From Bob Towson:
I’ve won poster
contests in the past,
including The Greater
Gulf Coast Arts
Festival (2000), and the
Pensacola Jazz Fest
(2001, 2004). So, I like a
challenge and decided
to try the Gulf Shores
Shrimp Fest (again).
As an airbrush artist on
the Gulf Coast for 18
years, I was exposed
to a lot of various styles and learned to design and
paint for the T-shirt. I brought some of that whacky,
cartooney influence to this piece. The heavy lines and
bold colors, with balloon lettering comes from the
60’s and 70’s when I was coming of age artistically
and reading Zap Comix. Album cover art of that era
influenced this composition as well.
Bob Towson
It feels GREAT to win this prestigious (yet very cool)
poster competition. I started airbrushing at the Beach
Bum in Spring of ‘87 in Gulf Shores, so I feel like I’ve
come full circle in some respects. I studied art at
Murray St Univ. in western Kentucky before becoming
an Illustrator/Draftsman in the Navy, fashion illustrator
for Gayfers in Pensacola, advertising artist at the News
Journal and starting quite an eclectic freelance art
run. My oil painting, THE WOUNDED was juried into
America’s Top 100 in 2011 and also published in the
University of South Alabama’s “Oracle of Fine Arts
Review” that same year. Once again, I am grateful for
having my design selected for this year’s poster.

from the chairman
On behalf of the Shrimp Festival committee and
the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, let me
welcome you to the 43rd Annual National Shrimp
Festival presented by Zatarain’s. Thank you for joining
us in our long standing and fun tradition held directly on the Gulf
of Mexico. What started as a one day event, held under the traffic
light at the end of Highway 59, has now grown into a four day
festival covering several city blocks with hundreds of booths. Our
growth is a result of great visitors like you!
This event showcases a great community of warm and friendly people filled with
southern hospitality. The Shrimp Festival committee, which is mostly volunteer,
works very hard to provide that environment for your enjoyment. We search for the
best local and regional artists, entertainers, retailers, and food vendors.
You should find just what you want to eat with dozens of seafood and non-seafood
vendors. Our Fine Artists will display beautiful pieces of original work for your
enjoyment and purchase. Arts and Crafts provide a wide variety of items small and
large for you to consider showcasing in your home or condo. The Retail section has
something for everyone. The new Outdoor Village is for the outdoorsman in all of us.
And, don’t forget to buy your updated Shrimp Festival gear. After all, it only comes
once a year! Be sure and take the family out to the Sandcastle contest on the beach
and let the kids check out the Children’s Activity Village. It is always a big hit!
Thank you to the City of Gulf Shores for allowing us to have this great event. Also,
thank you to the City of Orange Beach for partnering with us on additional events
that help us raise money for our local schools.
Remember to find all information and FAQ on our website,
www.MyShrimpfest.com. And tweet your pictures to #MyShrimpfest.
Have a great weekend!

Betsy Badwater comes from the Suwannee River.... We’ve heard it told
that she was born in the mouth of an alligator, wearing red high-heels and
singin’ the blues. She says a lot of things. Whether or not these tales are
true, we do know that she is a former 6-12th grade teacher and mental health
counselor in residential facilities for adjudicated male youth. Funding cuts for
mental health in the state of Florida shut down the facility where she worked
for many years. Betsy took losing her job as a sign and turned to her hearts
desire to play music and create art as permanent way of life. The same formal
education and work ethic that made Betsy successful in her academic and
counseling career still serves to keep her unsinkable in her new life. The struggles never had a chance
to squash her soul.
Brent Burns is not only a local, but the only local artist reaching a
national audience with his hit CD “Living the Life Jimmy Buffett Only
Wrote About.” Like a hurricane, Brent blew into the Gulf Coast more
than 20 years ago and has been causing a stir ever since.
Cary Laine & Holli Mosley It is not
often you hear a voice that makes you
stop in your tracks to listen. When you
hear two voices together that cause
you to turn your head and drop everything, you’ve found something really
special. Two such voices, Cary Laine and Holli Mosley, are teaming up and
hitting the road for what is sure to be a crazy ride of sharing their musical
talents, meeting fans, and making memories Cary Laine was just featured
on the current season of NBC’s The Voice where she got a four chair turn
and picked Adam Levine as her coach. She was the first contestant out
of all six seasons to be invited to sit in the coaches’ chairs as each coach
fought hard for her in one of the most entertaining auditions in the show’s history. Holli Mosley is
currently a recording artist at FAME Studio and Publishing Co. in Muscle Shoals, AL, the subject of
a multiple award winning documentary titled “Muscle Shoals” featuring FAME Studio and all of the
musicians and producers that work there. Both of these Alabama girls are incredibly talented, and the
two together on stage is a special kind of magic and Southern sass that you can’t miss.
Christina Christian is a singer songwriter originally from Foley, AL. Her music
can be described as “indie country”.... That folky alternative sound with a
flare of old school country. Christina has been performing in the Southeast for
the past three years, giving her opportunities to open for Maggie Rose, Jana
Kramer, Cassadee Pope, The Henningsons, and Tyler Farr. Growing up in such a
music affiliated area on the Gulf Coast, Christian has honed her craft of songwriting and performing through guidance from fellow musicians. Christian has
been living in Music City for the passed few months
paying dues and establishing her name in that crazy
town. They call her a “responsible free spirit.”
David Chastang Growing up the son of a minister, David Chastang started
singing on stage at a very early age. With a strong foundation in a mix of
black gospel and southern gospel, he found direction. He studied music
and vocal performance at Troy University. A southern storyteller, with
heavy soul influences .

