Your peace of mind and the happiness of your child are the priorities of our experienced staff. They will help your child grow socially through games, informal play, sharing and taking turns. Children are divided into groups and are provided with positive social experiences in a secure, playful environment while in our care. Our PlayCenter is a free drop-off service for facility members only. There is a 2-hour maximum per child per day, up to 8 hours per week. Activities will be themed and consist of arts and crafts, swimming (heated pool), cooperative games, sports, and team building activities. MOVEMENT Bouncin Tiggers boys & girls ages 18 months-36 months: This is a parent-assisted class in which children will experience free movement and be introduced to gymnastic equipment such as the balance beam and vault and tumble track. Tykes Gym-n-Swim boys & girls ages 18 months-36 months: This is a parent assisted program where the children spend 30 minutes in the gym doing conditioning exercises and working on large and small motor skills and then 30 minutes in the pool learning paddling and kicking, blowing bubbles, jumping in and climbing out of the pool. Leapin Lizards boys & girls ages 3-5 years: This is a non-parent assisted class. In this class children will be divided into groups and will work on specific skills for their levels. We will also introduce the proper use of equipment and the fun moves of rolls and flips. Tumblin Tumblinas girls ages 6-12 years: This class works on specific beam & vault & floor exercise routines. Incredible Bendables boys ages 6-12 years: This class is for the more advanced gymnast who wants to work on more specific skills such as flips and work on rings and bars. Tap/Ballet/Jazz boys & girls ages 3-12 years: Our dance classes teach your child to discover the performer in them. Dancers will earn basic tap, ballet and jazz dance techniques. QUESTIONS? Teen Leaders Club middle & high school This club works to ensure the YMCA core values of honesty, responsibility, caring, and respect in your teens while volunteering with our YMCA programs. They will develop leadership skills and build identity through the planning and execution of exciting projects. This group has two meetings per month and works on special projects throughout the week. If you would like for your teen to be a part of a group that inspires each other, let us know! [email protected] 4 Swim Lessons Call to register! 404-267-5353 PARENT/CHILD CLASSES ages 6-36 months Children will have fun while becoming more comfortable in and around the water, while parents learn how to teach their child aquatic skills and how to be safe. Songs and developmentally-appropriate games are used to teach basic movements in the water such kicking, arm strokes and blowing bubbles, encourage socialization with other families with children of the same age. Parents do get in the water with their children. Swim diapers and plastic pants are required for children ages 3 & under. 30-minute classes. Parent/Child ages 6-24 months: Parent-assisted program designed to increase comfort in the water through games, songs and water movements. More Info + Register! Tyke’s Swim-n-Gym ages 18-36 months: This is a parent assisted program where the children spend 30 minutes in the gym doing conditioning exercises and working on large and small motor skills and then 30 minutes in the pool learning paddling and kicking, blowing bubbles, jumping in and climbing out of the pool. More Info + Register! Pike with Parent ages 24-36 months: Students will learn paddling, kicking on front & back, jumping in & returning to side, bubble blowing, with aid of a support. PRESCHOOL CLASSES ages 3-5 Preschoolers learn the basic skills that are building blocks of swimming, as well as pool and boating safety, and the use of personal floatation devices. To encourage skill development, this 30-minute class is taught by a trained instructor with a 1:6 instructor to child ratio. Classes are progressive. Pike (beginner): Children must be comfortable without a parent. We teach safe pool behavior, kicking skills, putting face in the water and bubble blowing. Children will learn to be independent with and without a swim belt. More Info + Register! Pike 2 (advanced beginner): Pike 2 is a class designed for children who have had previous experience in swim lessons, or who are comfortable in the water. Children will work on front and back strokes while learning breathing techniques with arm movements. More Info + Register! 5 The purpose of YMCA swim lessons is to develop competency in swimming, as well as confidence and endurance. Each class has five components: Personal Safety, Personal Growth, Stroke Development, Water Sports and Games, and Rescue. Each class also incorporates character values such as caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. A variety of class times and types are available throughout the year to meet your family’s needs including morning, afternoon, evening and weekend options. Eel (intermediate): Children should be able to put face in water, float on front & back with assistance, and swim 5 feet without a floatation device. Children will learn arm movements with an integrated kick on front, back and side; float independently on front & back for 20 seconds; bobbing, jumping in and returning to wall independently; and swimming 15 feet with breaths and without assistance. More Info + Register! Ray (advanced intermediate): The Ray level improves skills and endurance. Children must be able to swim 15 feet without assistance, glide, float and jump in water unassisted. Children will learn to front crawl, elementary backstroke, tread water and swim 20 feet. More Info + Register! Starfish (advanced): Starfish is for children who can tread water, swim 20 feet using a modified crawl stroke and swim on back. Children will learn kneeling and sitting dives, water and boat safety, breaststroke, and front crawl with rotary breathing for a distance of 40 feet without assistance by the end of this level. Classes are progressive and cover all the strokes, diving fundamentals and water safety skills. Polliwog (beginner): No skills are required. By the end of this level, students will learn front & back float; front, back and side paddle stroke with assistance for 25 yards; and jump in and return to side without assistance. More Info + Register Guppy (advanced beginner): Children must be able to go under water, float and paddle 25 yards with assistance. In this level, children will learn to tread water; swim 25 yards front & back with breathing and without assistance; learn breaststroke and sidestroke; jump into deep end and kneeling dives. Students can swim independently by the end of this level. More Info + Register Minnow (intermediate): Children