AMERICANA
Emily Grace Berry, Canyon Music
From the heart of her native Texas, Emily Grace Berry channels the musical spirit of California’s Laurel
Canyon. It was a soulful brand of country set to a rock beat in the 70s when artists like Linda Ronstadt, Gram
and Emmylou Harris first created it. Emily can put a Texas brand on it because she grew up on a Texas ranch.
When Texas legend Jerry Jeff Walker played at her family’s ranch in 2000, Emily got up and sang Redneck Mother
with him. She was in the third grade. Jerry Jeff’s drummer that day was power pop rocker Freddie Steady Krc (now
her musical mentor). Freddie heard the canyon sound in Emily’s voice, so he called this record Canyon Music. And
that’s what it is, sung straight from the heart by a riveting vocalist wise beyond her musical years.

Bob Cheevers, Smoke & Mirrors
Bob Cheevers was named singer/songwriter of the year at the 2011 Texas Music Awards. With his previous two
releases finding their way to both the US and UK Americana charts, Cheevers has recorded a seminal double
album - Smoke & Mirrors. Reuniting with long time musical partner Charlie White who produced Cheevers’ critically acclaimed debut CD (Gettysburg To Graceland), Smoke is a swampy collection of great band recordings of
Cheevers’ signature story songs while Mirrors is a more intimate, acoustic leaning set. Ray Wylie Hubbard says
“Bob Cheevers is one cool scarecrow gypsy poet who writes and sings the romantic beautiful truth. When he
releases a record, I listen.”

Shakin’ Apostles, Shakin’ Apostles
It was a gloriously jangly power pop with a western twist that defined the mighty Shakin’ Apostles of Austin,
Texas in the 1990s. They were musical descendants of Freddie Steady Krc’s previous band, The Explosives, a tight
rocking trio of the prior decade. As much as Krc loved those tight-as-a-drum three-minute rockers, he was
equally influenced by the folk rock of Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, and Moby Grape. The Apostles would be his outlet for a more western sound. Freddie had been Jerry Jeff Walker’s drummer, so Texas rock came into the mix, and
it was shakin’. Wild Wild West was the quintessential Apostles song, and that’s what kicks off this album (available again after two decades). It includes five previously unreleased bonus cuts that capture the band in
action on stage. Freddie's stellar guitarist bandmates from the Explosives (Cam King) and Jerry Jeff Walker (John
Inmon) both bring the rock and roll to this classic album.

JAZZ
WOLFF & CLARK expedition, WOLFF & CLARK expedition
Pianist Michael Wolff & Drummer Mike Clark have combined their creative forces to launch the WOLFF & CLARK
EXPEDITION. With bassist Chip Jackson, the trio navigates new musical territories. Michael Wolff has performed
and recorded with several jazz legends including; Cal Tjader, Cannonball and Nat Adderley, Nancy Wilson and
Sonny Rollins. Exposed to a mass audience during his stint as bandleader of The Arsenio Hall Show, Michael is
an extraordinary player and composer. Drummer Mike Clark has toured the world many times over with Herbie
Hancock and the Headhunters, Donald Harrison, Larry Coryell, and more. In both jazz and funk, Mike is
recognized as a true innovator on his instrument. His peerless beats are some of the most sampled in the hiphop realm. The Trio navigates tunes from Adderley to Zawinul, deconstructing and reconstituting each composition in their own compelling manner. No clichés here – Just burning, grooving, beguiling inventions.

RAP/HIP HOP
Sapient, Slump
After 8 years defining the sound of Northwest Indie Hip Hop, Sapient has crafted Slump, a genre-defying
masterwork written, arranged and performed by the rising producer/emcee. Sapient takes his well-known
sound in a fresh direction: arpeggiated beats contrast with melodic guitar and piano pop choruses, creating
a lush texture for his singing voice to shine. The ethereal, lyrical sounds echo Sapient's childhood, reflected
through the lens of his experience as a working artist and new father of a young family. Slump is an honest
account, at times both hilarious and somber. Cultivating his creative vision to its full potential, Sapient is
pushing his own boundaries and claiming place in our musical lexicon with Slump.

Anders Parker (New Multitudes, Varnaline) and Kendall Meade (Mascott, Sparklehorse, Helium) present Wild
Chorus, the first full-length from these longtime collaborators. Wild Chorus was engineered and mixed by Scott
Minor (Sparklehorse, Beth Orton) and captures the beautiful combination of Parker’s bruised Americana with
Meade’s supple indie pop.

The Beaumonts, Where Do You Want It?
On their second release; this Lubbock, TX, quintet continue to right the wrongs of the recent musical past. Five of
the Hub City’s most beloved veteran musicians decided the state of Texas country music was dismal at best, and
horrifying at its worst. Enough was enough and the boys took action. What resulted was a juggernaut of essence,
the truest of true country, something akin to the creation of the universe, but with Telecasters. Behold, good
friends, and delight in the majesty of The Beaumonts! The new album sports instant classics such as I Like
Women, I Like Drinking and audience favorite, Toby Keith (Is The Ugliest Woman That I’ve Ever Seen). This is
righteous and credible honky-tonk music for adults delivered with the comedic flair of Lester “Roadhog”
Moran, Jon Wayne, Ron White and Blowfly.