with fans of all ages.
Derek Norsworthy Proudly hailing from southern Mississippi, Derek
Norsworthy is not your typical singer/songwriter, but rather an original
modern artist with a high-energy show, outstanding songs, and memorable image. Hesitant to be placed in any particular “sounds like” category,
Derek insists on having a unique mainstream sound of his own that
appeals to the toughest fans and critics. Emphasizing a lyrically powerful
style, Derek finds inspiration in artists who are true to what they do and
reach out to fans by writing and performing honest, musically tasteful
songs. Derek’s lyrical vulnerability, magnetic personality and vocally
stellar live performances provide songs that are clean, real and connect

Funk Monster is playing, there’s no way you can resist the dance floor!
From disco to 80s New Wave, these guys are an energetic, fun, and
professional party band.
Dustin Lynch occupies a
unique place in today’s country
music. Thanks to his classic
sensibilities, he’s been heralded
as the heir to George Strait’s
throne. Yet with one listen to his newest hit, “Where It’s At,”
it’s obvious the young Tennessean knows how to combine his
traditional influences with an edgy intensity that places him at
the vanguard of today’s contemporary country scene. It’s that
ability to fuse his country roots with a progressive musical vision that makes Lynch one of today’s
most successful young artists. His self-titled Broken Bow Records debut hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top
Country Albums chart and the lead single, “Cowboys and Angels,” exceeded platinum sales status
while earning Lynch a legion of devoted fans. His follow up single, the sexy up tempo “She Cranks My
Tractor,” became a No. 1 video on GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown and the accolades continued to
pour in, among them Rolling Stone heralding Lynch as “The New Hat in Town” in the magazine’s 2013
Best of Rock issue. Lynch’s career momentum continued as he opened for Keith Urban on his recent
Light the Fuse Tour and earned critical praise from American Songwriter, Billboard, Country Weekly,
Elle, The Los Angeles Times, People and USA Today, to name a few.
Eric Erdman is a storyteller with a life that gives him stories to write songs about. His guitar takes
him around the world and he can write four songs from one break up.
His lyrics are introspective and deep, often with a hook or punchline
that provide the spark in a song or draw listeners in like old friends. His
career began as the lead singer of the funk rock band, The Ugli Stick
in Mobile, Alabama and they released four albums and performed on
three USO tours. In 2012, Erdman recorded his first solo album, “My
Brother’s Keepers” that revealed his voice as a singer-songwriter. He
regularly tours through Europe and Australia and has won multiple international songwriting awards. He recorded his second album, “Color
the Silence,” in Australia in 2013. He returns to the studio in the fall of
2014 to record his third solo album.

