Lodge 49 Milwaukee, Wisconsin Loyal Order of Moose Women of the Moose Chapter 345 Moose Legion 31 1914-2016 102 years, Vol 102-2 “ Th e M es s e ng e r ” M arc h /A p r il , 2 0 1 6 We now have a new Sunday cook who will prepare you a great Sunday Breakfast. Join us and check it out! Don’t forget we have a suggestion Bob Pfeiffer box in the lobby. I check the box weekly. Feel free to make suggestions. We always value your comments. On April 9th, we are having an Antique Appraiser, Mark Moran, at our Lodge. Members interested in bringing in antiques are limited to two items only. You must pay a fee of $10.00 for this appraiser. We are limited to 49 members who may be interested in this. You must have a reservation and a time slot will be given and set aside for you. Check out his website at: www.markfmoran.com More details are on page 8. If you have questions, call Bob, at 414-764-1135. On Saturday, April 16th, we are having the first ever Moose Comedy Show at our Lodge. Join us for this fun-filled night of laughter! See more details on page 11. A wonderful time was had by our members at the 102nd Anniversary Celebration. The kitchen staff and servers did an excellent job. Congrats to the raffle winners! Fraternally, Bob Pfeiffer, Administrator It’s so great to see large turnouts for our meals. The food is great and you cannot beat the price. Where else can you go have dinner and dancing for the price. This is a great way to support your Lodge, and at the same time, socialize with other Lodge members. In April, we will have Election of Officers. This will take place at the April 12th meeting. Be sure to attend and cast your ballot. If you want to know what is happening at the Lodge, attend the Membership Meetings and get the information firsthand. The meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month; however, be sure to always check the calendar, page 3, should there be any changes. Meetings last approximately one hour. The Board of Officers does value your input. A reminder: in an effort to increase membership and attendance at our fantastic Sunday Buffet, the Board approved a program, whereby, an “established member” may bring in a qualified guest to receive a breakfast, free of charge and one time only, as a way of introducing them to Lodge 49 and our Moose organization. These Sunday brunches for prospective new members are held on the last Sunday following the Saturday Birthday Dinner. 1 LODGE 49 LOOM BOARD OF OFFICERS 2015-2016 Governor Keith Balash Jr Past Governor Vacant Jr. Governor Vacant Prelate Wally Kohnke Treasurer/Secretary Basil Tsetsas 1 Year Trustee Jim Galbraith 2 Year Trustee Pat Braden 3 Year Trustee Vacant Inner Guard Vacant Outer Guard Vacant Administrator Bob Pfeiffer WOTM CHAPTER 345 BOARD OF OFFICERS Senior Regent Barbara Toth Junior Regent Arline Janczak Jr. Grad Regent Betty Rasmussen Secretary/Treasurer Sharon Pizur Recorder Kathie Staszak A M E S S A G E F R O M YO U R G O V E R N O R Greetings To All Good Men and Women Moose Members! As the mild winter season is closing out, we look forward to longer hours of light and the return of warmth and sunshine coming our way. Soon the trees will begin to blossom and the grass will once Keith Balash again become green. Governor With the term of the current Board of Officers coming to an end, I want to personally send out a “BIG THANK YOU” to each and every Officer for their dedication, service, time, and devotion while serving as a Board Member and assisting in the daily operations of Milwaukee Moose Lodge #49. With these fine individuals serving in such an important role, the activities and vision of what the Moose Fraternity stands for is reinforced now and into the future. The state of Milwaukee Lodge #49 is now very stable and the Lodge has shown growth and prosperity, both at the local level of the Lodge and even to a larger scale in the Community. As we continue to plan and host future activities and events that are enjoyable and profitable, we must continue to know and realize the importance of our ongoing support of Mooseheart, Moosehaven, and Moose Charities. In the month of March, the Nominating Committee will be established and will meet for the purpose of approving candidates for the final ballot with the annual elections scheduled on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 7:00 pm. If you are the type of individual that enjoys