GERRY BOURGAULT DENIS DORVAL OPERATIONS MANAGER BOURGAULT AUSTRALIA Bourgault products are now going through a gratifying phase of their evolution in Australia. The products sold over the last seven years have performed well and have met and surpassed customer expectations. We're now seeing some of those early Bourgault 8800 bars and 3000/4000 seeders being traded for new 8810 bars and 5000 seeders. In most cases, our dealers have sold their Bourgault trades to neighboring properties or acquaintances of the original owners. It is our mission and focus to ensure our customers receive the best support possible from Bourgault and it dealers. STEVE ALLEN ASSISTANT OPERATIONS MANAGER BOURGAULT AUSTRALIA Australian farmers are embracing sustainable and minimum till practices on a broad scale, in one of the most difficult farming environments in the world. In doing so, they are enhancing their ability to minimize erosion, maximize moisture conservation, and re-build their soil structure in the process. The end result is higher profitability for the farmer, with a stronger, more productive land base. The best equipment available to achieve this is Bourgault’s. I am committed to helping provide the best possible equipment and service for Australian farmers through our dealer network. Bourgault's tyne assembly design utilizes INCREASING FORCE geometry. As the soil gets tougher, the tyne and sweep may begin to tip back slightly. This slightly increases the angle of attack of the sweeps and greatly increases their ability to penetrate the tough soil. The trips will never tip enough to adversely affect seedbed quality. The C style tyne allows the straw to roll off. Straight tynes tend to suffer from straw wrapping. 6 TILLAGE Resilient Tyne Assembly Pivot Bourgault tyne assemblies feature a single, greaseless pivot point equipped with an extremely durable Nylatron G.S.® bushing and a grade 8 bolt. The simple and durable design provides years of service with low maintenance. Should maintenance be required, the trip assembly can be refitted easily, safely, and economically using common hand tools. No Other Tyne Penetrates Like Bourgault’s Precise Depth Control The sweep tip is located just behind the tyne pivot. If the sweep angle attack increases slightly, depth is not significantly affected; however, penetration capability is greatly enhanced. A precision line lock valve complements the exactness of the single master, series hydraulic depth control system. Bourgault's exclusively patented valve prevents oil transfer between the tractor Patented Line Lock Valve and cultivator and keeps hydraulic line pressure low when lowering the unit into the ground. The valve ensures the tillage unit will maintain an even depth across the entire width without creeping or rebounding when not working using the depth stop. Trip Options Superior Penetration Characteristics 8810 Cultivator - 75 kg (165 lb), 105 kg (230 lb), 150 kg (330 lb), or 205 kg (450 lb) - 25 mm x 51 mm tynes 9400 & 9800 Chisel Ploughs - 227 kg (500 lb), 272 kg (600 lb) - 38 mm x 51 mm tynes Superior Hydraulic System Bourgault’s tillage units feature the single master, masterslave hydraulic system to control the operating depth. The design makes this system virtually maintenance free. Quick Shift Depth Control System Frames Designed for Endurance Single Series Depth Control Cylinders A standard in-line filter located on the master cylinder prevents contamination of the depth control system. Virtually all hydraulic cylinder damage is caused by contamination. Durable yet Simple Trip Design FRANK BOURGAULT BUILT HIS FIRST ALL-PURPOSE CULTIVATOR ON HIS FARM IN 1968. The patented Quick Shift Depth Control makes setting the bar’s working depth easy and effective. Simply loosen the lock handle and adjust the slide to the appropriate depth using the numbered scale. The tillage frame construction uses 102 mm x 102 mm wall tubing on the rows, sandwiched between 51 mm x 51 mm (8810 & 9400), or 102 mm x 76 mm (9800) front-to-back members. This construction technique creates a frame with unmatched strength and durability. Bourgault’s tillage units can handle heavy tillage operations, the extra weight of Mid Row Banders®, and mounted on-row packers. Farmers have reported logging more than two Durable Solid Frame Construction decades of service on their Bourgault tillage units without producing a single frame crack. As a Bourgault owner, you can be confident that this unit will go the distance. The 9400 & 9800 Chisel Ploughs incorporate a four row frame with layouts designed to provide unmatched residue clearance. Distance between rows is a minimum .81 m for the 9400 and a minimum .79 m on the 9800. On the 305 mm (12”) spacing, units equipped with the 227 kg (500 lb) trips and 25 mm x 51 mm tynes have .76 m of frame to ground clearance and .64 m of obstacle clearance. Minimized Contouring Depth Front Mount Castor Wheels Handle Maximum Residue with Minimum Effort Bourgault's designers have made residue clearance a top priority. Each unit’s trip layout is designed to achieve unmatched residue clearClearance is optimized around the wheels. ance. The 8810 Series Cultivators use a five row frame design to ensure good residue flow around the wheels, where most other cultivators have plugging problems. The distance between adjacent tynes is a minimum of 810 mm on 203 mm (8”) spacing and 1 m on 254 mm (10”) spacing. The minimum distance between adjacent rows is .64 m and the frame to ground clearance is .69 m, with sweeps. In-frame walking axles provide a better ride over debris. The 8810 sports the shortest contouring depth in the industry. Research has proven that the ability to follow field contours is primarily related to frame depth and wheel