powerful turbopumps, under the name of HiPace,
have a range of pumping
speeds between 10 to 700
liters per second. The
pumps are characterized by
their high cost-effectiveness and their flexibility.
The improved rotor design gives both, high pumping speeds and high gas
throughputs, coupled with very good compression for
light gases.The integrated HiPace drive electronics reduce cabling needs. The use of innovative materials has
doubled the service life of the drives and runup time has
been reduced. Remote and sensor functionalities allow
analysis of pump data. Their aluminum housings make
them extremely light in weight and a sealing gas connection safeguards the bearings against particulate

Pentium M 1.8GHz is one of

The 410M series manifolds
are designed to accommodate the 310/410 series
inline pneumatic valves
enabling the mounting of
both 3-way and 4-way
valves on the same manifold, with the 310 series
mounting orientation determining the normally
closed (NC) or normally open (NO) function. Manifolds
are available in 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12 station lengths. They contain two galleys; a common media supply port and a common vent/exhaust port that are isolated for separation of pressure, media or exhaust. Accessories include manifold station block-off plates, a separate air
supply plate, electrical sockets, valve mounting kit,
DIN rail clips and a separate 12-station control board.
310 series valves have a 0.12 CV; 410 series valves have
a 0.14CV. Both are rated for air and inert gas from vacuum at 28-inches Hg to 125psig. The continuous duty
coil has a consumption of 4.0Watts and a range of
voltages.

Phoenix Contact acquires Innominate
Security Technologies
On the fourth
day of the
Hanover Fair,
Roland Bent,
Member of the
Executive
Board,
announced in
Hanover that
Phoenix Contact has acquired Innominate Security Technologies. The company specializes
in Industrial Security and provides the software for the security devices FL MGuard by
Phoenix Contact. The new device family, presented on the Hanover Fair for the first time,
offers an industrial firewall / router solution for
distributed automation systems. The takeover
is with immediate effect. The Berlin-based
company currently has around 20 employees.
Being a specialist for industrial security technology, Innominate is an important supplier for
machine and systems engineering. Therefore,
the acquisition of Innominate is a strategic
enhancement of Phoenix Contact automation
technology.

Servo Controls Growth of the Motion Market
The global market for general purpose motion
controls was estimated to have increased by over
$480 million between 2006 and 2007, reaching
an estimated value of $6,208 million according
to the latest study by IMS Research. Whilst
this growth is considerably less than the 13.4%
experienced in 2006, it still remains significantly higher than that of general industry. This
is mainly due to the rapidly increasing market
for servo products, which currently accounts for
80% of the total motion control market. IMS
Research analyst Rob Carter comments "The
growth of the Asia Pacific market for servo products remains primarily dictated by the growth
of industry, particularly in developing regions
such as China and India. However, the Western
markets of EMEA and Americas are also impacted by the spread of high functionality servo products into mid-range and low-end applications.”
COMAU implements B&R control technology
The Turin-based Fiat subsidiary COMAU Robotics will be using exclusively B&R technology in
the area of automation. For its articulated
arm robots, COMAU will be using series C5G of
the modular servo drive system ACOPOSmulti. The latest industrial PC generation, the
APC810 with Core 2 Duo technology, and the
X20 system will be used to control the system. A Powerlink interface will allow simple
integration of the hardware components into
COMAU's proven CNC logic. "By implementing
B&R's integrated automation solutions, we
are laying the foundation for a technological
partnership that will generate long-term competitive advantages," explains Maurizio Filoni,
Chief Operating Officer of COMAU Robotics.
The key factors in the decision - in addition to
B&R's innovative state-of-the-art products were the benefits of the real-time Ethernet protocol Powerlink and the integrated safety
technology.

Hinge Switches
with 2 safety contacts
The SI-HG63 hinge switches
are used in place of the standard hinges on swinging
guards, gates or doors. They
offer two normally closed
safety contacts and one normally open auxiliary contact
for greater application flexibility. When the SI-HG63
hinge switch is activated,
these normally closed safety
contacts are forced open by a nonresilient mechanical
means (not reliant on springs), interrupting the electrical circuit and sending a stop signal to the machine control. SI-HG63 hinge switches are also repositionable, with
a safety switching point that is easily adjustable (±1.5°)
throughout the hinge’s full 0-270° range of motion. The
hinge switches are built to withstand harsh plant environments, with each safety switch body integrated into a highly robust PBT housing and integrated on to a
stainless steel hinge. They are rated IEC IP67. Each
hinge can support an axial and radial load of 1200N (approximately 120kg).

