club to
Wigstock, highlighting its intersection with popular
culture and the ‘80s art world. Tabboo!’s own writings,
along with essays by Jack Pierson, Elisabeth Kley, and
Lia Gangitano (editor), detail his life’s work and his collaborations with Mark Morrisroe, Pat Hearn, Howard
Stern, Nan Goldin, and Deee-Lite, among others; as well
as his inclusion in such landmark exhibitions. Not only
a prolific artist in his own right, his distinctive style had
a profound impact on leading cultural figures of his
generation, including Goldin, Morrisroe, Jack Pierson,
Steven Meisel, Steven Klein, David Armstrong, and Philip-Lorca di Corcia, whose portraits of Tabboo! are also
included in the publication.

gusmano cesaretti
Self-taught Italian photographer Gusmano Cesaretti
(born 1944) was one of the very first photographers
to document the street culture of East Los Angeles,
and The Thrill is Gone is a retrospective history of his
celebrated photographic work of the 1970s. Chapters
include “Bikers,” “East L.A. Diary,” “Folsom Prison,” “Maria Sabina,” “Muscle Beach” and “Street Writers,” along
with selected other iconic images from this important
time in the photographer’s creative history. As a boy
growing up in Italy, Cesaretti listened to jazz and rock
’n’ roll on the radio, and was drawn to the worlds of
Marlon Brando and James Dean in Hollywood movies.
But when he arrived in the U.S.—Cesaretti has lived in
Los Angeles since 1970—it was the raw energy, graffiti, culture and people of East L.A. that seduced him.
His early work—featured here in the chapter “East L.A.
Diary”—documents his immersion in the lowr ider
subculture of the Klique car club. Cesaretti credits his
poor English with allowing him to earn the trust of
local residents—he found it hard to understand their
graffiti on his own and had to ask for help. Independent curator Aaron Rose describes him as “one of the
few true artists documenting outlaw cultures in the
tradition of Robert Frank.”

The first visual history of Italian fashion and modernism covering the years of Fascism, this book is
an innovative tool, which clarifies fashion’s active
role in shaping modern aesthetics, as well as its
ambivalent status, between the spreading of international culture and the visions dictated by the
Fascist regime. The outcome of extensive research,
this volume explores and – for the first time – compares a wide variety of Italian sources, such as
womens’ glossies, fashion, film and gossip magazines; photo archives, exhibition and commercial
catalogues; books and magazines on tailoring and
dressmaking, design and architecture; corporate
and government journals. All materials are organised in a tight sequence of images and texts, charting rhythms, rituals and lifestyles of the typical “modern”
Italian day through four basic concepts: Measurements, Model, Brand and Parade. Each iconographic section
presents an array of texts, which highlight the key figures and moments in Italian fashion from the 1920s to the
early 1940s, as well as modernism’s crucial themes, and the relation between glamour and the Regime’s highly
choreographed life. Fashion at the Time of Fascism enjoys the valuable critical contribution of experts in fields
as varied as fashion, modernism and Italian culture.

maurizio cattelan | pierpaolo ferrari
Maurizio Cattelan’s newest body of work comprises startling
photographs done in collaboration with commercial photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari and published in Cattelan’s limited edition magazine Toilet Paper. Colliding commercial photography
with twisted narrative tableaux and surrealistic imagery these
images mark a new phase in Cattelan’s art production. This
important body of work is gathered here for the first time in
book form re-edited by Dennis Freedman in collaboration with
Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari.

L’architettura aziendale di Enrico Mattei
The redesign of Lincoln Center is one of the most
challenging and innovative civic projects in recent
urban history. Over the past eight years, Diller Scofidio
+ Renfro (DS+R), in close collaboration with FxFowle,
Beyer Blender Belle and Lincoln Center’s leadership,
has transformed the 50 year-old modernist citadel
into a porous and democratic campus. This visually
rich document is the first comprehensive book to
feature the extensive redevelopment in its entirety.
Lincoln Center Inside Out details DS+R’s interpretation
of the modernist project after several generations of
social and political change. Through a combination of
photographs, drawings, renderings, archival records
and texts, the book describes the innovative strategies
that have dissolved the public/private divide and
effectively turned the campus inside-out, extending
the spectacle of the performance halls into the Center’s
70 [ backlist
mute public spaces and surrounding streets. Conceived
as a cross between an art book, a scholarly record and
an architectural diary, this publication demonstrates
how the recent redesign both respects and challenges
preconceived notions about Lincoln Center and its
ongoing role as a cultural hub in an ever-changing
city. This unorthodox publication is comprised entirely
of gatefolds; a series of inside-out centerfolds where
the exterior pages of each spread feature large-format
photographs highlighting different parts of the campus.

