Welcome to the 3rd annual award winning Mid - Atlantic Equitation Festival. We look forward to greeting
our returning guests and meeting many new friends. We hope you will join us to partake of the hospitality,
where we think all of you are VIPs.
We are excited about our new partnership with Stübben North America for 2014. We can assure you the
abundance and quality of our awards which we are well known for will even exceed previous years.

CLASS 1
Mid - Atlantic Equitation Festival Adult Rider Championship
Presented by Stübben North America
Open to amateur adults 18 years of age and over. Riders must have won at least one blue ribbon at any rated, unrated, IHSA, IEA,
NCEA, NCAA, national, regional, or local competition or other scholastic organization at a fence height of 2’ - 9” to 3’ in USEF
Zones 2 or 3 (NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA, WV, or NC) between 8/1/2013 and 10/27/2014. Entry is not restricted by state of residence.
Blue ribbons won on Friday or Saturday of MAEF will also qualify riders for Finals classes. Open to exhibitors competing in over
fences equitation classes on Friday and/or Saturday (warmup classes excluded).
Ineligible to compete : Previous winners of this Finals, top 10 winners of the 2014 USEF Medal, Maclay, USEF Talent Search, WIHS
Finals (horse), G.H. Morris Excellence in Equitation. Winners of the R.W. Mutch Equitation Classic (East & West), North American
Equitation Championships, Regional Maclay Finals (all regions).
Competitors will be required to perform over approximately 10 - 12, fences 2’9” - 3’, including combinations. Riders without major
errors may return for a second round. Further testing at judges discretion. USEF Tests 1-19. Drawn order of go. The class will be
pinned in the ring and competitors will ride for ribbons and awards.
Awards Include : Gary Zook Memorial Perpetual Trophy, Stübben saddle, The Clothes Horse Cooler, gift certificates, Replica Trophy
to keep, Medal, Sponsored Awards, Ribbons, Sashes, and Saddle Pads to 10th place, Special Sponsor Award Items.
CLASS 2
Mid - Atlantic Equitation Festival Young Rider Championship
Presented by Stübben North America

CLASS 3
Mid - Atlantic Equitation Festival Novice Rider Championship
Open to JR and adult amateur riders never having won a blue ribbon in 3’ equitation in the current horse show calendar year.
Open to horses and ponies. Course will be set on traditional horse distances and strides, no combinations. Fences 2’ 6”. Riders must
have won at least one blue ribbon in any rated, unrated, IHSA, IEA, NCEA, NCAA, national, regional, or local competition or other
scholastic organization between 8/1/2013 and 10/27/2014 in USEF Zones 2 or 3 (NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA, WV, or NC). Exhibitors must
compete and complete a course on Friday and/or Saturday of MAEF competition (warm - up classes excluded). Previous winners of
this class are ineligible to compete.
Competitors will be required to perform over approximately 10 - 12 fences, no combinations. Riders without major errors may
return for a second round. Further testing at judges discretion. USEF Tests 1-19. Drawn order of go. The class will be pinned in the
ring and competitors will ride for ribbons and awards.

WARM - UP CLASSES
Open to all including professionals, entries must be entered on entry form and wear a back number on course, class size may be limited. Judged and
filled on a first come first served basis. Posted order, minimum of 6 fences, course set on traditional horse strides and distances. Ribbons to 8th place.