The portable TMSP 1 sound pressure meter has been designed to
be carried around and used wherever it is needed to carry out
checks quickly and simply, minimising both time and costs. The
ergonomic instrument picks up
environmental noise of between
30 to 130dB through an electret
condenser microphone and then
produces a sound reading in decibels on the handset. The device is
extremely simple to use, featuring
a backlit display for improved visibility in poorly lit environments
and displaying results either digitally or as a bar graph for quick
analysis. Due to its intuitive design, the TMSP 1 can be
used with no special training, once again, reducing
the cost of health and safety processes. Able to take accurate readings at ±1.5dB, the TMSP 1 can record noise
levels either quantitatively or qualitatively depending
on user requirements.

These PentaLine rotary vane pumps
were developed for applications in the
low- and medium-vacuum range of
down to 10-3mbar. The pumps cover
pumping speeds of up to 35m3/h. A
standby operating mode assures
longer service life as well as cost savings in maintenance. The pumps
are hermetically sealed, preventing
oil leaks. In addition, they incorporate
a motor concept that makes them easy
to deploy. They run noiselessly and
with minimum vibration.

The toughened Supreme 3HT
was formulated for curing at
a temperature range and time
scenarios, of 104 to 177°C. At
177°C it sets in 30 to 60 seconds
and cures in 5 to 10 minutes.
Tensile shear strengths in excess of 1800psi and T-peel
strengths over 20pli are readily obtained. The service temperature ranges from below 73°C to over 175°C. Adhesion to metals, glass, ceramics, wood,
vulcanized rubbers and many plastics is excellent.

and side actuation. With an
extended temperature range
and long electrical and mechanical life, it was developed especially for AMC applications. Maximum actuation force is 35g. Pre-travel is 0.30mm with over-travel of

contact rating of 1mA at 5VDC. Operating temperature ranges
from -40 to 85°C.

The RS232 Battery

The T3, is a highly innovative turbo-machinery
tip-timing eddy current
probe combined with
an advanced triple-output driver. It provides
highly reliable information on blade health,
and is of particular benefit to those manufacturing or maintaining gas turbines,
helicopters and aero engines. The T3 driver unit has an
anodized aluminium enclosure, weighs 0.2kg and measures 62.5 x 29.5 x 78.8mm. It produces a 5V trigger and
generates three outputs: processed blade tip pulse arrival time, scaled blade tip clearance and raw eddy
current analogue signal. The standard eddy current
probe is 12mm in diameter with a mounting flange diameter of 25mm. The overall height of the probe is
16.5mm of which the mounting flange occupies 8mm.
The probe comes fitted with a 10m cable as standard,

low-range measurements of turbidity levels in both drinking
water and industrial water treatment applications. In clean water applications, the unique sensor flowcell eliminates sample degassing for precise and reliable
results. In dirty water applications,
the Auto-Clean system allows
reliable accurate measurement without the need for constant cleaning. The A15/76 is capable of achieving precise measurements between 0.001 NTU and 4000 NTU
within a single system. A planer sensor is used with the
light source and photo detector mounted on a flat
face. The signal generated by the detector is amplified
inside the sensor for transmission to the display unit. Periodic pulsing of the light source allows the sensor zero to be adjusted automatically for improved stability
in low-range applications. Dual beam technology compensates for any sensor fouling or long term degradation of the light source or detector.

