both Dave and Karl in their new roles. Pursuant to the ByLaws of both SLPID and the SLA, Karl will need to resign

Five New Board Members Elected
Scott Rajeski
Scott is currently the VP and CFO of Latham Pool
Products and has worked there since August of 2012. In
addition to Finance, he has responsibility for Global Supply Chain and Information Technology for the company.
Prior to that Scott was the Director of Finance for GLOBALFOUNDRIES and was the first finance person hired in
Malta, NY. He was a critical member of the start up leadership team for FAB 8. Prior to that Scott was the CFO of
the Americas for Momentive Performance Materials for
3years. He has also held various senior financial leadership
positions in GE for 15 years.

Scott is currently the Chairman of the board for the
Chamber of Southern Saratoga County and previously held
the position of Treasurer for 2013 & 2014. He is also an
active member on the board for WMHT.
Scott has been a key supporter and fund raiser for The
Chamber Angels, NYS Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes
Research Fund, The American Cancer Society, and
WMHT over the years.
Scott holds an MBA from Clarkson University and a
bachelor’s degree in Math and Business Economics from
SUNY Potsdam. He is also a graduate of GE’s EFLP and
FMP Finance Management training programs and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
Scott is married to Cindy and they have two children,
Tyler age 22 who works for GE as an FMP and Zachary age
20 who works for GLOBALFOUNDRIES. They currently
reside in Clifton Park, NY.
Steven C. Sullivan
I am the Owner/Managing Director, Power Communications: a nationally-recognized public relations firm specializing in energy matters.
I live at 573 Route 9P in Saratoga--between Snake Hill
and Panzas--in a beautiful cliff-side home built in the late
1990s by John Van Horn II looking westward every evening at some of the most breathtaking views I've encountered in all my travels. I grew up on the Connecticut shore
summers with my grandparents and extended family where
we fished, lobstered, swam, boated and did just about anything else you can do around water.
My past 13 years living on Saratoga Lake is a great place
to share a similar experience with my kids, family and the
countless new friends I've been fortunate to make within
the Saratoga Lake community.
In my capacity owning and operating a specialized public relations / branding firm, I frequently counsel boards of
directors on public affairs and other issues. I've experienced well-run boards and less-than-well-run boards. My
view is if you take the time and energy and resources to
operate an organization (in this case, SLA), then that organization should produce something tangible to show for
it (membership value, services, infrastructure development,
etc.). Much of my work is in public outreach for permitting
major ($1B) energy facilities across North America. My job
is largely about interacting with people.
I look forward to contributing my skills and positive
momentum to the SLA board in the interest of all who
live, play and work on Saratoga Lake.
Judith Banks
It will be a privilege to have the opportunity to serve on
the Saratoga Lake Association Board.
Saratoga Lake has always been very special to me. Growing up I spent a lot of time on the lake where my Grandmother owned a camp. My family and I would spend our
summers enjoying the lake and all that the surrounding area
offered. I was fortunate to be able to share this experience
with my own children too.
I have been a volunteer in the Saratoga region for several
years. I currently volunteer at the Yaddo Rose Garden, (over
five years); the Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau,
(over two years); and the Saratoga Lake Association Events
Committee, (for the last six months). I also collaborated
with other volunteers for events at Brown’s Beach, Family
Day and just recently, the Grand Opening held on May 30th
of this year.
For the last fifteen years, I have worked full time at an
Insurance company where I participate in several curricular
activities. I have been involved in United Way representing
my company as both an apprentice and co-leader for their
annual campaign. I also serve as the event coordinator for
my department.
I believe that my past accomplishments and current volunteer work in the Saratoga region has prepared me to be a
member of the board for the Saratoga Lake Association.

Thomas Bonds
I am a retired engineer and have lived in Riley Cove
for 8 summers. I worked for General Electric at various
US locations and retired from Lockheed Martin. I have
been boating at the lake, on and off, for 20 years and also
like fishing. I have no pressing agenda for being on the
SLA board, but I have a sense of civic service and free
time.
My wife and I have led or joined 8 mission trips during
the past 20 years, mostly to Latin American countries. For
6 years I was chairman of the board of the Albany United
Methodist Society, an inner-city charitable organization. I
was a soccer coach in Clifton Park for many years and a
scoutmaster. In my younger days, I was president of a
Jaycee Chapter.

