A Word from Our Pastor

Please Pray for Our Candidates
This Sunday we will have the Rite of
Acceptance and Welcome for the adult Catechumen and
Candidates of RCIA. For the Catechumen, the
beginnings of a spiritual life and the fundamentals of
Christian teaching have taken root.
In carrying out our apostolic mission, the
parishioners of St. John the Baptist will accept them as
persons who intend to become members of our
faith. The catechumens are Ivan Perez, Lisa Hardin,
Jason Hale, Gregory Leuriett, Nicole TinajeroArriaga,
Joshua Bravo, and Jesse Hammonds.
We will also welcome the candidates who are
baptized Christians and now wish to join our faith.
They are Mailey Bravo, Douglas Compere, Timothy
Walker, Charlene Walker, Linda Silva, and Stephanie
Stacey. We ask that you keep these people in your
prayers.
My dear family in Christ,
We begin anew. There is a renewed energy at the
beginning of a new focus. We are getting ready for God
becoming human in Jesus of Nazareth who was born in total
simplicity in a stable. How unlike a royal birth! I have said
many times that God is the only being who has no trouble
with humility. Only God takes this naturally. This Advent
season we need to be open and receptive to this surprise and
wonder. Which is not easy to ponder when we enter a time
so filled with activity. There are invitations to participate in
parties, buy that special gift and share our generosity (I
want to give a “shout out” to all of you who were so quick
to pick up the requests for gifts on our tree for the children
and families who have little or nothing. Thank you.).
Advent consists of four weeks. The invitation calls
for us to look at time through the eyes of faith. For the first
week of Advent, the readings are about the final reality, the
end of time. This may not be how we look at this as we get
ready for Christmas, but the church offers time differently.
The ultimate goal of life is eternity and that is made real in
the birth of the Son of God as Jesus of Nazareth. Who
prepared the way for his coming? It was John the Baptist.
Prepare the way of the Lord! The church gets it and she
calls us to rejoice! Why? We are awaiting the One who
will change the perspective of how reality is viewed. The
Catholic Church puts lots of emphasis on God becoming
human. We anticipate this historical event as being real.
Not just as what happened in the past but being tangible at
the end of this season. The church doesn’t just remember, it
makes present what was an action that changed the world.
This is the reason to rejoice.
Finally, we have the surprise of a young woman
who is a virgin bringing the savior into the world through
the cooperation of the Holy Spirit. We are the parishioners
of John the Baptist who can take to heart the words
addressed to Mary at the beginning of the Gospel of Luke,
“and behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a
son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who
was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for
God” (Luke 1:36-37). All is possible for those who put
their trust in God who not only created us but also,
definitively, redeemed us with his lavish love.
Family Advent Activity
Advent is a beautiful season in the church in
which we are eagerly waiting for the coming of our
Savior! We are all familiar with making sacrifices
during Lent as we wait for Easter morning, but did you
know that Advent is also a time for making sacrifices as
we prepare our hearts to
receive the infant Jesus?
A fun way to
incorporate this concept with
children is by working
to fill an empty manger
during the season of Advent.
Each family may take a
bundle of straw for this
activity. Every time someone
in the family does a good
deed or makes a sacrifice, he or she gets a piece of
straw. Explain that good deeds and sacrifices are the
best present we can give to Jesus for his birthday! Keep
the straw your child(ren) collect in a safe place. Then
when you attend Christmas Mass, please bring all the
straw along with you, and the children will be given the
opportunity to add it to the manger in the church. With
each piece of straw added to the manger, Jesus has a
softer place to lay for Christmas morning! Each family
is invited to pick up a straw bundle after all Masses this
weekend.