Fly-by-Radio has become one of the biggest draws in
the southeast. The 80s band, 90s rock band has a show
that includes 4 great performers, a huge sound and light
package and a fantastic front person, Erica Chambers.
One great Alabama rock band!
For Gregg Fells, music isn’t an
option. It’s a calling, a consuming
passion that drives him day in and
day out and provides an emotional release. Since making a total commitment
to bare his soul, and soulfulness, in the intense, melodic and inspiring music
that he creates, Gregg has been making serious waves in a short time along
the Gulf Coast areas of Alabama and Florida. This is an area that’s rich in history, scenic beauty and a culture that includes a healthy reverence for singer/
songwriters. The laidback coastal folks celebrate and toast native-son Jimmy Buffett and look forward
each year to the legendary Frank Brown International Songwriting Festival, which sprawls among
dozens of venues in Perdido, Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.
Harrison McInnis Trio Harrison McInnis, noted protege of coastal
blues legend Hank Becker, gained widespread guitarist sideman acclaim
playing what Hank taught him: “PLAY FROM THE HEART WITH HEART”.
As a wordsmith and vocalist this same approach defines him, his music,
and his rare ability to communicate emotion. The rhythm section of
Edward (ZULU) Howard drums, and David (BUZZINCUZZIN) Moody bass,
provide THMH with the gospel-R&B-Southern-Soul power background
of Zulu and the space-n-taste Buzzincuzzin developed over decades in
songwriter acts.
Jason Justice has made his home here on the gulf coast after
the Navy dropped him off after four years. He and his band The
Hung Jury have opened for several touring acts and are known for
outlaw country in sandals.
Keith Anderson could be the
poster child for the notion that
good things happen to good
people. He’s quickly earned the
reputation of being an adept writer of award-nominated hits, not
just for his own projects but for other arists as well and his good guy
persona is as widely known as his high energy, let’s-get-this-partystarted live shows. The release of his sophomore album C’MON!
finds Anderson, the Grammy-nominated
songwriter, in fine form. He co-wrote 10 of the disc’s 11 tracks, pairing
with some of Nashville’s top tunesmiths including Rivers Rutherford,
Tim Nichols, Chuck Cannon, Vicky McGehee, Jeffrey Steele (also the
disc’s producer) and Bob DiPiero.
Lee Yankie is a guitar player, singer-songwriter that’s been playing
the Gulf Coast as a full-time musician since 2002. He formed his own
band Lee Yankie & the Hellz Yeah in 2005 in Gulf Shores, AL. Lee, just
released his first album in August of 2012 “the Leavin’ Sound” This

album is a mix of all Lee’s influences, including blues, country and jazz and has plenty of his signature
slide guitar work. For more info see www.facebook.com/leeyankie
Lisa Christian has been performing on the Gulf Coast for the last 10 years.
Her smooth, bluesy sound has made her a local favorite. Lisa is also an afternoon DJ at Sunny105.7 FM, a Gulf Coast classic hits radio station. In addition
to performing at night, and broadcasting during the day, Lisa does voice over
work and audiobook narration. You’ll recognize Lisa as the voice of “Bagel”
in the cartoon cult classic“Panic at The Bakery!” To find out more about Lisa
Christian, and to download Lisa’s music, go to www.lisachristiannation.com.
Lisa Dotolo is a solo acoustic inspirational artist based in Nashville,
TN. Presently, Lisa performs in acoustic venues with her guitar. She
plays coffee shops, festivals, colleges, churches and any venue that
will host her original music. She is currently touring nationally and
promoting her second CD called “doing it all my way”. Her third
record is set to release in the Fall of 2014. This record will be a blend
of hymns and original inspirational music.
Mainstream Band GA. is a
Country, Southern Rock, Rock n
Roll, Classic Rock, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s,
80’s, 90’s, and today’s music with
Electrifying Solo’s, Dynamic Duos, and Powerful Vocals with wireless & lead technology, which allows everyone to be part of the
show!!! They play everything from Eagles, Bon Jovi, Elvis, Luke
Bryan, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, and everything in between.
Mainstream Band has something for everyone.
Megan McMillan’s sound is soulful, sassy, and undeniably
country. Influenced by country greats like Hank Williams Sr., Waylon
Jennings, Jamey Johnson, Gretchen Wilson, and Merle Haggard,
and drawing influence from rockers such as Tom Petty and Bruce
Springsteen, this Pinetucky, Alabama native marches to the beat
of her own drum. Megan’s songs can be deeply lyrical, melodically
unique, humorous, and gut-wrenchingly honest. Megan plans to
independently release her debut EP in January 2015.
Meghan Linsey was half of the soulful, country duo Steel Magnolia that
exploded on the Country charts in 2009. Their first single, “Keep on Loving You”
shot to #4 and was the highest charting debut single from a male/female duo
in Country music history. Steel Magnolia sold nearly a million downloads and
albums, appeared on shows from Kimmel to Letterman to E! News. They toured
with superstar acts such as Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert and
Bob Segar. They were nominated for 17 major music awards including ACM
and CMA Duo of the Year and the Teen Choice Award for Choice Country Artist.
Her version of “Counting Stars” is already gaining fans…hitting #16 on SiriusXM’s The Highway Top 45 Countdown. Meghan’s EP is scheduled to release
late spring with a live broadcast event and her spring and summer is already
filling up with shows across the country.

