Lighting Fires and Bringing Division
The Gospel reading this weekend sounds harsh. Jesus
is asking His followers to make a choice. The fundamental choice is LOVE. Does God love you? Jesus’
teaching is telling us that God does love us. Maybe
we do not believe. Maybe it takes us more time in life
to put things together enough to understand how much
God is loving us.
When we reach the under-standing that God is loving
us, then we face the daily choices of doing what God
is asking us to do, loving God and loving
neighbor. That is where the division is going to enter
into our decisions. Our love isn’t to be limited by human intervention. Our love is to match the love that
God has for us.
Last week we celebrated the feast of St. John Vianney,
a parish priest who preach the same homily for 21
years. When asked when he was going to change the
homily, he said, “When you begin to live it.”
This is a very political year. People are trying to set
fires under us to move us to vote for candidates they
support. Division is rampart in the nation. It seems
there are lies, damn lies and political speeches. And
we do have to make choices.
Jesus challenges us to make the choices in love. He
asks us to love as God loves. The Church teaches us
to protect the poor and the defenseless. In love, we
become their voices. When we choose in love, we
vote for those who will protect them. Jesus is counting upon us to pray and to act.

La lectura del evangelio de este fin de semana suena muy
dura. Jesús está pidiendo a sus seguidores a hacer una elección. La opción fundamental es el AMOR. ¿Te ama Dios?
La enseñanza de Jesús nos está diciendo que Dios nos ama.
Quizás no creemos. Quizás nos lleve más tiempo en la vida
para poner cosas juntos lo suficiente como para comprender
cuánto Dios nos ama.
Cuando lleguemos al entendimiento que Dios nos ama, entonces nos enfrentamos a las opciones diarias de hacer lo que
Dios nos pide que hagamos, amar a Dios y amar al prójimo.
Ahí es donde la división va a entrar en nuestras decisiones.
Nuestro amor no está limitada por la intervención humana.
Nuestro amor es equiparar el amor que Dios tiene por nosotros.
La semana pasada celebramos la fiesta de San Juan Vianney,
un sacerdote parroquial que predico la misma homilía por 21
años. Cuando se le preguntó cuándo iba a cambiar la homilía, dijo, "Cuando ustedes comienzen a vivirlo".
Este es un año político. Personas están tratando de establecer
los incendios en nosotros para que pasemos a votar por los
candidatos que ellos apoyan. División es baluarte de la nación. Parece que hay mentiras, mentiras podridas y discursos
políticos. Y tenemos que tomar decisiones.
Jesús nos desafía a tomar las decisiones en el amor. Él nos
pide amar como Dios ama. La Iglesia nos enseña a proteger a
los pobres y los indefensos. En el amor, nos convertimos en
sus voces. Cuando elegimos en amor, podemos votar por
aquellos que les servirá de protección. Jesús está contando
con nosotros para orar y actuar.

Marriage certificate and need a new one from the office
you will incur this charge. Thank you!
