January 31, 2016 WHAT`S IN YOUR HEART?
January 31, 2016 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time 1883-2016 Prayer to Saint Blaise O glorious St. Blaise, who by your martyrdom left to the Church a precious witness to the Faith, obtain for us the grace to preserve within ourselves this divine gift, and to defend — without concern for human respect — both by word and example, the truth of that same Faith, which is so wickedly attacked and slandered in these our times. You miraculously restored a little child who was at the point of death because of an affliction of the throat. Grant us your mighty protection in similar misfortunes. And, above all, obtain for us the grace of Christian mortification, together with faithful observance of the precepts of the Church, which keep us from offending almighty God. Amen. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Pastor: Reverend G. LIKE SOME of the other great prophets of Hebrew scripture — Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Amos — Jeremiah had to first establish his “cred” — that his prophetic call was indeed from God — for the people to listen to him. The job description, however, wasn’t promising: Everyone is going to fight you, and indeed at several points later Jeremiah will tell God it’s all too much for him. The promise of God, though, is to be with the prophet through all his trials. When you face a difficult but necessary task, remember that God has your back, too. WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE, & WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH. ST. JOSEPH’S PAGE TWO FROM THE PASTOR My Dear Friends in Christ, First this week, I would like to extend a hearty thank you to all the men from our parish, schools, and cemetery staff for their many hours of hard work in clearing the blizzard’s snowy deposit from our properties. Great job, guys and Well done! Bishop O’Connell helped to take the second guessing out of last weekend by issuing a dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass because of the blizzard. Remember! It was only for that one weekend!!! All of our scheduled masses, except the Saturday 5pm, were offered for the scheduled intentions and for those who were able to dig themselves out and find their way to church. Hopefully, any further snow this winter will not keep any of us away on the weekend. Now, I am going to ask you a BIG favor – this week or next, would you please include your regular weekly offering from the blizzard weekend? Without it, our budget takes a real BIG hit: a negative $20,000+ in the collection and the payroll including MANY hours in “snow removal” overtime. No matter how we look at it, the numbers are not on our side. Please….? Thank you for your goodness and your generous stewardship. This week’s second reading gives us those words we have heard over and over again: “Love is patient, love is kind…..It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” (1Cor 13:4,7). May the love of Christ be all that we are and ever could hope to be. God bless you all. Fr. Scott P.S. ST. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