Since 2004, the French artist JR has traveled the world
flyposting colossal black-and-white portraits of ordinary
citizens on the walls of city buildings. In May 2012, JR
collaborates with American artist José Parlá on the
latest iteration of The Wrinkles of the City: a huge mural
installation in Havana, undertaken for the Havana biennale,
for which JR and Parlá photographed and recorded 25 senior
citizens who had lived through the Cuban revolution,
creating portraits which Parlá, who is of Cuban descent,
interlaced with palimpsestic calligraphic writings and paintings. Parlá’s markings echo the distressed surfaces
of the walls he inscribes, and offer commentary on the lives of Cuba’s elders; together, JR and Parlá’s murals
marvelously animate a city whose walls are otherwise adorned only by images of its leaders. This volume features
the portraits, short biographies of their subjects and photographs of their mural collaborations painted around
Havana. a film documenting the project appears in 2013. based in Paris, JR exhibits freely in public sites in the
cities around world. His projects include Portraits of a Generation (2004–2006), Face2Face (2007) and Women Are
Heroes (2008). In 2011 he was awarded the TED prize.
José Parlá studied painting at the Savannah College of art and design in Georgia, and the New World School of the
arts in Miami, and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. a recent project is a special commission for the Brooklyn
Academy of Music.

A cultural icon who covered the streets of Hong Kong with his
graffiti for over 35 years, Tsang Tsou Choi (1921-2007) used a
brush and ink to proclaim himself The King of Kowloon—the
heir to an imaginary birthright that fueled a lifetime of artistic output. With his signature style, Tsang wrote himself into
the collective memory of a generation caught between British and Chinese rule. He left behind an oeuvre that includes
countless outdoor projects (the majority now extant only in
photographs), myriad works on paper, board and cloth, as well
as painted objects. In 1997, Tsang’s inclusion in the celebrated
traveling exhibition Cities on the Move gave him international
exposure within the art world, visibility reinforced by his inclusion in the 2003 Venice Biennale.
This milestone publication documents Tsang’s influential
practice and enduring legacy, revealing an urban artist, consummate outsider and self-styled emperor whose story is
much broader than the island he called home.
With over 100 reproductions, a forward by Hans-Ulrich Obrist,
critical essays by Hou Hanru, Ou Ning and others, interviews
and an annotated timeline of the artist’s life, The King of Kowloon is the first comprehensive survey of Tsang’s complex and
fascinating artistic output.

Nick Haymes first met Gabe Nevins on an editorial
assignment in the summer of 2007. Gabe had just
wrapped up his lead role in Gus Van Sant’s Paranoid
Park, in which he had played a teenage skateboarder
who accidentally kills a security guard. Gabe had never
acted prior to starring in the film; he had heard about
Van Sant’s casting call from a skateboard store and
initially auditioned as an extra. Meeting the teenager,
Haymes recalls: “Initially, Gabe was fairly shy, but it
quickly transpired that he had seen some of my skateboarding images online and an instant friendship was
struck. When the assignment was over, I approached
Gabe about the possibility of working on more photographs as there was something entirely
captivating about him and his energy.” Published in
an edition of 30 copies, this limited edition includes
a numbered and signed photograph by Nick Haymes
and original excerpts from Gabe’s notebooks.

This is a Gotham City reconstructed from memory,
often infused with a glassy light and an atmosphere
sometimes glowing with vivid colors, other times
wrapped in muted hues. It is a sentimental journey
in the big apple of our imagination, from the East
river bridges to the Empire State Building, from the
Guggenheim Museum to Canal Street, from Times
Square to the old docks of Brooklyn, each shimmering
image looking like the backdrop for a movie or comic
book.

"One could say that Detroit has become America’s
version of an open city. It’s been left undefended
against an onslaught of scrappers, vandals, and
the forces of nature. It’s a city of hundreds, if not
thousands, of empty homes, apartment buildings,
factories, libraries, hospitals, schools, and churches.
All are abandoned and most are unguarded, barely
salvageable, and slated for demolition that gets
delayed year after year".

Greg Gorman put together a collection of more than
200 portraits of young men, some of whom became
famous. An album that reveals the evergreen fascination of youth, when time has yet to obfuscate ingenuousness, melancholic gentleness and, above all, the
beauty that characterises life’s âge d’or. The photographer writes in the introduction: “My photographs have
often captured the sensuality that goes hand in hand
with vulnerability. When the subject has an unawareness of the camera, he reveals an inward truth, that
maybe he doesn’t even realize is coming forth in the
pictures”. From Tom Cruise to Kevin Costner, from Leon78 [ backlist
through Nevada, where they soon find themselves
stranded with a broken-down car on the side of a
desolate road. Shot over seven days on black-andwhite Kodak Tri-X film, the images were scanned for
the book from 16 x 20 inch hand-developed prints and
never retouched. The book also features an epilogue by
fashion and culture critic Lesley M.M. Blume.
ardo di Caprio to Brad Pitt and on to Patrick Dempsey,
Charlie Sexton, Rupert Everett, Johnny Depp and many
others, In their Youth is a manifesto of the agonising,
sensual and “Wildean” promise of beauty. This limited

of Christopher Atkins (17 x 13 inches), signed by both Atkins and Gorman, and comes housed in a linen cloth

This signed and numbered limited edition of Holy
Works, the culmination of Andres Serrano's reinterpretation of Christian iconography, comes in a cloth
box and includes a print. Serrano's intention with
his newest works is to renew the genre of sacred
portraiture: "Rather than destroy sacred icons," says
the artist, "I reinvent and reinforce them." Serrano's
subjects for this series are selected from among his
friends and acquaintances, emphasizing (like Caravaggio before him) the ordinariness of human features. This volume is Serrano's major statement of
his religious and artistic belief.