Youth Service Ministry
We are off to a nice start in Youth
Service Ministry! We are on track to perform
our very first service project which will be
cooking a Christmas meal for the homeless of
Longmont. We ask for your prayers as we
build this new ministry.
All 7th through 12th grade students and
their parents are invited to join us in the St. Catherine
Room on Sunday, December 6th at 9:30 a.m. Our mission:
Being called by Pope Francis to devote the upcoming
Jubilee Year of 2016, a Year of Mercy. We have dedicated
the creation of the St. John Youth Ministry to the intentions
of our Holy Father.
We will complete Corporal and Spiritual works of
mercy under the guidance and influence of St. Lawerence
with a special dedication to Our Holy Mother Mary. We
dedicate ourselves to assisting those of our parish family,
our greater community, and the world. By performing
these works of mercy through the use of our time, talents,
and material gifts from God, we put our Catholic faith into
action and ask God to bless us with the graces of a deeper
relationship with Him. While we work side by side, we
hope to attain many faith filled friendships that last a

Hello Parish Family!
The CREED program has a request. We are
asking you to “Adopt a Candidate!” Please take a slip of
paper from this basket located in front of the altar. The
paper has a prayer to the Holy Spirit and one of our
sacramental candidate’s name on it. We would ask that
you dedicate yourself to pray for this candidate as often as
possible in the coming year while they prepare
themselves to receive the graces of their upcoming
sacraments. Thank you and God bless you.
Adult CREED
What is Adult CREED? Adult CREED is
Catholic Religious Education for adults! It is a program
designed as a resource for our adult parishioners to learn
more about various aspects of our faith. We offer it
simultaneously with our Tuesday night children’s CREED
program so the parents of our younger students can take
advantage of it if they choose to.
So far, this program is going very well! Rebecca
Williams will speak December 1st on God is Love: Love
Incarnate in the World based on the encyclical of Pope
Benedict XVI. Please join us for learning, lively
discussion, and snacks!
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
What is CLOW? CLOW is a program designed
for some of our littlest parishioners, ages 4-8. This
program was designed to help our little ones understand
the Mass. Prior to the start of the 10:30 a.m. Mass,
children are asked to leave their pews and follow a CLOW
leader to the Chapel. There they experience the Liturgy of
the Word on a level more suited for their understanding.
At the offertory, the children return to their families to
celebrate the Liturgy of Eucharist together. This is a very
good experience for the children, especially our second
graders who are preparing for their First Holy
Communion.
Originally the CLOW program was to start
November 1st and run through April. Unfortunately, we
have not been able to secure enough volunteers to have the
program run smoothly. If anyone would be interested in
volunteering, please contact Liz Smith immediately at
303-776-0737, ext. 106. We will start the program as soon
as we have enough volunteers in place. The time
dedicated to this program is one 10:30 a.m. Mass per
month. Plan on arriving 15 minutes prior to Mass for set
up and staying 15 minutes after the class for clean up.
Please consider this important volunteer opportunity for
the children of the parish. Thank you.
Family Prayer Group
Our “Family Prayer Group” will meet on Sunday
December 13th, 9:45-10:15 a.m. in the Chapel. We will
pray Advent prayers. Please join us for some dedicated
time to pray for loved ones, yourself, or some of the
troubles facing our world.

St. John’s Food Bank
and Outreach
This Christmas season our Food Bank and Outreach Programs will have many volunteer opportunities to help
those in need in our community. You may choose the Jesse Tree program and pick up a scroll to buy a present for a child, a
teen, an adult, a senior, or a person with mental or physical disabilities. You may choose our Adopt-A-Family program and
be a delivery driver. Finally, if your heart goes out to the homeless; you may choose to give gifts that help them deal with
life on the streets during the winter weather.
Please do not feel like you are expected to support every demographic. Choose the ones for whom you feel
compassion. Children, seniors, and disabled are the most popular categories; however, the homeless are not far behind.
Often times adults and teens are overlooked because many feel they can take care of themselves. In reality this is a large
group with need. While doing my job for the last nine years, I have seen many teens and single parents go with nothing,
while the children get saturated with an abundance of gifts. Christ had a great compassion for the children, however he also
cared for the poor, the hungry, the crippled, and the forgotten.
Just go with your heart and you will always be satisfied with your donation. For every gift or donation you give to
anyone in need, you are acknowledged first by our newborn King. May this Christmas be the best one you have ever had,
not from what you get, but from what you give.

