Bed & Breakfast Etiquette
Staying at a Bed & Breakfast may be a new and wonderful experience. Here are a few points to consider
helping make your stay as pleasant as possible.
• If you have special dietary requirements, inform
your host when you book.
• Ask about cancellation and refund policies when
you book.
• Let your hosts know when you plan to arrive and
call if the time changes.
• If you haven’t made a reservation, phone first before
dropping by.
• Before you first come into the B&B, knock or ring
the bell. It is a private residence.
• Confirm check-in and out times or any special
arrangements that may need to be made for your
arrival or departure.
• Respect the hosts’ private areas of the B&B.
• When sharing a bathroom, be mindful that others
are waiting.
• Keep showers short to conserve hot water.
• Keep personal articles and towels in your room if
there is a shared bathroom.
• Inquire ahead of time if special services such as baby
sitting, laundry or fridge space will be available or if
your host can help.
• Show up for breakfast at the agreed upon time.
• Introduce yourself to the other guests if the host is
busy.
• If you’re staying more than one night, be aware that
hosts don’t always make beds; they don’t want to
intrude on your privacy.
• Relax and enjoy what each B&B has to offer. You are
