#218. Peace in society cannot be understood as
pacification or the mere absence of violence resulting from
the domination of one part of society over others. Nor does
true peace act as a pretext for justifying a social structure
which silences or appeases the poor, so that the more affluent can placidly
support their lifestyle while others have to make do as they can. Demands
involving the distribution of wealth, concern for the poor and human rights
cannot be suppressed under the guise of creating a consensus on paper or a
transient peace for a contented minority. The dignity of the human person and
the common good rank higher than the comfort of those who refuse to
renounce their privileges. When these values are threatened, a prophetic voice
must be raised.

Lenten Homework
Let me suggest that you spend time during this forthcoming Lent answering the
question, who is Jesus Christ? Take out your bibles and read St. Mark’s Gospel
straight through. It’s the shortest of the four Gospels. Read it straight through
and then take out a pad of paper and read St. Mark’s Gospel once again, only
this time slowly. Every time you come up with an answer that identifies who
Jesus is and what He was about, write down you answers on that pad of paper.
When you are finished spend some time reflecting on your answers. Your
vision of Jesus Christ will be remarkably improved.

Spring Retreat Extreme Home Makeover
The OLPH Youth Group will be hosting their Spring Retreat
Extreme Home Makeover in March. We are looking for a parish
family that could use assistance in "sprucing up" their
home! This could mean a painting of the exterior of a
home, the painting of rooms inside the home or even
yard work that needs to be done. We are looking for a
family that needs either financial assistance for this
project to be done or perhaps is elderly and can't complete the
project themselves. Please contact Norma Rothschadl, Youth

someone that could benefit from this service project.
Youth Leader Camp for High School Teens
Every year the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Youth Group takes
teens to "Youth Leader", a leadership camp sponsored by the
Archdiocese of Atlanta. The dates for the camp this year will be
July 13 - 17th and it will be held at Berry College in Rome, GA.
The camp is designed to equip young people with the necessary
tools to become effective leaders in our Youth Ministry program,
parish and greater community. The cost to attend the camp is
$275.00 but the parish will pay $100 of the total cost. We are
investing in your Leadership!!! If you would like to attend Youth
Leader, you must commit to the following: You will be committed
to regularly attending Wednesday night meetings through your
Senior year, assume a leadership role at meetings, and attend all
scheduled functions with the exception of functions that conflict
with school or extracurricular activities. These include retreats,
socials, service projects and fundraisers to name a few. If you are
heavily involved in sports or a job, and don't think you could
commit to a majority of events, then this is not for you. We need
leaders that are present to lead. This opportunity is only open to
teens that are currently in the FRESHMAN or SOPHOMORE
class. If you are interested, please write a letter expressing interest
and email to [email protected]. Please include the following:
*Why do you want to attend? Why do you think you should be
chosen to attend?
*What are some activities, clubs, sports in which you participate?
*What do you hope to gain from attending?
Letters should be submitted by no later than February 11th. Please

Spaghetti Dinner & Bingo Fundraiser
around the Corner!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 28th
for the Annual OLPH Youth Group Spaghetti
Dinner & BINGO fundraiser which will be held
after the 5 p.m. mass. This annual fundraiser helps
fund the summer mission trip for the OLPH Youth Group. The cost
to attend is $7 per adult, $3 for children 12 and under or $25 per
family. Admission includes a spaghetti dinner, salad, roll, dessert,
drink and BINGO card. We have amazing prizes including gas,
cards, gift certificates to local merchants and much more. In
addition, we will be conducting a gift basket raffle in conjunction
with the dinner. Raffle tickets will be sold at all mass the weekend
of Feb. 21st. Please be generous and support our teens in their
mission ministry!

Our Campaign ends on June 30, 2015.
Your contributions will directly help us in renovating the Carroll
Center Kitchen, replacing the roof over the Carroll Center and
repairing the roof over the administrative building. You may mail
in donations, drop them off at the office, or put them in the
collection basket. Please put all donations in an envelope and
clearly mark on the outside that it is for the “ Capital Campaign.”

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls
The CRS Rice Bowl is a "faith-in-action" program that will help our
parish families experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity
with people in need around the world. Rice bowls are located at the
end of the pews and families are encouraged to take one home and
offer daily alms. Also included is a calendar of daily Lenten
activities that can be done around the dinner table. What you give
up for Lent changes lives! Rice Bowls will be collected at the end
of the Lenten season
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus are serving their annual Valentine's
Dinner on Saturday, February 14th following the 5:00pm Mass.
The dinner menu will be pork loin roast, mashed potatoes,
applesauce, dinner rolls, and dessert. . Tickets at the door will be
$15 per person / $11 per child (12 and under) / $50 per family.
Annual Lenten Prayer and Reflection Groups
“Living the Eucharist”
“Living the Eucharist,” is a parish based program designed to
help revitalize parish life and spirituality through a more
profound experience of Sunday Mass. It helps the entire parish
adults, teens, and families grow in their Catholic faith and live
more fully as disciples of Jesus. Groups meet once a week during
Lent at a place and time designated by each group’s leader. If you
were in a group last year, we simply ask you to contact your
group leader to sign up. If you are new to the program and want
to join a group, Please contact Alan Talley at
[email protected]. Group Leaders are asked to stop by the
sacristy after mass to collect the books for their group.
Doughnuts & Coffee
Doughnuts, coffee, and hot chocolate are available
following the 8:30am Mass. All donation‘s received
will go towards Bereavement Ministry. Please come
join us in the Carroll Center. This is a self-sustaining
Ministry so all donations and support are appreciated.

