OKLAHOMA FCCLA Theme & Program What do line dancing, FCCLA, and countless genres of music have in common? They will all be found at the 2013 National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Put on your cowboy hats and grab your guitars. The 2012-2013 National Executive Council invites you to Discover Your Voice along with FCCLA’s finest at the 2013 National Leadership Conference July 7-11. This chart-topping experience will empower members to take initiative and be the change. With competitive events, dynamic speakers, and astonishing sessions, YOU have the opportunity to stand out and become who YOU want to be! While you’re developing your leadership skills, be sure to take in Nashville’s attractions. Prepare yourself, because this summer you will Discover Your Voice! July 2013 2011-2015 National Outreach Project Each chapter that raised funds for Share Our Strength will receive these fun incentives! If your Chapter raised $500 – Share Our Strength Wristband If your Chapter raised $1,000 – Share Our Strength Pin If your Chapter raised $2,000 – Share Our Strength Sunglasses If your Chapter raised $4,000 – Share Our Strength T-Shirt If Your Chapter Raised the Most Money: Your chapter will be recognized on stage at the National Leadership Conference as well as receive the Share Our Strength trophy. Each year, the winning chapter’s name will be engraved as permanent recognition for their amazing accomplishment! Additionally, the students in the top chapter will also receive additional Share Our Strength incentives. If Your State Raised the Most Money: Your state will receive a $1,000 check to use toward any FCCLA expenses. Your state adviser and state president will be recognized and presented with a plaque on stage at the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN. Registration at National Conference You have registered on line for the National Leadership Conference through the national web site. Conference registration is computerized — name badges, tickets for sessions, meal functions and other activities will be generated by computer. These badges serve as admission to all meetings and sessions. Each adviser is responsible for picking up their chapter’s registration packet. Bring your receipt and a copy of your Registration Summary form to receive the packets. There is a $5 charge to replace a lost nametag or program. Security at the conference will not allow meeting delegates to enter the center without their name badge. 1 1 Hotel Guidelines Items to Remember HOUSING Delegates should check Housing for delegates will fees for hotel services, i.e. be at the Gaylord Opryphone, movies, internet conland Hotel, 2802 Opryland nections, before using them. If you preregistered for a tour, it may include a meal. See tour details for specifics. LUGGAGE: Please tag bags with your name and home address using the FCCLA luggage tags. Identification, including flight and hotel information, should also be INSIDE your luggage. Place Oklahoma and National Travel Systems luggage tags on your bags so they may be easily identified as part of your group's luggage. Weight restrictions will be listed on the airline website. All delegates who purchased the Oklahoma convention package by the April deadline will receive a backpack. The backpack will have the Oklahoma nametag, state t-shirt, polo, nametags and luggage tags inside. Advisers that did not pick up their backpacks at Rookie Camp may do so in Mrs. Morris’ room Saturday night July 6, from 10—11 PM. FCCLA TOURS: Tour Tickets must be picked up no later than one (1) hour prior to departure at the FCCLA Tour Desk located at the Delta A Registration Desk, Gaylord Opryland hotel. 2 MANDATORY DRESS POLICY Students’ dress should contribute to the professional image of FCCLA. Advisers are responsible for enforcing the dress policy. Delegates, advisers, chaperones, and guests not adhering to the dress policy will not be admitted into any general sessions, workshops or the STAR Events recognition sessions. Casual attire is allowed at the Tuesday Special Event. Suggested attire for the FCCLA Gala is semi-formal. Students attending the Gala may come to the closing general session in their semi-formal attire. The FCCLA official blazer is always appropriate and STRONGLY encouraged. Shoes should be worn at all times. Mandatory attire for general sessions, workshops and the STAR Events recognition sessions includes: Males: Red, black or white polo or oxford Black or Khaki dress slacks or pants Dress shoes Females: Red, black or white polo or oxford Black or khaki skirts– no shorter than 2 inches above the knee Black or khaki dress slacks/pants/capris (no shorts) Dress shoes or sandals Inappropriate attire for ALL attendees: Skin-tight or revealing clothing Midriff-baring clothing Extremely short skirts (shorter than 2 inches above the knee) Clothing with printing that is suggestive, obscene or promotes illegal substances Athletic clothing Swimwear Rubber, beach type flip flops Night wear (pajamas) should not be worn outside of your hotel room Advisers/Chaperones/Guests Business Casual FCCLA GALA—A Southern Summer Night in Music City Tonight’s exciting FCCLA Gala Showcases the broad spectrum of “Nashville Sound” on a southern summer night in Music City as we celebrate the MANY different beats. Yes, Music City’s worldwide reputation resounds that Country is King, but Nashville is also home to many other musical genres. From contemporary rock and modern pop, to blues and bluegrass, we’ll enjoy no shortage of diverse sounds tonight. Our guests will enjoy the dance club beat in the FLIP-SIDE CLUB, a cutting-edge contrast with live performances in KICKIN’ IT COUNTRY, and for a more laid back and intimate atmosphere, they can visit the unique SONGWRITERS’ CAFÉ. This special event, by invitation only, will offer networking opportunities and a chance to learn about the benefits of participating in Alumni & Associates. Invitations will be included in chapter registration packets. Flags should be lowered and placed out of view when the general sessions begin. No other flags or banners are allowed. The State Executive Council will be responsible for displaying the Oklahoma flag at general sessions. Competitions will take place at the Opryland hotel. All participants received a confirmation postcard from the National office. The postcard included information about STAR Events and directed participants to the national FCCLA web site. www.fcclainc.org for more specific event information. Chapter advisers are responsible for picking up all STAR Events registration materials and distributing items to their STAR Event participants. Failure to do so will result in a 3 point deduction. Mrs. Morris will not be available to pick up left over packets! STAR EVENT PARTICIPANTS All STAR Event participants must attend the following sessions. Since events are in various places, it is important for participants and evaluators to locate the rooms in advance. All Oklahoma delegates and advisers are expected to attend the recognition session to support our participants. EVALUATORS AND ROOM CONSULTANTS Sunday, July 7 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. STAR Events Participant Orientation - location listed in conference program. A number of delegates volunteered to serve as evaluators or room consultants for STAR Events. National headquarters has contacted those selected to serve. Sunday, July 7—Thursday, July 11 8:00 a.m.— 4:00 p.m. Event participation is according to scheduled time for each STAR Event. All student and adult evaluators should attend the regular orientation session for their specified event on Sunday, July 7 from 4:00—5:00 p.m. Attendance is mandatory.