positioning. Both the 8810 and 9400 have the shortest contouring depth in the industry. The front castor wheels are positioned close to the frame, and the in-frame walking axles are centred in the frame. The result is a more even seeding depth through the peaks and valleys. In-frame walking axles will reduce the effects of rough ground by 50%, ensuring even depth during seeding. Rear wheels carry slightly more load, preventing the front wheels, on the walking axles, from diving in wet spots. The front castor wheels provide a critical function to the proper operation of the floating hitch unit. The castor wheels eliminate Strong & accessible castor legs. the “nosing in” rotation of the bar, created by the draft loads of the soil placed on the openers. The front castor wheels keep the tillage units depth on target. Leg style castor wheels are used, rather than fork type. This feature greatly lessens the effort required in changing a tyre. Leg type castors will not build up with mud and field residue as is often experienced with fork type castors. This plugging action acts like a brake, causing premature tyre wear. 7 TILLAGE Low Maintenance Bourgault tillage units require less maintenance! Bourgault utilizes high performance, composite bushings, pivoting on chrome pins. This has allowed Bourgault to minimize greasing locations and stretch greasing intervals. Quick and Easy Levelling Dependable Running Gear For the 8810 and 9400 floating hitch units, front to back adjustment is performed by adjusting the screw jack that connects the inframe running gear to the castor wheel. On all three models, side to side depth adjustment is done by adjusting the screws on top of each depth control cylinder. (Wrenches are provided.) Bourgault’s tillage units are equipped with 2720 kg (6000 lb) wheel hubs. A triple lip seal system that includes a steel wear sleeve pressed into the hub, (rather than onto the spindle) makes the seal immune to damage from twine, wire and vines. Triple lip seals allow fresh grease to be pumped into the hub without you worrying about the seal popping out. This feature allows for greater bearing life and reduces the need for regular re-packing of wheel bearings. Level your Bourgault tillage unit in minutes! High Quality parts require less maintenance time and cost. Hubs & spindles designed for the rigors of the agricultural industry. 8 1. The optional 4 Row Tyne Harrows provide good straw spreading and a uniform field finish. 2. On-Row Gang Style or Independent Style Mounted Packers will provide on-row packing when seeding with narrow openers. The adjustable packing pressure will ensure good seed-to-soil contact, aiding germination. 3. The Titan Quick-Detach Arm enables you to change from harrows to packers by removing one pin. The Titan Arm also allows you to adjust the down force on the harrows or packers. 4. Add Mid Row Banders® to the 8810 to safely band fertilizer between the 203 mm (8”) or 254 mm (10”) spaced seed rows. 5. Bourgault's Spring Action Mud Scrapers clean mud off the tyres and provide for a constant working depth when operating in wet conditions. 6. Install Side Draft Eliminators to prevent skewing when tilling on side slopes. (Not required when Mid Row Banders® are installed.) 7. The Bourgault Trailing Hitch is available for towing a fertilizer cart, prickle chain, or wing type packer system. 8. Equip with a Single Shoot or Double Shoot Air Kit, as required, to meet seeding and fertilizing needs. Optional large seed packages are also available for beans and other large seed crops. 9. Install a Granular Applicator Kit (Dual Shoot) to broadcast herbicide or urea fertilizer. 10. Select from 6 mm (¼”), 10 mm (3/8”), and 13 mm (½”) thick shims to adjust depth on individual tynes. 11. Most tillage units are designed to accommodate 3rd party disc markers, to reduce overlap. Only the seed that is going into the soil is treated so there are no more treated seed disposal problems. Bourgault has worked in cooperation with seed treatment suppliers so currently produced and newly released seed treatments will work well with on-the-go treatment equipment. Only Bourgault's Seed Pro-Tech 99 can be used in both single and double shoot modes. High Floatation Tyres Bourgault makes reduced compaction a high priority in air seeder design. A wide range of tyre sizes and tread designs are made available to best suit your farming Tyres sized to reduce ground operation. Choices compaction. include R1 (traction lug), R1W (up to 25% deeper lug than R1), and R2 lug (twice the lug depth of R1) tyres, diamond lug, and softrac (square) lug tyres. With the unit full, ground pressures as low as 138 kpa (20 psi) can be achieved. Heavy Duty Tank Frame 18 AIR SEEDER Treatment is applied to the seed right in the metering auger to ensure sufficient coverage. What is the expected life of a typical air seeder? It is not uncommon to see 20 year old Bourgault air seeders still Designers at Bourgault Industries use the latest design tools as well as severe bounce used as the main seeding track testing to ensure sound new products. tool on many farms in Western Canada. Competitive units of this age have long since been put out to pasture. Because Bourgault air seeders are so durable, Bourgault continues to develop a large variety of retrofit kit options to keep older units updated with developing technology. This commitment to durability is still paramount in the air seeders we build today. Extensive finite element analysis performed on computer models helps designers determine the optimum configuration prior to construction. A prototype is then built and rigorously endurance tested on a severe bounce track to verify the design. All 5000 Series feature a welded tank which is joined