M & S 2’6” Children’s Medal

M & S 2’6” Adult Medal
Open to Adult Amateur riders on a horse that are not competing at the same show in any class with fences 3’ or higher. To be shown over a
minimum of eight fences at 2’6” including a combination and at least two changes of direction after the first fence. Two or more tests of the top
four competitors are required. Only one rider per horse. May be combined with 2’6” M & S Children’s Medal. The rider must be a M & S member and
three riders must complete the course in order for points to count toward qualifying for M & S Finals. Award and ribbons to 8th place.
3 ‘ CLASSES
CLASS 8
M & S Adult Medal
Open to Adult Amateur Riders. To be shown over minimum of 8 fences at 3’ including a combination and at least two changes of direction after the
first fence. Two or more tests of the top four competitors are required. The same horse must be used in all phases. Only one rider per horse. Three
riders must complete the course in order for points to count. The rider must be a member in order for points to count toward qualifying for the M
& S Finals. May be combined with Sore No More Children’s Medal. Award and ribbons to 8th place.
CLASS 9
Ariat Adult Medal
Open to all Amateur members of the USEF and Equine Canada. A rider may not compete at the same horse show in any class in which the jumps
exceed 3’3”. To be shown over a minimum of eight fences 2’9” to 3’ in height, spread not to exeed fence height. The course will be a Jumper type
course and will include at least two changes of direction and a combination. Water obstacles are not permitted. The top four riders are required to
perform at least two individual tests from USEF Tests 1-19. An Open Numerical Scoring System must be used in the first round, with each rider’s score
announced at the completion of their round. There is no minimum requirement to fill the class. Award and ribbons to 8th place.
CLASS 10
VHSA Adult Medal
Open to horses only. Contestant must be a member of VHSA prior to entry in the class and must hold a current amateur card issued by USEF. To be
shown over a course of not less than six (6) obstacles at three (3) feet, which must include one combination and two changes of direction. All VHSA
Medal Class courses must have at least two of the following inside the course: a roll back turn, a broken or bending line, an end jump, a narrow
jump, or a long ride to a single jump. Riders may not compete in any class where the fence height exceeds 3 feet, 3 inches. No flat phase. The judge
must call back at least four exhibitors for further testing. There must be at least three (3) exhibitors to fill the class and three (3) exhibitors must
complete the course in order for that particular class to count. This Medal cannot be combined with any other VHSA Medal or any other Division/
Class. Award and ribbons to 8th place.
CLASS 11
Sore No More Children’s Horse Medal
Open to Junior Riders on horses that are not competing at the same show in any class in which the fences exceed 3’3”. To be shown over a minimum
of 8 fences the 3’ including a combination and at least two changes of direction after the first fence. Two or more tests of the top four competitors
are required. The same horse must be used in all phases. Only one rider per horse. Three riders must complete the course in order for points to

THIS Children’s Medal
Open to all Junior members of the USEF AND Equine Canada who have never competed in any of the following National Equitation Finals with fences at 3’6”. Pessoa/
US Medal; ASPCA Maclay; USEF Talent Search (East or West); Jump Canada Medal Finals; WIHS Junior Equitation Finals; Hunterdon Cup; North American Equitation
Championship.
To be shown over a minimum of eight fences 2’9” to 3’ in height, spread not to exceed fence height. The course will be a Jumper type course and will include at least two
changes of direction and a combination. Water obstacles are not permitted. The top four riders are requited to perform at least two individual tests from USEF Tests 1 - 19.
An Open Numerical Scoring System must be used in the first round, with each rider’s score announced at the completion of their round. There is no minimum requirement
to fill the class. Award and ribbons to 8th place.
CLASS 13
VHSA Children’s Medal
Open to Junior members of VHSA who have not reached their 18th birthday and who have not jumped higher than three feet at a show where entered in the Children’s
Hunter Division, except in Equitation. Exhibitor must be a member of VHSA prior to entry in the class. Open to horses only. To be shown over a course of not less than
six obstacles at 3’, which must include one combination and two changes of direction. All VHSA Medal Class courses must have at least two of the following inside the
course : a roll back turn, a broken or bending line, an end jump, a narrow jump, or a long ride to a single jump. Riders may not compete in any class where the fence
height exceeds 3’3”. No flat phase. The judge must call back at least four exhibitors for further testing. Further testing at judges discretion, USEF Tests 1-19. There must
be at least three exhibitors to complete the course in order to count. This Medal cannot be combined with any other VHSA Medal or any other Division/Class. Award and
ribbons to 8th place.

