Baptisms for children take place in Spanish on the first and third
Saturday and third Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm and in English
on the second Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. Parents must register the child at the Rectory at least one month in advance.

HEALTH FAIR
Today, Sunday, November 6th, from 9:30 am
to 2 pm in Our Lady of Mercy School.
Sponsored by the Montefiore Hospital and the
Bronx Community Health Network.
There will be glucose and blood pressure
screenings, as well as HIV tests in private, and
through its program “Project Heal” there will be
information about Police safety, food pantries
and other programs. Please take advantage of
this information and practical Health Fair!
MONTH OF ALL SOULS
We continue to pray for all souls whose names have
been placed on the Altar. If you wish us to offer the
Mass for your loved ones during the month of November, please write their names on an All Souls
Envelope and return it to us. May they rest in peace!
Dance Easy
We will be having a mini fund raiser on Wednesday,
November 16th at 1:15 pm in the room next to the
chapel. Suggested donation $8.00 for a Dance
Easy Class (45 minutes). It will be a fun way to
move to a wide variety of music (from Classic Oldies to Latin Rhythms) using easy-to-follow dance
movements. Please wear comfortable shoes
or preferably, sneakers. Suitable for all age
groups. If interested, please register at the office.
NEW TR@NSL@TION OF THE M@SS
As many of you may already know, beginning with
the First Sunday of Advent, November 27th, a new
translation of the English Mass prayers will be in
placed for the English speaking world. There will be
some editions to certain parts of the responses we
say on Sundays, not the rite of the Mass itself. We
will be learning about that as the day approaches.
Why the change? The Church has an ancient saying:
Lex orandi, lex credendi, meaning the law prayed is
the law believed. When the Second Vatican Council
directed that the Mass be translated into the vernacular, a committee was set up to do this daunting task.
They made a noble effort and for the past 40 years
that translation has served us. Blessed John Paul II
in 2000 asked that the translation be revisited and be
more faithful to the Latin text of the Third Typical
Edition of the Novus Ordo (The New Rite of the
Mass). For ten years scholars and theologians have
labored over this difficult endeavor. What we now
have may seem awkward and strange at first but in
short time we will find it to express our Catholic faith
more clearly and accurately.

HYPERTENSION WORKSHOP
Montefiore Hospital will conduct its 2nd day Hypertension (blood pressure) workshop on Nov. 12th,
from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. This informative workshop
seeks to help you in taking the necessary steps for a
healthy life, with a combination of nutrition and exercise and avoid the risk factors of hypertension that
leads to heart problems. Its free! Please register.
FAMILY CATECHESIS
Family catechesis for parents of children in Holy
Communion this Sundays Nov. 6th , for parents with
children on 1st year Holy Communion, and next Sunday, Nov. 13th. For parents with children on 2nd year
Holy Communion. after 10 am Mass in the School
auditorium. All parents must come!
THANKSGIVING DAY MASS
This year Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on Thursday, November 24th. As in the past, on this day only
one Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in the
Church. Come and join us to give thanks to God for
His many blessings!
School of Our Lady of Mercy
Our first Halloween Party was a success.
We want to thank all the parents who came
out on a stormy night and had an enjoyable night
with their children. Thank you to all who helped and
gave to the event.
School Pictures! Our children will be taking the
school pictures on Thursday, Nov. 10th.
Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
Children will be collecting canned or non-perishable
food for the poor.

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS
PRAYERS
Our new English translation of the Mass will mean
that some of our prayers and responses will be
changing slightly! For example!:
•We will begin to use a more accurate translation of
for the Latin phrase “Et cum spiritu tuo,” which is
used four times in the Mass as the people’s response to a greeting by the priest. Instead of saying
“And also with you,” we will say: “And with your
spirit”
•During the Penitential Act, we will say: “Through
my fault” three times, and strike our breast as a
sign of real sorrow for our sins.
•For the Lamb of God. As the priest holds up the Sacred Eucharist for adoration, he now will say:
“Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes
away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called
to the supper of the Lamb.” People will respond:
“Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under
my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be
healed.” This is a more accurate translation of the
Scripture passage!
•The Gloria and the Creed will have a more complete and precise translation of what appears in the
Latin texts.
•At the consecration, the words of Jesus about shedding his blood, “for you and for many,” have been
restored to that translation!

Trigésimo segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
ESPERAR LO INESPERADO
Si alguna vez se te pasó por la mente que a Jesús le
faltaba un poco del sentido del humor, el Evangelio de
hoy destierra esa noción. La parábola de Jesús sobre las
cinco jóvenes precavidas y las cinco jóvenes descuidadas es sumamente chistosa. Las circunstancias de la
parabola sin duda resultaban familiares a los que escuchaban Jesús, como lo son para nosotros. Las bodas
nunca, nunca comienzan a la hora. Siempre hay un
retraso. Botones que se caen al último minuto. Flores
que se marchitan. Vehículos llenos de invitados atascados en el tráfico. Solistas que contraen laringitis. ¡Novias,
novios o sacerdotes que llegan tarde! Así que la única
manera razonable de encarar una boda es con buen
sentido del humor, conscientes de que algo va a salir
mal, y, cuando eso suceda, sonreír. Jesús cuenta esta
historia chistosa para alentarnos a que seamos vigilantes, sí; a estar preparados, sí. Pero no nos la cuenta
para que nos amarguemos y nos ensombrezcamos. Los
apesadumbrados tiemblan, titubean, pierden de vista su
lugar y propósito, y se quedan dormidos. Los festivos
saben que sucederá lo inesperado –más que seguro —
así que están despiertos en su puesto y listos para cumplir su propósito en el acto.

MISA DE LA VIRGEN DE LA DIVINA PROVIDENCIA
La Misa anual en honor a la Virgen de la Divina
Providencia, Patrona de Puerto Rico, se llevara
a cabo en nuestra parroquia el sábado 19 a las
7:00 pm, seguido de un compartir. La Misa en
la Catedral de San Patricio será el domingo 20
