Hello!
For the fourth year in a row, we attended the wine fest in Elkin this past Saturday.
Though the weather was MUCH too hot, it was a terrific festival as usual.
Enjoyed the Natty Boh Duo again, and - surprisingly, as I am not a beach music fan - really enjoyed the Mixed Emotions!
I appreciate that they played a wider variety of music this year. From our vantage point under the
shade tree, it certainly appeared that the crowd had a great time!
I'd like to see you do more to promote wine bottle recycling in the years to come... perhaps by placing empty case boxes near the trash cans?
Thanks!
Lora Sheridan, Winston-Salem
Matthew and I want to send you our congratulations on a GREAT festival. I heard that so many
people came you ran out of glasses. So what was the number? We had very good sales. Seems you even
have "pull with the Man Upstairs" because the weather was beautiful....
A job well done,
Ann Mayberry, Brushy Mountain Winery
Good job this weekend. Brandon McCann, Cascade Highlands
Congratulations on another successful Wine Festival!
Ercel Carter, Wachovia Market President, Yadkin/Surry Counties
Hello again,
I just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks for having Natty Boh Duo play the wine fest yesterday! We had a great time and would love to do it again anytime. Thanks again

After
Teresa Smith Ray- Yadkin Valley Chamber
of Commerce 2010 Web Smalling
Corporate Citizen Award Winner.
The Chamber’s Web Smalling Corporate
Citizen Award recognizes a Chamber
member who makes a difference in the
community by using his or her time, talents and compassion to positively impact
the lives of others. Teresa Smith Ray, owner
of Harry’s Place gladly and unselfishly gives
of her time. She is an Elkin High School
graduate, former member of the Elkin
Jaycees, is an Elder at Elkin Presbyterian
Church and has actively served on the
Board for the Ark. She is responsible for the
creation of its annual rummage sale and
Shake, Raffle and Roll was one her brain
child’s. She is passionate about Downtown
Elkin and the Reeves Theater Restoration
project. And it’s more common than not
to see a Harry’s Place gift certificate as a
door prize, at any raffle or as a silent auction item. She even raises money in the
restaurant for individuals in need.
The Chamber’s Beautification Award recognizes a chamber member who has excelled in
beautification of their property, building or the community. This year’s award winner, Tim
Gentry owner of Slightly Askew turned his hobby into a business. He took the vacant residential property located at 913 N. Bridge Street and gave it a much needed facelift. This
property, built in the 60’s, was certainly in need of some tender loving care. This renovation certainly added a touch of color to N. Bridge St. in Elkin.

Hampton Inn here
wins national award
Hampton Inn of Jonesville/Elkin employees celebrate being voted top in the nation two years in a row with the Connie
Award. Front: Jackie Pardue, Second row: Stephaie Duncan, Betty Childress, Teresa Steele, Betty Carter, Third row: General Manager, Debra Clark, Sherry Holcomb, Loretta Fletcher, Diand Day, Shirl Cox, Katrina Winston and Glenn Owings.

Staff Writer, Elkin Tribune
The Hampton Inn of Jonesville/Elkin has
been awarded the Connie Award, for the
second year in a row. The award, named
after company founder, Conrad N. Hilton,
is given to the top eight hotels across the nation, in a 1,800 world-wide global property
group of hotels, based on high product and
service scores, top ratings on quality inspections, and as being judged by guests of the
hotel.
"It's an honor to be the number one top
rated hotel in the nation with the Hilton
family hotels," Debra Clark, general manager said. "It's a great place to work."
Clark started with the hotel chain as the
front desk attendant and worked to assistant
manager, then general manager in 1999.
"This is the second year in a row we've received number one and we're very proud of
our customer service," Clark said. "I think
we pride ourselves on friendly accommodating service to our guests. Staying here
feels like coming home to a safe, secure environment.
"If a traveler gets off the highway, we like
to take care of them," she said. "We try to
meet their needs and hope to have them as
return guests. Our customer service is excellent."
The Hampton Inn is owned by Riverview
Holding LLC, with owners, Ben Mastin,
Fred Eidson and Bob Greene.
The hotel in Jonesville has 64 rooms, three
of which are one-bedroom suites. Handicap
accessible rooms are available for those who
require special facilities. A state of the art fitness room as well as an outside pool are also
part of the amenities.
The hotel offers a continental breakfast
with hot foods to each guest, fresh coffee all
during the day along with freshly baked
cookies, fruit, and hot popcorn popped
every afternoon.
The hotel does not allow pets and is 100 percent non-smoking.
"We have a manager's reception every
Tuesday," Clark said. "Staying at the Hampton Inn of Jonesville/Elkin is an experience.
We are beginning to become a destination
because of the large number of vineyards
and wineries in the area that tourist are interested in visiting.
"We have a high return visit business with

