St. Paul himself speaks of 'the folly of the cross of Christ, which is not part of the wisdom of the world'. To be a Christian is to become a bit foolish, in a certain sense, and to renounce that worldly shrewdness in order to do all that Jesus tells us to do. And, if we make an accounting, if we balance things out, it seems to weigh against us. But the path of Jesus is magnanimity, generosity, the giving of oneself without measure. He came into the world to save and he gave himself, he forgave, he spoke ill of no one, he did not judge." — Pope Francis 2016-2017 Registration Faith Formation begins September 19 at 6:30 pm in the church for both Monday and Wednesday classes. We will have a Family Mass for Kindergarten through 8th grade to begin our new year of Faith Formation. Weekly classes are held on Monday evenings (grades 1-8) or Wednesday afternoons (grades K-5). Monday classes begin September 26 at 6:30 pm and Wednesday classes begin September 28 at 4:30 pm. There is a mandatory meeting for eighth grade students and their parents at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 21 in the church. Register NOW.... stop by the parish office during normal business hours, or download a registration form @ www.stpiuslombard.org and mail with payment to the FF Office. New students will need a copy of their baptismal certificate. Questions? call 630-627-1551. We look forward to beginning this new year with you!! St. Pius X Youth Ministry Youth Group Roll Out On Monday, September 12, from 6:30-8 pm, the youth group is partnering with our St. Vincent de Paul Society and our Prayer Shawl Ministry to make mats for the homeless. The mats are made from plastic bags, like ones from grocery stores. So from now on, please save these plastic bags and bring them to the event. Parents, if you know how to crochet, feel free to bring your hooks and join us at the event. In addition to rolling out these mats, we’ll also be rolling out the youth ministry year with kickball and cinnamon rolls. And don’t forget to roll out of bed and show up with your worst bad hair day. Invite friends! Family Mass, RE/YM Introduction, and Ice Cream Social On Monday, September 19, from 6:30-8 pm, kindergarten through high school students and parents are invited and encouraged to attend a Family Mass, RE/Youth Ministry Introduction, and Ice Cream Social at Pius. After the Mass, parents and students will receive RE/Youth Ministry packets and calendars, hear about the RE/Youth Ministry program this year, and get the chance to ask any questions you may have. After the meeting, please stick around for a family ice cream social! Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Join us for RCIA! Each year men and women embark on an exploration of the Catholic faith. Some are deciding if they are called into the Catholic Church; others have been Catholics all their lives and are now interested in discovering what this really means. Together we witness to the fact that our search for God is a lifelong journey, a journey on which we make the most progress when we walk it with others and with intention. Stewardship of Time & Talent Appeal HAVE YOU BEEN THINKING ABOUT FR. RICHARD’S CHALLENGE TO USE YOUR GOD-GIVEN GIFTS AND TALENTS IN SERVICE TO GOD AND OTHERS? HAVE YOU BEEN WONDERING ABOUT HOW TO BECOME MORE INVOLVED IN OUR PARISH COMMUNITY? Over the summer months, we were challenged to think about the gifts and talents that God has given us. We were reminded that we are to be good stewards of these gifts and talents. We were also asked to reflect on how we are using our gifts and talents to serve God and others. Our annual Stewardship of Time & Talent Appeal will give parishioners the opportunity to respond to the challenge. We ask that you spend some time in prayer over the next few weeks, reflecting on the gifts and talents God has given you, and considering how you might use them in ministry in the St. Pius X Catholic Community in the coming year. The Parish Guide to Ministry will give you an idea of which ministries and special events might match your special gifts and talents. The Guide to Ministry is available on the parish website or hardcopies will be available in the Gathering Space. Stewardship of Time & Talent Surveys will be inserted in the parish bulletin the weekend of September 24 and 25. You may also complete the survey online by visiting our parish website at www.stpiuslombard.org. Completed surveys should be presented during the Offertory at Mass on Commitment Weekend, October 1 and 2, or they may be returned to the Parish Office. FILLED OUT A SURVEY LAST YEAR? All you have to do to recommit to ministries you have served in within the past year is simply provide current contact information, check one box on the Stewardship of Time & Talent Survey and list those ministries in the space provided. You may still indicate if you are interested in other ministries or if you would like to assist with one of the special events listed on the back of the form. If you have any questions regarding the Stewardship of Time & Talent Appeal, you may contact Leanne Newman at [email protected] or 630-638-8509. You may also contact the Parish Office via e-mail at [email protected] or by calling 630-627-4526. www.stpiuslombard.org PAGE 6 Thank you Sr. Pauline Schutz, OSF for 38 years of dedicated ministry to the St. Pius X Catholic Community. "Ahora te amo a ti sólo, a ti sólo sigo encuentro.
