Our office staff will help you find an open date and time for a Mass, or available candles for dedications. On Love. This weekend, the mood of our celebration is melancholic. To the disciples, Jesus was saying goodbye. He said, “I will be with you in a little while longer.” Jesus hinted on his leaving soon. After his suffering, death and resurrection, Jesus will ascend to the Father. By Jesus’ concern for his disciples, he affirmed what he previously left them: the commandment to love one another. He is not just leaving the disciples for nothing. Apart from promising to send an advocate, he also left them a commandment. Love one another as I have loved you. Love is the focal point of a Christian community. Through our love for each other, we make known to all humanity that we are Christians. At Mass, when Christians are gathered together, the act of love that Jesus offered on the cross is relived. We share that love with each other by partaking in communion his most precious Body and Blood. And then we are commissioned to share the love we experienced at Mass to the world through our thoughts, words and actions. o0o On what love means. Love means not withholding the truth. Jesus did not fear to tell the truth even when it means people choosing to leave. In fact, those who cannot accept his teaching about his body and blood as true food and drink left him and went back to their former ways of life. He challenged his disciples to also leave if they cannot accept the truth. When one truly loves, the truth is not arbitrary. I think, anyone who waters down the truth does not truly love the other but himself/herself. He/She intentionally withholds the truth to preserve the benefits of good image. Jesus did not lead his flock by simply making his image look good. He taught them the truth and the truth they believed in changed them. If I want to preserve my “good” image and maintain to be nice, you will not be led to the things you should enjoy about being Catholics. I honestly tell you, I will hold myself responsible to seek pardon from God if I deny from you true doctrine, authentic Tradition. Let all those who are hurt by the changes in our parish be opened to the light of truth. o0o Truth demands charity, not mere tolerance. Issues in regards to abortion, homosexuality, divorce and remarriage and the like are very difficult subjects. Often we refuse to talk about them because we hate to see the other get hurt. We substitute charity with tolerance because the society demands from us fair treatment to those who do not want to know the truth. Christians are not called to do tolerance. We are called to love. And being called to love, we are called to speak the truth even when it means getting the other hurt. In love, we must speak the truth, think the truth, and act the truth and we will be able to set ourselves and the other free. o0o Congratulations to all confirmandees. Let the Holy Spirit strengthen you and guide you always in your faith journey. You are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Use these gifts well and be fruitful so that your Christian witnessing will be able to make your life and the life of others enjoy the benefits of loving Christ. Strive to live life according to your Christian calling. Do not forget the formation you have earned. And always pray and call the Holy Spirit to inspire you and defend you when times are not easy. Enamorado. Estamos llamados a amar. Snacks for Packs (S4P) This is a food program administered by Fish and approved by Greater Albany Public Schools (GAPS). It provides packs of nutritious, child-friendly “snacks” to students attending a GAPS school, and who are identified as experiencing food insecurity, to consume on the weekends while away from the schools’ breakfast and lunch programs. Fish would love if the parishioners of St. Mary’s would contribute granola bars and cereal bars. There will be a Fish collection barrel near the back entrance off the playground parking lot to put them in. This will run over the next couple weekends, so if you can’t help out today, please bring some in any time up thru May 8th. Thank you. Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, Wife, Mother, Doctor, Italy (1922-1962)-April 28 A daily communicant from her youth, St. Gianna was greatly devoted to the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady. She found happiness in visiting Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and praying the Rosary daily. St. Gianna was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, doctor and leader in Catholic Action, sharing her faith with youth. She chose to give her life, during her last pregnancy that her unborn baby might live. Saint Gianna, pray for a culture of life in our world! Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is available in the chapel 24 hours every day. For adoration outside of the 24hour regular Thursday schedule, call the office for instructions and to enlist. Everyone is welcome. Spend as much or as little time as you can. Thank you for offering our Lord this special hour. Expect God's blessing, and give Him thanks. On Friday, May 27th, any Corvallis Dutch Bros. will donate $1 for each drink purchased to the Pastoral Counseling Center! This is an easy way to contribute to a wonderful cause - that is, providing competent, compassionate counseling to anyone who needs it! Look for coupons in the vestibule. Holy Family on the Move The next to receive the statue of the Holy Family will be Catherine Mumper. RACHEL’S VINEYARD For some, it may seem like their abortion is an event totally left in the past, yet vast evidence shows that abortion has long-lasting, life-altering affects in the lives of women and men who have experienced it. To feel, deal, and heal from abortion(s), attend a life-changing Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat. Muchas Gracias y recuerden que esta es su casa su Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro (St.Maria) Catholic Home Missions Appeal Many dioceses right here in the United States do not have enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve their parishes. These dioceses are known as home missions. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will take place this weekend in the second collection, and supports these dioceses by funding essential ministries, including seminary education and lay ministry training. Please be generous in this appeal and share your resources to strengthen the Church at home. For the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed: Marriage Enrichment Presentation… Presentation by Martin Gay, MS, LPC, NCC St. Mary’s Parish Gathering Space 706 Ellsworth SW, Albany 7:00 – 8:30pm Wednesday, June 1, 2016, Relationship Skills for Couples: Sexuality. In this workshop we’ll examine the strong association between sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction, and demonstrate the role of effective communication in fostering sexual satisfaction. We’ll also discuss how differences in sexual desire can be managed, and how changing life circumstances, such as stress and having children, can impact on sexuality. We’ll describe the nature of common sexual problems. We’ll describe and challenge some common myths that may lead to unrealistic sexual expectations. There is no cost, but please call 541-926-1449 to register ahead. Thank you. Helping Those in Need As Catholics, we need to be open to helping people. We love to see our parishioners so willing to lend aid where needed. However, the City asks that panhandling not be encouraged. Instead, please donate to specific funds at the church, or to the agencies (Soup Kitchen, FISH, Helping Hands, St. Vincent de Paul, etc) that are resources for those in need. This way the people who truly need assistance will receive it, rather than those who are taking advantage of good-hearted Christians. From St. Mary’s Office - Thank you. Tetzel’s Celebration June 5th beginning at 11am Tetzel will be celebrating a Mass of Thanksgiving for becoming a priest on Sunday, June 5th at 11am. Immediately following there will be a reception in the Gathering Space and the Gym. There are many groups who are jumping in to plan, cook, set-up and clean-up, but we do still need help with meeting costs. This is going to be a very big event, so help with the costs would be highly valued. Please fill out the information below and put it in an envelope with cash or check (made payable to St. Mary’s), then drop the envelope in the collection plate or bring it by the office. If you wish to use a credit card, please call Joni at the office 541-926-1449. Thank you so much for helping make this a terrific day of Thanksgiving for Father Tetzel! If you are interested in helping with the event, please call the office and speak with Marty. 541-926-1449 Notice of Upcoming Big Events & Crowded Parking Just to give everyone a heads-up about crowded seating and parking conditions for the following dates & events: May 1st - First Eucharist Masses will be at 11 am & 1 pm with receptions after each June 5th - Graduation Mass will be at the 8:30 am Mass with a reception following, then Tetzel will have his Thanksgiving Mass as a new priest at 11 am, with a LARGE reception to follow. On both of these days, participants can expect snug seating and packed parking. With the receptions between, there won’t be the usual clearing of cars between Masses. We recommend those who have the option of attending Saturday evening Mass instead of the ones mentioned above may not only be more comfortable, but would also lighten the load for participants in the big events. Anyone who will be attending the big events - maybe you can work out carpooling? Or - just expect to park a ways out. We hope to block off more parking for those who need to park closer for health reasons. Please respect any cones or signs that are posted. Thank you for your understanding.