Vaughan-Bassett investing
$1 million to expand plant
GALAX, Va. — Bedroom manufacturer
Vaughan-Bassett has announced a $1 million, 16,000-square-foot expansion of its
main plant here.
The company broke ground in May and
plans to have the work completed by December. The added space will be used to
store bed rails and mirrors and for the staging of shipments from the adjoining shipping facility.
In May, it completed the first two phases of
the project, relocating its two bed production lines from the machine room to the
pack room. It also moved two offices and a
restroom to open up a forklift aisle that will
allow the movement of parts from the machine room to the bed production lines.
A phase to be completed in July will involve reorganizing machinery, using about
8,000 square feet opened up with the relocation of the bed lines.
Vaughan-Bassett said the project is necessary due to the success of the $3 million
Weinig Rough End System it installed at the
Galax plant last July, which improves the
company's efficiency in cutting lumber.
"We have been able to cut significantly more
lumber and we are generating many more
parts with our new system," President and
CEO Wyatt Bassett said in a statement.
He added that the latest expansion will add
jobs in the coming months and years, but
did not specify how many.
Doug Bassett, executive vice president and
chief operating officer, said the company
hopes to add jobs at the same pace it has
grown over the past year. He said the manufacturer has added 60 jobs in Galax in the
past 15 months and brought back 50 workers since it reopened its Elkin, N.C., plant in
September.
Vaughan-Bassett now employs more than
700 at the two facilities.

Elkin is very lucky to have the services of a
young woman from Pennsylvannia as a Family Health Physician, employed by Blue Ridge
Medical Group.,380 Parkwood Medical Park ,
Elkin, NC. Dr. Cristin Trecroce describes herself as having three roles in her life, a mother,
a wife and a physician, and believes her motto
in life is about balance. She has a strong desire
to convey that balance to her patients in their
daily lives for health purposes.
She really feels a strong connection to her patients, and she states she enjoys spending time
with her patients as much as she does her family! Her desire is that her patients will become
like family to her, and that she can teach her
patients, just as she does her children, about
making healthy life- choices. This is truly a refreshing trend in medicine, and Elkin is fortunate to have someone to offer these
approaches in medicine!
Dr. Trecroce is entering her second year of
practice here in Elkin, and relocated here from
Philadelphia, PA. She is a native of Pennsylvania, and graduated from Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
in 2000. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine, and see patients age 12 and over. She has
a special interest in preventive medicine, and
offer bariatric or weight loss counseling.
She is married, and has two young daugh-
ters. Her husband , Doug Stewart, is a Physicians Assitant in the ER at HCMH in Elkin so
he is also contributing to the health of Elkin
residents with his extensive ER experience.
Their relocation from Pennsylvania to Elkin
was a loss for PA and a gain for NC!
In talking with Dr Trecroce you will find
she enjoys hobbies of exercise, learning new
things and cooking. She enjoys watching the
Food Network and she admires the work of
the Naked Chef. Her interest in this chef is
that he is pioneering a change to school's food
programs for kids. Dr. Trecroce is trying to
give kids better tools to have a healthier future,
considering the epidemic of childhood obesity.
She offers counseling for children and parents
to take a better look at how day to day decisions affect their overall health. She states her
role is to encourage realistic changes for daily
life to combat weight and health obstacles.
Elkin is very lucky to have such an enthusiatic, caring and compassionate young
physician. Her interest in good health and
making correct lifestyle choices brings a
fresh and current approach to medical care
in the community! We are grateful she can
balance being a wife , mother and physician
to bring these talents to our town!