The matching system for IO-Link
sensor and actuator connections
covers components and the integration in Totally Integrated Automation. The portfolio of IO-Link
devices ranges from colour sensors, laser-based clearance sensors
and ultrasonic sensors to two
field distribution modules. Interfacing to the distributed
peripheral is via an ET200S module. Parameters for
the entire system are set in Step 7 via the IO-Link configuration tool and the IO-Link system is integrated in
the Simatic automation network. The compact field distribution modules are rated to strict protection type IP67;
they are designed for field service and are ideally suited for connecting small clusters of sensors on the system being monitored/controlled. A maximum of eight
binary sensors or limit switches can be connected to the
module equipped with the IO-Link interface. This module is connected to the IO-Link master module in the
ET200S distributed peripheral system - thus avoiding signal wiring in the control cabinet. Standard M8 and
M12 connectors simplify assembly on site.
This easy-to-use handheld thermal camera
has a 320 x 240 resolution UFPA detector that

OM6062
Designed for operation in standard applications, the CP-POCKET is
a cost effective solution for 3U CompactPCI applications. With an
integrated CPU (CP307-V, CP306-V or CP303-V) and a wide range
of I/O boards, CP-POCKET provides outstanding potential for system expansion.
The OM6062 is a cost optimized AMC platform dedicated (but not limited)
for industrial automation and medical applications. It supports any standard compliant AMCs, but in comparison to conventional MicroTCA platforms, the OM6062 achieves significant cost improvements through a simplified design. Among the simplifications are: the mechanical concept (no
redundancy, cube design facilitates cooling), pluggable Power Supply Units
instead of MicroTCA Power Modules, Power Management and Fan Control
on the backplane.
CP-POCKET is available in both an AC and a
DC standard version. Each with a 75 Watt power supply and a 4-slot CompactPCI backplane.

The halogen-free DeviceBus cables are steel
wire armoured for use
in public areas and/or
demanding industrial
applications. When
compared to products
containing halogens
(such as PVC), these
halogen-free cables offer considerable safety advantages. In the event of a fire,
including minimal release of toxic gases, reduced impairment of vision, no release of highly caustic acids - in short,
significantly improved safety for man, nature and materials. For harsh industrial environments where mechanical protection for cables is critical, the SWA (Steel
Wire Armoured) versions feature an inner jacket which
matches the dimensions of the un-armoured types.
The physical dimensions of these cables match those of
standard PVC products, thus eliminating the need for
special connectivity or cable-glands. The single galvanized steel wires of the armour are applied in a tension
free process and are in accordance with EN 50288-1.
The INTELLiGauge is
a cost-effective and
reliable solution.
From only one measuring point they offer on-site measurement without the
need for an external power supply, also meaning the operator even knows
the process value after a power failure. At the same time, the information
transmitted, via an electrical signal from a transmitter
or a pressure switch, can be, for example, displayed on
a control panel or processed through a PLC. The hybrid
instruments are available with all established electrical
signals. The non-contact sensors are wear-free and
without backlash. These gauges guarantee extremely
high reliability. The design enables the entire mechanical product programme to be used. Thus the new
combi-pressure gauges will, in the future, be available
in all nominal sizes (up to 160).
The compact temperature
recording module TI214
provides 14 measuring
channels. Each channel can
be individually configured
for Pt100 or Pt1000 sensors
and type J and K thermocouples. In the case of short
connection lines, the platinum sensors with proven
two-conductor technology
are attached. For higher
precision or greater cable
lengths, three-conductor
measurement can be used.
Thanks to an averaged
presentation of the measuring results, the measurements
are less susceptible to interference. The high 14 bits resolution permits precise further processing of the recorded temperature values. All the customary process and
ambient temperatures are covered with the wide measuring range (Pt100/Pt1000: from -100 to 800°C, thermocouples: from -20 to 1,000°C).

of stepper motors in

are often selected as
reliable low-cost drive
elements. Stepper motors provide high
torque even at low
speed. This simplifies the mechanical design for many

Conveyor Chains

In order to provide
maintenance-free operation of the new
power and free conveyor chains, the
Megalife conveyor
chains features a special link with specially
sintered metal bushes and running rollers.
In addition, the chains
feature a built-in lubricant reservoir which supplies
the chain links and running rollers with lubricant during the chain operation: The sintered material is saturated with oil under vacuum conditions. The surface of
the chains are lubricant-free new and do not need to
be relubricated during use. Plastic and hardened steel
versions of the conveyor chains (V2A-steel or nickel-plated) are available. Chains with steel rollers can be used
at a temperature range from -40 to 160°C, while versions
with plastic conveying rollers are suitable for up to
80°C. Megalife power and free conveyor chains are
available with pitches of 12.70 and 19.05mm.