James Flynn
If it ain’t nailed down!!!
Jim is currently Management Advisor and Consultant
for Flynn Consulting in Saratoga Springs. His past work
experience includes 16 years with the Franciscan Health
Partnership in New York City. He served as vice president
of finance, executive vice president, CFO and president
and CEO.
Previous to that he worked at St. Clare’s Hospital,
Walquist & Renodin, CPAs in Albany and the NYS Department of Audit and Control, Division of Field Audit in
Albany.
Jim graduated from Siena College and is a certified public accountant. He is also a commercial pilot with instrument rating.
Jim has a variety of memberships and has served on
several civic committees.
He is a welcome addition to the Board and brings his
talents and experience to the Saratoga Lake Association.
It’s that time of year when a rash of thefts take place
near and around the lake. We have heard from
several people about missing items. One person in particular wrote that two kayaks were
taken from his Saratoga Lake Road home and
he wrote as a warning to all of us. Another incident involved someone going into a car in
broad daylight and stealing $600 and credit
cards.
Keep your possessions safe. Use chains if you have to in
order to secure boats, small motors (a particular favorite),
boating apparatus. Tuck your floatables away. Some
neighborhoods might want to consider having surveillance
cameras installed. It can be done economically and with a
warning sign about the cameras, it may stop these thieves.
Remember, keeping vigilant in your neighborhood protects not only you but each other. If you see something out
of the ordinary, call the Sheriff’s Department at 885-6761
and report it.
Summer parties, events, guests, boat rides,
trips, fishing, concerts, swimming and splashing,
learning to paddle board, are just some of the
activities that we enjoy on our wonderful lake.

Drinking Water Update
The latest update from Saratoga Glen Hollow Water Company
“Any potential customers that have paid $2290 will be
the first to receive water and the water has to be adjacent
to their property. We know many customers from Snake
Hill to Brown Road that want water. However, there is
no water main on Route 9P which is Phase 2a and 2b.
We have an agreement with Victor Gush (proposed development on Jib Drive, behind St. Isaac Jogue’s Chapel)
to install a section of that phase which would create an
opportunity for more hookups.”
We realize this has been a great frustration for many people for
years. Perhaps its time to get the towns involved. Call your
Town Supervisor or members of the Planning Boards and express
your views.

News from the Saratoga Rowing Club
Following our successful spring season in 2015 which officially
concluded with the middle school year end party at Anne's Washington Inn, we at SRA have been bursting at the seams with activity.
Last month we held our first official Free Learn-To-Row day
and were overwhelmed by the response from adults and children
alike. We are halfway through the Learn-to-Row season with both
the children and adults and we are currently making preparations
for our second annual "Kindersculls" camp - can you believe that
4-8 year olds can learn to row!
On the other end of the age scale... We also arranged for our
first corporate rowing event coming this August and are excited to
share with an entire company the lessons that rowing has to offer!
Keeping our calendar full of events, and thanks especially
to the Saratoga Lake Protection and Improvement District
(SLPID) and the Adirondack Watershed Institute (AWI) at Paul
Smith's College, SRA is looking forward to hosting the first ever Water Shield Workshop here on Saratoga Lake on July 21. We
are at the same time thrilled to announce that the "Water Shield
Workshop" has filled both of its time slots to capacity. It is so
encouraging to see how invested the SRA community is in this
resource we all share.
And, speaking of investment in the health of Saratoga Lake
and Fish Creek... If you thought last year’s weed pull at Brown’s
Beach was exciting... This weekend we spent some time battling
the water chestnuts on Fish Creek. Thanks to Lorraine Skibo for
helping to pull all the rowing organizations together for a few
hours of harvesting. The Saratoga Springs Rowing Club, Skidmore Community Rowing, and Saratoga Rowing Association all
had representatives carefully maneuvering those menacing seeds
while loading canoes and rowboats with the invasive
species.
With all that activity I would hate to overlook one of the most
exciting things beginning this summer. As we have mentioned
in prior newsletters, we are hard at work fundraising for the renovation of the old Lakeside Market in a new regatta headquarters
and training center. This building will provide a home base for
the regattas while also serving to meet the growing demands of
the organization... (Those 80 middle school kids in the picture at
Anne's Washington Inn are a testament to the growing need for
training space!) We are thrilled to be just weeks away from the
beginning of this renovation, and SO thankful to our many supporters and to Bonacio Construction for their extreme generosity.
We still have a good bit of fundraising to do before the project completes, and, to that end, are also pleased to announce an
awesome opportunity for the community to participate. Thanks
to Langan Audi, we will be raffling off a brand new Audi A3
Cabriolet! Tickets will be only $100 and because we are maxing
ticket sales at 1000, your chances of winning are great (and if you
don't win, you still helped renovate the abandoned Lakeside
Market). On November 1st of this year, at the Head of the Fish
Regatta, the winning ticket will be drawn and the lucky winner
will be ready to take on the Saratoga winter with Audi Quattro
all wheel drive. Check out additional details for the raffle HERE.
Finally, we have been working recently on an informational
page for our website on which we can share important information with our neighbors regarding the activity on the
creek. This is a work in progress and will continue to be updated
as we approach the regatta season. We hope all the many users
of the creek will find this information helpful.