Clark started with the hotel chain as the

manager, then general manager in 1999.

Fred Eidson and Bob Greene.
The hotel in Jonesville has 64 rooms, three
of which are one-bedroom suites. Handicap

require special facilities. A state of the art fitness room as well as an outside pool are also
part of the amenities.
The hotel offers a continental breakfast
with hot foods to each guest, fresh coffee all

cookies, fruit, and hot popcorn popped
every afternoon.
The hotel does not allow pets and is 100 percent non-smoking.
"We have a manager's reception every
Tuesday," Clark said. "Staying at the Hampton Inn of Jonesville/Elkin is an experience.
We are beginning to become a destination
because of the large number of vineyards
and wineries in the area that tourist are interested in visiting.
"We have a high return visit business with
our customers and are proud that they enjoy

The Chamber’s Beautification Award recognizes a chamber member who has excelled in
beautification of their property, building or the community. This year’s award winner, Tim
Gentry owner of Slightly Askew turned his hobby into a business. He took the vacant residential property located at 913 N. Bridge Street and gave it a much needed facelift. This
property, built in the 60’s, was certainly in need of some tender loving care. This renovation certainly added a touch of color to N. Bridge St. in Elkin.

Just got back to WV from the wine festival..........WOW!!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderfully glorious time
we had. The site was GREAT, the orchestration was smooth and the food was outstanding (21 and

Thanks!

Matthew and I want to send you our congratulations on a GREAT festival. I heard that so many

Five years ago the Yadkin Valley Chamber of
Commerce created an award to recognize superior
work in promoting the Yadkin Valley. This award
honors Rebel Good, longtime editor and publisher
of The Tribune former editor of The Messenger,
and currently editor of Yadkin Valley Wine Country, whose mission is to deliver maximum exposure
of the Yadkin Valley for areas wineries and other
tourism relate businesses to Internet users.
This year’s winner, Brent Cornelison, warrants
this award for many of his endeavors that have advanced tourism for the Yadkin Valley and for Elkin.
Some of these successes were job related; others
were from his passion to grow the tourism indus-
try in the Yadkin Valley. He was instrumental in
the Elkin Greenway project, in bringing recognition to the Overmountain Victory trail in our area
with the creation of the wayside adjacent to the
Elkin Municipal Park and convincing the USTA
professional tour to come to Elkin. He served two
years as chairman of the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival committee. Mr. Cornelison has held several positions in the North Carolina Parks and Recreation
Association has a degree in Parks and Recreation
administration and is an elder at the Elkin Presbyterian Church.
Coming soon,

whimsical painted tables, chairs and rockers; paper art from Habitat
books, hand-made tiles decorating a re-fashioned table, and more

The Hampton Inn of Jonesville/Elkin has
been awarded the Connie Award, for the
second year in a row. The award, named
after company founder, Conrad N. Hilton,
is given to the top eight hotels across the nation, in a 1,800 world-wide global property
group of hotels, based on high product and
service scores, top ratings on quality inspections, and as being judged by guests of the
hotel.
"It's an honor to be the number one top
rated hotel in the nation with the Hilton
family hotels," Debra Clark, general manager said. "It's a great place to work."
Clark started with the hotel chain as the
front desk attendant and worked to assistant
manager, then general manager in 1999.
"This is the second year in a row we've received number one and we're very proud of
our customer service," Clark said. "I think
we pride ourselves on friendly accommodating service to our guests. Staying here
feels like coming home to a safe, secure environment.
"If a traveler gets off the highway, we like
to take care of them," she said. "We try to
meet their needs and hope to have them as
return guests. Our customer service is excellent."
The Hampton Inn is owned by Riverview
Holding LLC, with owners, Ben Mastin,
Fred Eidson and Bob Greene.
The hotel in Jonesville has 64 rooms, three
of which are one-bedroom suites. Handicap
accessible rooms are available for those who
require special facilities. A state of the art fitness room as well as an outside pool are also
part of the amenities.
The hotel offers a continental breakfast
with hot foods to each guest, fresh coffee all
during the day along with freshly baked
cookies, fruit, and hot popcorn popped
every afternoon.
The hotel does not allow pets and is 100 percent non-smoking.
"We have a manager's reception every
Tuesday," Clark said. "Staying at the Hampton Inn of Jonesville/Elkin is an experience.
We are beginning to become a destination
because of the large number of vineyards
and wineries in the area that tourist are interested in visiting.
"We have a high return visit business with
our customers and are proud that they enjoy
staying with us. We see old friends when our
travelers return to stay a night or two with
us along their way."
The Hampton Inn also provides wireless
Internet services for its guests as well as a
business center where computer terminals
are located.
Michael Wilson, of the Fairfield Inn, is the
regional manager of four of the company's
hotels. The Fairfield ranked number five in
the nation.
"We are honored by the Connie Award and
look forward to being in the running for future awards," Clark said.

