Jim Byrnes is a Vancouver-dwelling US ex-pat who was raised up in St. Louis and
pays homage to that city with his new St. Louis Times album of tunes associated
with that city (St. Louis Blues) or its residents such as Little Milton, Fontella Bass,
and Charles Berryman (to name a few). Dropping by to lend a helping hand are
John Hammond, Collen Rennison and Colin James along with the inimitable
Steve Dawson in the producer’s chair. A fine tribute; missing only Show Me The
Way To St. Louis by The Easybeats.
So let’s get Medeski, Martin & Wood into a performance space in Woodstock with
an audience of dozens and throw Wilco’s Nels Cline into the mix. Record it live
and see what happens. What happened last August was an avant-groove evening
serving as a testament to the abilities of all participants. Cool beans!

spawned their name with cover versions by some of the groups who played at the

Moot Davis’ fourth album, Goin’ In Hot, finds the singer/songwriter/guitarist hitting a new peak. After three retro
country-based albums that drew favorable comparisons to Hank Williams Sr. and Dwight Yoakam, Davis shifts
gears from honky tonk towards roadhouse rock. The album’s 13 offerings range from songs lamenting loss to
wild hip shakers. Goin' In Hot also features a duet with red hot New West Records’ artist Nikki Lane. NPR hails

St. Louis Times is Jim Byrne’s most personal record to date. Reminiscences of his childhood home of St. Louis are
expressed through his original compositions as well as versions of songs he grew up with that were recorded
by St. Louis musicians. By revisiting songs associated with Chuck Berry, Stump Johnson, Little Milton, Peetie
Wheatstraw and more, Jim Byrnes takes us on an intimate musical journey through a world that has passed.
St. Louis Times is the sixth album that Jim Byrnes and Steve Dawson have recorded together. Dawson gathered some
of the best roots musicians in Canada together for a super session to record the basic tracks for St. Louis Times.
John Hammond trades verses with Byrnes on Ducks Yas Yas Yas, offers some tasty National Steel on Cake Alley
and blows some serious harp on Evil and I Believe That Was A Lie. Canadian blues icon, Colin James stepped up
to play an acoustic solo on That Will Never Do.

Medeski Martin & Wood + Nels Cline came together to record in August of 2013 at Applehead Studios in Woodstock,
NY, as part of a newly launched series that brings established and emerging recording artists together with
their fans in the recording studio. The end results of the sessions are recordings that capture inspired, one-off
performances. The initial collaboration between MMW and Nels Cline was a year earlier when they performed at The
Blue Note for two sold out shows in New York City. Heard in its entirety, The Woodstock Sessions presents some of