CLASS 14
M & S JR/AM Horsemanship Medal
Open to Juniors and Amateurs. No cross entry restrictions. Over fences phases to be shown over a minimum of 8 fences at 3’3” including at least one combination (a
double and a triple are preferred) and two changes of direction after the first fence. At least 12 riders, if available, to return to show on the flat. Flat phase to include the
working walk, working trot sitting, working trot rising, work trot rising showing a lengthening of stride, working canter, working canter showing a lengthening of stride,
and the counter canter (no more than 12 to counter canter at the same time). The same horse must be used in all phases. Running martingale or standing martingale
allowed in the jumping phase. No martingales allowed in the flat phase. Change of bridle is permissible between phases. Award and ribbons to 8th place
CLASS 25
Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival JR/AM Horsemanship Over Fences

Open to Junior Active Members of the Federation and USHJA who have not yet reached their 18th birthday. Application for membership can be made direct to the
Federation office or the exhibitor can join prior to the class through the steward. To be shown over a course of not less than eight obstacles at 3’6” with spreads to 4’
(Exception: triple bar type obstacles, maximum spread of 5’) which must include one combination including an oxer and two changes of direction (change of lead) after
the first obstacle. Two or more tests of at least the top four competitors are required. Only one rider per horse. To fill a class six competitors must complete the course.

ASPCA Maclay
Open to Junior Riders who have not reached their 18th birthday. Rider and trainer must be current members of the ASPCA/ NHSAA, and must show their ASPCA numbers
on the entry blank. All contestants are required to perform over at least eight fences at 3’6” with or without wings. A minimum of twelve riders, if available, are required
to show at a walk, trot and canter. To be judged on seat, hands, guidance and control of horse. The Under Saddle performance of those riders selected to show under

Washington International Horse Show Equitation - Jumper Phase
Open to junior members of USEF or Equine Canada. Three riders must complete the course for the class to be included in the National Ranking. Only one rider per horse.
Class to be judged in accordance with the current USEF standards for equitation. Conventional tack per JP111. Only running martingales used in the conventional manner
is permitted in the Jumper Phase. Boots and conservative colored bandages are permitted. The course will be of the type used in a High Junior Jumper competition. To be
shown over a minimum of 10 jumps at 1.10 m (3’7”). A minimum of two double or one triple combination are required. There must be at least two changes of direction
after the first fence. In addition, at least two of the following are required and more are recommended: vertical - no ground lines; Liverpool; narrow jump - minimum
width 8’; one or more of the following - triple bar, swedish oxer, fan jump. A Time Allowed will be used based on a speed of 360 yards per minute The judge will give
a numerical score for each competitor’s round. The announcer will announce the judge’s numerical score and then deduct time faults as follows: one point for each
commenced second over the Time Allowed. Rules regarding Time to Start (JP134.3 and .4) and Starting and Stopping (JP135.1) will apply. A FINAL SCORE BELOW ZERO

the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival is offering two
separate Scholarship Awards
$ 1000 Maryland Horsemanship Scholarship Award
We are grateful for the support and partial funding from the Maryland Horse
Industry Board. This scholarship is open to all equestrian enthusiasts from any and
all disciplines.Candidates with the top scores from a written exam will participate in
a practical demonstration of horsemanship knowledge and expertise.

This scholarship is open to exhibitors at the 2014 Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival.
The award will combine the results of the written exam with the a rider’s top two
riding scores from the first two days of competition.