The linear rail system
uses a precision leadscrew assembly to provide controlled positioning along the axis of
a robust linear slide. It
consists of a stationary
base with a load bearing carriage that travels along a custom-extruded wear
resistant aluminum rail. An external linear actuator is
used but various leads and shaft end configurations can
accommodate virtually any source of rotary power.
The systems also offer control of slide bearing play
with a patent pending self adjusting linear bearing
and high precision anti-backlash nuts.

routing applications using tool paths generated in computer aided
manufacturing (CAM)
software, the CamPro
CADCAM system can

The P220/G series is a
range of threaded switch
probes whose length is
half that of standard
switch probes, making
them suitable for applications where space is
limited. The probes are
designed for 4mm centre applications, and
each device has a working travel of 4mm, a switch
travel of 1.7mm and a working spring force available
in steps of 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0N. In combination with the
R220/G-K or R220/GW-K receptacles, the switching
probes permit 1.0mm height adjustment.
The Easylon VNI router offers
high performance for connections between networks conforming to EIA-709.1 as well
as to IP networks following
the standard EIA-852 (LON
over IP). It ensures the theoretically possible maximum
data throughput of TP/FT networks thus ensuring data security. Two connections for LON-TP/FT networks are
provided and devices with TP/XF connections are optional. Connections to IP networks are via a 100MBit Ethernet interface. It is especially suited to flat network hierarchies. A web interface is available for simple parameterization of the router.

These Power Solid-State
Relays (PSSR) are available
as single- and three-phase
versions. In comparison
with contactors and standard relays PSSRs switch
without any wear and are
totally silent. The modules
have a high peak load rating and as such have sufficient reserves to trip line-side
fuses. They can easily cope with capacitive and inductive current spikes. With integrated zero-voltage switching, single-phase PSSRs are eminently suitable for
switching resistive loads up to 20A in 55°C heat. Threephase PSSRs are designed with instantaneous switching
functionality and are suitable for use in motor controls
deployed in mechanical and systems engineering applications. Both PSSR 1PH and PSSR 3PH versions are
ready-to-use; meaning users simply snap them onto
the mounting rail and connect them. The components
are designed to be utilised in industrial, process automation and power generation applications requiring protection class ratings IP20 and IP67.
This range is made
from polytetrafluoretheylene (PTFE) and
is available in three
different models. The
Smoothflex, smooth
bore, non convoluted model is made from ultra hygienic material with a stainless steel helix to offer maximum
flexibility. This hose boasts good vacuum and kink resistance and performs well in extreme conditions. The
Easycrimp hose is a low profile, helically convoluted model. This means that instead of rings, there is a helix inside the pipe which makes for easy cleaning as the
product simply flows out. It is designed specially for tail
fittings and assembly without de-convoluting the inner
liner. The Coreflex is a helically convoluted model with
external vacuum wire. Ideal for high vacuum hose applications this suction/ pressure hose has excellent mechanical strength and kink resistance. Teflon PTFE is impervious to almost all known chemicals and is UV resistant. Combined with a temperature range of -60 to
260°C and sizes ranging from 3-150mm, this product is
unique and problem solving.

board for the E-TA 19BGT 19" rack
offers a cost-effective approach for
applications in factory automation,
the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and telecommunications, by reducing wiring times. Designed for an
array of single-pole or double-pole circuit breakers
with a maximum of 30 poles in total it allows for wiring
of up to 30 channels using single-pole circuit breakers,
up to 15 channels with double-pole circuit breakers, or
twice 15 channels of single-pole when used redundantly with two separate circuits. The new PCBs, with
integral terminal blocks, offer fast and professional
connection in control cabinets. The terminal blocks
are soldered on to the front of the PCB: on the rear side

