Platica con Luis Fernando Castañeda 4:30pm—Comida en el Salón Penitential Rite Page 2 Psalm Response 2nd Sunday of Advent Entrance Chant: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel Gospel Acclamation Nicene Creed Penitential Rite (Confiteor) I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made; For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Page 3 Prep. of the Gifts: Your Light Will Come, Jerusalem Mystery of Faith Amen Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) Sanctus (Holy, Holy) Practicing Catholics (those at Mass each week and regular at confession) are invited to receive the Sacrament. Non practicing Catholics should go to confession before receiving Holy Communion. Non Catholics are welcome to come for a blessing (cross your arms over your chest). Communion Chants: The Living Bread of God Page 4 Sending Forth: Prepare the Way of the Lord Jesus, Hope of the World II Domingo de Adviento Entrada: Oh Ven, Oh Ven, Emmanuel Credo Niceno Page 5 Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, Creador del cielo y de la tierra. But during Serra’s life time the journey from North [Monterey] to San Diego was measured in months, rather than in days. Apparently his plan was to have a “poblado” that is inhabited place every three days journey [some twenty-five leagues, or 65 miles between them] so that “every third day one might sleep in a “poblado.” The “highway” the Franciscans created was not uniquely named “El Camino Real” [the King’s Highway], because every “highway” in the new world was called the same, whether in California or New Mexico or other locale, and the designation of Highway 101 as “El Camino Real” came about much later in 1892. Highway 101 roughly parallels the route of the early explorers, Fr. Juan Crespí and his military guide Portolá, who travelled north at the beginning of the Missionary period. By the end of the busy year of 1771, there were 4 missions established, not as we see them today with churches and facilities, but with makeshift chapels and cells for the friars and larger open rooms for the residents. Two were in the south [San Diego and San Gabriel] and two in the north [Carmel and San Antonio] with an enormous gap between them. The results of establishing the missions had been mixed with equal parts success and some conversions and baptisms, along with many set-backs. Another problem that came along with the missions began to surface during these early days with the infection of the native people with European diseases, mostly syphilis and small pox. The Padres knew nothing of germ theory, and they certainly did not know that people living in close quarters created an incubator for many diseases. IHM Pray for us Fr. Steckel In the wake of the tragic events in Paris on November 13, 2015, Catholic Charities of the East Bay urges the community to stand in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of Syrians and others displaced by the violence in their homeland. While this is a complex issue, we urge our community to avoid the impulse to blame all refugees for the actions of terrorist organizations. They, too, are victims of violence and persecution and seek a place of safety and freedom. Instead, let us stand firm and serve the marginalized, just as we pray for continued healing and safety in our communities.
