Manager for Camelot Cleaners
in Fargo, ND. After seven
years at Camelot, and overseeing a transition

support services in fifteen different

Benefit From Investing in Your Business, Be
Sustainable to Save time and Money
Andy Lien, Technical Operations Manager at
GreenEarth Cleaning will discuss a variety of
practical topics that will help your dry
cleaning operations be more sustainable.
If you are converting from PERC to an
alternative solvent, it is necessary to replace
the dry cleaning machine. But how do you
know which one to buy? Which filtration
system will you use? The machine options
are numerous – don’t be stuck with a
configuration that is costly to operate with.
Learn about the most
important features of new
machines and how they
will save you time and
money.
Andy will also talk about
the importance of quality
machine installation,
programming, and setup. Learn about prespotting versus post-spotting and how your
operating philosophy might be responsible
for wasted chemicals, utilities, and labor.
Finally, some tips on maintenance will help
you keep your plant running smoothly and
profitably.

Presenter
Walter Avramenko
Mr. Avramenko is the Unit Leader
for the Hazardous Waste
Corrective Action Unit
Compliance Program in the
Hazardous Materials and Waste Management
Division at the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment. Mr.
Avramenko holds a B.S. from the University
of New York at Buffalo and a Master of
Science degree from the University of
Oregon.
Mr. Avramenko has more than 20 years of
experience in the Hazardous Waste
Corrective Action Unit where he oversees the
closure and cleanup of Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
regulated facilities. He has served as the
Unit Leader since 1992. The Corrective
Action Unit is responsible for overseeing the
investigation and remediation of a wide
variety of RCRA regulated facilities, from
small dry cleaning establishments to the
large aerospace industries and federal
facilities.
Hazardous Waste Regulatory Overview and
Dealing with Environmental Clean-up
Presentation
Walter will speak about the conditions at dry
cleaning facilities that would result in the
Department taking an interest in the site and
possibly trigger regulatory requirements to
investigate and cleanup spills of the solvent
PERC. This includes a discussion on what
these conditions are, what the regulations
say constitutes disposal of hazardous waste,
who is responsible and the actions that must
be performed if a release of PERC has
reached soil, ground water or surface
water. Examples will be provided showing
how PERC can move through the
environment, the time it can take to cleanup
and the enormous cost associated with its
characterization and remediation. He will
also touch on the regulatory requirements
for spills associated with alternative solvent
usage.
Perc is a great cleaning solvent if managed properly.
Always follow best management practices for
minimizing the risk of a release. Walter will discuss
perc best management practices in his presentation.
