Simplify scoring for reading placements.
I was in a huge crisis with testing the entire school every quarter for reading placement. The tests had to be scored
and new groups in place in less than a week! The tests given to me were to be all hand scored! I sat down and
decided that I would redesign the test so that I could administer them on Scantron 888P. It was awesome when I

Before I became school librarian, I was
an English III teacher. Many English
tests are subjective, involving compositions
and short-answer essays. Being able to use
Scantron forms to grade the objective
portions of the tests gave me the extra
time I needed to evaluate the compositions.
Now, as librarian, I have shown many
teachers how to use the Scantron grade
machine and it saves everyone who uses

AP class gains more time to teach.
I teach an AP class, so giving multiplechoice questions is one of the ways that

allow me time to make my lessons more

Select the method of TALLYING survey results:
• If you are using Models 888P, 888P+, or the Scantron Score, use Tally
Form 9870 to tally survey results.
• If you are using Model 888MP, use the LED readout on your
machine to tally survey results.
STEP 2
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS for Form 40-S.
Process the forms as if you were
conducting two separate surveys.
1. Process the survey key.
2. Process the first 20 questions and
tally the results.
3. Turn the machine OFF.
4. Process the second batch of 20
questions and tally the results.
Create a SURVEY KEY. Use a single BLANK survey form, identical to the
form being used by the survey participants, then set tally options
by filling in the bubbles at the top of the form (directly above each column with the thick black lines):
• Fill in the 5 bubble on both sides of the form to indicate this is the key.
• Fill in the 3 bubble if you have more than 999 surveys; the machine can only tally 999 surveys at a
time. See Step #6, below, for details.
• Fill in the % bubble only if you need to see results in a percentage format.
STEP 3
If you are processing more than 999 surveys, divide your surveys into separate groups of fewer than 999
forms. The machine can only tally a maximum of 999 surveys at a time.
STEP 4
Turn the machine ON.
STEP 5
Process the SURVEY KEY. If you are using a two-sided survey form, make certain to feed side #1 of the form first,
immediately followed by side # 2.
STEP 6
Process the SURVEY FORMS. If you are using a two-sided survey form, make certain to feed side #1 of the form
first, immediately followed by side # 2.
STOP! If you have processed 999 forms, do NOT process any more surveys. Do NOT turn off the machine.
Process a single Tally Form 9870 at a time.
STEP 7
If you are using Models 888P, 888P+, or the Scantron Score, the last step to get the results is to process Tally Form 9870.
If you are using Model 888MP, you do not need a tally sheet. Press the button next to the LED readout once to
see how many people participated in the survey. Press it again to see how many people chose “a” for question
#1; press it again to see how many chose “b”, etc.
STEP 8
For more than 999 surveys, turn the machine OFF and repeat steps 4 through 7.

Election Ballots Are a Snap
Create a Ballot:
STEP 1
Select a Scantron BALLOT FORM.

Create an instruction sheet informing the voter which number on the ballot corresponds to a candidate’s
name. For example, the instruction sheet would tell the voter to fill #1 to vote for Sonya Hopp or #5 to vote
for Karen Wright.

Tally Ballots:

see how many people voted. Press it again to see how many people voted for Candidate #1; press it again to
see how many voted for Candidate #2, etc.
