Club Meeting 2nd Sunday, 2:00 pm
Spring Creek Barbeque 12835 Preston
Rd. SW Corner of Preston & LBJ
972-726-9002
New Stuff Corner for 2012 Mopar Brand
2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8.
Chrysler‟s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) group continues to inject astounding performance attributes
into already excellent Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles. Now, breaking off as a separate brand entity, the
SRT group touts its most powerful HEMI engine found in new 2012 SRT8 performance vehicles including the
all-new Chrysler 300 SRT8.
The new 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 is the fastest sedan, along side of the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, to make
it off of the production line from the Chrysler Corporation. At the heart of the new 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 is a
monstrous 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine making 470 horsepower and a matching 470 ft.-lbs. of torque. The
re-worked engine is a marvel in itself, which at the aid of technological advancements is able to still get 23
miles to the gallon on the highway.
Performance mixed with a quant taste of luxury is where the Chrysler 300 SRT8 is positioned. When
compared to the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, the 300 SRT8 blends a bit more luxury into the equation aside
from virtually identical straight-line performance. When all of the performance attributes of the new 300 SRT8
are working in sync, you are able to reach 60 mph in a quick 4.5 seconds, run a full quarter mile in 13.0
seconds and have the confidence to throw it into sharp corners on a race track. Those figures will easily leave
the BMW 550i glancing at the 300 SRT8‟s LED taillights while listing to the HEMI‟s rumble fade into a distant
memory. Although the new 300 SRT8 won‟t bite back at the Cadillac CTS-V, it tends to keep German
competitors on their toes.

Howdy Members,
Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow. That I shall say good night till it be morrow. I‟m
sure all of you will recognize those lines spoken by Juliet to Romeo in the Capulet Orchard. Yet, she
didn‟t really want him to part; she wanted to be with him forever. As do I, with you… No, not in that
sense, but I truly do wish for you to continue your membership in the Dallas Mopar Club, and this could by
your last newsletter if you haven‟t yet renewed. If this is the case, please take a moment to sit down at
your computer, log onto the website, and renew your membership. Or you can even drop a check in the
mail. Thanks.
Race Update: It‟s March, and that means the start of the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge Series. We
are racing on March 11th at Texas Raceway in Kennedale and March 25th at the Motorplex in Ennis. You
may notice that March 11th is also our club meeting day, so I won‟t be at the meeting. Sorry.
May 19th, it‟s Mopars at the Motorplex. The event this year is going to be really big and is part of Mopar
Action magazine‟s Mega Mopar Action Series. Please mark your calendars now; this will be one of the
biggest Mopar events in this part of the country. We need as many members as possible to show up and
support the event. Don‟t forget that this will also be the date and event for the Fastest Time of the Day
competition. There will be something for everyone, race, car show, car corral, swap meet, model car
competition, dealer challenge and on Friday night, the 18th, it‟s Mopar vs. the World for a showdown
between Mopars and all rival brand challengers. (Pun intended!) Stay tuned to the web sites for more
information, www.dallasmoparclub.com, www.cowtownmopars.com, www.dfwlx.com,
www.texasmotorplex.com, www.megamoparaction.com, www.moparsatthemotorplex.com.
Show Update: March 17th and 18th, it‟s the Lone Star Grand Prix, CART racing at Fair Park.
March 24th, it‟s the Spring meet and greet, dust off, hang out and talk cars at fast440.com. We‟re just
going to get together, hang out, and talk cars or whatever for a relaxing good time.
March 31st, it‟s the 21st Annual Louisiana Mopar Nationals, hosted by the Mopar Magic car club in
Shreveport. This is a really fun and organized event. We also have a friendly challenge going on with the
Mopar Magic Club and this year, we have to show up with at least 12 entries or a check for $100. Let‟s
get out and support these guys, they always have a good showing of support for us at Mini-Nats. The way
I see it, it‟s a win-win for all involved. We will be caravanning over and will have more information to
follow.
Meeting Changes: This year, Easter falls on the second Sunday in April, thus we will be moving the
meeting date and are looking into the possibility of foregoing a meeting to have a Dyno Day instead, more
to follow on that. Additionally, the second Sunday in May is Mother‟s Day and I‟m in the process of
scheduling another meeting at the North Texas Museum of Automotive History at Fair Park. Stay tuned
for more info, till then, keep it between the ditches and keep the shiny side up!

