The Risk West Annual Risk Management Conference will be held on Thursday 13 October 2016 with the
theme of “Risk Management Advances in the South West”.
This is a ground-breaking event – rarely is there a Risk Management Conference of national standard held
in the South West, where we will address the leading issues in the management of organisational risk.
The Roundtable discussions focus on risk issues such as health and safety management, business
continuity and emergency planning, cyber risks and effective auditing. Sector focus on Housing
Associations, Leisure and Tourism, International Business and Transportation will make the Conference a
practical and hands-on learning experience.

Need Accommodation?
If you wish to arrive the night before, special arrangements have been made with the Duke of Cornwall
Hotel, Plymouth’s First Luxury Hotel, with a rate of £75 single, including breakfast and VAT. Approx. 1015 minutes drive from Plumer House.
Alternatively, choose the Future Inn, Plymouth. Just 5 minutes from the Conference location, the hotel
has spacious air-conditioned bedrooms and the rate is £79.50 single, including breakfast and VAT.

Risk West in the Community
We are supporting the Port Isaac RNLI 150th Anniversary this year and for every booking a donation of
£10 will be made.
We endeavour to be a low-impact event with the minimum of natural resources employed in the
Conference. We encourage delegates to travel by train to Plymouth and we will be providing Conference
taxi services to and from Plumer House.

Speaker Profiles
BBC Cornwall Assistant Editor, Daphne Skinnard
Daphne has been with the BBC for more than 20 years, and during that time she has
travelled the length and breadth of the region speaking to fascinating people, recording
interviews, presenting programmes and broadcasting news. Daphne is currently assistant
editor at BBC Radio Cornwall.
In addition to her successful career at the BBC, Daphne is a Governor of Truro and
Penwith College, a trustee of the Cornwall Community Foundation and Kneehigh theatre
company, and sits on a fundraising committee for Macmillan Cancer Support. Since 2012
Daphne has served as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Lord Lieutenant Edward Bolitho OBE,
the Queen's personal representative in Cornwall.
Steve Fowler
Steve Fowler is a Cornishman by birth and has a Masters degree in Chemistry from the
University of Oxford. Steve was the Chief Executive of the Institute of Risk Management
for over 10 years before becoming a risk management and governance consultant.
Steve is currently a Trustee and Non-Executive Director of the Institute of Occupational
Safety and Health and Co-Chairman of the Risk Management Standards Committee of the
British Standards Institute. Steve is a Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management, a Fellow
of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Linda Middleton-Jones
Linda Middleton-Jones has over 25 years’ experience in international commerce across
manufacturing, nuclear and aviation sectors from her base in South West England. She
is an accomplished professional with extensive overseas know-how. A graduate of the
University of Plymouth and Universidad de Barcelona (LLB,Hons) and a Member of the
Institute of Export (MIEx(Grad).
Linda represents the economic interests of South West companies, providing
international business support, export awareness and regulatory advice. She has
organized successful missions and welcomed delegations to the South West by
facilitating introductions and networking opportunities.
Mark Butterworth
Mark Butterworth has enjoyed a long career in risk management, including 16 years at
Prudential plc and more recently working in the Lloyd’s of London insurance market. Mark
founded his own consultancy 5 years ago and undertakes risk consulting, interim boardlevel risk management and governance assignments and training and mentoring in risk
management for a number of business sectors. Mark is a Fellow of the Institute of Risk
Management, a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and has an MBA in Management.
Mark is the Risk West Conference Director.