The roboTest F robotic testing system is designed for flexible specimens, such as films,
textiles and fleece materials,
but even metals and wires can
be tested using the corresponding grips and tooling. The
system allows testing to be
carried out overnight and at
weekends thereby reducing
the need for shift working.
In addition it is possible to
carry out testing using unsupervised or relatively unskilled
operators. Robotic testing systems simplify the processes required for quality management systems such as ISO
9001 because the testing sequence is pre-programmed,
and not subject to human error. Results and long term
statistics are also available in real-time helping to minimise communication inefficiencies between different
production processes. The testing systems were developed with a modular design concept which allows
testing sequences to be changed or adapted to customer
specific requirements.
The JCI 140 Static Monitor features the capability to monitor 50/60Hz
alternating electric field
signals as well as traditional quasi-continuous
fields. This enables the
level of mains frequency
electric fields to be measured in sensitive work areas. It is also relevant for assessing the electric fields that may arise from equipment and
near high voltage power lines. The frequency response
of the standard JCI 140 has been increased to -3dB at
over 100Hz. This is sufficient for good quality measurement of 50/60Hz signals via the instrument analogue
output. Instrument sensitivity enables the voltages on
surfaces to be measured to a Volt at 100mm (4”). Noise
is now equivalent to less than 1V r.m.s. of surface voltage. Prospective applications include monitoring the alternating electric fields that may arise from poorly
shielded air ionisation equipment, outdoor electric
fields and the uniformity of charge neutralisation on
fast moving webs of plastic films.

The FSA level indicator,
thanks to a completely
new oscillator technique
which automatically compensates for the container wall, opens up new
fields of application with
simplified handling. The
indicator reliably detects all
liquids having dipolar properties, such as aqueous media. The non-conducting
container wall is automatically compensated for, so
that condensation effects on the container interior
and exterior wall do not affect the reliability of the measurement. Build-up, contamination and liquid films or foam
are also reliably masked. The result is the first truly precise capacitive level sensor. In contrast to conventional sensors, the level detector does not have to be readjusted either in-process or when replacing the medium.
This represents a considerable time savings and helps
to prevent errors. The usual regular cleaning of the sensor and container becomes almost superfluous, so that
the new sensor pays for itself in an extremely short time.

low maintenance service life, the new T7EEC
pump is particularly
suitable for use in applications where space
is limited. It offers pressure ratings of up to
275bar and total displacement of up to 554ml/rev. The

TopGear MAG internal gear pumps are
magnetically driven and thus seal-less
by design. The pumps were specifically
developed for handling low or high viscosity hazardous or toxic liquids , or for
liquids which are problematic to sealoff. They provide a maximum capacity of
80m3/h, a maximum differential pressure of 16bar and can operate on liquids
with a maximum temperature of 250°C.
The pumps are available with silicone
carbide bearings.
These crimp housings are available as
single or double row version with different coding and locking options. The
crimp contacts are offered for use with
AWG 22-26 wires and can be purchased
either loose or on reel for automatic assembly. Special coding features on the pinheaders are taking care of a polarized mating between pinheader and socket. All connectors out of this new series can be
used with an operating voltage of 250VAC
and a rated current of 3A.

These circular connectors provide reliable connections for a wide cable range
from 25 up to 300mm2, the connectors
feature multipoint contacts offering very

(DMM) is designed to help
utility electrical contractors and industrial electricians to quickly diagnose
electrical problems. It meets
the latest safety standards

The PR5001 is a dual
photo diode for the
near infrared range
with minimum footprint. An active area
of two times 0.75
x1.2mm is packaged
in a small clear DFN
package with a size
of only 1.8 x 2.9mm.
With separate cathodes and a common
anode the diode offers a very low dark current in the
range of less than 100pA at reverse voltages of up to
20V. The capacitance of the photo diodes of less than
60pF at 10Volts allows the use for light signals of
higher frequency. The applied ModuS U6 process allows economic production of large sized photo diodes
with a high yield and less impurity traps. Thus a very
uniform sensitivity across both elements can be
achieved, which is important for position detection.
PR5001 has its peak sensitivity in the near infrared range
around 890nm.
The Abox GT range
of extreme environment electrical enclosures uses an extremely durable and easy
to use gel fill system
to protect electrical
connections even after prolonged exposure to water, soil,
sand or grit. The IP68rated enclosure system will even withstand extended
periods of total immersion. Abox GT enclosures are
suitable for any application where electrical connections
must be protected from the wet. Typical uses are in flood
prone areas, washing installations, tunnels, docks and
agricultural or horticultural applications. The gel is a twopart mixture designed for easy mixing and installation in the toughest site conditions. A handy mixer
bag included with every box can be used to prepare and
insert exactly the right amount of gel. Once cured,
the gel filled enclosures are shock and fracture-proof,
UV-resistant and exhibit low flammability.

