Welcome to the first edition of Onboard 2016!
Al-Futtaim Travel would like to heartily thank you for your contributions and the support
you have given us in 2015.
While pressure on markets continues, the lower cost of fuel will have other positive outcomes
on travel, which remains an attractive way to spend, as many airlines have lowered their

A unique experience for students from
the University of Maryland
Al-Futtaim Travel’s MICE division welcomed 2016 by hosting a group of 30 MBA students from the Robert H Smith
School of Business, University of Maryland. They were offered a unique blend of cultural and educational experiences
with visits to the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, as well
as the usual leisure activities of city tours, desert safari, dhow dinner cruise and the Burj Khalifa observation deck.
Business meetings for the group included Masdar Institute, Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Dubai International Financial
Centre, Nakheel, Etihad Rail, Mubadala, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority and
Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate. We would like to thank Ian Torrance, General Manager – Development, Al-Futtaim Group
Real Estate for sharing his experience with the students. We are looking forward to welcoming more student groups
from Bocconi University, John Cass Business School and Columbia Business School in the coming months.

Concourse D opens at Dubai
International Airport boosting capacity to 90 million
Dubai International Airport boosted its capacity to 90 million passengers as it
opened its new Concourse D.
The concourse, part of a US$1.2 billion investment to enhance service and
capacity, is linked to the newly-renovated Terminal 1 by an airport train that can
transport 300 passengers per trip.
Concourse D has 21 contact stands, of which four will be able to accommodate
the double-deck Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 planes. There are also 11 remote stands.
The new concourse also features well-being concepts such as Be Relax spa and SnoozeCubes, plus nine lounges, including five airline
lounges, a new Al Majlis lounge, two Dubai International Hotel lounges and a Marhaba VIP lounge. Dubai Duty Free has a total of
175 retail installations.
New Passenger Facilities Charge introduced at Dubai
International Airport
A new passenger facilities charge at Dubai International Airport (DXB) is to be
implemented to assist in funding the airport’s continued facility improvement
programme which aims to increase capacity and enhance service levels and
capability of the airport. For tickets issued on/after 1st March and for travel
on/after 1st July, a tax of AED 35.00 will be collected per passenger for every
departure from Dubai International Airport (DXB). The tax is to be collected at
the point of sale and shown separately on the ticket.
Emirates says Hello Cebu (CEB) and Clark (CRK)
From 30 March 2016, Emirates is pleased to announce that it will
operate daily passenger flights to Mactan–Cebu International Airport
(CEB) and Clark International Airport (CRK) in the Philippines.
Emirates adds sixth daily flight to Heathrow
Emirates is adding a sixth daily flight to London Heathrow starting 27th March.
The new Emirates flight to London Heathrow will initially be operated by a
Boeing 777-300 ER, departing Dubai at 11.30 am and arriving in London at
4.10 pm. The service will be upgraded to an Airbus A380 on 1st June.
Qatar Airways to fly direct to Mozambique
Qatar Airways will start direct flights to Maputo, Mozambique on 27th March,
replacing the current service that currently stops via Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Doha-based airline will continue its thrice-weekly service when it launches
direct flights, whilst also maintaining its current services to Johannesburg,
South Africa.