Rules and Regulations
GENERAL INFORMATION
EVERY CLASS OFFERED HEREIN, WHICH IS COVERED BY THE RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE CURRENT
USEF RULE BOOK WILL BE CONDUCTED AND JUDGED IN ACCORDANCE THEREWITH.
1. All questions not covered in these rules and regulations shall be decided by show management and its’ decision shall be final. Management
reserves the right to refuse, decline, accept conditionally, or to cancel or limit entries, disqualify entries or exhibitors, prohibit exhibition
or entries, return any entry fees before or during the show without being held lisle for compensation and cancel, combine, or reschedule
classes, change rings, location, courses, change judges or officials, and restrict the area of the courtesy circle with a mandatory line. Show
management reserves the right to further cancel, combine, modify, or divide classes when deemed necessary to facilitate the smooth
running of the show. No refunds will be given. Show management reserves to itself the power to prohibit any person from attending or
showing a horse in the ring and to remove any individual or horse from the show without being liable for compensation.
2. Exhibitors are notified that any act of discourtesy or disobedience to the judges or officials, on the part of the owner, manager, rider,
trainer, or groom shall disqualify the horse, and the owner shall forfeit the entry fee and other fees.
3. Every horse and rider entered in the competition will comply with the rules of the horse show management, but management and
The Show Place Arena at the Prince Georges Equestrian Center will, in no case, be responsible for any loss of damage that may occur,
and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor, owner, trainer, parent, and spectator shall hold this horse show and the officials
and employees of the show blameless for any loss or accident of his/her horse, employees, equipment, which may occur from sickness,
fire, or otherwise. The Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival and The Show Place Arena at the Prince Georges Equestrian Center, its employees
and representatives, committee members, officials, and/or owners will not be held responsible for any accident or injury occurring to any
rider, groom, spectator, trainer, parent, animal or equipment at the competition. Same will not be held liable for the disappearance of any
equipment, vehicle or animal at any time. THIS SHALL BE A CONDITION OF ENTRY TO THE SHOW GROUNDS.
4. In the event of competition cancellation due to severe weather or other emergency, the Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival will not refund
entry fees or any other related fees.
5. It is compulsory for all persons at Federation licensed hunter, jumper or hunter/ jumper competitions when mounted anywhere on the
competition grounds, to wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and
Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with harness
secured.
6. Parent(s) or guardian(s) of a minor child shall hold the horse show management and The Show Place Arena at the Prince Georges
Equestrian Center harmless for any injury/ accident/death to such minor.
7. Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside
will not be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of any kind, including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm
utility vehicles, on the competition grounds of licensed competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above
described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’s license. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or
individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely
responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation. Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions
against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/ or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include
exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and
charges being filed against any of the above individuals in accordance with Chapter 6.
8. DOGS / GLASS CONTAINERS / ALCOHOL PROHIBITED IN THE SHOW PLACE ARENA. Dogs are not permitted to be loose on competition
grounds and must be on a leash or otherwise contained. Dog owners are solely responsible for any damages, claims, losses or actions
resulting from their dogs’ behaviors. Any owner of a loose dog will be fined $50 which will be added to their entry fee and the funds
donated to Danny and Ron’s Rescue, Camden, SC.
9. All horses competing in Federation non-breed restricted licensed competitions with hunter, hunter breeding, jumper and hunter seat
equitation classes (except those activities enumerated in GR901.9, items 1-9) must be properly identified and must
obtain a Registration Number from USHJA.
10. Non USEF members are subject to a Show Pass fee of $30
11. As a condition of entry, exhibitors grant permission to the Mid-Atlantic Equitation Festival to use their image for publicity purposes.