A Fine Balance
Elkin is very lucky to have the services of a
young woman from Pennsylvannia as a Family Health Physician, employed by Blue Ridge
Medical Group.,380 Parkwood Medical Park ,
Elkin, NC. Dr. Cristin Trecroce describes herself as having three roles in her life, a mother,
a wife and a physician, and believes her motto
in life is about balance. She has a strong desire
to convey that balance to her patients in their
daily lives for health purposes.
She really feels a strong connection to her patients, and she states she enjoys spending time
with her patients as much as she does her family! Her desire is that her patients will become
like family to her, and that she can teach her
patients, just as she does her children, about
making healthy life- choices. This is truly a refreshing trend in medicine, and Elkin is fortunate to have someone to offer these
approaches in medicine!
Dr. Trecroce is entering her second year of
practice here in Elkin, and relocated here from
Philadelphia, PA. She is a native of Pennsylvania, and graduated from Philadelphia College
of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
in 2000. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine, and see patients age 12 and over. She has
a special interest in preventive medicine, and
offer bariatric or weight loss counseling.
She is married, and has two young daugh-
ters. Her husband , Doug Stewart, is a Physicians Assitant in the ER at HCMH in Elkin so
he is also contributing to the health of Elkin
residents with his extensive ER experience.
Their relocation from Pennsylvania to Elkin
was a loss for PA and a gain for NC!
In talking with Dr Trecroce you will find
she enjoys hobbies of exercise, learning new
things and cooking. She enjoys watching the
Food Network and she admires the work of
the Naked Chef. Her interest in this chef is
that he is pioneering a change to school's food
programs for kids. Dr. Trecroce is trying to
give kids better tools to have a healthier future,
considering the epidemic of childhood obesity.
She offers counseling for children and parents
to take a better look at how day to day decisions affect their overall health. She states her
role is to encourage realistic changes for daily
life to combat weight and health obstacles.
Elkin is very lucky to have such an enthusiatic, caring and compassionate young
physician. Her interest in good health and
making correct lifestyle choices brings a
fresh and current approach to medical care
in the community! We are grateful she can
balance being a wife , mother and physician
to bring these talents to our town!

of Commerce 2010 Web Smalling
Corporate Citizen Award Winner.
The Chamber’s Web Smalling Corporate
Citizen Award recognizes a Chamber
member who makes a difference in the
community by using his or her time, talents and compassion to positively impact
the lives of others. Teresa Smith Ray, owner
of Harry’s Place gladly and unselfishly gives
of her time. She is an Elkin High School
graduate, former member of the Elkin
Jaycees, is an Elder at Elkin Presbyterian
Church and has actively served on the
Board for the Ark. She is responsible for the
creation of its annual rummage sale and
Shake, Raffle and Roll was one her brain
child’s. She is passionate about Downtown
Elkin and the Reeves Theater Restoration
project. And it’s more common than not
to see a Harry’s Place gift certificate as a
door prize, at any raffle or as a silent auction item. She even raises money in the
restaurant for individuals in need.
The Chamber’s Beautification Award recognizes a chamber member who has excelled in
beautification of their property, building or the community. This year’s award winner, Tim
Gentry owner of Slightly Askew turned his hobby into a business. He took the vacant residential property located at 913 N. Bridge Street and gave it a much needed facelift. This
property, built in the 60’s, was certainly in need of some tender loving care. This renovation certainly added a touch of color to N. Bridge St. in Elkin.