Después de leerlo completo una vez, léalo
una segunda vez, pero poco a poco y en su
cuaderno anote cada vez que San Marcos nos ayude a contestar la
pregunta ¿Quién es Jesucristo?
Una vez termine de leerlo y anotar, utilice lo que escribió como
reflexión y oración Cuaresmal. ¡Le garantizo que cambiará su idea

EXHORTACIÓN APOSTÓLICA

FRANCISCO #218. La paz social no puede entenderse como un
irenismo o como una mera ausencia de violencia lograda por la
imposición de un sector sobre los otros. También sería una
falsa paz aquella que sirva como excusa para justificar una
organización social que silencie o tranquilice a los más
pobres, de manera que aquellos que gozan de los mayores
beneficios puedan sostener su estilo de vida sin sobresaltos
mientras los demás sobreviven como pueden. Las reivindicaciones sociales, que tienen que ver con la distribución del
ingreso, la inclusión social de los pobres y los derechos humanos, no pueden ser sofocadas con el pretexto de construir
un consenso de escritorio o una efímera paz para una minoría feliz. La dignidad de la persona humana y el bien común
están por encima de la tranquilidad de algunos que no
quieren renunciar a sus privilegios. Cuando estos valores se
ven afectados, es necesaria una voz profética.

ORACION COMUNITARIA-Padre creador, que
nos amas y nos llamas cada día a conformar nuestra vida en
tu Hijo, nuestro hermano y maestro. Danos riesgo y libertad
para asumir el proyecto de tu Hijo para la construcción de
una sociedad justa e igualitaria en donde cada persona
encuentre su propio lugar y valía, en la que la ley no sea
utilizada para beneficio de unos cuantos privilegiados sino
para defender la Vida en todas sus expresiones,
especialmente aquella que se encuentra en situación de
peligro o desprotección. Tú que vives y amas por los siglos
de los siglos. Amén.
PARA LA REVISION DE VIDA-¿Que aspectos de
mi vida han quedado por fuera de mi opción de fe? ¿En mis
actitudes cotidianas de qué manera excluyo y juzgo a las
demás personas?
¿Qué retos plantea a mi vida personal el seguimiento de
Jesús y su proyecto?
¿Soy de los que discrimino con facilidad a las personas
cuando me entero de que tienen alguna enfermedad
estigmatizada, o alguna orientación sexual que desapruebo,
o alguna determinada ideología política que considero
inaceptable?
PALABRA DE DIOS-En la tradición judía (primera lectura) la
enfermedad era interpretada como una maldición
divina, un castigo, una consecuencia del pecado de
la persona enferma –¡o de su familia!–. Porque
entonces se la consideraba contagiosa, la lepra
común estaba regulada por una rígida normativa
que excluía a la persona afectada de la vida social. (Ha durado muchos
siglos la falsa creencia de que la lepra fuese tan fácilmente
contagiable). El enfermo de lepra era un muerto en vida, y lo peor era
que la enfermedad era considerada normalmente incurable. Los
sacerdotes tenían la función de examinar las llagas del enfermo, y en
caso de diagnosticarlas efectivamente como síntomas de la presencia
de lepra, la persona era declarada «impura», con lo que resultaba
condenada a salir de la población, a comenzar a vivir en soledad, a
malvivir indignamente, gritando por los caminos «¡impuro, impuro!»,
para evitar encontrarse con personas sanas a las que poder contagiar.
En realidad, todo el sistema normativo religioso generaba una
permanente exclusión de personas por motivos de sexo, salud,
condición social, edad, religión, nacionalidad.
Este hombre, seguramente cansado de su condición, se acerca a Jesús y
se arrodilla, poniendo en él toda su confianza: «si quieres, puedes
limpiarme». Jesús, se compadece y le toca, rompiendo no sólo una
costumbre, sino una norma religiosa sumamente rígida. Jesús se salta
la ley que margina y que excluye a la persona. Jesús pone a la persona
por encima de la ley, incluso de la ley religiosa. La religión de Jesús
no está contra la vida, sino, al contrario: pone en el centro la vida de
las personas. La vida y las personas por encima de la ley, no al revés.