Sanders Bohlke, Ghost Boy
Based in Birmingham, Alabama, Sanders Bohlke began where much of America’s great music began - the South.
Just as The Blues became Rock and Roll, Bohlke found his voice and fingers - a formidable duo capable of
austere beauty or unbridled heartbreak; in the Mississippi Delta. He honed his craft further in Oxford, where he
attended the University of Mississippi and recorded his self-titled debut. This collection of 11 new songs,
produced by Jeffrey Cain (Remy Zero), was recorded as a complete work - meant to be heard from start
to finish. On their own, each track is a standout, every song an expansion of Bohlke’s unique style; sparse and
ethereal, layered and complex, with lush soundscapes against a soulful voice. On Ghost Boy, Sanders perfects
a soundworld that deftly highlights both the beauty and the dark romance of his songs.

Churchwood, 2
“Churchwood sets a new standard for Texas-bred mannish boys,” raved Blurt of the band’s first album. Now
with 2, this inventive Austin-based band returns mightier, wilder, deeper and more rocking than before. These are
10 disarmingly catchy tracks of 21st Century blues from the big Dada swamp, as real and gritty as it is artful
and visionary; guitars doing a saber dance to a mightily bopping beat. Reminds of everything from Howlin’ Wolf
to Captain Beefheart to the soaring and searing progressive dual guitars of Television and Sonic Youth with
John Coltrane lighting the way for Churchwood to create your new favorite thing that in the end is a distinctive
sound all their own. This world-class act is “the crazy, thinking man’s blues band,” says Punk Globe.

The Grenadines, The Grenadines
The Grenadines’ self-titled debut is pure dream-drenched rock and roll cut through a southern lens. Born
equally of bright lights and seedy charm, The Grenadines might be Birmingham, Alabama’s sexiest band. Fronted
by husband and wife team Michael and Lauren Shackelford and thrust into widescreen by guitarist David
Swatzell and bassist Jesse Phillips, The Grenadines have been making a name for themselves in underground
circles thanks to both a sumptuous live show and praise from producers Andy Lemaster (Bright Eyes, Now It's
Overhead) and Spoon’s Jim Eno - both of whom have produced tracks for the band.
“We dare you not to like this” - Indie Naked Magazine raves of the single, Counting Backwards.

Red Jacket Mine, Someone Else’s Cake
At first blush, this batch of Red Jacket Mine songs seems more like a product of England in the aftermath of
punk, when angry young men such as Graham Parker, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, and Messrs.
Difford and Tilbrook of Squeeze spilled out of the pubs and elbowed their way into the UK charts. But pay
closer attention. Trust me, it isn’t hard. Someone Else’s Cake brims with melodies and lyrics that reveal new,
deeper charms with repeated spins.

Saintseneca, Last
Last is the debut full-length from Saintseneca. Prepped by lifelong friendships rooted in the same small
Appalachian town, two successful EPs and four years of anywhere-and-everywhere-we-can-stomp touring, this
record is a long time coming for the Columbus band. The band’s first studio release features subtle and
purposeful experimentation, building a fullness of sound previously elusive to the band. Zac Little’s lyrics are
both literary and carefully laconic. It is at times raucous, tender and anthemic. Intricacies aside, Last makes
sure to highlight Saintseneca’s singular indie-folk sound of populist singalongs, speed-strummed mountain
dulcimers, and a healthy dose of tambourine-filled trash cans.

Al Staehely & The Explosives, Cadillac Cowboys
Two Texas music legends come together as one-time Spirit front man Al Staehely teams up with power pop
rockers The Explosives. Al’s resume also includes songwriting for Keith Moon and a stint in the Gravenites /
Cipollina Band. The Explosives rocked Texas and beyond in the 80s, reuniting to support their old friend Roky
Erickson in the 21st Century. This time, they’re rocking with another important Texan. This EP represents each
period of Al’s career, with one song from his Spirit days (Cadillac Cowboys), one from the Gravenites /
Cipollina Band (Signs of Life), the track recorded by Who drummer Keith Moon (Crazy Like a Fox), and a
topical new rocker, just right for the mighty Explosives (Who’s Gonna Bail Me Out?). These four tracks capture
one of music’s finest, as he powerfully proves that he still has muscle, energy, and rock and roll passion. Not
to mention spirit.

WORLD
Mario Adnet, Amazonia---On the Forest Trail
Inspired by the forest, new voices, harmonies and sounds dissolve the boundaries between the classical,
the erudite and the popular to compose a spellbinding sample of musical creation, materialized here in
celebration of the peoples, beings, legends and values of Amazonia and Brazil. The repertoire includes
works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim, Dori Caymmi, Claudio Santoro, Waldemar Henrique, João Donato,
Guinga, Mario Adnet, Claudio Nucci and Nelson Ângelo, with original orchestrations by Adnet. This work
celebrates a sanctuary of culture and nature. It provides another record, a pièce de résistance in the fight for
life, for the rivers and for the forest. And in the forest, for its voices and sonorities, songs and enchantments.
Music is the path revealed along this journey. Produced in many unique breaths, together they evoke this
simultaneously real and imaginary region of the planet, here once more recreated with tonalities and timbres
inspired by Amazonia.