Saratoga Horse Movie Series Planned to
Benefit New York State Recreation
and Park Society
In celebration of both the Spa City’s Centennial and
The New York State Recreation and Park Society’s
75th Anniversary, NYSRPS is hosting the first of its kind
outdoor horse movie series Monday evenings in August in
Saratoga’s most popular parks.
The 4-week series kicks off with the showing of Black
Stallion at Brown’s Beach August 3rd, followed by Secretariat and Sea Biscuit at Congress Park August 10th and 17th
respectively, and ends at SPA State Park / Victoria Pool
with National Velvet on August 24th. All movies begin at
dark and are free of charge to the public.
The New York State Recreation and Park Society, Inc.
is a 501-C (3) not-for-profit organization that assists park,
recreation and leisure service professionals with support
services to provide valuable programming for local park,
recreation, therapeutic and community centers across NY.

Fireworks Safety
It has become a reality that
several forms of fireworks have become
legal in Saratoga County and in several
surrounding counties. Already we
have had one instance where spent
fireworks were disposed of in the back
of a pickup truck, the truck burned
and the same happened to a home in
Washington County when spent fireworks thought to be out were disposed of in a trash can in
the garage. For some reason we have been lead to believe
that the fireworks that have been approved are in some way
totally harmless —-they are not.
Whenever you mix heat, light and gun powder there can
be negative effects. The fire service is also concerned about
large quantities of this material being stored in one location
and what’s even worse is we don’t know where it’s being
stored during the periods where it can’t be sold. Quite
frankly the law was written without much consideration for
the ability for enforcement. The adverse effects are already
starting to be debated in some communities.
Remember, fireworks can be dangerous, causing serious
burn and eye injuries. You can help us prevent fireworksrelated injuries and deaths. How? By working with a national, state or local organization where you live to promote fireworks safety in your community.
Follow these safety tips when using fireworks:
 Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
 Avoid buying fireworks that are packaged in brown paper because this is often a sign that the fireworks were
made for professional displays and that they could pose
a danger to consumers.
 Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Parents don't realize that young children suffer injuries
from sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about
2,000 degrees - hot enough to melt some metals.
 Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Back up to a safe
distance immediately after lighting fireworks.
 Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not
ignited fully.
 Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case
of fire or other mishap.
 Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly.
 Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in
metal or glass containers.


