Here are the Lenten Regula ons for
Fas ng & Food Abs nence
The dual disciplines of fas ng and food abs nence have a long history in the
Catholic Church. Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self-denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we
create certain emp ness. In this way, freed from all distrac ons, we are able to
hear and respond to God’s con nued call to conversion and holiness.
Fas ng is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On days of fas ng,
one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain
strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they
should not equal another full meal. Ea ng between meals is not permi ed, but liquids are allowed.
Abs nence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years
of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good
Friday are days of abs nence.
Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regula ons due to ill health
or other serious reasons, they are urged to prac ce other forms of self-denial
that are suitable to their condi on.
Fas ng, almsgiving, and prayer are the three tradi onal disciplines of Lent. The
faithful and catechumens should undertake these prac ces seriously in a spirit
of penance and of prepara on for bap sm or of renewal of bap sm at Easter.

¡¡Wow!! ¿Qué es lo que te impide diariamente pasar por
lo menos diez minutos en comunicación, hablando y escuchando a Dios? Yo no estoy hablando de hacer tus oraciones por 10 minutos o más, sino que poner a lado diez minutos diariamente para realmente hablar y escuchar a
Dios: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.
Estas son las Reglas de la Cuaresma para el
Ayuno y la Abs nencia
Esta doble disciplina de Ayuno y abs nencia de comida ene una larga historia en la Iglesia Católica. Desde los comienzos de la iglesia, el propósito detrás
de la costumbre del negarse a uno mismo no es un cas go sino una forma de
simplificar nuestros es los de vida para que podamos crear cierto vacío. De
esta forma, libres de toda distracción, seremos capaces de oír y responder a la
llamada con nua de Dios a la conversión y san dad.
El Ayuno se debe observar el Miércoles de Ceniza y el Viernes Santo por
todos los Católicos entre las edades de 18 a 59 años (inclusive). Durante los días de ayuno, solo se permite una comida normal y dos más
pequeñas, suficientes para mantenerse con fuerzas, pero estas dos
juntas no deben igualar a una comida normal. Comer entre comidas
no está permi do, pero los líquidos sí.
La Abs nencia de carne debe ser observada por todos los Católicos de 14
años de edad en adelante. El Miércoles de Ceniza, todos los viernes
de la Cuaresma y el Viernes Santo son días de abs nencia.
Nota: Si una persona, debido a su salud o a otras razones serias no pueden
observar estas reglas, deben prac car otras formas de negarse a sí mismos y
que les permita su condición.
Ayuno, limosnas, y oración son tres disciplinas tradicionales de Cuaresma. Los
fieles y catecúmenos deben tomar seriamente estas prác cas en un espíritu
de penitencia y preparación para el bau smo o la renovación de las promesas
del bau smo en Pascua de Resurrección.