must be able to swim 25 yards front and back crawl, jump in deep end and tread water. Children will continue to refine the basic stroke skills from previous classes and learn advanced personal safety and rescue skills. Students are able to swim freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke independently for 25 yards by the end of this level. More Info + Register Fish (advanced intermediate): Children must be able to swim freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke independently for 25 yards. Children will build endurance, refine breaststroke, sidestroke, open turns, survival float, water safety, standing dives and introduction to butterfly. Students are able to swim 50 yards freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with open turns at the end of this level. More Info + Register TEEN/ADULT CLASSES ages 13+ Teen/Adult: No skills required. Trained instructors will assist all swimmers and develop a lesson plan that will meet the swimmers needs based on current swimming skills. More Info + Register! PRIVATE LESSONS Private/Semi-Private Lessons facility members only: Please stop by the front desk to pick up your Private Swim lesson request. Please allow 10 days processing time once request form is submitted. Adaptive Aquatics ages 3+: This program provides adapted techniques to teach basic aquatic skills to individuals of all ages with disabilities. [email protected] PLAY VIDEO Flying Fish/Shark (advanced): Children must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with open turns. This level will emphasize endurance swimming and techniques that focus on the competitive strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Students are able to swim 100 yards in all four strokes with flip turns and bilateral breathing and are able to tread water for at least 3 minutes. More Info + Register Carl E. Coaches help participants work on all four strokes and techniques. This team focuses on fun, building self-esteem, and prepares children to compete at the next level. The team practices at the Y and competes against other Y’s in weekend meets. All new swimmers must tryout. Fall & Winter More Info + Register! Swim Team Prep ages 5-18: Students will work on stroke refinement and endurance, flip turns and starts. This will help swimmers get ready for swim team. Can participate in swim meets. Fall/Winter More Info + Register! Stroke Clinic ages 5+: The class refines all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle). The students will begin to have more structure training sessions that will prepare them for the swim team. By the end of this class, students are able to swim 50 yards continuously with a variety of strokes. Spring More Info + Register! Masters Swim facility members only ages 18+: Want to train for triathlons or competitive meets, or just want to improve your swimming ability and stay in shape? If you enjoy swimming laps, join our Masters Swim. Year-Round More Info + Register! SWIM SAFETY/TRAINING More Info + Register! Lifeguard Training ages 16+: This course is designed to give participants the basic knowledge needed to be lifeguards in the pool, lake, river, surf and waterpark environments. The comprehensive course offers up-to-date information on how to guard, anticipate, and prevent problems and take action to help those in danger when necessary. It also covers safety and survival skills every swimmers needs or know, accident prevention, guarding techniques, emergency systems, rescue skills, first aid in aquatic environments, spinal injury management, weather and open water dangers, legal responsibilities, etc. Pre-requisites include current first-aid certification, current CPR, current certification in AED and Oxygen Administration. Complete medical clearance is recommended. Must be 16 by course start date. If under the age of 18, participant must have parental consent to take this course and pass a swimming test. YMCA Aquatics Safety Assistant, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, & O2 ages 14+: This course does not provide participants with lifeguard certification and training. Course needed for Camp High Harbor Staff. This course will require internet learning to be done outside of the YMCA, prior to the first day of class. YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor ages 16+: Must be certified in CPR & First Aid prior to attending this class. Its purpose is to empower adults with lasting lifestyle changes that will improve their overall health and reduce their chance of developing type 2 diabetes. Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program reduce the number of new cases of diabetes by 58% overall and by 71% in individuals over the age of 60. 12-week membership offered from Weeks 5-16. Returning home and getting back to their lives is important for anyone who’s overcome an injury and even more so for those who are completing their rehabilitation at The Shepherd Center. Our YMCA wellness coaches have been trained by the staff at The Shepherd Center so that we can help with wheelchair-to-equipment transfers, modifying exercises and learning to use the equipment that the Y has to offer in a safe and effective way. We offer experienced instructors, many of whom are USPTA and/or USPTR certified. Our facility offers nine outdoor, lighted tennis courts: five Har-Tru clay courts and four US Open style hard courts. We also feature a ball machine for member use for $15/hour or an annual ball machine pass for $250. Your child will be taught by a licensed soccer coach at the Y at Windsor. Spring & Fall All About Soccer ages 5 & 6: This soccer class is a great way for your beginner to learn drills and techniques for soccer, without playing soccer in a league. Your child will be taught by a licensed soccer coach at the Y at Windsor. Spring & Fall U4 Recreational Soccer ages 2.5-4: Teach your little one the value of being on a team and teamwork. This league is great for beginners to learn basic skills and to make friends. Games played at the Y at Windsor. March BB&T Atlanta Open: This is Atlanta’s only men’s ATP tournament, and the Y is proud to be the charitable partner for this event. And because of this partnership, members are able to purchase discounted tickets to certain sessions. Look for more information at the branch and via email. July/August Healthy Kids Day all ages: This annual event is our national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids. Bring your kids for a fun-filled few hours of games, inflatables and other activities to keep you moving! April SUMMER Summer Fun in the Sun all ages: On summer holidays, join us by the pool to play games, slide on our inflatable water slide, eat hot dogs and hamburgers, listen to music and hang out with friends and family.