Melissa Joiner Native of Baldwin County, Alabama, and daughter
of legendary gulf coast songwriter and guitarist John Joiner, Melissa
Joiner has been submersed in music since birth. Her diverse style and
creative use of formal opera training, has created a unique sound that
makes her a standout among gulf coast female vocalist. In her first summer of being a professional musician, she was selected to host the Gulf
Coast Songwriter Shootout in the world famous Florabama, and was
invited and participated in many songwriting festivals.
Sandra Kaye with Midnight Confessions hits the stage
nightly at the legendary Nolan’s Lounge, and brings a high energy
eclectic mix of all your current and classic dance music. The music covers many genres from the 50’s to today’s Hit’s. Pop, R&B,
soul classics, country, swing, reggae, the list goes on.....
Parmalee From this tiny town
that’s home to a gas station, two blinking yellow lights, and a small
tin-roofed barn dubbed Studio B, country rockers Parmalee launched
their long journey to Nashville. The near-fatal robbery Parmalee
experienced after a show would have destroyed most bands. But
brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, cousin Barry Knox and longtime
friend Josh McSwain didn’t call it quits. Instead it reinforced their
intense motivation and dedication to one another and to their determination to succeed. Each obstacle that delayed Parmalee’s arrival
to Nashville was an extra mile that allowed the groundbreaking sounds of artists like Jason Aldean
and Eric Church to pave the way for the worlds of country radio and Parmalee’s brand of country music
to meet at the perfect crossroad.
Patterson, Danley, & Reid is an ensemble of Arkansas songwriters
that has been delighting audiences for years with their eclectic brand
of Americana. Through the sensitive artistry of Justin Patterson, the
mystical musings of Laura Lynn Danley, and the satirical wit of Gene
Reid, this combo blends their distinct set of influences into one unique
acoustic sound. Come enjoy PDR’s collection of finely crafted songs!
Rhythm Intervention features
Cat Rhodes Front and Center
belting out the Blues, R&B, Soul and her Heartfelt Originals.
The band was formed on the Best Stages of the Alabama
Coastline, first performing together at the Flora-Bama and
then the Main Stage at The Hangout and then on to Lulu’s,
creating a band rooted in the Blues, but equally at ease with the Soul of Tina Turner, the Reggae of
Bob Marley, the R&B of Muscle Shoals, the Greasy Grind of
Texas Blues-Rock, the Funk of New Orleans and “All Points
In Between” with their diverse mix of Original Music.
Ryan Balthrop is a rootsy, and eclectic singer songwriter
based in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama. He has been
sharing the stage with a rotating cast of many of the Gulf
Coast’s finest musicians, performing almost as many shows
as there are days in the year. He has released two records

her life. A self-proclaimed “Alabama Kinda Girl,” Summerlyn
is just as comfortable in blue jeans and camoflauge as she is
in her favorite pink cowgirl boots. This is evident in her debut
single which was released in the summer of 2013 entitled
“Alabama Kinda Girl,” which is also the subject of a video featuring the legendary country music star
Pam Tillis. Summerlyn may be young but her voice has the maturity and depth that pair well with her
artistic songwriting abilities. Summerlyn has been featured on numerous Texaco Country Showdown

Willie Sugarcapps Featuring Will Kimbrough, Sugarcane
Jane, Grayson Capps & Corky Hughes. Way down in lower Alabama, almost every weekend for the past two years, folks have
been coming together for a music gathering called The Frog
Pond at Blue Moon Farm. One part house concert, one part Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble, the affair has hosted some of the
country’s finest songwriters, pickers, bluesman and troubadours
ranging from Mary Gauthier to Alvin Youngblood Hart, Malcolm
Holcombe to Randall Bramblett, Sergio Webb to George Porter,
Jr. It was here that frequent encounters between reoccurring
artists—Grayson Capps, Will Kimbrough, Corky Hughes and
the duo Sugarcane Jane featuring Savana Lee and Anthony
Crawford—led to the birth of a band, the aptly named Willie
Sugarcapps. At first it was simply songwriter-in-the-round and jam session-styled collaborations, but
it quickly grew to become something more. There was chemistry between the five distinct musicians
that inspired a repertoire of songs demanding to be documented. Band members often take turns singing lead as they switch up between fiddle, banjo, mandolin, lap steel, bass and even ukulele.
