Winter is one of my favourite seasons for home decorating.
The cooler weather calls for textural fabrics and warm, inviting
tones. This change in climate is the perfect excuse to switch
up the colour palette and styling in your home. Take inspiration
from the changing landscape outside and replace the pastels
and bright hues of summer with lovely charcoals, greys and
neutral tones.
As an interior stylist, my clients are always asking me for
tips and tricks on how to make their bedroom and lounge
room feel more appealing in winter. I advise them to embrace
moodier, earthy colours, mix and match linen and layer up with
chunky throws, faux furs and comfy cushions.
This is why I love the new season range from Lorraine Lea;
there are so many beautiful linen combinations and textured
accessories to keep you feeling snug during the cooler months.

The income
I’ve earned has
helped to pay
for my wedding,
financed the
building of our
family home
and allowed
us to get into
the property
market.
Prior to starting my Lorraine
Lea business, I was struggling to
find enough money to make ends
meet. I knew I wasn’t getting the
income I needed from my parttime hospitality job, so when I
saw an ad for Lorraine Lea in the
paper, I thought, ‘That’s it!
That’s what I’ll do!’.
I invested my last one hundred dollars in a
Starter Kit Deposit, and asked friends and
family to help me out by hosting some of my
initial parties. At first, I was just happy to be
able to cover rent and pay the phone bill, but
I knew Lorraine Lea offered the potential to
make a great income, so I stuck with it and
built up my business.
I wasn’t a natural at home styling parties when
I started, but I didn’t need to be. Lorraine Lea
provided all the training and support I required,
and I had my Leader and team there to help
me along the way.
It’s hard to believe I’ve been with the company
for over 17 years, and throughout that time,
my business has fitted perfectly around all the
changes in my life.
It gave me the extra money to pay for my
wedding, my dress and even the honeymoon
without going into credit card debt. The
flexibility of being my own boss allowed me to
take some time out to start a family, and ramp
things up again once my kids got a bit older.
We’ve now built our own home, and have two
investment properties as well! I would never
have been able to do these things without my
Lorraine Lea business. I’m so glad I found this
opportunity and had the courage to give it a go.

6 tips for soft, fluffy and healthy towels
There's nothing better than stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourself
in a soft, fluffy towel. However, if your bath towels are starting to feel more like
a scrubbing brush, try these tips to keep them in tip-top condition.
❶ Wash them more often

It seems obvious to say you should be
washing your bath towels regularly, but
many of us aren’t doing it frequently
enough. Towels begin to smell and
contract germs quickly and should be
laundered after every third use.
Too much of this stuff will effect a towel’s
absorbency and can actually damage
them. Softeners collect on your towel and
will eventually push the fibres of the fabric
down. Your towel fibres then stiffen and
become less absorbent because they are
full of build-up from your softeners.
❷ Give them space to breathe

If you’re short on towel hanging space,
you may be guilty of using one hook for
more than one towel. This is a bathroom
no-no. Without proper ventilation space,
the moisture in towels breed bacteria and
mould – which is not what you want to be
drying yourself with.
❸ Get a spare
It’s important to have a few towels in
rotation. Even with regular washing,
the wear and tear on just one towel will
severely shorten its longevity.
❹ Don’t use excess detergent

amount of detergent in your wash cycles
doesn’t increase the cleanliness of your
towels. In fact, because towels are
absorbent, extra soap suds will soak into
them and, if not rinsed well, the leftover
detergent can actually feed bacteria

❺ Use vinegar
Vinegar removes almost any kind of buildup. Try using about 1 cup of white vinegar
with a little bit of detergent to remove
the chemical debris and hard water
stuck in the fibres of your towels. This
will help your towels feel softer against
your skin and will bring back some of the
absorbency.
