Christmas at the Mulberry Inn Christmas was a time of New Beginnings for many of the residents at the Mulberry Inn Home for Women and Children. Most of the children had very few toys and the prospects for Christmas presents seemed very slim. However the local community stepped up and overwhelmingly blessed these children with gifts. First the children went to “Shop with a Cop” sponsored by Lake County Sherriff's Department. They were able to pick a few toys from Wal-Mart accompanied by one of Lake County’s finest. Most of the children were more impressed with their “cop” than they were with the toys! At our open House in December, “Santa” came to visit and each child was able to whisper their wish list to him. A local Brownie troop donated a decorated Christmas tree to the Women’s home. Several individuals had called our office and asked for the children’s wish list and had bought presents for each child. Most of these children had never had a Christmas. They never had wrapped presents under the tree with their name on them. It was like God delivering a miracle to them. We at New Beginnings are very grateful to those organizations and individuals that gave so generously to our children. They are very appreciative and so are their mothers and the staff. We were able to see the joy on their faces on Christmas morning that your gifts provided. Our hope is that you are blessed overwhelmingly for your generosity. Each Saturday numerous volunteers believe this verse and come to serve. Since we started in May 2010, 1100 people have come and seen the warmth and love being given. Some come because they haven’t eaten in a few days as they have no food at home. Some come because they have few warm clothes or few clothes for their children. And some just come because they are lonely and want to talk to someone who can give them hope. Surprisingly, nearly 80% of those that come are widows and single moms. If you would like to serve we welcome your participation. We are at the Winn Dixie parking lot every Saturday 11 to 1 PM . Please call Sandy Williams at (352) 404-6946 or email her for more information at [email protected]. We are also looking for people to host a food drive so we can continue to give bags of groceries to those in need. In God’s Love, The Women’s Missionary group from Minneola Alliance Church gave a “shower” for the women and children at the Mulberry Inn. The ladies prepared some refreshments including a beautifully decorated cake. They brought gifts to fill out our needs list: sheets, towels, socks, toiletries, books and crayons for the children. Linda Smith gave a presentation on New Beginnings from the inception to today and explained our mission and goals. Ways to get involved and volunteer were discussed. 207 S Hwy 27 Minneola, FL 34715 (352) 241-8500 Store Hours M-F 10-5 Sat 9-4 Steve Smith, Executive Director “Give a man a fish he eats for a day.