challenges and would like to become more involved in the dayto-day operations of the Lodge, a position on the Board just might be what your life has been without. This organization relies on the leadership, ideas, and suggestions of various individuals, not just a few. As I have said in the past, Teamwork is the way to accomplish goals and tasks within any organization. Your annual individual membership should not be considered the admissions ticket to the event that allow you to sit on the sidelines as a spectator, but rather the ticket that gets you into the event, onto the field to run and carry the ball across the line and score points, hopefully to be named as the “Most Valuable Member!” The past months saw remarkable events with our 102nd Lodge Anniversary Party and Valentine’s Day celebration. The event was attended well by our membership, the food was outstanding, and the entertainment kept our patrons engaged and out on the dance floor having fun! The Lodge will once again celebrate the “Luck of the Irish” with our St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Saturday, March 12th. A new event coming to the Lodge on April 16th is an evening of fun and constant laughing by our members as we host a Comedy Show Night. Please refer to the flyers in the Messenger for specific details; and as always, reservations are important and necessary to insure everyone is accommodated. Thanks to all the VOLUNTEERS who have helped out during my term in office these past two years. You’re appreciated more than you realize! Best of health to all our members and stay safe driving to and from events at the Lodge. Fraternally, Keith Balash, Governor Displaying a POSITIVE ATTITUDE at the Lodge and treating fellow members with KINDNESS and RESPECT goes a long way in what the Moose Fraternity stands for and is all about. 2 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat 1 Sheepshead 5pm 2 AYCE Dinner 5-6:30 Spaghetti & Meatballs 3 Closed On Thursdays 4 Fish Fry 5-8pm 5 March Madness Filet Mignon Remember When 9 Dinner 5-6:30 10 11 Fish Fry 5-8pm Red Deacon 6 Breakfast Buffet 9:00-12 noon Early Bingo 12:30 Reg Bingo 1:45 Progressive 3:15 7 Closed 13 14 Breakfast Buffet 9:00-12 noon Moose Legion Mtg. 10:45 Bingo as above LOOM Brd 7pm WOTM 7pm Chapter Mtg 8 Nominating Committee 7pm Sheepshead 5pm Red Deacon Breaded Pork Chops 15 16 5-6:30 Mock Chicken Legs Jam Session WOTM Board Mtg. 6:30 pm 17 23 Dinner 5-6:30 24 LOOM Membership 7pm Nominating Committee 7pm Sheepshead 5pm Red Deacon 20 21 22 District 3 Mtg Nominating Committee 7pm Milwaukee Breakfast Buffet 6:30 Light Dinner Sheepshead 5pm and Bingo Mtg. to follow as listed above Red Deacon 27 28 29 LOOM Easter Buffet Joint Brd 6:30 9am-1pm LOOM Brd 7pm Membership 7pm See Ad Pg. 10 Sheepshead 5pm WOTM No Bingo! Birthday Dinners Question: Who may come to a birthday dinner at the Moose Lodge and do you need an invitation letter to attend? Answer: It is true that for the month of your birthday, you will receive a letter inviting you to a “FREE” birthday dinner. You may also bring your guests at the normal price of the dinner. However, if the member’s birthday is not in that month, you may still come but all meals will be paid for and you must make a reservation in advance. Planning A Party And Don’t Know Where To Have It? How Are You Feeling? If you or someone in your family or circle of friends is about to have a party soon, you will be in need of a nice affordable hall. Consider having your celebration in the Milwaukee Moose Lodge 49 hall. Our hall is very attractive and can be decorated. It can hold 50-225 guests easily. There is a rental charge that includes clean-up. We also offer in-house catering service with attractive menus and prices. For more details, please call the Lodge Office between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm at 414-281-4444. If you or a Brother Moose Member is sick, hospitalized or distressed, please notify the Lodge. A “Get Well” card will be sent to the sick or bed-ridden members. Also, with the approval of the patient, family and hospital staff, personal visits may be arranged. With the permission of the patient or sick person, the progress of their condition will be announced at the general membership meetings. Getting sick is no fun, so let us know when it happens so that we may send a little ray of sunshine on an otherwise grim situation. 12