ENTRIES
1. ENTRIES CLOSE AT 4 PM THE DAY BEFORE THE CLASS
2. CLASS ENTRIES MUST BE MADE WHEN PLACING STALL RESERVATIONS TO AVOID POST ENTRY FEE OF $ 50 - NO EXCEPTIONS
3. NO ENTRY WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT PAYMENT IN FULL OF STALL, ENTRY AND ASSOCIATED FEES
4. ENTRIES WITHOUT PAYMENT IN FULL WILL BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST
5. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE HELD WITHOUT PAYMENT
6. ENTRIES CLOSE OCTOBER 31, 2014
7. No back numbers will be released until proper credentials and all signatures are in order. Please include copies of credentials and
provide all signatures with entries to facilitate processing.
8. Horses are allowed on the grounds, Thursday, November 13th after 9:00am and must leave on Sunday, November 16th within 2 hours
of the end of the last MAEF Medal Finals class. Stabling before or after these times must be arranged with horse show management.
9. Pre-entries close and must be postmarked by Friday, October 31, 2014. A $50 post entry fee will be added to all entries received after
that date. Post entry fee will be added to entries reserving stalls and not entering classes. Post entry fee is non - refundable.
10. In the case of an entry being entered and not exhibited, the entry fee will be refunded less a $50.00 office fee if the horse is ill or
becomes injured and is scratched with the show secretary accompanied by a vet certificate by October 31, 2014.
11. Checks returned by the bank for any reason will be assessed a penalty of $75.00 or 10% of the check amount, whichever is greater.
Upon notification of a returned check, accounts will be given three (3) days to make full payment, including the penalty which must be
paid in certified funds, cashier’s check or money order. Overnight mail service is advised in order to avoid notification of the sanctioning
organization for disciplinary action.
12. A billing fee of $50.00 will be added to all accounts not settled in full at the show.
13. Refunds will not be given for classes scratched the day the class is held.
14. Post entries received after the order of go is drawn will go first.
15. All exhibitors and horses must show USEF membership certification.
16. Two armbands for admittance to the Sunday Exhibitor Brunch and College Fair will be issued to each exhibitor. Extra armbands are
available for $10 and may be ordered on entry blank.
17. Entries are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Entries will be limited.
18. Each horse on the show grounds must be officially entered on an entry form.
MARYLAND EQUINE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
Maryland Equine
1. All horses and other equidae, 9 months of age and older, shall be accompanied by a negative test for equine infectious anemia (EIA)
made within the 12 months before the date of the event. A copy of this test shall accompany every animal.
2. A CVI is not required for Maryland equine
Out-of-State Equine
1. All horses and other equidae, 9 months of age and older, shall be accompanied by a negative test for equine infectious anemia (EIA)

2. All horses and other equidae shall be accompanied by a CVI issued within 30 days prior to entry.
3. The following contiguous states and New Jersey are exempted from the CVI requirement: Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and
West Virginia.

STABLING
1. Stalls will be available on a first come, first served basis (by the date received or the post mark on the envelope).
2. All stabling is permanent with doors. Stalls $200.00 Initial bedding is not furnished.
3. Non-showing horses will be charged a fee of $150.00
4. A Grounds fee of $100 for horses shown without stabling. Entries in flat classes only are exempt from stall and grounds fee.
5. No sharing of stalls is allowed. If two people share a horse, separate entries must be made and the applicable fees paid by each entry.
6. All vehicles and trailers must park in designated areas. Vehicles and trailers will only be allowed in stabling area while loading and
unloading.
CHAMPIONSHIPS AND CLASS ROUTINE
1. Flat classes of each age group division will count half points toward Championship.
2. There will be a posted order of go in all classes.
3. All classes and awards will be presented in the ring and exhibitors must ride for ribbons and awards. Awards will not be mailed.
REFUNDS
1. All refunds are subject to a $50.00 office fee.
2. Full refunds will be given before the closing date. After the closing date, stall fees are non-refundable.
3. Scratches must be made in the horse show office on the official form and are subject to a $50.00 Scratch Fee.
4. Refunds will be mailed within 30 days after the horse show.

SCHOOLING
1. The main coliseum ring will be open for schooling (vertical and oxer available) from noon until 6:00pm on Thursday, November 13th
and hacking only 5:30 - 6:30am Friday, and 6:00 - 7:00am on Saturday and Sunday.
2. The outside ring with schooling jumps (vertical, oxer, crossrail) will be available for schooling beginning at noon on Thursday,
November 13th until the completion of the competition.
3. The outside ring will be illuminated on competition nights.
4. Lunging is allowed on the race track. No lunging permitted in show, warm-up, or schooling areas.
5. Any riders in the main show ring while the ring is officially closed will be automatically eliminated.

From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 11A, for Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue South/East. Follow Route 4 South for seven miles to
the Upper Marlboro exit. At the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp, turn right and enter The Show Place Arena property.
From Baltimore:
From the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) take Exit 4, for I-97 South for Annapolis/Bay Bridge. Continue on I-97 to Exit 7, MD Route 3
South. At Bowie, Route 3 will become Route 301 South. Continue on Route 301 South to the exit for Route 4 North/West, towards