“GOLDY”
Dial back your time machine to 1967. Having haunted the drag strips thru high school, I was always
impressed with the early B-Bodies. Back then I was a sophomore in college driving my own 1965 Belvedere I
2-door post car. Although a great ride, I always loved the hardtop styling. A favorite pastime in college was
to cruise the boulevard on campus and checkout the cool rides and of course the girls.
Well to my surprise one day, on the opposite side of the road came a 1965 gold Satellite. I wheeled around
as fast as I could to catch up with it but only got to it in time to see a cute little girl get out and go into the
girl‟s dorm. I pulled up, looked over the car and noticed the commando emblems on the side. Wow, so I
thought to myself, I have to find this girl. Months went by but I never saw her again. Then one evening our
dorm was hosting an open house for the ladies at the girls‟ dorm when I noticed a young lady that looked
familiar. As we got closer, I recognized that she was someone I had known in the 7th grade. We visited
awhile and I wound up talking about all the great rides on campus (always the gear head). When asked what
she drove, she said a 1965 gold Satellite!!
Now fast forward to 1968 – we were married and I got the girl and the car! Luckily I still have them both – the
girl is still stock (ha ha) but the car (affectionately named Goldy) is somewhat modified. Over the years
Goldy has had a few heart transplants – 361/383/413/426 and one more still planned. She‟s been graced
st
with many awards thru the years including multiple 1 places at Autorama along with the Popular Hot
Rodding magazine award, Dennis Gage‟s pick (My Classic Car) favorite car, Lynn Stewart‟s favorite ride
(American Graffiti), and featured in Collectable Automobile magazine. She now enjoys a peaceful retirement
safely tucked away in her own garage with big brother (ole blue).
Technical Article: Tunnel Ram – Ramchargers 1959
The first Tunnel Ram was actually called a “High Ram” and it was developed by a team of privateers from
Chrysler. The car "The High & Mighty" ran under the C/Altered class, and featured the first “high ram” intake,
later copied by many others; the use of the special intake to develop a supercharging effect at certain speeds
was eventually termed ram induction. The low-cost car set the class speed record on its first outing at the
National Hot Rod Association Nationals in 1959. Yes, those are heater hoses and hose clamps holding the
air box to the heads!

Bill Shope wrote: Ramcharger Member
I was one of the original Ramchargers and, at that time, we were in the planning stage for the club's first car,
"The High & Mighty" C/A 1949 Plymouth. I can vouch for George Wallace‟s (from Chrysler) willingness to help
in such endeavors as he helped me to make valid performance predictions for the car. Calculated results were
essentially identical to the car's actual runs on its first appearance at the NHRA Nationals in Detroit.
George also developed the empirical relationship between quarter mile speed, vehicle weight, and horsepower
which was universally used by the Ramchargers to both predict performance and to evaluate the competition.
In preparation for the 1960 NASCAR compact car race on the road circuit at Daytona, George calculated the
average speed for the winning car. I can't remember how many tenths of a mph off he was, but I distinctly
remember the amazement that a calculated value could be so close to the actual!
In two years, "The High & Mighty" set NHRA records for top quarter mile speed (12.8 seconds at 109.75 mph)
and elapsed time (12.62 seconds @ 115 mph). The top speed quarter mile time ever recorded for the car was
11.8 seconds, the top quarter-mile speed 117 mph.

"The High & Mighty" has appeared in the Chrysler display at the 2005 & „08 Woodward Cruise, in the W.P.
Chrysler Museum as part of the “Hot Rods & Cool Mods” Exhibit in the Fall-Winter of 2005, in the 2006
Autorama in Detroit and made its first exhibition runs at the 2006 & „08 Mopar Nationals in Columbus OH, and
appeared at the Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals 2007& 2009, the NHRA Reunion in Bowling Green KY and the
Hemi Reunion at the Quaker State Dragway in Salem OH, Chrysler‟s Wild Wheels @ Work and the Plymouth
Owners Club National meet in 2008. In April 2009 it was displayed at the SAE Congress as part of the Mobility
History Committee session with the Ramchargers telling their story.
Over 37 articles on the project have appeared in numerous newspapers and auto magazines including the
April ‟07 Issue of Hot Rod Magazine. Mopar Collectors Guide named the car in the top five Mopar cars for
2006. Photos and videos of the car and its status can be found on the CEMA web site http://cemaclub.org in
the High & Mighty link.