Designated the H & HQ
Series, the flat face couplings are engineered for
longer life, greater durability and better flow characteristics. A paramount criterion was to meet the
new life test specified in ISO
16028:1999/Amd.1:2006(E),
which has increased from
a hundred thousand to
one million pressure pulse
cycles. After successfully
completing the one million cycle tests, inspection of the
new couplings indicated they still had plenty of working life left. An additional user benefit is a reduction in
the pressure drop, which has been achieved by using 3D
CAD to optimise the flow path. H Series couplings have
a zinc plated finish and are ideal for general plant applications. HQ Series couplings are finished with a new
'high impact' hardening process, which gives them a silver grey colour. It helps make them more resistant to
Brinelling, wear and corrosion.
This DC-operated position sensor is springloaded and offers a
two-wire, loop powered 4–20mA operation. Built-in loop powered electronics result
in a position sensor
that operates from a
DC input and generates a 4-20mA output that interfaces with many PLCs,
computer-based data processors, and QC data collection
systems. Operating over a wide range of loop supply voltages and with loop resistances up to 800ohms, the
GHSI 750 position sensor is suitable for use in machine
tool inspection, go/no/go inspection, and statistical
quality control info or as part of a closed-loop control
system. Hermetically sealed and constructed entirely of
stainless steel, the coil windings are sealed against
hostile environments to IEC standard IP-68. These position sensors can be installed in hasardous locations while
the wiring connected to power supplies, indicators
and controllers are in a safe environment.

The Mass-View flow meter
series is a no-nonsense, digital alternative to the conventional VA meter (variable area
meter) or rotameter. Employing the latest OLED (organic
light emitting diode) technology, as used in mobile
phones and MP3 players, the
Mass-View flow meter series
incorporates a digital bar
graph of actual gas flow,
which is clearly visible from all
angles, as well as indicating flow units, fluid type and
totalised figures. Also available with an optional in-built
needle valve for flow control duties, it is designed to mimic the straightforward features and vertical format of
the VA meter, but with the considerable added benefits of an electronic output signal, measuring accuracy
as high as ±0.5%, virtual independence from gas temperature and pressure variations, freedom from parallax error and inherently safe construction, with no
fragile glass components in the flow path.
A new high performance
laser sensor is specifically
designed for optical distance measurement with
direct reflecting materials, including highly polished metal, mirrored objects, glass and chromeplated products. The optoNCDT 1700DR has a resolution of 0.1µm at a measuring rate of 2.5kHz (without using an averaging filter). It comes in three measuring ranges: 2mm, 10mm and 20mm. The optoNCDT
1700DR operates using the laser triangulation principle.
A laser diode projects a visible point of light onto the
surface of the target object. The light reflected from this
point is then projected onto a CCD array. If the target
changes position with respect to the sensor, the movement of the reflected light is projected on the CCD array and analysed to output the exact position of the target. The measurements are processed digitally in the integral controller. The data is output via analogue (I/U)
and digital interface RS422 or USB.

the router in question
utilises OSPF functionality to automatically establish
an alternative route within the network. OSPF is a dynamic routing protocol within a system that describes
the status of the links between data networks. As a rule,
routers are deployed in two different types of applications: they separate Ethernet networks for reasons of data security or to facilitate even simpler configurations.
And, in addition, they open up access to the Internet.
Routers convey data between the individual networks.
Each device must be configured to meet this requirement.
The administrator specifies which hub is responsible
for which network. When the network increases in size
so does the amount of administration needed, which in
turn increases the likelihood of errors occurring.

simply a nominal peak
figure. For larger ultrasonic tank systems this
equates to fewer generators being required and real
savings to be made. The generator can operate in a variety of ultrasonic applications, in aqueous, solvent or
viscous liquids, and can be tailored by the operator to
produce the quality of ultrasonic activity required, as dictated by the component complexity or by the substrate. The generator has the ability to control precisely the ramp-up of power delivery so it can deliver a surge
of power to jump start cavitation in viscous liquids or
it can feed in power incrementally to obviate damage
to delicate items such as electronic circuits.
