The International Agricultural Exhibition - "Agro-Mashov" 2011, is a mirror of Israeli agriculture and its
associated industries.
Precisely in the current year, 2011, which has been a year of natural disasters - a year of global crisis in food
prices - I find great importance in presenting the achievements we have reached, exposing the bright side –
and there is a lot to take pride in.
Despite the water shortage and problems of foreign workers, which torments us day and night, we have a lot
to contribute to the global world and I am convinced that we know how to do this!
To all the guests of the 21st “Agro-Mashov annual international agricultural conference and exhibition – I wish
you productive discussions and an interesting and fruitful exhibition!

These days the world is experiencing riots and
instability in many countries. One of the main
reasons for this is the increase in the price of
food, resulting from the global food crisis
World experts predict this is just the beginning of a process, which reflects a growing shortage of food worldwide,
which is the result of several factors:
A. Dramatic increase in world population - in the past 70 years the world population has increased from 2 to 7
billion people.
B. Dramatic increase in consumption of animal products (due to the rise in living standards of large populations,
who are increasing their consumption of animal-based food). It is important to note that one kilo of animal
products requires five times the amount of agricultural area and water than growing plant-based foods.
C. Due to the effects of desertification and other phenomena - the world’s areas available for agriculture are
getting smaller.
D. The growing shortage of water available for agriculture.
There is no doubt that global agriculture must undergo change and adjust to the major changes taking place in the
world. Agriculture needs to be very smart and sophisticated, agriculture that can produce more crops with much
less water and land. Agriculture of the future will need to know how to use water and the oceans as a platform for
food production.
I can note with satisfaction that the 21st “Agro-Mashov” international exhibition will make a great contribution to
the world, both by the technologies that are displayed in the exhibition for the use of farmers around the world, and
through the discussions that are taking place here.
During the conference and the exhibition there will be five international symposia, which are really global
brainstorming, that will create innovative and unconventional solutions.
In recent years, the “Agro-Mashov” exhibition has become an international meeting place of utmost importance,
due to the geographical location of the exhibition - between three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe. Israel,
which has provided groundbreaking developments to the world, such as drip irrigation, computerized dairy farm,
and more advanced hybrid seeds - is an ideal place to expose new technologies that will help solve the crisis
currently gripping the world.
I congratulate all the exhibitors, visitors, lecturers at the various symposia and discussions and wish everyone
that we will meet again next year, at the 22nd “Agro-Mashov” exhibition – when hopefully the global food crisis will
have moderated.

The “Agro-Mashov” Exhibition, which takes place for the 21st year in a row, enables the public to become
familiar with the achievements of Israeli agriculture and to be impressed by the new technologies and
developments resulting from Israeli research. These innovations are the secret of the local and worldwide
success of Israeli agriculture. Due to the agricultural research and development, Israel has become a leading
exporter of knowledge, technologies and agricultural inputs, and has won extravagant praise from international
organizations and bodies.
The latest technologies, displayed at the exhibition, are providing the solutions to the challenges facing Israeli
agriculture, primarily lack of water, field hands, land and capital.
In the framework of the exhibition, labor-saving and automation technologies will be displayed. The transition
to mechanized work is the main change that will take place in the agricultural sector over the next five years,
along with the continuing trend of switching to green agriculture.
I want to congratulate the guests of honor at the exhibition - Brazil, Russia, India and China - which are the
countries with the most rapid economic growth today. The rise in living standards in these countries and the
increasing consumption of livestock products require global re-assessment regarding food supply. Israel has
much to contribute on this issue and she will be happy to make her knowledge available to other countries.
Events such as this exhibition are a magnet for foreign delegations whose presence creates the infrastructure
needed to develop business relationships and to disseminate worldwide Israeli knowledge and technologies.

Israeli agriculture is in the front line
dealing with the global food crisis
The “Agro-Mashov” Exhibition, which has been taking place for 21years in a row is a showcase of the State
of Israel in the fields of agriculture and trade.
Advanced agricultural technology, improvements in the field of genetic engineering and expansion of the study
of water systems are just some of the topics that will be presented and raised at the exhibition. The great
importance and influence of these issues and others on society and the economy lay a great responsibility on
all of us.
Maintaining the countryside and agricultural development is not a one-time action for one generation, but
an ongoing process with changing tasks. “Translation” of agricultural language to the everyday language of
the economy and the Israeli public and developing an overall concept as part of social and environmental
responsibilities are some of the milestones that will allow the continued progress of agriculture in Israel.
One of the challenges facing us is the food crisis that is plaguing the world. In the last decade efforts by
and investments from the international community have increased with the purpose of accelerating food
production and raising its quality worldwide through research, development and targeting investments in the
field. Israel, which has operated since its establishment under harsh climatic constraints developed over the
years a series of agricultural technologies that can be of great help in overcoming this crisis.
I appeal to all those who are working to exploit the great knowledge and the increasing willingness, to
coordinate and promote integrated action across the world to eradicate the phenomenon of hunger. Together
we can take part in solving one of the most challenging and central threats currently facing social and
economic stability in the world.
I wish the visitors and the exhibitors participating in the exhibition an enriching and enjoyable experience, and
to all Israeli farmers - good luck and success!

"The food crisis is causing riots all over the world - How to deal with it?”
Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in food prices. World experts predict that this is just
the beginning of a process, which reflects the growing global shortage. The problem is not a
threat to the Third World alone, but threatens the entire world. We have recently been witnessing
internal riots in Tunisia and Algeria, against a backdrop of rising food prices. Some argue that the
phenomenon may also lead to the outbreak of wars. Global decision-makers and experts will be
participating in the opening session and will be presenting solutions to the problem of the global
food shortage. The global shortage of food is due to:
A. Dramatic increase in world population - in the past 70 years world population increased from 2
to 7 billion people.
B. Dramatic increase in consumption of livestock products (due to rising living standards of large
populations, who are becoming greater consumers of livestock). It is important to note that one kilo
of livestock products requires five times the amount of agricultural land and water than plant foods.
C. The effects of desertification and other phenomena - the amount of land in the world available
for agricultural land is getting smaller.
D. The growing shortage of water available for agriculture.
