spirit of mercy award finalists announced
The Spirit of Mercy Award – unveiled
this past February – is designed to
recognize individuals committed to
the Mission and Values of the Sisters
of Mercy. The response to the call for
nominations was exceptional, with 30
nominees submitted for consideration.
The resulting award candidates
represent each of the Mercy – Des
Moines facilities and cover a wide
variety of roles and disciplines.
While the selection process was
challenging due to the quality of
candidates, a panel of individuals from
both the Staff Advisory Council and
Mission Advisory Council diligently
reviewed each application and are
pleased to announce the finalists, each
representing one of our organizational
Core Values.
These four colleagues will be honored at
the 2015 Annual Service Award Dinner
on April 16. While all are worthy of our
respect and admiration, one of the four
will be announced as the overall 2015
Spirit of Mercy Award winner and will
pack his or her bags for a memorable trip
to the original home of the Sisters
of Mercy in Ireland.
“We are privileged to serve the members
of our community, but we are equally
privileged to serve alongside many
remarkable colleagues,” said Bob Ritz,
Mercy president. “We would like to
thank all of the nominators who suggested
individuals for recognition. We would also
like to thank members of the Staff Advisory
Committee and the Mission Advisory
Committee. These individuals worked
diligently in making their selections –
and their job wasn’t easy.”
Funds to support this award were
provided through charitable gifts
donated by community members in
the name of our former Board Chair
Steve Chapman.

Donate Life month Launched with
meaningful flag raising events
WHAT’S up?
April is designated as National Donate Life Month, featuring an entire month
of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register
as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives
through the gift of organ and tissue donation.

A number of special activities were planned for Donate Life Month at Mercy,
starting with special flag raising events at Mercy central campus and Mercy West
Lakes. In addition, an ecumenical service of remembrance was held on April
6, celebrating life through donation and transplant. Additional activities are
planned for the remainder of the month, including:

ANNUAL MERCY SERVICE AWARDS – A LIVE UP
CELEBRATION – SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 16
Each year in April, Mercy recognizes its staff members for their years of dedicated service to
the organization. A special dinner celebration is planned for April 16, honoring those who have
been at Mercy for 20 years or more. In addition, the recipient of the Spirit of Mercy Award will
be announced that evening.
On the next few pages are the names of all Mercy staff who are celebrating milestone
anniversaries of 10 years or greater. Congratulations and thank you for your years of service.
