A vacuum is created, drawing the
latex into every corner of the mold.
(This step is unique to the Talalay

The temperature is quickly
dropped to -20° F, freezing the latex
particles in place and ensuring

COMPRESSION TESTING RESULTS
The Compression Set Test involves compressing
a test sample to half its original thickness for
22 hours at an elevated temperature of 158° F
and then allowing it to decompress. The greater
the loss of thickness, the more likely the material
is to take an impression over time — and the

The pH is neutralized
and the latex material
begins to set.
The latex is heated to 230° F
to “vulcanize” it, essentially
baking it into solid form.
The mattress core is removed from
the mold and washed five times
in pure water, rinsing away any
potential impurities or allergens.
It’s then gently and thoroughly
dried for three hours.

IMPACT TESTING RESULTS
In the Impact Test a weight of about 45 pounds
is dropped repeatedly on the mattress core
for 24 hours. The core is allowed to recover for
24 hours, then its firmness is measured again.
The greater the loss of firmness from the first
measurement to the second indicates how

foam. Zenhaven is the real

By law, all mattresses must have
a flame-retardant barrier, many
infused with potentially toxic
chemicals. Our pure organic
New Zealand Joma wool not only
is an effective flame retardant,
it enhances the breathability
and comfort of the mattress,
wicking away moisture for
a cooler, drier sleep.
Our Saatva innerspring, our
Loom & Leaf memory foam
mattress, and now our
Zenhaven all-natural latex
mattress — are all finished
with a cover of rich organic
cotton. It’s healthy, breathable,

SUSTAINABLE HARVESTING
The natural latex used in Zenhaven
is tapped from rubber trees in much
the way maple trees are tapped for
syrup. The trees are not harmed in
the process, and a single tree can
produce latex for up to 25 years.
IS ZENHAVEN 100% ORGANIC?
No. All the latex layers in Zenhaven are made
from 100% natural latex, which is organic.
However, once the latex is harvested, a small
amount of nontoxic, inorganic material must
be added in order to convert natural latex from
its liquid, tree-tapped form into its solid form.
Every support layer is made from 100% natural
latex. While our flame-retardant layer is woven
from organic wool, and our cover is made of
organic cotton, we must use a small amount
of water-based adhesive and synthetic
reinforcement material to keep top layers
from shifting.
NO HARMFUL BYPRODUCTS
Talalay production is a completely
water-based process, generating no
byproducts that are harmful to the
environment. The finished product is
also free of toxins of any kind, including
the volatile compounds “outgassed” by
synthetic foams.
CO2 REDUCTION
The process that transforms natural
liquid latex into Talalay latex does not
produce greenhouse gases — it, in fact,
absorbs them. In addition, rubber trees
scrub millions of tons of carbon dioxide
from the environment each year.