After fireworks complete their burning, douse the
spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose
before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.
Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them.
In New York State the following are permitted if a local law
is passed by the individual county:
 Ground-based or hand held sparkling devices including
cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, and wood sparklers/dipped sticks; party poppers, snappers. Saratoga
county limits the sale in Chapter 477 of the Laws of
2014 to the time periods from June 1st through July
5th and December 26th through January 2 each calendar year, and to people eighteen years of age or older.
Here are the death and injury statistics reported nationwide
in 2014 with a reminder that in some areas of the country
all fireworks are still illegal.
 CPSC staff received reports of 11 non-occupational
fireworks-related deaths occurring in 10 incidents during 2014. Four victims died in house fires caused by
fireworks, including several where the person(s) killed
may not have been using fireworks. Seven victims died
from direct impacts of fireworks. Reporting of fireworks-related deaths for 2014 is not complete, and the
number of deaths in 2014 should be considered a minimum.
 Fireworks were involved in an estimated 10,500 injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments
during calendar year 2014.
 An estimated 7,000 fireworks-related injuries (or 67
percent of the total estimated fireworks-related injuries
in 2014) were treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments during the 1-month special study period between June 20, 2014 and July 20, 2014.
What is unfortunate is that many counties passed fireworks laws based on the amount of sales tax revenues that
they might collect. Priceless!

The Arvin Hart Volunteer Fire Company would like to thank all
of those who sent donations during our annual fund drive. If you
still have an envelope sitting around with nothing in it, we would
appreciate your donation. Normally out of all the letters we send
out the return rate is 14%. The fire company members who serve
their community are all volunteers, they receive no pay for what
they do, the funds you donate maintain the operation of the fire
company as well as support other community activities sponsored
by the fire company. We thank you for your support and for your
encouragement.

1. Swimming or bathing of any kind is not allowed.
2. Alcoholic beverages or are not allowed.
3. Visitors are responsible for removing any and all supplies, containers, garbage, etc.
4. Motorized boats of any kind cannot be docked at the park.
5. No littering or dumping of any kind.
6. No glass containers.
7. No amplification of music.
8. No vehicles beyond designated parking areas.
9. No posting of signs or flyers, except by permit or express authorization by the city.
10. No panhandling or solicitation.
12. No fires of any kind are allowed, except in designated BBQ/grilling areas.
13. Public performances are not allowed, except by permit or express authorization by the city..
14. Vending is not allowed, except by permit or express authorization by the city.

Ever wonder what the law and fine in New York State
is regarding dumping? From N.Y. ADC.LAW, Section 16
-119: “It shall be unlawful for any person, his or her
agent, employee or any person under his or her control to
suffer or permit any dirt, sand, gravel, clay, loam, stone,
rocks, rubble, building rubbish, sawdust, shaving or trade
or household waste, refuse, ashes, manure, garbage, rubbish or debris of any sort or any other organic or inorganic material or thing or other offensive matter being transported in a dump truck or other vehicle to be dumped,
deposited of in or upon any street, park, public place or
other area whether publicly or privately owned. Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be
liable to arrest and upon conviction thereof shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by
a fine of not less than one thousand five hundred dollars
nor more than ten thousand dollars or by imprisonment
not to exceed ninety days or by both such fine and imprisonment.” It makes us wonder if these dumpers are
aware of how it would be cheaper if they just went to a
recycling center.

Friday, July 24 (10:30 a.m.): Nature Craft Day. Create a
nature craft.
Tuesday, July 28 (11 a.m.): A Taste of History. Savor a
taste of history while sipping from several park natural
mineral springs. During this one hour tour, patrons will
experience some of the most outstanding architecture,
geology and natural history in Saratoga Springs.
Wednesday, July 29 (10 a.m.): Preschool Naturalists is a
nature class designed for children ages 3 to 5. This hour
long program will focus on using all five senses to explore a certain aspect of the outdoor world. Children
will also have a nature related story and craft.
Thursday, July 30 (2 p.m.):
Wildflower Walk. Take a walk
around the park while learning
about the medicinal qualities,
legends, and folklores surrounding the wildflowers that grow
there.
Friday, July 31 (8:30 p.m.): Full
Moon Walk. An evening hike to
observe the full moon and other
wonders of the night sky, as well
as listen to the nights sounds of
the park.

Evening History Strolls
Meet by the flagpole at the
visitor center parking lot to join Park Volunteer Dick
Farrell on two guided evening strolls exploring the Battles of Saratoga. Caravan to various locations, then walk
up to 1 mile over uneven ground. Please bring water
and insect repellent, and wear sturdy shoes. Cancelled
if raining.