to a strong hollow structural steel frame, using continuous rather than stitch welds. Plastic tanks have experienced problems such as seam splitting and joint splitting due to thermal expansion. Deterioration caused by exposure to ultraviolet light leads to the tanks becoming brittle. Some also suffer from product clinging to the sides due to static build up. E-Zee Air Seeder Hitch The optional E-Zee air seeder hitch takes the hassle out of backing your seeding unit to the air tank. The E-Zee hitch telescopes and swivels within a 300 mm (12”) range of the towing hitch for fast and easy air seeder attachment. The E-Zee hitch will swivel to meet the towing hitch. Finish backing up and lock the hitch before towing the unit forwards. Bourgault is committed to meet future opportunities and challenges as an independent, family-owned company. You can count on the Bourgault name for years to come. Working Lights The working lights option includes lights around the metering transmissions, the sides of the tank, the load/unload auger head, cat walk, and on the rear of the air seeder. These lights give excellent illumination around the seeding unit during night time operation. 5000 Series Air Seeders Models 5195 5200 5245 5250 5295 5300 5345 5350 5440* Tank Capacity (litres) 7000 7000 8800 8800 10500 10500 12300 12300 546200 A) Used as a 3 tank system. The increasing costs of fuel, fertilizer, and chemical have greatly increased the negative financial consequences of seeding errors. The equipment must be able to properly place seed and fertilizer in a variety of soil conditions. Proper emergence is the key to establishing a strong crop that will maximize yield opportunities. The Mid Row Bander® developed by Bourgault has revolutionized the farming industry. A Bourgault seeding unit, equipped with MRBs®, enables a farmer to reduce field passes, preserve available soil moisture, and cut through managed field residue. By banding the fertilizer between the seed rows, MRBs® can guarantee seed and fertilizer separa- tion, regardless of the fertilizer rates. Fertilizer burn caused by nitrogen mixed with the seed can be one of the costliest crop injuries. The use of Mid Row Banders® has exploded in North America. For the past several years, drought conditions in Western Canada and the Mid Western U.S. have shown that crops seeded with Bourgault MRBs® have stronger emergence and overall better yields than conventionally seeded crops. Eliminate Fertilizer Burn Mid Row Banders® are mounted at the front of the seeding unit, between every other set of seed runs. Farmers can safely place the required amount of nitrogen, mid-row, to assure that Guaranteed Fertilizer Separation the fertilizer is separated from the delicate seeds. Feed the Seed, Not the Weeds Testing has proven that plants in the seed runs will germinate better and sooner than weed seeds outside of the seed runs. This is due to the packers wheels firming the soil over the seed rows, establishing good soil to Strong emerging crop taps into the seed contact. The banded fertilizer before the weeds. crop seeds will germinate first, and utilize the nitrogen before weeds outside the rows can. Your crop will have a head start over the weeds. Minimize Soil Disturbance Many double shoot openers and other higher disturbance openers extensively fracture the soil. The churning action of the soil mixes the seed and fertilizer within the furrow. Poor placement will result in uneven germination. With the MRB® system, a narrow, low distur- The test plot on the left was seeded by an MRB® system, whereas the plot on the right was seeded with a double shoot boot. The MRB® plot has an excellent field finish with no open fractures or large lumps. Quite typical of double shoot boots, the plot on the right is rough. The difference in germination is also noticeable. bance seed opener can be used. Less disturbance will result in better seed depth control. Germinating seeds will access the nitrogen placed in the mid-row band, resulting in a strong and even catch in the field. More Grain with Less Fertilizer Since the first MRBs® went into service eight years ago, they have consistently helped farmers produce more grain, with less nitrogen. When compared to seed placed nitrogen, more bushels of grain are produced, with the same amount of nitrogen and the crops generally mature sooner. This can be explained in three parts: » Seed is not subjected to the toxicity of inrow nitrogen. The seed can emerge faster and more vigorously than plants damaged by fertilizer burn. The result is a stronger, better yielding stand. » Access to nitrogen is delayed until the plant is established. This tends to create a stand that produces less straw and more grain. Protein levels in wheat also tend to be 1½ to 2 points higher with crops seeded with MRBs®. » Plants roots develop right to the centre of the fertilizer row. The plant will access not only the nitrogen, but also all of the available nutrients and moisture in a greater area. Versatile The MRBs® perform well in all moisture and soil conditions. In hard pan or moist ground, the MRB® coulter can cut open the soil and place product at a consistent depth. Field residue can be easily managed, as the coulters cut through the straw. The tripping action allows the coulters to ride over the rocks, yet penetrate even the hardest soils. By comparison, double shoot openers tend to work well only in specific soil conditions. 21 MRB® Bourgault is committed to being a leading shortline equipment supplier to progressive Australian farmers. Continuous improvements to existing product lines, and yearly introductions of new, leading edge products ensure that Bourgault will contribute in a positive way to Australian agriculture.