ADVIENTO, SIGNIFICADO Y
ACTITUDES QUE REQUIERE
El tiempo de Adviento presenta
un doble aspecto: por una parte, es el
tiempo de preparación a la solemnidad de
la Navidad, en la cual se conmemora la
primera "venida" del Hijo de Dios y, por

otra, con este recuerdo se dirige nuestra
atención hacia la expectación de la "segunda venida" de
Xto al final de los tiempos. Por esta doble razón se presenta
el Adviento como el tiempo de la alegre esperanza. Nuestra
vida cristiana adquiere sentido a partir de estos dos
momentos históricos: la Encarnación de Xto que nos
diviniza y la Parusía que lleva esta obra a su total
cumplimiento. El cristiano vigila, y espera siempre la
venida del Señor.
La historia de la liturgia de Adviento manifiesta que
la asamblea cristiana, al reunirse en este tiempo santo,
celebra la venida de Jesús en Belén, la presencia del Señor
en su Iglesia, particularmente en las acciones litúrgicas, y la
venida definitiva del Rey de la gloria al final de los
tiempos. Este hecho de la venida del Señor debe despertar
en el cristiano una actitud personal de fe y vigilancia, de
hambre o pobreza espiritual y de misión o presencia en el
mundo, para que se realice el encuentro personal que
constituye el objeto de la pastoral de este tiempo.
ACTITUD DE FE Y VIGILANCIA
Por la fe no solamente admitimos un cierto número
de verdades o proposiciones contenidas en el Credo, sino
que llegamos a la percepción y conocimiento de la
presencia misteriosa del Señor en los sacramentos, en su
Palabra, en la asamblea cristiana y en el testimonio de cada
uno de los bautizados. Sensibilizar nuestra fe equivale a
descubrir al Señor presente entre nosotros. La vigilancia no
debe entenderse solamente como defensa del mal que nos
acecha, sino como expectación confiada y gozosa de Dios
que nos salva y libera de ese mal. La vigilancia es una
atención concentrada hacia el paso del Señor por nuestras
cosas.
ACTITUD DE HAMBRE O POBREZA ESPIRITUAL
El Adviento es también tiempo de conversión.
Porque ¿cómo podemos buscar al Señor si no reconocemos
que tenemos necesidad de Él? Nadie deseará ser liberado si
no se siente oprimido. Pobreza espiritual es aquella actitud
de sentirse necesitado de Aquél que es más fuerte que
nosotros. Es la disposición para acoger todas y cada una de
sus iniciativas.
ACTITUD MISIONERA O PRESENCIA EN EL MUNDO
En realidad el misterio del hombre sólo se esclarece
en el misterio del Verbo encarnado" (GS núm. 22). El
hombre de hoy busca ansiosamente su razón de existir. La
multiplicación de las relaciones mutuas por el progreso
técnico no llevan al hombre a la perfección del coloquio
fraterno. Cada vez se siente más necesitado de la
comunidad que se establece entre las personas.

iglesia. Deberán presentarse 15 minutos antes.
Misa de la Inmaculada Concepción de la
Santísima Virgen Maria.
El lunes 7 de diciembre, todas las clases deberán
atender a la misa de la Inmaculada Concepción de la
Santísima virgen Maria, a las 6:00 p.m. en la Iglesia. La
misa será en español. Ese día no hay clases.
Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe
Todos están invitados a participar en la celebración de
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe el sábado 12 de
diciembre. Comenzaremos con las Mañanitas a las 6:00
a.m, Misa 7:00 a.m., y 8:00 a.m. almuerzo.
Vacaciones de Navidad
La última semana de clases para Educación Religiosa,
será la segunda semana de diciembre. Esa semana todas
las clases deberán atender a la misa de la Inmaculada
Concepción de la Santísima virgen Maria. Lunes 7 de
diciembre a las 6:00 p.m. en la Iglesia.
La Misa de Navidad, será el viernes 25 de diciembre a
las 12:30 p.m.

Frances Cabrini Parish in Littleton. She will be speaking
